Bill Back to London, A Girlfriend Visits and Keeps Me Company!

Too bad we woke up to a wet, cloudy Thursday, July 13th. At least it is warm and I opened all the windows. It is unfortunate that when I have a friend coming for the first time, we will be inside for her visit. I don’t know how much for outdoor stuff Debbie is anyway, and we’ll keep ourselves entertained no matter what.

Bill leaves right on time
Bill was up at 5:30 and out the door at 6:30, right on his planned schedule. I got up to say goodbye and then decided to stay up. I wanted to strip our bed and put clean sheets on and also, I wanted to make up the pull-out sofa. Some people don’t like to share a bed unless it is their spouse so the choice is hers. I’m not one of those people……………...let me rephrase. I’ll share a bed with another lady friend.

UPS delivered my Avon this morning
With those made, there wasn’t much more to do. I would have cut the grass up here on the flat in front of the Suite had the weather been conducive but since we won’t be out there much anyway, I’m not worried that it is too wet to do it. I was trying to decide what to have for supper. Not because I thought Debbie would be fussy but because I wanted a nice meal without too much fuss.
McGowan Dam

looks wet, doesn't it?
Durham does not have roasted chickens like Costco or Independent and that was one of my first choices. I didn’t want to barbecue mainly because of the weather. As I was looking in the freezer I noticed a pound pack of ground beef and the decision of spaghetti was made. That settled, I hopped in the shower.

The calming after the dam

Around 12:30 I drove into town to the grocery store, knowing that Debbie wouldn’t be too much longer and we could just drive home with her following me. Sure enough as I backed into the parking space at Foodland, I received a text indicating that she was in Harriston. This gave me exactly what I needed as far as time knowledge and hung around Durham for another 30 minutes.

I visited the McGowan Dam, a place that intrigues me and snapped some photos of the rushing water. I also spotted some children across the way in the swimming area with a large inflated pink swan. They were not worried about the chance of rain, just as children should think, instead just out to have some safe fun under the watchful eyes of their parents.

Debbie arrived in town around 1:15 and we connected on Hwy 4 just south of the traffic light. She followed me to The Ridge and the rain had stopped long enough for us to get inside. This is where we remained for the rest of the evening. We had a great time catching up on things since we’d last seen each other, last summer. Then we chatted about anything and everything else we could think of. Hard to believe we’ve fairly recently become good friends, seems like ages!

After a nice spaghetti dinner with salad and Italian bread, we cleaned up the dishes before I settled down with my blogging. I handed Debbie the tv remotes and popped the television up from its hideaway. The rain certainly did what many hoped for, it cooled it down out there. We dropped like a lead balloon from 19C to a chilly 15C and there was no sunset this evening.
First harvest of Swiss chard from my garden
Debbie found Property Brothers on the W channel, something our men don’t get into watching but it was a good choice for us. I heard from Bill around 9 o’clock saying he had just finished work. Two ladies arrived late at CanAm for a hitch demonstration and test drive. Long day for him, 9 to 9 and he sounded tired but happy.

Clemson didn't take long to snuggle with our company

Spaghetti, salad with swiss chard and bread
the only thing I forgot to get out was the wine.
Well, that was our day and it was a great one. I hope yours was too.
The walkway across the dam to the swimming area
this thing freaks me out
Thanks for reading along today, I’d love to hear from you if you have the time.

  2. What a nice post. Great to have friends visit. Then you show The Bridge. That you can see through. I would've been paralyzed. Did you walk over?

    1. Thank you, it was so nice of her to come. Ha ha, NO! I didn't walk over it. It freaked me just to stand on the edge to take the picture. If Bill were with me, I could do it but hanging on to him. Crazy!
