Imperial Dam, Life of Leisure, I think this is the Real Retirement!

Friday and Saturday, Jan. 6th and 7th zipped by even though there was nothing major on the agenda. We have totally lost track of the days and are continually saying “what day is this?” “when did we do that?” Too funny, but indeed the true indication that we are retired. And the funniest thing about that is that it really doesn’t matter too much WHAT day it is!

Friday sunrise
We got up Friday at our normal time and it was windy, very windy. Even though the sun was out, the heat from it wasn’t making us feel warm so it was mostly an inside day. Bill and I puttered around reading blogs and having our morning 'latte' (ha ha) and then drove over to Snowbird Mesa, the other side of Ferguson Road to say goodbye to Gayle and John. They were heading out soon to go to Quartzsite.

Lots of flat open land to park here

Senator Wash Reservoir

Squaw Lake

Nice sites on the lake

I know better than to grumble about the odd cooler days and I’m sure you, we, all of us are tired of hearing “but it is better than what they are getting back home!”, but it is true. We are blessed to be here.

Nope, not missing this one bit

At one point, I decided to throw on a sweatshirt and go down Ferguson Road to the Christian Service Centre. I knew it was only open Mon. to Fri. from 9 am to noon but just wanted to walk it and get my mile in. The wind on my back made me almost go back for another jacket but it got better and then I had to fight the wind walking back into it. I've seen a fair number of quail up here on Quail Hill but no burros so far.
If you look real close, there are about 30 quail here discussing
my presence

The rest of the day was quiet with reading until we joined Rob and Pat for Happy Hour at 3.
Clemson and Pat

Best buddies now

We know this is early for some rv’ers but here in the southwest, the nights start to cool off around 4:30, almost on the dot, so we get them in early.

Saturday, another slow day. No definite plans around the Suite other than plans to putter around. Bill and I got up, had a coffee/tea together, read blog posts from our friends and then decided to take a hike down the road again.
Only one of the two saguaros in our area

Early sun shining on the rocks makes them
appear wet
We actually veered off onto the dirt trail, out to the C.S.C. again and back home. It was only 47F but we moved along pretty good so we were well warmed by the time we got back.

The clouds had taken over for the early part of the day but Bill set to work putting up his flag poles and flags, see his post here, and soon the sun was embracing us for most of the afternoon.
The wind from the north was still on the cool side but up next to the Suite, I was baking in the sun and almost done! I’m into a good book by David Baldacci, so I was quite content to just sitting and turning pages.

watch over us up on Quail Hill

We chit chatted with Rob and Pat for a couple of hours with an even earlier start to our Happy Hour (because we can!) and chuckled over Clemson performing yet again. At least, Clemson will now jump up on Pat’s lap occasionally.

Doggy kisses for looking after me, Pat

Clemson enjoys Happy Hour too
Before too long, the cool temps separated us and we started preparing dinner. Chicken breasts on the Weber with a garden salad was on our menu and I was hungry for it.

By 6 pm, the sun had set and we were done eating and doing dishes. Already the temperature has dropped to 58F with an expected overnight low of 50F here at Imperial Dam.
Tonight's sunset

Warmer still tomorrow so I will leave it at that and say goodnight.

I hope you’ve had a couple of great days as well. Thank you for reading!

    1. We are glad to be here where we are, it is at least 10 degrees warmer here than where Gayle moved to at Quartzsite. We will stay as long as we can which is until the 16th. High of 73F today. Enjoy your Sunday off.

  4. You guys are having the right attitude because being retired and free with no commitments means enjoying life doing what you feel like doing. I looked at Bill's flagpoles and flags. Great idea. During our many years of traveling on a boat we were required to fly our home country's flag in addition to the courtesy flag of the visiting country. Our home flag and flags of clubs to which we belonged to brought strangers to our door saying hi. Many times this gesture resulted in long and dear friendships. If we were parked in the LTVA and saw your flags, we would come over to say hi!

    1. Thank you for the great comment. Bill was not content until he had just the right flag pole to fly both flags. A happy husband.......you know. :) We agree with you and would love it if you were close and stopped in to say hi.
