Quick Trip to Blythe, Peaceful Afternoon

We were up and out of bed on Friday, Jan. 18^th just a few minutes before 7. Bill had his coffee and once I could see across the desert clearly, at 7:20 I was out the door for my walk. I walked up the main road again and measured a mile so I know for the future. As I approached the trash dumpsters, I saw Wilf the maintenance guy chatting with someone who had just dropped a bag of garbage. Hmm, that was odd.

Good morning, Friday!

The big cardboard sign was nowhere to be seen but yellow caution tape and pylons were spread across most of the entrance plus a ‘Closed’ sign was visible by the large blue dumpster. I continued walking to the mile marker and turned around. There were 4 rigs in line for the dump station across the road and I knew that would only get busier as the day went on.

I walked up to Wilf and one of the volunteers from yesterday who organized personal trucks to take loads of garbage to the Transfer Station, 5 miles out of town. I thanked her on behalf of our group for their efforts and she informed me that the bins were now empty and the area was open. Wilf was removing the tape and sign.

I can’t believe that people get so riled up about the smallest of things. It’s trash for crying out loud! The stories each of them told me make me wonder why people have to be like that. We are all in the same boat together, get along! 

Back in business

I walked back and texted Rob to let him know that Bill and I would take them up on their offer to go into Blythe with them. Rob needed to visit Larry Green Ford briefly and we would appreciate a stop at Albertson’s for some dairy products.

At 9:30 that was our destination. Bill needed to stop at Ace Hardware for a purchase that he can tell you about if he wishes to do so, then we went to Albertson’s. Pat and I split on some eggs that were on sale and we each got what we needed before heading home. A quick stop in the Q at the Chevron for cheap gas for the gas can and then home.

I fried up eggs and bacon for lunch and I had a coffee. The sun is present and much warmer than yesterday and the temperature feels nice when you are out of the wind. It is 65F as I sit here at 1:30. A nice day. I went outside with my crocheting and enjoyed the fresh air. Bill dozed in his chair (he has managed to get the foot rest to open) and Clemson dozed in mine (with the blanket and my hoody all bunched under him). My boys are happy.

Eventually, Bill joined me outside with his model kit and soon enough it was 3:30, time to gather for Happy Hour. There is no obligation to do so but so far, something we all like to do. The conversation flows either two by two or in threes, whatever. At 5:00 it worked out that I was feeling chilled in my capris and light sweater so I moved first to head for home. That broke up the party which wasn’t my intention but someone has to be first, I suppose. 😊

Bill lit the Weber to grill a couple of pork chops. Oooh, my favourite! Bill knows it isn’t so offered to add some sauce while they cooked. All we were having with them was a salad and supper wouldn’t take long. We bought some more Tillamook ice cream today so if we felt hungry later there was that for dessert. My tummy was grumbling so our eggs and bacon from noon hour were wearing off. Our weather station said it was 71F outside but I beg to differ when you are in the wind.

and pawned the rest off on Bill
Not the chef's fault, I just don't like the taste of pork chops anymore

This was a great day with a morning trip into the ‘big’ city of Blythe and we stocked up on a few necessary items. The evening will be quiet with either some reading, crocheting and blogging. I hope you’ve enjoyed your day.
