A Good Night’s Rest, Dullness Abroad, Shopping and Tickets

I woke up on Saturday, Apr. 28th (that is wonderful in itself!) at 7:05. I was in bed last night at 10, I think, and slept really well. I woke with a couple of strange dreams but dropped right off again. Bill was up but there was a teeny little lump under the covers on his side of the bed. I did my leg stretches, which also helps to extend those back muscles I worked yesterday and slipped out of bed. Hard to make the bed with Clemmy still in it, so I just pulled the covers up for now. Bill had already made his coffee and was sitting at his laptop. “Mornin’, sweetie!”

The dull drive to Walkerton
After making my tea and dispensing my vitamins, I sat with him and read blog posts. I was interested in a regular commenter on a friend’s posts so checked his profile, leading me to his blog. Mister Ed had an interesting post from last fall that I copied and forwarded to a couple of our friends. It is related to MS sufferers and diet sodas. If you are suffering from the disease or similar afflictions you might want to check it out as well here.

Around 8 Bill had some cereal and then his shower. I wasn’t hungry yet but since we were going to be out for most of the morning, had some yogourt before we left the house at 9. I had a quick ‘bath’ in the sink (so to speak) rather than the shower today so I was equally fresh and Bill allowed me to ride with him. 😊 We knew not to expect anything great in the way of weather today with possible rain or white showers. The fog across the pond and the roadway was incredibly thick first thing leaving a rather spooky feel surrounding the area.

is interesting with the fish adorning the rails
I’m so grateful, yet again, that we aren’t still working at a regular day to day job looking forward to the weekends. After having a pretty nice week and then having a Saturday like this would just tick me off! We drove through Durham and Hanover to Walkerton to stop at Brown’s Pharmacy. They are selling the tickets for the Scott Wood’s Fiddle event at St. Paul’s Church. We have put together a group of 6 that want to attend the show with us in June. There is no doubt it will be another great performance and everyone will love it.

From there we turned around and stopped in Hanover to pick up Bill’s Stihl weed eater, all set and ready to work! It just needed a good cleaning out and now Bill knows what to look for next time. We dropped in on Donna and Gerry for about an hour and a half to discuss barbecue recommendations for them, house sales for our niece and The Ridge. We left with much lighter hearts after learning that Gerry has no thoughts of selling the property as long as we wish to use it. It was a concern we’ve harbored all winter. This was great news to us.

The Saugeen was rushing today again
Back home, it was just after the noon hour so I warmed up my leftover omelette and Bill made himself a sandwich. I needed a tea so made that and sat with Clemson and my book. Bill was sending an email to a school friend of his so I sat quietly reading so I didn’t disturb him. It is nice when we connect with our friends from our past and we go back and forth with our current statuses.

When Bill joined us in our chairs, he turned the television on and that distracts me enough to close my book. I could go upstairs but I enjoy watching some of the Live PD episodes. I’m sure I dozed with Clemson and there is no doubt that Bill did. He kept waking himself up. It was a very lazy afternoon, the weather being a big deterrent to us getting outside to walk with our Fitbits. So, no exercise today.

The wind whips our Canada flag from the northeast
No wonder they only last a season or two
For supper, I put a couple of pork chops in a pan with Shake and Bake for baking in the oven. I made a pasta side dish and our choice of vegetables. Cauliflower for me and corn for Bill. The whole day was kind of low key, as was our meal. We cleaned up dishes and I got into my book some more, still not giving up on Cold Mountain, yet. Bill called his Dad for a chit chat before we settled down for the night. All is well in Stratford so that is great news.

Today's pond picture
I hope you’ve had a warmer day than we have. The good news is that this is the last of our cold days for a while. It hasn’t risen above 29F/-1C all afternoon and even though there have been very few white ‘showers’ the winds have hovered between 40-45km at times. Brrr. I was hoping to squeeze a walk in but that isn’t happening tonight, it is too cold.

And Clemson was happy to get his sweater on today
Oh, and yes still bundles up with Daddy's sweater
Thank you for stopping by today! I love to hear from you and will respond to every post in time.

  3. I am very impressed with The Ridge. If I could find something as nice I sure might go the route you all are taking. But it won't be around my old home area since they brought in the slaughterhouse!! Stinks way too much and too many strangers now. So I'm still looking for a perfect Ridge like you all have. Summer at the home base and winter all over!! Great!!

    1. Thank you Don, we really got lucky with my bil's offer to stay here. So glad he is in no hurry now to sell it. Pray now that we all stay healthy enough to enjoy it!
It is a pretty good life, one we hope carries on for a few long years!

Sounds like a good day but that day yesterday kept us mostly inside. Soon the warmth will arrive..........tomorrow!

  5. So glad about The Ridge! I know you were concerned and now you know! That's awesome Gerry! You both take such good care of it and they know you love it. Boy that is cold! We went from our 80's to 57 as the high today and dark skies. Great that you have a group for the concert, I know you enjoyed the last one! How fun!

    1. Thank you! I know we bent a few ears over our concerns this past winter.

  6. I forgot to mention the diet soda and MS. I think I saw the same article. I used to drink a diet Pepsi maybe 1 every couple of days, gave it up over 5 years ago..just don't think those diet sodas are good for anyone, yes lower calories but the stuff they put in there, gives me the shivers..water, seltzer or an ice tea works (and for most alcohol drinks they work too) in my humble opinion..:)

    1. I appreciate your comment on the diet soda 'crap'. I've never enjoyed the taste and unless it is all a host has in the house for a mixed drink, never drank it.
Glad you don't drink it either. :)

  7. Hi Patsy: Back in my childhood which was many years ago a total wash of the body done in the sink or a washbasin was called a "Sponge bath". To this day with boondocking I still have sponge baths with showers on alternate days. It helps conserve our water supply. About the ridge property have you thought of buying the property yourselves or paying 1/2 of the property taxes maybe they would just like to be free of the burden of it. Read your blog all the time you guys enjoy. Kathy R. (It's about time)

    1. That is correct, it is exactly a sponge bath. A good hot bath in a tub is the only thing I miss living in our Suite. :)
The price Gerry would sell the Ridge for is beyond our means, our rent payments cover the property taxes now so that works for them. thanks for reading, Kathy and your comments.

  9. I think the diet soda/aspartame is the tip of the iceberg. Most of us have a diet of processed foods and we don't know what the heck we're eating anymore. My SIL has an autoimmune condition that causes problems with the nerves and muscles in her arms and legs. She was on steroids and got to the point where she couldn't do the stairs in her home. She tried a 'clean' diet; everything was organic. Even their pizza on Friday date night was organic! Within 3 months she was off steroids and she was running up the stairs. Unfortunately she couldn't stick with it .... processed food is just too easy, esp when you work FT. And now she's back on steroids.
It's no wonder that there are so many autoimmune disorders when you consider how we're bombarded with chemicals every day. Not just the food, but it's in everything around us; from soap to clothing, carpeting, cabinetry, furniture. Scarey.

    1. Thank you bonkers for your comment. I hope your SIL can get back on track because I totally agree about our foods etc. today. I believe in the natural foods and if I didn't get lazy about prepping meals, I know the benefits. Thank you for sharing the story, getting off steroids would be a bonus for so many!

  10. Glad things have worked out but maybe keeping an eye on something of your own may not be a bad idea either. Doesn't have to be a big piece of property, just an acre even. Something to think about at least.

Like you I'm tired of the weather. Spring can't arrive too soon to suit me. Love the new heading picture!!!

Enjoy your time at the Ridge.
