Walmart, Socorro, New Mexico
Saturday, Apr. 8th I had a good sleep until 5:30 when I heard Bill up and his sleep was off and on. We’re both excited to be continuing our journey so started our routine at 6. By 7:10, we were pulling out of Quail Ridge Rv Park. It was 45F/7C and a clear blue sky. Perfect! We wore shorts and t-shirts as we knew it was going to be warm all day for our trip.
First time I almost caught the sunrise
Good, no GREAT morning!
Can you see the smile on Black Beauty's face? I can! |
It was a
good drive on I-10E with minimal traffic increasing the later it got. Being
Easter weekend, we were pleasantly surprised. The interstate was pretty good
for the most part but once you hit a bad stretch in the pavement, it rattled
enough to make up for the good ones. It’s all part of the trip and we take it
in stride. At 9:00 we pulled off into the San Simon Rest Area for a leg stretch
and to take care of a drink for the little bum.
The scenery was phenomenal! |
First time ever that weve seen an Amtrac train go through down south |
These are
10-minute stops and as we pulled out, we entered New Mexico. Bill commented
that we lost our Saguaros a while ago, not in Arizona anymore. We immediately lost
an hour, switching into Mountain Daylight Time. We were enjoying the ride and
the positive feeling as we listened to Y2Country on our Sirius. Lots of our
favourite tunes. π
The Rest areas are usually very nice places
to take a breakNice that it was busy but there was still room
for us
At 11, we
crossed the Continental Divide at 4500’ elevation. The temperature is a lovely
65F/18C and we are 25 miles from Deming where my siter and b-i-l are staying
until tomorrow. Weekends are good times to travel because if there is
construction along the route, they aren’t working. Parts of I-10E have already
been worked on and it was just as we like it, nice and smooth. π
Here is where we lost an hour
We'll find it next fall when we return
I had problems with my picture transfer again so you're getting the shortened version Lucky for you! Tomorrow, I'll be borrowing Bill's small Canon camera. |
Reaching Deming, we noticed the Valero fuel was $3.94.9/gal so pulled in to top Black Beauty up. We then turned onto NM26 towards Hatch where we’ll stop for lunch. Egg salad sandwiches and cheese. I’d hoped we could stop along the highway in front of the shops but that hope was unwarranted so we carried on to the Texaco after turning left. We just parked and ate lunch, deciding not to walk back to town. No biggie, we save money when we do it this way!
We were back on the road at 12:50 and caught I-25N for another long stretch of highway. It is sure warm now, 75F/24C, sitting facing the sun for most of the way. I turned the a/c on as soon as we pulled out. π
It was a peaceful, low traffic, good road-drive for 95% of
our day and we arrived at a Super Walmart in Socorro, New Mexico for the night
at 2:50 MDT. There are the occasional wind gusts and the clouds have movedin but it is still very warm. Just
lovely!
I'm almost afraid to say it but Black Beauty ran beautifully today. We've put it behind us and are looking forward to the rest of the trip.
A snooze and...... then a peek out the back window
to check on our home
Bill
noticed a family restaurant across the lot so guess who isn’t cooking tonight? ♥ We rested, dozed and read until 5:30 when we walked over. The evening
will be quiet and after doing a mental inventory of our food situation, I don’t
think we’re in need of anything from the store. Maybe I’ll pop in for a couple
of Easter goodies later, when it isn’t so busy. I’m sure there are a lot of
Easter bunnies inside!
You can imagine my delight at seeing these
little earth movers! They're so cute! I grabbed my big Canon to zoom in
I knew they'd run into their holes when
I got too close
It was a
quiet evening after a great day. We traveled 7 hours and 347.7 miles since we left Quail Ridge Gibbs was the best little riding companion
today other than his concern over Bill’s choices to turn and slow down. π After each snooze in his bed, he’d sit up and look out the back
window. Just to ensure that it wasn’t a dream that his home was following him,
I think. ♥
Home after supper out
and this is where Gibbs has to sit.I don't know how he can be comfy
in that small space.
I'm not!! π
Good night!
Thank you all again for your continued support and your visit today.
Cruising right along!! Really nicer to eat out. No dishes or cleanup. Lol
