Jello Jiggles, Even at Home

The Ridge

On Thursday, May 7th Bill was gearing up for his 2nd to last day of work this week. They are so close to finishing this job. It is helping the owner renovate the outside of his home, so weather has been a major factor for the past two weeks. Bill was up at 5:30 and saying goodbye to us when his phone rang.

Good morning!
First spring for this red squirrel
to visit. He seems to be alone
but I was happier with just Chippys.

Billy was sick so there would be no work today. There is just the two of them doing the job and Bill works under Billy. Things come to a halt when one can't make it. So, Bill did a rewind and undid his prep. Emptied his lunch pail, removed his boots and work clothes. πŸ˜‰

It wasn't a total disappointment, the day was dry and he did want to get the back field cut. He also had been asked by Robin if he would cut her lawn while she was away, so that worked out too. It meant he didn't have to do it after a day of work. All good things.

We needed propane so while Bill was getting the tank loaded in BB, I came to the conclusion that today would be a good day for me to drive to Walmart in Hanover with Ptooties. I like avoiding weekends if possible, so this was my opportunity too.

This is called supervision.
Boy, my boss has it easy!

When Bill returned from town and hopped on the mower, I took our growing list and drove off just before 10. Wow! Walmart was crazy busy, as was Dollarama and Independent Grocers. I did pick up some good food deals on some things so just made my way around the stores, happy.

Everyone seemed happy today. As busy as it was, others (men and women) just like me were as pleasant as could be. What a nice treat! When leaving Walmart, I pulled up to the garden skids that were lined up outside along the curb. I couldn't resist the price of $1.78/20 litres of black earth.

I got them up there and
it didn't take long at all.
Gibbs didn't help. 🐢🀭

I bought 10, loaded them and returned home by noon. Bill had finished the field(s) and was waiting to help me bring groceries in. We had lunch together after I put everything away. He and Gibbs had their 30 minute snooze and I addressed greeting cards.

My winter book arrived from Walmart.
I'm pleased with it except I ordered
the wrong size. Duh!

The postal delivery lady brought my photobook up since it wouldn't fit in the mail box. She told us that our box did indeed have to be raised. Darn! Bill has to wait for the letter indicating the required height.

We walked for the mail.
A race back and then he flops.
I'm sure he thinks I can't see him.

After she left, he drove the short jaunt to Robin's to take care of her grass. I think she's home on Monday or Tuesday so she will be pleased. It is a cold day. No matter how I look at it, 8.33C/47F is cold!

The sun made the briefest of appearances but  the wind worsened the situation. There I am talking about weather again! So, I bundled up and Gibbs and I went out to unload the 20-lb bags of dirt. That warmed me up!

Dandelions!

I couldn't stop there so spread out the latest purchase from Temu. This is the same material as my bags and gives me 8 more 'plots' for tomatoes. Now we just need things to warm up so I can get things in the ground. I won't buy any until then.

I'm getting anxious to fill
these bags now that they are in place.

Bill returned from Robin's around 3:30, a job well done, I'm sure. I had added enough dirt and top soil to the bags to keep them in place if the winds picked up and will continue to add more earth from our pile. Some muscle work is required! 🀣

As I was quilling, I looked out our back
window. Then I zoomed in on my picture.
That farm is quite a way down the road.

I worked on making more cards and Bill rested but Gibbs SLEPT. Wow, did he ever sleep. The fresh air does him good as things happened around him that he totally missed! That is so rare for Mr. Security. I started cooking potatoes for supper and making a salad.

He was so tired today!
I think he had a rough night too.

At Independent Grocers, I picked up a fully cooked bbq'd chicken with sauce on the side. It sounded and looked too good to leave and at $13, even I could make a meal for that, the ease of it was too great. It was all very good for a nice change.

Supper was good with
next to no effort.
(thanks Independent Grocers)

We cleaned up the pot used and will spend a quiet evening together. We all had a rough start to our sleep last night so I know I, for one, will have a good one tonight. It was a good day and Robin has asked me to clean the bnb tomorrow. Yay! Back in business.

We're an hour from sunset
so if it is lovely, you'll see it tomorrow.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

  1. Nothing wrong with taking shortcuts in meal prep, lol, it looks like it tasted great. Besides you had a busy day. I'll be interested in how those bags do for you so keep those pics coming.

    1. That's what I think too about meal planning. The chicken was delicious.
I hope Bill can get our water pump working for easy watering on what they are saying will be a dry hot summer.

  2. I pulled my garden bags from the garage yesterday and am itching to start planting. Mine are just 7 gallons so not heavy at all.

    1. That is a great size. Walmart has top soil on for a great price.

  3. I was wondering when you were going to start cleaning the BnB.
My son had some bags and found he was forever watering them, how do yours handle the lack of rain, or how often do you have to water?

    God bless.

    1. I'm not sure in comparison to watering if they were in the ground so can't really answer that. It seems like I have to water every other day when it's hot.

  6. You've had a very busy and productive week! I will interested to see how you make out with the grow bags. AND I am definitely going to Walmart to see if the dirt is a great deal like you found. I need to fill a couple of raised beds so I need a fair amount of dirt.
Like you, I'm definitely hoping for warmer weather so I can get my hands in the dirt.
    Have a great weekend!
