Sikeston, MO
On Sunday, Oct. 19th we woke up at 6:30 in darkness. Not even the clock was displaying a time on the ceiling. Woops! Our batteries were dead.

Good morning! Well, at least it looked promising!
Bill was up at 5 and I was awake at 6 and all was well. I guess we should have run the generator last night for a while before bed. The cloudy rainy evening didn't do anything for our panels after we arrived.

A pretty drive, despite
the rain showers that started out on
our trip today.
Top picture is the rest area.
Bill took Gibbs out and then turn the generator on to run until we were ready to head out. We had breakfast and it was about 8:30 in light rain that we pulled out of the casino parking lot. It was obviously very cloudy making the morning still seem dark.

I'm going to blame the rain and
the bumpy road for this blurry mess!
Two Solitudes from Ontario also
headed for Arizona.
Coincidences!
I mentioned Bill's Mudflap app so we are trying to make use of it as much as possible. Today, we first stopped at a Rest Area near Plainfield, IN for a nature break and carried on to Brazil, IN and stopped at a Speedway to fuel up. Funny, that there were two Grand Design Solitudes from Ontario doing the same thing beside us.

And our good little boy came along
today.
Yes, Maebeme, I believe he needs a bigger
bed!
He's quite happy though.
We crossed into Illinois at 10:15 and by then the rain had pretty much stopped. We gained an hour with the time zone change at 11:30 so that delayed our stop for lunch for another hour. We don't always go by the clock but rather by the tummy grumbling and stopping availability.

A few familiar sights and
look at that favourable sky!
Once arriving in Farina, we pulled into a BP station for lunch. We didn't need fuel but nature was calling and it was not clear where the next Rest Stop was. My new gps does not give me those details. We had our egg sandwiches and cheese before pulling back onto I-57S.
By now, the day was heating up and when we entered Missouri, crossing the mighty Mississippi, it was 2:15 pm and 68F/18C. Trying another new destination after some debate, we drove to Sikeston, MO and pulled into Lambert's Cafe lot.

Both in red today, totally
by accident.
It was very full, as we expected from reviews and recommendations. We'd done our research and just behind the restaurant is JT's RV Park. After a self-check-in, we found a spot not too far in. They are full service, which is a treat.

The Mississippi River crossing
This means we can get fully charged up, get showers using their water and go to supper at Lambert's Cafe - the home of the 'throwed rolls'! Thanks again to Ken and Kim for the suggestion, it worked out great for us. It was 3 pm by the time we parked.

Bill paid at the kiosk for the rv park.
A little pricey but totally worth it for us.
We were ready to stop.
Bill unhooked and got us set up with water and hydro/electric before driving downtown for fuel. Another Mudflap deal at BreakTime paying $3.04/gal, saving over $9. When Black Beauty is thirsty, every $1 helps!

I've seen a lot of busy, and fully decorated
restaurants but this one takes the ....rolls for me!
What fun! I couldn't stop smiling.
Okay, let's talk Lambert's. We walked across the lot to the restaurant. I've never seen a place so filled with people - ever! Not even Cracker Barrel, where I usually think is crazy busy. This was a real hoot with many charming young waiters, mostly men, with cute hair styles and pleasing smiles.

So much food plus the pass arounds and rolls.
We both tried fried okra (tasty) and I tried
the turnip greens. (too peppery for my liking)
The rolls..........were amazing!
We ordered, we ate, we laughed, we even taste-tested a couple of things from the pass arounds. Pass arounds are sides that they bring throughout your whole eating experience, free. Fried okra, macaroni & tomatoes, fried potatoes and onion, black-eye peas, molasses, and apple butter for your rolls. Oh my.
It's a short video, but youget the picture! He could throw them
from the front wall to the back, great shot!
Don't forget the hot rolls, fresh out of the oven that are tossed at you if you hold your arms up in the air.

Time for a picture
So, we're glad we came and this time we BOTH brought a doggy bag home.

Just in time to see the sun set when we walked back to the Suite.
It's a lovely evening, calm now that the winds have died. We are sitting at 67F/19C at 7:30. What a great day!

After we got back, Gibbs asked
to go for a 'sniffing' walk.
Lots of pee mail out there.
Good night!
Thank you for stopping by.

We ate there back a few years ago and the same thing we came out stuffed!! Safe travels🇨🇦
ReplyDeleteThank you, a fun place!
DeleteFabulous place, I didn't realize they were in the west too. I have only seen them east of the Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteFor rest areas, truck stops, etc you can try Allstays, they have different categories.
Safe travels.
Deb
Thanks Deb.
DeleteYou're moving right along! The day turned out nice and dinner looks great! Both of them!
ReplyDeleteGibbs looks more alert today ~ too cute! Looks like a nice park :)
The weather has been quite nice for travel after a bit of rain.
DeleteGibbs seems to be understanding our routine now.
Always packed due to the great food, but worth the experience. Nice you found a park close by. Continued safe travels. Gibbs looks like he's doing better this year.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely and can't complain about the price either.
DeleteWhat a fun restaurant!
ReplyDeleteIt really was!
DeleteWish we had a Lamberts close to Mi. Sounds like a fun place to eat and visit. And leftovers for lunch today.
ReplyDeleteSue
I'm so glad it was recommended to us!
DeleteWhat a fun restaurant! At my brother's first wedding, a good family friend stood up and there a bun down the table when someone asked for them to pass one. I was 11 and still remember it clearly.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!
It was! The young man had a great arm too!
DeleteWhat a great place to have your supper. We sometimes toss buns to each other here, but it is not as far as that young man was tossing.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
