Busy Morning, Hot Afternoon

The Ridge
On Monday, July 6th it was my turn to work while Bill got the day off. It was already hot by the time I left the Ridge at 7 for the Mat. No one arrived to do their laundry and I was able to take my time giving things an extra touch up. Dryer windows and washer fronts all got a good cleaning as well as the normal wipe downs.

I finished with a wet mop and was proud of the condition I left it in. Bill needs me to keep topped up on Zero Coke, especially in this heat. He drinks more of it, not being a water drinker. We also soon will be out of bread for his lunches so I drove to Foodland. I picked up some peppers, tomatoes and my tortillas but the shelves for pop and bread were almost empty. Only whole wheat or rye, which Bill doesn’t eat.

Following Mitch down Baptist Church Road past the road
workers patching holes
Back home, I had my tea and saw Bill down in his Hangar. Rob arrived around 9:30 to help Bill check the alignment on the Suite and I left them drinking a coffee at 9:45. Mitch had sold one of his small pick up trucks so I followed him as we drove to Hanover to deliver it. He has an Acadia SUV so it was very similar to our Rav 4 for me to drive.

When we returned to his place, I worked on the Plymouth for another hour. That was the hottest I’ve ever been with perspiration dripping into my eyes. There was absolutely no breeze coming in through the garage door and by noon, I told Mitch that I felt like Elvis. I agreed to come back in the morning, but earlier this time, before the heat of the day is too much. We reached 32C/88F by 2 pm today and that was the peak.

Lunch
I returned home to Bill and told him once I cooled down, I would have my shower and then we needed to get something to eat. That shower felt great and I put together a plate of my lunch stuff and Bill had some toast. From then on, the day just got hotter and I couldn’t get comfortable at all. Again. Everywhere I went, I took my book and tried to get comfy. Bill managed to work away down in his area without noticing the heat as much. Around 2:30 we had an ice cream cone with my homemade ice cream. It was refreshing and delicious.

We had supper at 6:30 but it was nothing cooked. I’ve noticed the Suite hotter than anything we’ve felt so tomorrow, back to bedroom a/c. We had a nice full-bodied lettuce salad and after dishes, I moved out to the dining tent. Finally, even though no breeze, I could feel myself cooling down. Bill joined me around 8:30 and we relaxed for half hour before moving inside. We called our friends Marlene and Benno to touch base and the rest of the evening was pretty low key.

Basically only food pictures today
But good food
Good night!
I hope you have a/c where you are and managed to get some relief today. The air temperature started cooling down before 9 and was a comfortable 25C/77F for most of the evening. We should reach 17C/64F in the wee hours. We are on a roll!

Thanks for popping in!

  1. And in the winter we want warmth.
Wise to work outside during the early hours when it's cooler.

    1. Exactly! Sounds like we're never happy. I actually work on the car inside a garage with the big door open which isn't too bad unless there's no Breeze like yesterday.

  2. I'm feeling bad that we aren't traveling the way we'd like to be right now because it is so hot here, but it sounds like even going north might not be much better. The Colorado Rockies would be nice, but unfortunately, that's not on the agenda. I hope you get some cooler breezes soon. Be careful and don't over heat.

    1. Yes it sure has put a damper on travel for a lot of people. We don't use that go far in the summer but I know a lot of you have made trips further north when it's hot.

  3. I do love salads in the summer. Best not to get overheated. Working earlier in the mornings is much better.

    1. Yes I told Mitch I can only do a couple of hours in the morning and then as early as possible. I drink lots of water. I added tuna to the salad so we got a little more protein that way.

  4. Your lunch and dinner plates both look yummy, perfect for a hot day! Sounds hot and yucky working on the Plymouth! Agreed earlier is probably better and remember your water! :)

    1. Thank you. I am drinking lots of water. I realized I don't have to work everyday but if I waited for it to cool down it could be a week and a half before I'm able to help with the car. 2 hours is a good stretch and while Bill's working I'm enjoying being out too.

  5. You're certainly getting hammered by the heat. We've had the odd day, today being one of them, of the high temperatures but it's been not bad in the mid-20's for most days.

    Have a great day!
