Long but Great Day

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 27^th Bill and I were up at the crack of dawn, a bit before even. It was 5:45 when I hopped in the shower. This time is not unusual for many of you, even late for some, but for us it is early. When I came downstairs, Bill did the same. We knew it was going to be a hot day again so opened some windows and then pulled blinds down.

 We were on the road for London at 7 am. With just a coffee and tea in our tummies we planned on a Tim Horton’s Classic breakfast sandwich once we arrived at our destination. It was a good 2 ½ hour drive without any problems. Those are the best drives! Not that we expect to have issues, you just never know. Traffic, once we got onto the 401 highway, was busy enough with a lot of transports making their way across the area.

It was 9:30 when we arrived at CanAm on the west end. Bill had ordered parts that were ready for us and we picked up a couple of other small items. It was nice to see the gang although very strange, everyone in the required masks and keeping the distances between each other. No hugs allowed. There was some discussion with Peggy, our service Manager, about getting the Suite in but we are in no rush and will wait until later in the summer.

When we left there, we went to Costco, south west end. The parking lot was busy and there were a lot of people in the store but when we were finished loading our listed items into the cart there was no line at check out. That is rare. It is kind of nice as they unload, price and reload your items. Works for us! Next stop was to be Henry’s to see about my camera repair but they haven’t opened yet. They aren’t even answering the phone. Good grief!

It was nice to see Charlotte and Cory too

Bill needed a couple of hobby items so we drove to AVF on the east side of the city. Now that the ‘chore’ part was taken care of, we connected with and drove to Charlotte (Bill’s daughter #2) and Cory’s house in the northern area. We sat on their back patio and gave them their gifts and chatted for about an hour. It was nice to see them and the 2 girls. They have shot up in height, Chelsea reaching the skies like her Dad and Olivia taking more after her Mom.

I texted Patrick, my son, who has returned to work full-time, and made arrangements to stop by Rycor to see him. He wanted hugs and I most definitely wanted the same. My teddy bear son with a ‘laid back’ demeanor and soft heart. 😊 This is a small but thriving countertop/cabinet business but family owned and very flexible.

He enjoys working there and we were invited to take a tour of their expanding shops and showrooms. With a staff of less than 10, I like the environment. We left him with their gifts and he had my ‘winter’ purchase of a Fitbit for me. Yay!

That was it, we were done with London. Thirty minutes out, on the way home, we stopped in Ingersoll, accepting an invite for a visit with Ken and Kim. Our food was in our plug-in cooler and/or freezer bags with the exception of one item that we popped in their fridge during the visit.

It was a hot 29-30C/85F day. We moved out back, Kim and I, while the boys went downstairs to see Ken’s newly built RC plane. He has done a great job, according to Bill. His first, but I’m sure not his last, build.

Miami Vice! Yay!

The time flew by with many laughs and an encompassing conversation. It was 5 and a couple of delicious Miami Vices later when Bill and I decided we’d better get on the road. It was 2 hours to home. During the visit, Bill received a call from our friend, Mike, with an offer of a couple of days’ work with him so that was some good news. The drive home was also uneventful, I felt a bit tired from the drink and just the long day but Bill did awesome getting us to Durham shortly after 7.

We had planned on the chip wagon in town, there is a new one we’ve never tried. However, the new one wasn’t there (maybe just weekends?) and the old one hadn’t opened for the season yet. They are missing an opportunity in my mind but whatever. Rather than go home and have to put together a fast mac and cheese dinner, we went to Riverside Fish and Chips at the other end of town and ordered their 1 pc. meals with fries.

We never learn and should have only got 1 order of fries. Oh well. We brought it home and chowed down in the comfort of our own home. It was good and hit the spot. Bill brought the items in from the Rav and we found space for it all. There is a lot of meat, something we needed to stock up on, so I will be separating it in the morning for the freezer.

This was an awesome day, all the way around. We watched a movie until 11 and crawled into bed. That is what it felt like. It was cool enough inside that I didn’t even open a window for easy sleeping.
