Scone Sunday! Delivery and Visit with Parents (all within 8 ½ hours)

Sunday, June 11th has come and gone. Almost, as I write this. I’m sitting outside with Bill and Clemson at 7:30 feeling a gorgeous breeze across our knees. How poetic, eh? Today was kind of a full visitation day, all for fun.
Couldn't ask for a nicer day
We were up before 8, showered, fed and on the road to London at 9:30. Clemson got to go along on this run into the big city. We drove to Shepherd Ave on the east end and arrived around 12 noon. It didn’t matter what time because it was Scone Sunday at Megan and Neil’s house.
Must be a classic car show on somewhere
Arrival can be anytime between 10 am and 3, walk in, have a cuppa your choice of brew, help yourself to one, two or 6 scones and stay as long as you like. This little gathering happens the second Sunday of every month, a tradition Megan carries on in honour of an uncle who passed away.

A number of people, friends and family are on her mailing list and you can come as often as you like, bring a friend and meet new ones. Bill and I have not been to a Scone Sunday since last June so we were overdue! It was a surprise to our hosts when we opened the door and walked in. Clemson played his normal shyness with Ribsy their little cockapoo.
Anxious for some warm scones

School is almost out for the summer
We had a great visit with all 10 of their guests since we’d met them all before at that very spot. She had a full house and that seldom happens. The scones kept coming, cheese ones and currant ones. Yum, yum, yummy! Best scones in London. At 1:30 or so we said our goodbyes and headed further west to our friend’s place.
Cheese scone anyone?

When we arrived at Brenda’s on Windsor Ave we were not surprised to find she wasn’t home. They had spent the night elsewhere and didn’t think they would be back on time to see us. Disappointing but we all have lives to live. Bill unloaded the shampoo chair and the curler rack on her porch and we retrieved the envelope of cash.
Brenda's beautiful home in Old South
Now it was time to find a Canadian Tire, Bill was looking for something in particular. Then we headed home towards Stratford. Stopping to see Dad and Marilynne was on our list because I haven’t seen them since the first week of April. It was another nice visit for about an hour before getting back on the road.
Farmers first hay cutting
This was a hot day and in the city with not much wind (in comparison) it was 33C. We had the air conditioning on in the car all the way there and back. The Suite when we arrived home at 6 was like an oven even though we left windows open. We should have kept it closed up perhaps. Oh well, the air was soon going to drop down a few degrees and in the meantime, we’d stay outside. We might need to turn the air on tonight.

I'm half crazy over the likes of you
It was another mishmash supper, tired and hungry we fixed our own things. Not even worth mentioning what they were but they hit the spot. As I am sitting outside working on my post, Bill and Clemson walked down to ‘check the mailbox’. Not expecting anything, but trying to get our four-footed friend into how far he can go before he has to turn around.
Our new chairs are very comfortable
I don’t expect much more to happen tonight, other than rounding up garbage for tomorrow’s pick up. This has been an awesome day and we spent it together from beginning to end. Apparently, it was another windy day up here but we didn’t notice anything out of place. The hatches were battened down. Right now, the wind is almost invisible and what there is, is so refreshing.
A little overboard, I think and you can't even hear it!
With Sunday night drawing to a close, we have decided to plug into electric tonight and turn the air conditioner on low. We have it so why not? As I said to Bill “it beats having a restless night”.

I hope your day was a good one and that you have enjoyed the weekend. We have.
Nighty Night

  2. How sweet that Megan carries on the Scone Sunday what a wonderful tradition! Wish our family was closer to be able to do something like that, but that's life. Brenda's house is gorgeous! You've got heat now and we had to have a fire in the wood stove all day! Today we're waking up to rain, wind and cold and by Wednesday it'll be 82! Crazy!

    1. I love the tradition too! Yes, Brenda bought her Dad's house when he passed. It is beautiful. She has a hair salon in the back room. Funny weather, how it can be so different! Enjoy the heat Wednesday!

  5. It was indeed a beautiful day at the Acreage as well. Very warm but with a nice breeze to cool us off as we sat by the pond listening to the different birds enjoying the day. There was a red-headed woodpecker in the dead tree behind us having his lunch I'm sure!

    1. Beautiful day, even the humidity didn't bother us. That breeze was perfect! Hope you got a picture of the woodpecker. :)
