Taking Care of Business and Making Headway on the Pickup – We Think

 The Ridge

Thursday, Aug. 20th I got to lounge in bed again for a few minutes after Bill got up. His 6:15 alarm gets him moving but since I didn’t have to clean this morning, I stayed right where I was until 6:45. I was toasty warm in between the jersey sheets and when I heard the furnace kick on, I knew it was chilly in the bathroom for his shower.

Good morning!

I joined Bill downstairs after we made the bed, and I had my tea. It almost feels liberating when I don’t have to go anywhere – until 9. 😊 Wait until the weekend, it will feel like a get out of jail card FREE! I know, I know, it is my choice to work but I still do not regret that decision for a minute. I’m helping us get back on our feet and helping us with tires, brakes, windshields etc. etc. I feel good to be doing my part and at something that I do enjoy.

The cows are across the road, heading for greener grass?

Bill left and I took the time to read what our friends who write blogs are up to. Some days I don’t get to them so now I’m caught up. I dressed in my work duds and drove to Mitch’s. First thing we took care of was to contact the Auto Glass place Mitch recommended us to in Dundalk. I’d left a message yesterday but wasn’t getting any reply so Mitch called at 9 and handed me the phone when Larry answered.

Just a picture looking out over Bill's Hangar

It was a windy day but no complaints here

I felt much better getting a ‘live’ person and we made arrangements to take the truck over next week. Then, I texted Bill to tell him so he could relax about it. It is frustrating when a business doesn’t call back, especially one whom you’ve never dealt with before. Larry sounds like a nice enough guy and explained that he was on holidays this week so not in the office to answer the messages that were left. All is well now.

A walk down to the mailbox

Mitch had finished the truck hood and pulled the truck up as far as he good to get the next vehicle, a 2015 Ford Edge, as far into his garage as he could. I worked on sanding the driver’s door. The owner has been a nuisance, calling constantly and most recently told Mitch that he didn’t think it needed all the work we were doing. You gotta be kidding me! Mitch said, ‘Don’t be surprised if when you come back tomorrow it is gone’. If it isn’t, he owes more money to complete the job. It is a mess.

More pictures of the cows for a friend

They were too busy eating to watch me but this little guy had me smiling
Moooo!

After almost 3 hours, I had to stop and do some hand sanding. The door was done and I had a few minutes to work off. I won’t gip Mitch by leaving before the hour is up. Show up on time and leave on time, that’s just the right thing to do. I wrote my hours on the calendar and called it a day. Er, a morning. I was pretty dusty today so immediately had my shower before getting something to eat. Today, I had bacon and an egg with some cheese.

From the east side of our property, our Suite is barely visible through
the shrubbery

The forecasted weather today is a lovely 25C/77F but it is windy so not sure if we’ll get that high. Nevertheless, the sun is nice and there are very few clouds. I almost said ‘very few cows’ as I’m looking out the window at the bovine across the road in the field. Loree would get a kick out of that! Better get a picture for her when I walk to the mailbox. 😊 It’s almost 2:30; the mail lady will have passed so I’ll go down now.

I was very sneaky as I crept across the front field to see if the turtles
were out again today

I don't think I've seen this many on the log before!

The flyers were in the box with a couple of pieces of junk mail, the cows were in the field and the turtles were on the log. Boy, were the turtles on the log! I’m glad I had my camera this time. What a beautiful day! When I got back up, I changed into shorts and a tank top, grabbed my book and stretched out on the hammock. I got a few pages read before I felt the sleepiness moving in. Why fight it? I dozed for a few minutes, read more, dozed again.

Selfie on a beauty of a day

At 4:35, Bill drove in. He wasn’t long chatting and went indoors to change and a nap. I read a wee bit longer and joined him inside. We watched NCIS reruns again until 6 when I started supper. Fish and chips tonight. Bill brought the Fry Daddy in and once the oil was heated, I heated the lard in a fry pan for the haddock. The few straight cut fries needed 15 minutes and the shoestrings (woops! I bought 2 different kinds) only needed about 5 minutes so they went in the fryer at separate times.

I do love our hammock

Aside from the turtles and the young calf, this would be my favourite picture

We were eating and doing dishes before 7. The sun was shining in the windows so we had to pull the blinds down in order to see tv but once more, it was out in full force late afternoon. This was a good day and I really appreciated the afternoon of quiet. I hope you had a good day and those of you in the throes of heat got some relief.

Supper was good and filling
We had a couple of slices of fresh pineapple for dessert
Yum yum yum

And one last picture of our pretty sky
Good night y'all!

Thank you for visiting us today!

  5. That's a whole lot of turtles! When my kids were young and being slow about leaving the house in the morning I used to say to them, "we're off like a herd of turtles". It suddenly occurs to me that I'm not certain that a group of turtles is a herd. :)

    Have a great day!
