Sunday Walk and Some Baking

On Sunday, Feb. 28^th, I woke up and looked at the clock at exactly the same time as I did yesterday. 7:03 am. I rolled over and the next time I looked, it was 7:32, exactly the same time as yesterday again. Isn’t that weird? It has to mean something. Anyway, I got up, washed a bit and dressed for my walk. I wasn’t sure how slippery it would be so I wore my grippers plus took my ski poles. I didn't need my mad bomber hat though, it was a nitch below 0C/32F.

Perfect choice. There were some spots on the pavement that had iced over, but just looked wet, so the poles came in handy. I walked the snowy trail as it felt safer this morning and it was a nice hike. It was a tad foggy off in the distance and there was frost on all our windshields when I left. I enjoyed almost 2 miles before heading back towards home. I didn't meet a soul while walking.

The water at the dam was really flowing this morning in the -1C/30F temperatures. 😊 Nice to hear the rush of the water again. Also, it is so nice to hear some little birds chattering to each other. On the way past the RBC bank, I remembered to stop in and withdraw our rent money for March. We’re hoping this will be the last full month’s rent we’ll be paying but that all depends on the weather and the snow melt at the Ridge.

Back home, I made my tea before coming upstairs. It was a lovely walk. After sitting upstairs at our laptops for a while, Bill said “there’s the sun trying to come out”, so maybe we’ll see more brightness as the day goes on. By now, a mere 35 minutes later, the frost was gone from the vehicles, a testament to the mildness.

The forecast for today is a high of +7C/46F so we can almost hear the melting happening outside our window. 😊 At 10:30, I went down and finished mixing up the batter for the banana bread. Once it was in the pan, I noticed Susan was starting the oven for their supper meal so I carried on and mixed up the batter for some peanut butter cookies. When she is finished, I’ll pop them both in the oven.

At 11:30, I fried bacon and eggs for lunch and we were eating soon after. Sometimes the eggs and bacon cooks perfectly, reflections on the chef, (of course!) and today was one of those days. We did the dishes and I blended up a vanilla pudding mix for a couple of desserts this week. That will be it for my time in the kitchen today, other than supper tonight. I pulled a pack of 2 pork chops out of the freezer for that meal.

Upstairs, we called RBC to hopefully connect with a representative. Now that we have our US Visa cards in our hands, we know that our Cdn cards come due in April. Rather than have them go by the wayside, we want to set it up to have them go to our bank directly and avoid the Royal mail step altogether. That was so easy once we were directed properly.

After 35 minutes waiting on hold on the phone, our patience had run out and Bill hung up. I went downstairs to the puzzle. It was intriguing enough to keep me at it for a few hours today. Bill came down to change the back wiper on Ptooties and we took that time to go out and switch the vehicles. I pulled out onto the street. Bill got B.B. out to the end of the lane and then backed in to our regular parking spaces. All ready for morning.

Susan was still baking so it wasn’t until 2:30 that I came in to turn the already warm oven on to 350F for my bread and cookies. Susan informed me that she needed the oven again at 4:30 but my bread will be done before or by 4 anyway. I was going to bake our chops in there but have changed my mind. I’ll do them in Madame IP, she is feeling neglected lately. 😊 I can also do potatoes in there and vegetables in the microwave. We have a few of the fingerling spuds to eat up.

A blogger friend mentioned ‘5 weeks and we’ll be back in our trailer’ and that is approximately what we are looking at. A few things dependent, of course. Melting snow is the big thing for us. Wes informed us that BizyBee has a new auction started up so Bill had a peek while I was downstairs. Not much that he’s interested in, their stuff isn’t as nice as Rockford's so he’s a bit more tightfisted with his cash.

With the bread and cookies baked, Bill said things smelled good up in our room. I relaxed with my book on the bed until close to 6. My chop was really good but Bill didn’t seem to enjoy his as much. That’s a table turn for ya! Usually it is the other way around with pork chops. I baked some crescent rolls in the oven and we had vanilla pudding and tasted the banana nut bread. Yum, both were yummy and a nice change.

Marilynne called to see how things were going and while doing dishes, we chatted with her. Nice to hear from her and that she is doing fine. She is in the Niagara region so still in the Gray zone, lockdown. Upstairs, I downloaded my pictures and finished my post before logging into the auction site. I spent enough on the last one that I’m going to really restrict my bids on these. 😊

This was a nice day and I’m happy to have got a good walk in this morning. It was the perfect time with the rest of the day filled with activity of some kind. I hope you enjoyed your Sunday. Sounds like the rain this evening, that started around 7:15, is turning to snow by 4 am. Then it doesn’t look like it will be stopping until late tomorrow afternoon. G-r-e-a-t. ☹ I hope the conditions are good for driving in the morning.

Saturday with my Sweets, Happy Birthday, Nate! No Walk = No Pictures

My ‘Sweets’ and I were up by 7:30 on Saturday, Feb. 27^th. The house was quiet, with no one else up yet. We went down to make our coffee and tea before I sorted the clothes. Susan usually does her laundry first and that frees up the machines for us to get ours done so I was in no rush to sort. We sat at our laptops with our brew and I started and finished Friday’s blog post. That was a busy day so I had nothing written at all! 😉

With that done, I took the time to go on the ‘new’ Rockford auction site. There are 30 pages and I didn’t have time to peruse those yesterday either. We find it interesting and the Rockford one has better quality stuff, including tools etc. that Bill is more interested in. I found a couple of things to bid on right away but mostly, I’ll just keep ‘watching’ until closer to the closing on Wednesday.

I went downstairs around 11:30 and Susan was done in the laundry room so I put our sheets and towels in. Bill had eaten toast and peanut butter earlier so wasn’t hungry when I was. I had some yogourt and warmed up the leftover soup for my lunch with crackers. That hit the spot. At some point, in between loads of laundry, I worked on the puzzle. At one point, I went out to the car and brought in my auction picks and sorted through them.

I’d picked up 3 models of cars for Bill for a meagre 3$ and we discovered that 2 were partially put together, roughly, making the decision to only keep the third one. There were brushes, various good paints and some glue that easily made it a good purchase. I was pleased with everything I bought, some toys for the grands when they visit the Ridge but nevertheless, I had fun checking it all out.

I tucked things into a couple of boxes and went down to make some No-Bake bars for a snack. I had 3 black bananas crying to become bread so I mashed them with dates today. I'll mix it all up tomorrow. We’ve planned fish and chips for supper, since Bill had a burger last night and went down around 6 to start them.

Bill would have at least one movie tonight to watch so I got one of my new dvd’s out to test the external cd drive. It worked just fine before supper so fingers crossed that I can watch A Walk in the Clouds later.

Since I finished my book last night, I needed to find a new one to start on so I got out The Lake of Dreams by Kim Edwards. She is the author of The Memory Keepers Daughter and I enjoyed that one. Gayle gave me this one. The weather today was kind of funny. First thing this morning, it was snowing, heavy at times, but it was a wet snow and soon dissipated and we noticed it melting as soon as it hit the ground. No accumulation to speak of. Good!

It was mild at 3C/38F though we didn’t get as much sunshine as I thought we were supposed to. Maybe tomorrow we’ll see it. I should have walked but I didn’t. Simple as that. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get out. That’s a couple of maybes in a row, ‘maybe’ one will pan out! 😊 Supper was quite good. I am trying to behave with my food choices (gotta get back on track sometime!) so I had about 6 fries and spaghetti squash with my fish. Who knows? Maybe fish and squash will be a new trend! Nah.

After dishes, we came upstairs and I worked on publishing this post. Hopefully, our movies are good ones. I hope you’ve had a great Saturday. Before I sign off, there is a special young lad who needs to be wished a Happy Birthday. My 3^rd biological grandson, Nathan, turned 11 today. We called him this morning to pass the message along and he thanked us for the card and the $ we sent. I’m glad I mailed to arrive on time.

A Busy Day Ending with a Nice Dinner Out

A short catch up of my day on Friday, Feb. 27^th because I’m late. Bill had the day off, as I mentioned before, but he had Black Beauty parked in front of  Ptooties so needed to get up and dressed too. He had planned some shopping in Hanover so we both left Paisley at the same time. I followed him.

The roads were clear and dry and the sky was looking to be clear and dry as well. 😉 I carried on when he made the turn into Walmart around 8:30. There were some washers being used when I arrived at the Mat. I needed fuel but when I called Bill using Bluetooth, he said we could get it tonight. I was trying to save time today. I finished at the Mat with a quick wash after everyone had left and met another customer at the door.

When I headed out to Mitch’s it was a few minutes before 10. He had the shop all heated up and I set to work. Sanding, taping and papering the other side and back window for primer. After sanding, I remove the tape and retape. Also, after primer, I remove the tape and replace with new for papering before painting. It is all time consuming and before I knew it, it was after 12! I wasn’t hungry so didn’t eat anything.

At 12:45 we hopped in his old beater truck and drove to the Markdale, Grey Road 12 to pick up a load of wood for Mitch’s wood stoves. Mick usually delivers (for a fee) but has been overwhelmed with business that he couldn’t for a while. This was a neat outing. I’d never seen a wood cutter, splitter like this and to see it in action was quite cool. With a full pick up load for $50, I thought ‘what a great deal!’

I had some cheese, pepperoni and coffee then worked away back at the shop; Mitch would unload on his own time. At 3:15 we papered the windshield, he paid me and I drove for home. I made one stop at the BizyBee Auction house to pick up my winnings from Wednesday and booted for home. I showered and we dressed for dinner. Not at The Paisley Common tonight, but we were meeting my two sisters and their hubbies at Chuck’s Roadhouse back in Hanover. We made it just before 5:30.

It was a good meal, I had quesadilla and a smooth Cool Blue drink. 😊 Vodka, Curaco and Sprite. Yummy. Bill had a Bacon cheeseburger and it was good but for the extra cost, we agreed that we both got more food across the street. Plus, we waited 45 minutes for our food, which can happen in a busy restaurant. That is a nice vote for the Common. We all went back to Donna and Gerry’s for another hour or so and headed home by 9.

I was tired and knew this wouldn’t get touched when we got home. I crawled into bed and finished the last two chapters of The Night Fire. Bill will like it too. Even though, I didn't stop from 6:30 am to 10 pm, it was a great day and Bill enjoyed his as well.

Getting Rested Up for Friday, Gorgeous Day! For My Curious Lady Friends

On Thursday, Feb. 25^th I got up right after Bill left. I was wide awake and there was no reason to stay in bed. At 7 o’clock, I was dressed and heading out the door for my walk. I knew the sun would be coming up at some point while I was out there and I wanted to experience some part of a sunrise, even though I wasn’t sure how far or in which direction I’d be walking.

With the cold, then mild, snow, thawing and freezing again, there was a lot of ice out and about. My phone app told me it was -5C/22F, which isn’t too bad, and the wind was low. I donned my scarf, mad bomber hat, heavy mitt/gloves, had my grippers on my boots and grabbed my walking ski poles. I was prepared. I’m glad I had taken the time as that air was chilly.

The coldest part on my whole self was about 12” between the bottom of my coat to the top of my tall boots. I didn’t think long enough to wear my long johns. ☹ It was a wonderful walk, along the river. It has been a while since I’ve been out there and I missed many things about it. The Saugeen was so pretty with the tinge of pink sun reflecting in it and the white clouds had a beautiful blush. (I'm sure my cheeks will be a similar colour when I return home).

I walked the trail which, because of the plow pushing the town’s snow in there, is shorter each time. I took the new path made by other walkers, because I can be a bit of a follower 😊 and it brought me out to the gate on the other side of the snow pile. We’ve had a lot of snow! I signed my name in the crusty snow with my ski pole and that gave my upper arms a workout! Fresh snow is easier, obviously.

By the time, I walked around the park and the furthest street, east of town, I’d seen the sun come up over the tree tops. I didn’t extend my walk any more than 30 minutes as my legs were feeling the cold and I was ready for a nice hot cup of tea. A mile and a half was the maximum this morning. When Wes asked me what I was up to today, my answer was along the line of ‘nothing, a day of rest’.

It seems every day (other than Sunday) since last Wednesday, I’ve been going strong. I knew that it was a 'relax' day and I would be ready for another long day of work tomorrow. The auction items I’d won last night were not ready for pick up until Friday or Sunday which was fine by me. I would go tomorrow on the way home from work.

Wes and Susan were in and out for the most part of the day and I quietly worked away on the big puzzle. I hadn’t gotten very far at all on the day I opened the box. I made good progress today and I’m enjoying it a lot. Bill texted while I was down there and I was happy to see that it wasn’t 3 pm yet when I unlocked the door. He got off early but along with that, he was informed that they won’t be working tomorrow. A bit of a delay on things in the house.

I made us each a cup of tea and we came upstairs to enjoy it. For supper, we had baked chicken thighs. I cut up a medium potato and I baked it with the thighs. Pillsbury tea biscuits went in the oven too and we have a couple leftover for another night. Everything tasted so good! After dishes, normal stuff. Upstairs for blog writing and Jeopardy.

Supper was delicious!

This was a really nice slow day for me. Bill will get his slow day tomorrow, to do whatever his little (big) 💖  desires. 😊 I hope you’ve enjoyed your day. It was a tad cooler today than yesterday but as long as we keep hanging around or above the freezing mark, we’re happy campers. The sun was gorgeous ALL day long.
