Better than Expected!

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 25th I slept in upstairs until 7:30 and after Bill and Gibbs went out at 6:30, they also slept in. Bill downstairs in his recliner, yes, I could hear him. 😊 It had been a cool night but not as cold as it has been some nights this month.

Yes! We'll be seeing it today despite
the forecast!

When we looked out, it was very foggy again and quite thick. I made my tea and Bill started into his cereal when Peter, a flying friend, called to see if Bill was going to the field. He was seeing sunshine and blue sky so it didn’t take my pilot to make up his mind, hook up and go as well.

The forecast called for rain (surprise!) around noon for a couple of hours. I had a banana with some yogourt and hopped in the shower. Sometimes I do things backwards but I wanted that out of the way first thing. I bundled up, more than was necessary, and went out to re-string my weed eater. 😊

I took to the hills and
finished most of my weed trimming.

Within an hour and a half, I was able to finish 95% of what I’d planned when the string assembly and the drive shaft cable completely came out. What next? This wouldn’t happen when Bill was using it, of course not! Anyway, that was it for me. I was overly hot and then wished I’d waited for the shower until after this job. LOL. Did I say I was overdressed? Well, I was.

I will not give up on it, yet.
I  bought it 2nd hand for $20 in
London, 2010.
I will be YouTubing a how-to.

The wind breaker came off. The hoody came off and Gibbs and I sat around the campfire that I managed to get started. 😊 The sun was out and it was quite nice, with temperatures in the low teensC/mid 50’s. Bill was home at noon hour and we had lunch together.

My few plants.
More tomatoes than anything since
that is what we eat most.
Notice the 2 (bottom corner) who
never seemed to have a chance.

I kept the fire going under clouds that were quite threatening at times but we never did get the rain. Yay! Now it was his turn and after fiddling with my trimmer for a bit, he set out with his own Stihl to do more whacking in areas that are too thick or challenging for lil ole me.

My shadow. 💖
He followed me and kept me in his
sights the whole time.

I was done for the day so just enjoyed the fire and tending to my vegetable plants. Dare I plant them yet? I did decide to plant the 3 Brussel sprout seedlings in one of my grow bags but tomorrow I will need to pick up some of the fertilizer recommended before I go any further.

Top picture: I did the far end of the
corral.
Bottom picture: Bill did the top end on
the hill top.

We all relaxed inside when Bill finished and the sun disappeared for a bit. I’m almost finished my David Baldacci book and tonight will probably be the end of it. So hard to put it down! I prepared a pan of lasagna for supanper; it has been a while and our meat supply in the freezer is getting low. This would finish the ground beef.

I enjoy having a fire going

My lasagna is always runny (sloppy) and no matter how much I drain it, it seems greasy. Oh well, it tasted very good and we have leftovers for another night. How I wish I’d made some of my rolls! Bill used bread to clean his plate. We had some ice cream for dessert, can’t wait until that is gone from the house!

Like our burgers..........
Ooey gooey good.

It was a great day, with outside work able to be completed. The Ridge looks so much nicer with the trimming done. We reached a high of 13C/56F under partially sunny skies. By 6:30, the blue outweighed the white in the sky by a long shot. We are grateful!!

Our little furball rang the bell to go out.
He promptly sat on the step and kept
watch for about 15 minutes.
Once all was secure, he came in. 😍
No sunset last night to show you
but maybe tonight. 👌
Good night!

Thank you for popping in.

  1. I think your weather is what we might be headed into out west but it will get better for you soon I'm sure. Yum on the lasagna and good work with all that ridge manicuring.

    1. If we think positively, hahaha, the weather will get better. I am also thinking positive about the blackflies dying a quick death!! haha

  2. I started planting yesterday. Things were getting a bit bedraggled and needed in the ground. The weather is nicer now and all should be okay.
Gibbs is looking out for you both very well I see.

    God bless.

    1. Good for you! I don't know how well my plants will do, but I'm hopeful!

  3. The grease in your lasagna is mostly from the cheese. Cook the noodles al dente .. meaning not very soft at all ... and they will soak up some of the moisture from the sauce as it bakes in the oven. As for the weedeater ... my gardener just told me to take the plastic guard off and leave it off. Much easier to SEE the string, where it's going and where it's cutting. I'm going to try it.

    1. Thanks Nancy. My noodles are usually the ones already oven ready. Precooked. I don't mind the grease (keto diet and all) but it looks gross. :)
The weedeater.......hmm, I thought the guard would protect my plants better. Interesting. I'm terrible at going around them.

  4. A hint for those straggly tomatoes: remove the lower leaves and plant it deep so that the lower several inches of the stem are covered.
I'd say the weed eater has paid for itself many times over. Good luck with the diy fix.

    1. Thank you! I was just watching a Youtube video about just that. Also that it shouldn't be in the sun all the time like the tag says. I learned a few things and some of it was about pinching the suckers off........when to do it and when not to do it.
Yes, the weedeater owes me nothing!
