Some Errands, The Rain Returns

The Ridge

On Tuesday, May 12th Bill had the day off. He had an appointment in Markdale for a follow up ECG on his heart murmur. It was for 8:45 am so I opted out of an early 6 am cleaning at the Mat and went with him. It is such a nice hospital and I waited outside of the Imaging Room while he was taken care of.

Good morning!
This is a bad picture but
we were thrilled to see our geese
had babies.

We left there just after 9:35 and drove the 40 km to Owen Sound for our appointment at Service Canada. We had our paperwork all filled out and our pictures in hand to renew our passports. Today, it took 20 minutes for the young lady to finish processing and send it off.

It was so surprising that I
wasn't prepared with a camera.

When we left there we walked through the mall to the Bell store. We've been talking about upgrading our phones for a year so this was as good a time as any to check it out. Especially since the two staff had no customers inside.

Waiting for Bill

We left the store with new phones about an hour later. You all know the joy of that, I'm sure but we were quite pleased with the cost and the fact that our monthly service payments are less than what we started with.

I was quite impressed with this
hospital.

We are not great at all the transfer stuff so glad she did it for us, however, I had to download an app that was lost and Bill has to set up the Wyze security cameras again on my phone. Not sure what is going on with that but he'll figure it out.

Waiting at the Bell store for our
phone transfers

Back home, I went in and cleaned the Mat. It was busy with 4 customers, in and out, so I finished and got out within the hour. Today was a cool day but a couple of degrees warmer than yesteray - well 3 degrees. We had frost on the vehicles and the grass this morning.

By late afternoon, we reached 13.3C/56F and Bill drove over to turn the pump on at the Acreage. It was to be the last night below freezing so we could get water now from their well again. He got a bladder of water and by the time he returned, the rain had begun.

Lunch was yummy.
Deep fried onion rings for me!

It didn't last, which is good. for supper, after lunch at A & W we opted for grilled cheese sandwiches. It fit the bill. We watched a couple more episodes of Bosch before switching to NCIS. NCIS Origins is done for this season. 😮‍💨

Supper

Bill is back to work tomorrow, closer to home so he can take Black Beauty. Yay! This was a good day, with more things taken care of. The rain returned and is expected to last until 10 pm.

The view from the hospital.
It wasn't busy this morning.
Good night.

Thank you for popping in.

They've Arrived! A Lazy Day for Gibbs and I, Birthdays

The Ridge

On Monday, May 11, it felt good to stay in bed. Although, it only lasts until 7:30 at the latest and then I'm moving. Bill leaves at 6:30 so after bidding him adieu, Gibbs curled up beside me at the window and we dropped off again.

Good morning!
This little visitor made my morning.

He is still such a cuddlebum in the morning, what would I ever do without those morning kisses and snuggles? 🐶 The sun was shining brightly in our east facing window and the sky was mostly clear blue. Deceiving though, it was only 1.67C/35F and not to get much better all day.

Visiting me through
the window.

I hopped in the shower as soon as I got up so I didn't get lazy. With no where to go today, I tend to do that. Woops! I made my tea and set it on my craft table...and promptly forgot about it! LOL I was distracted by our first Baltimore Oriole visit!

He was right there, first on my clothesline and then on our ladder! He made a couple of trips around the Suite, landing once on Black Beauty, before coming to the oranges in the feeder. He seemed to be happy to nibble there for a while before flying off.

He came back for the grape jelly.

Once he disappeared, I went out and added some grape jelly for him. I was so excited! I'd heard about them visiting St. Thomas and Clinton, even Montreal so it was bound to be our turn. This is not my picture, but what came up on my emoji search.

They are so stunning.

Needless to say, I sat in my chair with Gibbs and when 9 o'clock rolled around, I remembered my tea. LOL I reheated it and enjoyed it all the same. Bill and I have 2 daughter's birthdays today. His youngest, Jess, and my oldest, Bridgette, celebrate the same day. What a coincidence!

Chicken on a bun

So, with those wishes relayed, I started reading one of my very few 'health' books. I wanted to refresh my memory on Barry Grove's theory on diabetes and cholesterol. He makes so much sense to me and has the research to back it all up. I enjoy flipping through the pages.

It has a lot of nice short stories.

On my 50th birthday, my sister Donna gave me a small book with little stories and I came across it yesterday in my 'special' book cupboard (along with Barry's). I smiled about the gift and read through some of the heart-warming, feel-good tales.

We walked to the mailbox
Gibbs waits for me to head back.
For lunch, I reheated the last pieces of chicken and sauce and had it on a warmed bun. That was very good. It will be pork tenderloin for supper with a side. I finished my 5th card, those are the ones I prepped a few days ago. Not sure what is next. Maybe more earrings.

First, Gibbs and I walked down to the mailbox and brought up the Canadian Tire flyer. He actually walked right to the road with me this time. It felt really cold when I first went out but on the way back, not as bad. Still, 6C/42.8F is not warm! Thankfully, we didn't have the strong winds.

Finally! My 3 little daffodils
have bloomed in the midst
of the periwinkle.

I made my tea and got the tools out for making earrings. Bill messaged that he would be home before 5:30 so I finished 2 pair of earrings and then sat with Gibbs to watch a new series that one of my fellow bloggers recommended.

My new earring display
holder.
Two new pair of earrings added.

Scarpetta, 1st episode in and I'm interested enough to go on. The author, Patricia Cornwell, is familiar to me as well. for supper, I had mini sausages and pancakes on the menu. Bill was quite happy about that. They were good. We cleaned up and I put on Bosch. Time for a re-boot. 😉

A nice change for supper.

It was a good day, nice and sunny and I guess if it had been warmer, I would have been outside doing something. Bill is done with the Guelph job, Billy can finish it tomorrow while Bill and I take care of a few personal things.

Happy Birthday, Bridgette.

Happy Birthday, Jess.
Good night!

Thank you for your visit today. Comments are welcome.

Happy Mother's Day, A Few Chores

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 10th it was a clear blue sky that I woke up to at 6:30. How nice for this special day! Well, my joy was short lived as soon as I saw the temperature. Yes, weather talk again. It was 0C/32F out there.

Good morning!
This was last night's sunset.
Who says clouds can't be pretty?
No one!

Bill didn't have to be anywhere but I did. We sorted dirty laundry and he carried the basket to Ptooties for me. There were two customers in the Mat and I loaded our two loads just like they did. I finished cleaning and dried the small items before I left for home.

Heading to town on
Baptist Church Rd.

I hung the rest on the line; although cold, the sun and wind would dry them. And it did. Bill was planning on working on his cargo trailer (outside) but the air was just too darn cold. He needed a day off for fun.

Turbine lane is on the way.
Makes for a nice picture.

I did some paper quilling, he hung in the Hangar and for lunch I made us buns with melted cheese and bacon. They were good, a challenge with no oven but I made it work. The day did not warm up and when I brought the clothes in off the line, in just a sweater - it was just dumb. Brrrr!

More quilling, and Bill accepted a parcel delivery from Amazon. It is another earring holder, very small but big enough for displaying at a craft show. I am still waiting to make a decision on those, just taking things day by day. Right now, I'm keeping busy and enjoying the craft.

Today I remembered to update
our anniversary plaque.

My sister mentioned watching the movie Song Sung Blue so I found it on Stack TV and watched it. Yes, it is a really good movie and I loved the music. If you like Neil Diamond, I recommend you watch it too.

Gibbs wanted out before
supper and this is what he did.
What a goof!

For supper, I had Madame IP cook pork tenderloin with onions, potatoes and then gravy. It was all delicious, just like a Sunday night meal should be. I heard from my daughter first thing this morning and we had a nice long catch up chat.

Then he looks at us as if
"what?"
Go piddle - so he does and
then runs back inside.
Joy, everyday, that's what he give me.
💘

Marilynne called  this morning while I was at the Mat to thank us for the card I made. Nice to hear how much she loved it. This afternoon, my son made his call and we did the same thing.

Supper was good
and we have leftovers.

Two of Bill's daughters sent messages and we talked to Jessica yesterday. It has been a good day, very relaxing for Mother's Day. If you are a mom, I hope you also had a great day.

Happy Mother's Day
and
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

A Bit of This and That, Lots Done

 The Ridge

On Saturday, May 9th Bill slept in until 6:35 and that meant Gibbs waited beside me until the moment he could cuddle his daddy and get outside for his nature call. I slept well, don't recall hearing anything from the time I went to bed at 9:15 until we woke.

Good morning!
This is how Bill's day started.
To the dump, to the dump.

I do know I was dreaming though, I felt 'busy' all night. 🤣 It was a gray sky with no possibility of sun. At least it was mild. With the trailer full of branches, Bill left at 8 am to go to the dump at Bentinck. It is a place you can take brush for free during open hours.

Up on the berm, my
Trilliums were starting
to bloom.

When he returned, we loaded the trailer again together and he was off again. I had my breakfast of oatmeal around 10:00 and when Bill came back the second time, I left him to it. I had to drive to  Williamsford to clean the air bnb for the first time this year.

Here is the table I picked up
at the side of the road yesterday.
Solid wood and with some tlc
will be even nice to look at!

I was happy to be back helping Robin, and arrived at the home at 11:30. The house had had overnight guests only and she had more coming in tonight. It hasn't been too busy over the last few months according to the guest book she leaves on the entry table. I went to work and finished by 1:30.

And the wood pile from yesterday

Bill had just returned again from his third trip and that was it for the day. It pretty much cleaned up all of the cut branches, well, perhaps one more load to go. We came in and relaxed for a while. I did some quilling, got a few more cards completed before giving in to a headache.

I wasn't expecting to see any
sun today, in fact had a few rain
drops on my way home.

Bill dozed downstairs with Gibbs and I went upstairs for 45 minutes. When I got up, the headache was gone so I went back to quilling. We put on some classic tv, some Carol Burnett and then Beverly Hillbillies. Funny for a while but after about 8 episodes we'd had enough. 😉

The bnb looks good.
I missed this charming place.

For supper, I cooked fish and onion rings in Rosy and Bill cooked his fries in the Fry Daddy. It was a bit tricky but everything was done at the same time and quite tasty! I love my onion rings! We cleaned up the dishes and Bill went to the Hangar.

I left the place at 1:30

While writing my blog, I watched a movie. I'm always up for new movies, this one is called Jackie & Ryan and seems worth a watch. Today, we accomplished a lot and I got my feet wet again with cleaning for Robin.

The rain came down hard
and thunder and lightning
was heard and seen in the distance.
Still, a calm storm.

Then it stopped and
the sun came out before
supper.

We reached a decent 16.67C/62F by late afternoon and then it began raining. The earlier winds had calmed and we got our first spring storm since arriving home.

At Walmart, I decided to buy
myself battered onion rings for
when Bill has his fries.
They were delicious.

No, we don't need the rain and are grateful that within 90 minutes the sun popped out and the rain stopped.

Gibbs went looking for a toy.
Bill tried to help him find 'the' one.
Turns out, Poppy was up in bed and
that made him happy.
💕

This was a great day. I hope you can say the same.

Good night!

Thank you for stopping in.

I Like Free! Changes Once More

The Ridge

On Friday, May 8th Bill was back into his routine of getting ready for work. For real this time. Billy called last night and is all better. My guy left at 6:30 and Gibbs and I dropped back off until 7. I know I slept very well last night and woke feeling refreshed.

Good morning
from Gibbs and I

I can't help but think that my morning stretches are helping this old body. for all the lugging, bending, lifting etc. I've done over the past week, I'm quite pleased that other than my achy fingers, I'm feeling no pain. I probably just jinxed it!

It was a cool morning but the sky was clear, making way for a warmer day of about 13C/55.4F. They are calling for wind and up here, that usually amounts to more than what town residents get. Fingers crossed they are wrong. I left Gibbs in charge and went in to clean the Mat.

I like to see the grader/roller go
down our road, filling in pot holes.

Another small bonus waited for me, finding .35¢ today. There was a full garbage bag of clothes sitting on the counter marked "FREE". Well, no, we don't do that here. Once one does it, it gets out of hand. There is a second hand store just down the street. Duh.

So, I (of course) went through it with the clothing exchanges in mind. Free is better than purchasing second hand. I had to toss a couple of things that were torn or stained but sorted through them. About half went into a bag for drop off downtown and the rest came home.

Gibbs stuck close to my side, almost
waiting for me to say he could come.

That encouraged me to purge again - since I usually do that after my haul from an exchange. I hung a few things on the line that were worth keeping and put the rest in the Bunky. I did get rid of an armful of my own things. This next part of my story - I'm just glad no one witnessed!

Bill is happy to finish the front field
cutting. It always looks so nice after.

On the way home from town, after filling a water bottle at Mark's, I stopped and lifted a free drop leaf table into the back of Black Beauty. Oh my! It is solid wood and very heavy but it is perfect for puzzles in my shed. What a challenge getting it in there by myself.......but I succeeded and didn't need to flag anyone down to help! 🤭😉 (pix tomorrow)

When I got home and let Gibbs out - the little bum disappeared in the blink of an eye when I turned my back. He didn't come when called and I couldn't find him anywhere. It was minimum of 5 minutes of calling and then panic before I found him skulking  back from the field behind us.

He never does that without returning when we call. All I can think is that he saw something and took chase. That is when he goes completely deaf. His selective hearing is exactly like a humansd but his is scary sometimes. He knew he was in trouble and I pointed to the Suite and sent him into the house.

Look at that sky!

We did make up, I couldn't stand the sad face. 💕😔 Needless to say, it all turned out well and he didn't leave my side for the rest of the day. Robin messaged with an apology - she screwed up and didn't need me today after all. It's tomorrow that she needs the bnb cleaned. No worries! I'd like to be outside anyway!

I added some dirt from pile to the wagon and realized that I put too much in. It was the devil getting it up the  berm hill! Am I trying to kill myself? One load, that's all I did and Gibbs and I lay down on the grass.

Nothing like it. The grass up
here on the berm is nice to stretch out on.
Gibbs, of course, goes for the shady
spot. 😂

Of course, that meant it was cuddle time but it was also very, very relaxing. I don't do that enough, just lay on the grass and look up, do you? Anyway, I enjoyed that after putting the wagon away. We laid there for 20 minutes or so, just listening to the peace and quiet.

At the right moment, a jet
streams across the sky.

Bill messaged at 2:30 with his eta and Gibbs decided to go inside the Suite. I still hadn't moved those logs that I grouped the other day. They needed to be piled neatly out of the way so I worked on that until it was almost time for Bill to come. (pix tomorrow) I called Gibbs outside and we sat together to wait.

I like to think that I don't miss too
much of what's going on outside.
This was a real treat!
A Cooper Hawk in our own back yard.

I showed Bill my table and he did marvel at how heavy it was but was proud I used his technique to get it up and in. I will get it sanded at some point and use it for puzzles. It is actually a nice old piece of furniture. We'll worry about its winter storage when that time comes.🤔

From every available window,
I followed him as he checked out our
wood pile.
Isn't he gorgeous!?

Bill and Gibbs had their snooze and he changed for our Catch the Ace meeting. We met the gang at 5:30 and got to counting tickets and $$. Leftover chicken in hot sandwiches tonight after we got home. It was good. Sheriff Country is on tonight so that will be part of our evening entertainment.

After a couple of drinks at
the club gathering, this was plenty.

Obviously, we didn't win but it was good that the Ace of spades was not found either. We have another chance next week!

It was a nice end to the week, Bill is thinking they'll be done this job early next week. We reached a high of 13.33C/56F by mid afternoon.

Seems May 8th is the day to see
unusual things up here on the Ridge.
This is 2020.
Beautiful!
Good night!

Thank you for your visit.
