Another Safe, Place to Park

Picacho Peak RV Resort

On Friday, Oct. 24th there was no lazing around this morning BUT, because we were up before 7, we did take our time with cereal for Bill and yogourt for me. Then we began the pack up. I caught the lovely sunrise and by 8:10 am, we were pulling out of EBLSP.

Good morning!

It was pretty straight forward, through Hatch, where we turned on US26W and then Deming, where we got onto I-10W. We stopped at 11 MST for a break in Lordsburg, NM and it is one of the nicest rest areas we've stopped at. Not as far as outside,
but the building and casitas itself.

Hatch, Chili capital of the world

Across the road was a Maverick and it happened to be a Mudflap station as well so we pulled in to top up. Black Beauty wasn't too thirsty but that meant that this would  be our necessary only fuel stop before our destination. It was slow because of a pump not working and well, you don't need to know the details.

Those are some BIG tires!

It was 30 minutes before we were back on the interstate. The temperature had risen from 53F/12C this morning to 63F/17C by noon. Once on the road, we waited to cross into Arizona for lunch. We had decided we wouldn't stop again, it was 11:30, we would just eat our sandwiches on the drive.

Gibbs was not his usual calm self today for some reason, but it is what it is and we dealt with his panting for most of the day. He'd calm for a few minutes and then sit up again. We don't worry if we know all things are dealt with. Water, piddle and poops taken care of.

No surprises on the drive for the rest of the journey but it seems I've taken a lot of pictures today. They will speak for themselves (kind of, with inscriptions). You can check out Bill's blog here for our route and anything else he might add. 😁

Okay, I'm a bit sarcastic. 🤭

Getting through Tuscon with all the construction was the worst but Bill handled it with ease. I had my hand on the door grip most of the time. I hate the speeds through the busy cities at the best of times.

Once out of that mess, we carried on another 50 minutes and pulled off on Exit 219 to Picacho Peak RV Resort. You may remember me mentioning meeting our friends each winter at Eloy for lunch. We've done that for a few years, down and back.

This fall, we opted to stop in their park for 2 nights instead. Their son and his wife, Rick and Amy, have also just arrived and we met them many 'moons' ago before we even started full-timing. It will be great to see them again too.

Meet Rocky, Nancy and Ken's
2 year old HavaPoo
Reminded me of Clemson 💖
but traits of Gibbs too.

We pulled into Site 18, beside the clubhouse (and pool) and it is now 82F/28C. Woohoo! Summer is back! For supper, Nancy and Ken, who have a park model and live here permanently, invited all of us to their place for burgers. Saves me having to think about it. Thank you so much! 💕

Ken picked us up in their golf cart at 5:45 and we had a wonderful meal. Burgers, fried chicken, beans, macaroni and cheesecake for dessert. Oh my! I didn't have anything to contribute since we hadn't shopped after crossing the border but Nancy would have had none of that anyway. Good hearts, they are.

Ken, Rick, Amy, Nancy
It was a fun evening!

After a fun couple of hours, Ken returned us to our Suite. Gibbs stayed home where he would be able to sleep, something he hasn't done much since we 'landed'. Also, Bill and I could relax more. They have 2 dogs, Gizmo and Rocky, so who knows how that would play out.

                             a video I meant to

                                       include yesterday

We were tired after today's drive and relaxed for the remainder of the night. It was a great day. We are sitting at 83F/27C at 4:00. Oh, we didn't even notice the time change when entering Arizona, so gained another hour. Lol. Here is a bit of our drive today.

Thank you for joining us on our travels. Your comments are always welcome.

  1. Gibbs feels your stress from all of it. Tires, traffic, construction. Glad you made it safe and sound. Tucson never was fun to drive through. LOL

  2. I agree with Nancy, I think animals feel human stress and some handle it better than others, just like adults.
It is always nice to meet up with friends and get caught up. It looks like a beautiful park.
    Enjoy your visits.

  4. Glad your day went well. Couple years ago, Nick and I broke down near Eloy. Nick is an avid sky diver and there is a huge facility there. I had my first and last jump that day. Bill should try it 😀

    1. Thanks Doug. I'm so glad you did that jump! Did you go tandem or on your own? Both Bill and I would love to do tandem at Eloy. We've stopped and watched them.

  7. I laughed when I saw the picture of Picacho Peak . We go to Sahaurita for a week each December and I take a pic coming and going; I now have about a dozen. Hope you have smooth sailing until you land in Quartzsite. Patti

  8. Sounds like a good day (despite the traffic in Tuscon), and always nice to end it with a good meal with friends. I had to look to see where Eloy is located.
Enjoy your stay and safe travels.
