G-G-Gorgeous Day! Early Thanksgiving Dinner with Family

The Ridge
On Saturday, Oct. 5th Bill and I were up by 7 and I was off to work for 7:30. Bill had his coffee and then drove B.B. over to get a bladder of water for the week. It isn’t because it was empty or too low, he just likes to top it up for me. When I was in at the Mat, I came across a washing machine that had a ‘broken’ sign on it but thought I’d wipe it out from the last user anyway. When I opened the door, water gushed out onto the floor! I quickly shut it and shot the mop to clean up my mess.

Frost on the 'pumpkin' this morning
so it was a good thing I'd covered my vegetables
Jamie had already had a similar issue with this machine but I didn’t expect there to be water in the tub. On the lighter side, I did get a kick out of the note on the sign. I should have written my thought on the bottom “don’t we all!”.

sign on the washer
When I returned home, Bill followed me up the lane about 5 minutes later with the water. We each had a hot drink and then went into town together. First, we went to FS Co-op to fill a propane tank and from there I walked to Crazy Dollar to pick up some birthday cards.

I left Bill to get the tank filled and walked down the street
I keep forgetting this dollar store because it is not in the main core
of downtown
When I came out, I walked back as far as the Esso station where Bill was getting fuel in the truck. Last stop was the bank, or actually that was first, to get cash for the cards and then back home again. Jiggity jig. I started right away preparing the potato casserole recipe that I’d chosen for dinner. It went together well and was all ready by 11:30. Bill had his shower and I got washed up before making our bacon and eggs. We were dressed and out the door by 1:15 on our way to Sebringville.

Fuel up
It was a beautiful day, the sun was out in all its glory with a lovely blue sky. The temperature wouldn’t get above 64F but no complaints here. We arrived at Carol and Brian’s house at 3, greeted by Marilynne (my Mom-in-law) and Liz, Bruce and Aunt Ruthie arrived soon after. The sun had disappeared and along the drive, I'd longingly looked back the way we'd come to still see blue skies.

A beautiful view this morning could only be made
better by...........

Our geese were visiting!

The clouds were taking over the sky by the time we arrived
We had lots of time to sit and visit before dinner. It was nice that Bill’s daughter, who lives in Stratford just a few miles away, dropped around for a visit. Jess, Matt and Easton stayed for a drink and snacks before leaving us ‘adults’ for our Thanksgiving meal.

My potatoes turned out great!
Such a happy little guy
Bill's Aunt Ruthie got a kick out of Easton
His Daddy was playing one of his favourite games

Easton seems to grow and get happier every time we see him. Jess says he is 20-lb. now and there are 5 little white biters in that little mouth of his. He went from one lap to another and then stretched out on the floor for a while. We all agree that he is a very good baby. He will be 7 months old on the 11th. Hard to believe! He has his bag packed for the Cancun flight so ahead of all of us! 😊

Not crawling yet but he drags himself around and rolls over a lot
Dinner was wonderful and Carol had a nice table set for the 8 of us.

We were so happy to get this visit in today
Left to right around the table: Bruce, Patsy, Bill, A. Ruthie, Brian, Carol,
Marilynne and Liz
This was a great idea and we were happy to see Bill’s siblings before leaving for the winter. I’ll be seeing mine on Thanksgiving Sunday as well. We enjoyed sitting around after dessert and a coffee. It wasn’t until 8:30 that we decided we’d better get on the road, we had an hour and a half’s drive home. At 9:45 we pulled in and turned our heater on low to warm up the 52F Suite for overnight sleeping.

potato casserole, turnip, turkey, ham, green bean casserole, stuffing, pickles and tomatoes
from Brian's garden - YUMMY!
Carrot cake, apple pie and ice cream
Tiny portions and deliciously delightful
We were tired but agreed to read up in bed for a bit since it was the warmest place to be. I only got a few short chapters read before saying goodnight and rolling over to turn off my light. Bill followed soon after. Sigh, this was a great day!

and a spooky moon to end the evening
Good night all!

Thank you for popping by!

    1. Easton is such a charmer and is so content.
I just googled potato casserole and it was an option. I don't pay much attention to what site it is from, just copy it into a document I can keep. Nice and easy though!
It was nice to have gathering with Bill's sisters.

      8 SERVINGS
      PREP TIME 10 MINUTES

      COOK TIME 40 MINUTES

      TOTAL TIME 50 MINUTES
      INGREDIENTS
      • 3 lbs. Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced into bite-size pieces (about 6 cups)
      • 1 (10 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
      • 1/2 cup sour cream
      • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
      • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
      • 3/4 cup medium cheddar cheese, freshly grated
      • 1/3 cup chopped green onions
      • 1/4 cup milk
      • 1/4 teaspoon salt
      • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
      • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
      INSTRUCTIONS
      1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
      2. Fill a large pot with salted water and add the potatoes. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, just until the potatoes are tender. Be careful not to overcook the potatoes or they will fall apart when added to the other ingredients. Drain to potatoes and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process, then drain again.
      3. In a large bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, cream cheese, and butter. Add in 1/4 cup of the cheddar cheese, all but 1 tablespoon of the green onions, the milk, garlic powder, salt and pepper and stir until everything is mixed together. Gently stir in the cooked potatoes, trying not to mash them too much. Pour the creamy potatoes into a large rectangular baking dish and transfer to the oven.
      4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the potatoes are completely heated through. Remove the potatoes from the oven and immediately sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cheddar cheese, which will melt after just a couple of minutes. Sprinkle the creamy potluck potatoes with the remaining 1 tablespoon of chopped green onion and serve.

  7. What a wonderful time with family, and the food looks so good. Your grandson is adorable. Nothing better than a child's giggles and laughter. Thanks for posting your recipe. I enjoy trying new things and it's a good time of year to do so with the holidays just around the corner.
