Looking on the Bright Side – Always

Yuma Lakes RV Resort

On Saturday, Apr. 9th we were all up before 7 again. We slept well, with windows open and the temperature dropping to 60F/16C, it was like we were able to breathe easily again. Gibbs and I went for a walk and then I put the kettle on for our tea. A coffee will taste great when we have one again. We aren’t ‘ground’ or ‘instant’ coffee people at home so we’ll drink our tea for now. 😊

A beautiful morning in a pretty park

My sister has generously offered us their spare Keurig but it’s back home in Chatsworth. We’ll still take her up on it when we return home, our $$ will be a bit tied up with fixing our home. It’s nice to have a spare so when we pick one up for ourselves, we’ll return it so they have it in case of emergency again.

there's a small lake here if you wanted
to take a small boat or kayak out in it

First thing on the agenda was to get food on ice so Bill drove to Smart and Final to pick up some dry ice. We’d called and they said ‘yes, we have it!’ They didn’t have any when he arrived so he went to Fry’s and picked up 3 – 2 lb. blocks plus a large bag of ice cubes. With those purchases, we re’thunk’ our choices and decided to return the cooler that we bought yesterday and just continue using our fridge as a cooler.

Baby palm shoots, must be spring!

Placing the 3 ice blocks between fridge and freezer, I bagged the cubes into 5 or 6 separate Ziplock bags. These could be spread out around the milk, the crisper and cheeses. We’re looking for a positive in all of this and we still stick to the ‘it could be a whole lot worse’ theory; plus there’s a pool and an air-conditioned clubhouse here. We have food, water, a roof over our heads and we’re healthy, so we’re in pretty good shape! 😊

the pool thermometer is withstanding the heat
but it sure looks suntanned!
I didn't notice the Celsius markings until now

We all went for the drive back into Walmart to return the cooler. When Bill came back out, I nipped in for some potato chips, a treat for a Saturday night would be another positive now, wouldn’t it? Bill filled our water jug while waiting and we headed for home. We’d closed the Suite up good with all windows closed and blinds pulled down so it was half decent inside. So far. When he plugged us in first thing, there was a whole lot of beeping going on so that didn’t last long.

When I returned from the pool, Bill and Gibbs
were having a serious conversation 💕

We sat and lay still like grass, with our fans going, trying not to stir up the hot air. I had to eat something for lunch so had an apple with cheese and avocado before Bill sent me off to the pool. He was quite happy to stay home with Leroy Jethro Gibbs and they had snoozes while I was gone. I enjoyed the pool again, always meeting new people. Some are quite fun and today was that couple. They are the ones across from us who Bill helped by boosting his car. I’d never seen them and they'd not seen me before so neither of us clued in.

While Bill barbecued, I opened the outside door
and caught the tail end of the sunset

Back home a couple of hours later and hot all over again. There’s a lovely breeze and it had cooled off a teensy bit so that we opened some windows to get a flow-through breeze. It didn’t help a lot but until that sun drops behind the trees, no point in sitting outside. Gibbs has been so good, withstanding the heat. He’s a special little guy.

I should name them, they always turn out so good
Introducing "Bill's Best Burger"!

Around 6:30, Bill started grilling burgers. You know the kind. Bacon cheeseburgers. As usual, they were delicious and it was all we needed. If we need to, there are chips for later. We washed and dried the dishes by hand, good thing we remember how to do that, and I went out with Gibbs to sit in the breeze.

I love the palm trees, can you tell?
That's the moon up above it
Mrs. Dove was back on the same branch for a while
but flew away before I took this picture

Enjoying the breeze and cooler air

Doesn't that feel nice, little bum?

It was beautiful out there! The sun had gone down and the palms overhead were rustling in the wind. Finally, we could sit out there with no flies, they had left for the evening.

He wasn't the only one enjoying it!

Before closing, I (we) want to thank all of our concerned friends and readers who have reached out with hints, tips and just plain good wishes regarding our troubles. Hearing from a couple of you on the phone was so nice. 😍 Just being able to brainstorm and express what we’re dealing with to supportive ears is helpful. We are blessed and  you are all another positive. 😊

Good night!

Thank you for stopping in to see how we’re doing. Your comments mean a lot to us.

  1. Looks like a lovely evening to sit out and enjoy the breeze. Gibbs looks pretty content. I really like the picture with the palm tree with the moon above. Sounds like you have at least solved the problem of keeping everything in the fridge cold which is a big thing for traveling back home. Hopefully, it will be an easy and not to expensive fix to get everything running again. In the meantime enjoy your spot in the desert. Sending lots of hugs.

  3. Oh the stories you will have to tell!!! I sure hope the fridge is an easy fix. At least you were still in an area that has lots of services. Maybe sneak Gibbs over to the pool at night! I'm doing a "cool weather" dance ... hoping it sends you cool nights and cooler days. Hang in there!!

I thought he'd like the lake better. LOL
Our evenings are cooling down as soon as the sun drops. 59F tonight and that's perfect!

  4. First off, great new header pic, you two look great! Hopefully limping along in the fridge department will be doable, and you'll be able to get it fixed real soon. Pretty park for sure, glad you've got a pool available.

    1. Thank you, sometimes we clean up pretty good! haha
I think we have a handle on the fridge problem for the trip home but I get a bit down when I think of doing it long term until we can get it repaired. LOL
Thanks, it is a pretty park and the pool is saving me!

  5. The photo of Bill and Gibbs having their conversation made me smile. That pup has sure brought lots of joy to your lives, even when you're dealing with the heat.
It sounds like you've got a temporary fix for the fridge for the time being. I hope it's easily resolved.

  6. Gosh darn it's hot down there! Probably the smartest and easiest way to deal with all the food, so much better than an ice chest! It is really nice you've got that pool to spend time in! Gibbs is just too adorable! :)

    1. Too hot really, especially without a/c. :) We don't plan on staying this long again but when we left late, we didn't want to get home too early either.
The pool is wonderful, I'm enjoying it.

  7. Hang in there. Hoping you get the situation resolved before you hit the road. I know how hot it can be without air. Sometimes you have to be thankful for what you have when dealing with a problem. It is hard but stay positive. It will work out. Wishing you a good result.

We are definitely thinking of the positive side, grateful because we know of worse situations.
