Day Off for All of Us!

The Ridge

On Friday, June 12th, here we go again with the month zipping by. Almost the Ides again. A fresh breeze was coming in my window when I woke up but wow, I slept well and don't think even a dream had me waking up at any point.

Good morning!
Dull and windy
but mild.

Bill says I sleep really soundly and I'm not even wearing earplugs anymore! I have them close by in case there is some snoring from other corners of the bed but that is very rare these days. 😴 Bill got a call last night from Billy, his co-worker/foreman, that he wasn't needed today. Cool!

Last night, our performer
sits backwards in my chair.
Waiting for a reaction, obviously.
What a goof.

Well, that didn't mean 'no work' for him, but it meant that the work he could do was at home and without pay. You can't pay yourself, right? He changed the oil on our Cub Cadet, not the easiest task but saved us about $250, then he cut grass.

Here they are, my beautiful
bouquet of irises.

I've been watching my
Moonflowers. No blooms yet,
but today, I saw 3 expectant moms!

With that done, he hoisted the mower up in the shed and removed the very dull/chipped blades.

Look at this blade!
The left side is the cutting side,
but they definitely need changing.

Roberts Machinery in Mount Forest called just as he finished to let him know they had his replacement ones available for pick up. Perfect timing so he went right over to get them and re-install them.

To Bill, it was nothing,
but when I saw him hoist our C.C.
up in the shed, I was duly impressed!

He dozed and I started a new puzzle. This one is 1000 pieces, bought at Robin's sale for $2. Last people signed it as complete in January/'26. Elvis is one of my fav's so I will enjoy this one too. At least I know there won't be any pieces missing. 😀

Should be a nice puzzle to do.

I worked away and completed the border and thought it fitting to send a picture to my sister, Cathy. Big Elvis fan. 💘 I know my Buddy is too but doesn't do many puzzles. Cathy will want this one when I'm done. I joined Bill and Gibbs inside at 4:30.

I had to open my table up all
the way for it to fit w/the
1000 pieces.

We got changed for Catch the Ace and made sure to be at the Curling club for 5 pm. There were only 5 of us counting tickets/money for the next 2 weeks so I didn't know how it would go. Usually, 8 or 9 of us do this job. Surprisingly, it went really well. Each couple took a week and addressed the tickets.

Gibbs was playful when we came
outside so I brought out one of the balls
'Aunt Donna' gave him.
He played for a long time.

Can you say 'Happy Puppy'?

Another week of someone else winning the $427. but the Ace of Spades is still hidden. Yay! Better luck next time. We said our goodbyes and were home by 7 ish. It has warmed up since we left and there is more sun now than I've seen all day. It was a quick supper of grilled cheese sandwiches.

5 of us worked the tickets at the
table on the right.
You can see Bill and our treasurer, Keith.
After 6, any interested people, mostly Lions,
join for the draw.

Bill went to the Hangar and I worked on my blog before finding something on tv. We finished the Ballard season last night so maybe I'll start over with Jack Ryan. I look forward to the new seasons of all of the ones we've watched. There are a lot of choices so certainly will not get bored.

Quite a different sky than
when we left 2 hours earlier.

We reached a cooler 22C/72F, at least feeling cooler with the clouds and winds. The humidity broke today and it was minimal at 58%, much nicer. I did get more weeding done in a couple of small gardens. I finished one quilling project and started another. Pictures to follow.

Supper was filling
and so we skipped dessert.

We'll be up and down in temperatures over the next week so we aren't into summer - yet! Indulge me with one more short video of my favourite pooch.

                                   Good night!

Thank you for the visit on this nice Friday.

The Heat is On

The Ridge

It was 6:15 when I first opened my eyes on Thursday, June 11th. Bill and Gibbs were just back inside from Gibbs' first outing. At some point early morning, I had closed my window. I opened it when we went to bed last night. A nice breeze was filtering in. I close the daytime shades which just lets enough through.

Good morning!
Where Baptist Church Rd. meets Grey Rd. #4

Bill was up and ready to leave as I got up and made the bed. I had my cleaning job this morning so, since it was 7ish, I got washed and dressed as well. I made my to-go tea and was out the door by 7:15. Black Beauty was waiting to take me to town.

The drive into town at 7:30

I was alone today, sometimes that is really nice. The quiet. I was in and out within the hour, signed the book and headed to Impact Tire for our C the A tickets. Had to pick a new number for Bill since his was chosen last week. Thankfully, since not his name, not the Ace of Spades!

The small garden in the Corral
I feel better that this is done now.

I asked Robin yesterday if she had any canopy tents for sale and she thought she had one in the rafters of their shed. Unfortunately, it was a camp cot instead so I'm back to square one. I appreciate the input of a couple of commenters about whether it is worth my trouble when Robin's weekend job is sure $$. Still torn but I do appreciate you!

The big Corral garden.
The bane of my existence.
Once the primrose bloom, I will
move what I want and let it go
wild. I tried and failed.
It's a steep hill and slippery with rock.

Back home, Gibbs and I went outside after the grass dried. We did have a heavy-ish rain shower while I was in town cleaning but it seemed to be done. I decided it was a good day to tackle the small corral flower garden.

Gibbs watches a large hole
that we believe Chippy keeps
digging up. We try and fill it
with rocks.

I managed to get it done and looked at the big one. Nope, not happening. I still have to rake up the weeds I pulled out but I was feeling sweaty, itchy and buggy so it didn't happen today. Chippy must have been teasing Gibbs as I heard logs fall from the wood pile.

I don't know if Gibbs jumped up or what, but he hid under the picnic table when I exclaimed 'oh no!' I have my glass vase decor at the end of the wood pile and it was knocked over. I guess I need to move that. I straightened the wood as much as I could without removing too many and came inside.

Bill texted and Gibbs knows the
sound so ran to the door.

I debated closing windows and turning the a/c on with the forecast calling for 28C/82.4F but a breeze came up, with more clouds so I let them stay open. Later, of course, I regretted that decision and followed suit. It is quite muggy. Hopefully that will change by Saturday. 🤞

Gibbs and I sat in my chair together and not only did he fall asleep, but I had to close my Janet Evanovich book (!!!) because I did too! Unusual. Last night's late night and today's early wake up must be the culprit. 🤭

I pushed myself awake around 2:15 and we walked to retrieve the mail. Bill's Princess Auto flyer was worth walking down for - in his mind. When I came back, I had a handful of daisies, buttercups and corabells so put them in the best vase I could find quickly. A thermos from the cupboard.

With fresh strawberries in the fridge, I washed and cut them for dessert. Then I made whipped cream..and got a brain wave to make strawberry shortcake! I cheat and use Bisquick but then I realized I have no oven! LOL Google - help!

Frying shortcake biscuits?
Yup, I learned something new!

She did and suggested pan frying them. I've never done that before but my electric frypan did a great job! I must remember that. I think I'm doing okay getting innovative with cooking. Mind you, they aren't very intensive but let me pat myself on the back anyway. 😀

Bill and Gibbs have their
afternoon snooze.

Bill was home just before 4 totally surprising us. We were inside with the a/c running and radio playing. Never heard a thing until he opened the door. Scared me half to death and surprised our guard dog completely. We laughed about that, he usually hears him before he gets to the laneway.

So, supper is fried (either pan or air fryer), chicken thighs. Bill cleaned up the baked beans and I'll have mixed vegetables. He might want a potato so I'll do one for him. Because we had dessert, he opted out of the potato I offered. Delicious! I've never fried my chicken before.

Turned into a good meal.
After a big one last night,
this was perfect.

The strawberry shortcake was also quite yummy. The biscuits turned out great and we have enough for another night or two. We cleaned up the fry pan by hand and Bill made his lunch. Gibbs watched, faking that he was sleeping. The eyebrows kept lifting from his position in the chair. He's waiting for his cheese.

'Tis the season

It was a great day. By suppertime, the outside air had dropped almost 10 degrees so we were able to open windows again. It will be nice for sleeping and the rain isn't to start until 4 am. Tomorrow looks like a nice day so I'll clean up my weeds.

This is from a few years ago
but needed to fill in the gap.
Good night!

Thank you for popping in. I love your comments and respond to each one.

A Quiet Day at Home, Lion's meeting

 The Ridge

On Wednesday, June 10th Bill was up and busy getting ready for work when I woke up. I slept well, with my window open, but did I ever dream! At one point when I woke up, I couldn't decide what was real and what I had dreamt. Strange.

Good morning!
Gibbs and I had some cuddle time
in my dining chair after Daddy left.

Gibbs and I got up before Bill left at 7 so we managed to get our goodbye kisses. As if Gibbs doesn't get enough. 🤭 It was looking like a damp day but after raining heavy overnight (according to Bill) things were just wet.

I don't lack for entertainment
up here.
Two Chippys on the pole.
Maybe this is a Cirque de Soleil
of sorts? 😂

A free day for us, we remained inside for the most part. I read blogs, played my word games and then while Gibbs slept, I finished the last 3 cd coasters. I have really been wrestling with the idea of finding markets to sell stuff.

Look again
This was a standoff until
one jumped off.
Meanwhile, the Grackle watched.

I'm so undecided, #1 on how to find places, is it going to be worth giving up work time for Robin (a guaranteed income) for, weather if I'm outside etc. etc. The store in town, Chicory Common, offers free outdoor space for vendors on Sundays. But, I have no cover from the heat, wind or rain. 🤷‍♀️

My tall irises from London
I love these.

I'm praying for guidance, what to do, what to do. No one can make the decision for me so I continue to wrestle right now and continue to create. LOL For lunch, I had my poached eggs on toast and then went back to quilling.

The plants look good.

Gibbs and I walked for the mail at 2 after I knew  she'd gone by. Usually at 1:30 but I don't count on it. The sky didn't clear all day as they thought it would but it didn't rain again either. My rain barrel and 5 gallon pails around the Suite are full! Yay! My plants on the berm are looking great.

See the full barrel?
The pails runneth over

All plants are growing and tomato plants are beginning to flower. I'm quite pleased with myself about that location, sorry, I keep saying that. I hope it pays off in the long run but I need some more cages. I see Cdn. Tire has them on sale this week.

Heavy clouds all day

Bill was home by 5 and this was a no cooking night for me. It was our last Lion's Club meeting for the summer with a catered dinner. We do pay for the meal but $11 each is nothing. Because of Father's Day on Sunday, we were asked to wear something appropriate for a father.

This mining bee (I looked it up on Google lens)
on this yellow daisy.

The daisies are weeds, I know, but
I couldn't pull them out.

I dug out one of Bill's ties, pulled up a Youtube video on how to tie it and had my outfit planned. Just a button down shirt w/collar and the tie. Done.

I shortened the tie and added
my Lion's badge.

I was pleased that many of the ladies did the same thing, mostly with ties, hats and one in overalls. 😉

A great meal for $11.

The meeting was fun tonight and the meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes, veggies and a roll was very good. It was after 8, closer to 8:30 when we returned home to our little love bug.

Headed home through
Baptist Church Rd.

Waiting for attention

Today, I heard of 2 distant family members who have lost their fur babies recently - it reminds me to appreciate Gibbs even more. This afternoon I started on another project, using a 5 x 7" canvas board. Something else to add to the pile.

A nice sunset tonight.

This was a great day. No pressures and a fun evening with my sweetie. We watched some episodes of Ballard, since we're done with the Bosch and I'm done with Murder in a Small Town. We're enjoying this series too.

                                 Good night, Gibbs!

We reached 22.22C/72F this afternoon with no sun. Thank you for stopping by.

More Rain Expected and Another Birthday

The Ridge

On Tuesday, June 9th we were both up for jobs first thing. Bill at his usual time, leaving the Ridge at 7 am for Listowel. I made my tea and headed out at 7:15. Gibbs remained home, in charge of the Suite. "Just give me my treat and go", is what I read in his look. Such a good little boy.

Good morning!
Last night under the awning.

One of my favourite customers was sitting in a chair at the front waiting for his washer to finish. I used to be really good at remembering names but I can't even recall if I've asked his name. He is the little man who reminds me so much of Daddy. Not so much his chatter but his peacefulness and smile.

Driving out the lane.
A stop for the sun and pond.

I have been finding a dime (.10¢) every day I've been in since I got home. Nice to know he is watching over me. 💕 Another customer came in and did her laundry as well. I found the Lost & Found box full again.

At the corner,
the sun sits atop a tree.

Indication that it was time to take care of it. It has been slowly building. I tossed everything in a washer (including a fitted sheet and a flannel top sheet) and while I washed the floors, sorted and dried the clothes before I left. Some items went in the 'drop off' bag and the rest went into the 'exchange' bag here in the Bunky.

Clouds blanketed the sky
everywhere we looked.

It is a hot, humid day so when I got back home, I closed windows and turned the a/c on. I am so grateful that I got out yesterday and did the weeding, today would not be a good day for it. I did slip out with Gibbs long enough to move some of the 'new' garlic plants from Donna into another pot.

Think of the funniest thing you've
seen. Shows just how small they
can make themselves!

                          Volume up, if u want

I don't eat that much garlic but it will be nice to have some available - if I can ever get it to take off! The first ones she gave me don't seem to like the rocky ground up there on the berm, but we'll see. Now that we'll be getting rains for a few days, I might see a change.

Looking next door, I could see
our new garbage bins are coming.
We didn't get a recycle bin so I
was curious about this one.

Inside we came and I quilled more of the coasters. Time for show and tell! What do you think? Yay or nay? I debated stringing some nice twine through the hole for hanging but doubt they would hang straight, defeating the purpose. They can't go outside, well, because it is paper. 🤷‍♀️

7 finished
I'm not liking the red and black one

I got out my sewing machine to see about doing something with that skirt but decided to just keep some of the material for now. Maybe I'll come up with something. I took the elastic out of the short top that matched, maybe I'll wear that now. Another 'shrug'. I did stitch a pair of Bill's shorts that needed mending.

3 prepped for designs
🤔

Looking out the window towards Dot's while quilling, I saw a Ryder rental truck at her place. They were dropping off a new green garbage bin. We heard about this transition Friday night from a chat with Kevin, our Mayor. We'll save on garbage tags but have a bunch paid for that won't be used.

Surprise, surprise! We got one!

Gibbs and I walked down to bring it
in from the road. They sit behind our
gate fence.

Bill was home by 3:45, they had gone as far as they could today. He changed and proceeded to have his snooze with Gibbs.

The Suite on the Ridge

For supper, it will be a 'made up' meal, involving meatballs, mac & cheese, beans.........he'll enjoy it and I'm sure I will too. 🤭 It's a fast, maybe not so healthy meal.

So, Chippy pretty much finished off
one bird feeder of seed - so I moved it.
Now he thinks grape jam will be his
new meal.
Calesthetics? No problem!
I moved this one too.

Madame IP did a good job and Google helped with suggestions for the meatballs and mac/cheese in one pot. Worked perfectly. I heated the beans separately on the stove. (and I ate too much)

Tasty but filling.

We cleaned up, Bill made his lunch and relaxed for the evening. We reached 26.66C/80F again but with 79% humidity, it felt sticky.

Mr. & Mrs. Goldfinch
hanging together.

No rain yet, although they said after 5 pm, storms moving in. The sky looks cloudy but not threatening in any way. Yet. This was a good day. We didn't get outside much at all today, it was quite warm.

Inside, we enjoyed the coolness and just after supper, we opened windows since it was cooler outside than in. Below, I went out to shoo Chippy off the grape jam. It was a staring contest. Ever looked directly into the eyes of a little imp?

Today, is my step-daughter, Charlotte's birthday. So I made sure to pop her a greeting. I know Bill called her this morning.

Happy Birthday, Charlotte!
Good night y'all!

Thank you for popping by.
