Gibbs Visits the Doctor, Beautiful Day

The Ridge

On Friday, May 31st not only did we wake up to lovely morning, with clear blue skies that lasted ALL day, but we also were saying goodbye to one of the strangest months for weather yet. Well, in my opinion anyway. I can’t recall if I heard Bill’s alarm but I know I slept well until 6:30 when I first rolled over. Puppy kisses right on my mouth told me someone was waiting.

Good morning!
Actually, this is lunch.
It was such a tasty little treat!
Love melted cheddar with tomato

I slipped into lounging clothes to come downstairs. I didn’t have to be anywhere too early today. Bill made my tea and he was off for his last day of the week – and month. 😊 It was a chilly enough morning, 8C/47F, but at least not cold enough for any frost. I did cover my plants last night as a precaution. Gibbs and I went out around 8:30 to uncover them and of course, he was tentative as he approached the big sheet monster. Some protector he is!

The traumatic part of Gibbs' day
Here he is watching the door for the
assistant to come back.

I left the house at 9:50 to pick M up and take him in for his errands. Back home by 11, I popped up the screen tent as we weren’t expecting any high winds for a day or two. I did a bit of crocheting after lunch, of which was 2 little cheese, tomato and lettuce sandwiches on my keto rolls. It was good and with some almonds and cashews, it filled me. I wanted to do a bit more grass cutting to save Bill some time, he usually does the hill along the corral, but Gibbs and I had an appointment at 2 so best wait.

Her bribe of treats, wasn't winning him over either. 💗

Nervous Nelly got in the truck with no hesitation, got seat-belted in and immediately began the whining. It has to be nerves/anxiety/excitement. He wasn’t terrible the whole way with fresh air blowing in his face and the vet was ready for him as soon as we walked in. Thankfully, we were allowed inside the building this time! His assistant did all the prep work before the vet came in. I was only off by .2 lbs. on his weight. Little chunk.

So, I cut this part of our grass today.
It doesn't look like much of a hill but trust me,
it is for me!

He wasn’t too pleased with the rectal thermometer (who would be?) nor the deep ear exam and when it came to the blood drawing for heart worm, just get outta here! She was very good but we still had to restrain him while she wrapped a bandaid around his leg. If he hadn’t moved, it wouldn’t have bled. Poor soul. It wasn’t painful for me until she gave me the bill and I though my heart would stop. Oh well, good thing we love our Gibbs!

Our little boy with a pink bandage
sits in the shade with Mom.

He was quiet the whole way home and relaxed on my chair inside the Suite. The vet's assistant suggested we try Gravol and gave me some treatment options. I went out to get the mower ready and cut the grass on the hill. That darned near killed me too! Ha ha, I’m not good at pushing a mower uphill but it sure looks good and saves my sweetie a bit of time. Gibbs and I sat in the tent until Bill got home around 4:15 and then outside in the sun while he cut the berm and corral. Now it is all done and we can relax for the remainder of the weekend. 😊

Waiting while Daddy cuts grass.
Doesn't he look nice and cool?
He had a big day.

For supper, I baked fish and we deep fried the chips. Only enough for Bill, we’re cleaning up the fish and I had broccoli instead. It’s tempting though, they do look good, maybe just one. Everything was good and after clean up, Bill will go to the Hangar and after my blog, I’ll sit with Gibbs with my crocheting. The tv will be on for entertainment and I’ll watch another couple of Rookie Blue episodes. It is quite good.

Yup, one french fry was all I needed. 😂

This has been a really nice day. We reached a high of 23C/73F, with a warmer day tomorrow. Things got done, Gibbs has all his medicines for heart worm, flea and tick preventative. He doesn’t have an ear infection but we did get drops for shat looks like dryness in the canal. It sure hasn’t affected his hearing, he can hear a pin drop. 😊

Wow! On May 31st, 2019
Bill and the boys had just finished building his
Hangar!
It looks so small here.
Good night!

Thank you for checking in on us. It has been a great week!

If I Say it, You Won’t Believe It! (sorry, it’s a novella today!)

The Ridge

On Thursday, May 30th it is, again, hard to imagine that the end of the month is literally just around the corner! I wonder if time goes as quickly for younger folk? I remember as a teen, days dragged on forever, even summer seemed slow. 😊 We woke up to clear skies but a cool morning. Unknown to me, Bill forgot to set his alarm last night, so when I woke up at 6:15 and he was still sound asleep, I was surprised and gently woke him.

Good morning!
I had to start with this pix from last night.
Gibbs went out to piddle and  barked like
crazy at my plant covering. He's closer here
but he was standing 8' feet away. 😂
Yup, he's afraid of many unknowns.

Before coming downstairs, I got washed, dressed and stripped the bed sheets and duvet cover. With the forecast as good as it would be, I had the perfect day to hang things on the line. I also had two sets of Robin’s sheets that I had to bring home to dry, the used towels that I washed at the bnb filled the dryer. I left the Suite at 7:15 and began work and laundry at 7:30. The patchy frost did not hit us up here on the Ridge so that’s good. I uncovered my plants before I drove out.

An early lunch before cutting grass

The Mat was empty of customers so I busied myself with the routine, leaving there at 8:45. I texted Sandy about a washer in need of repair and my total number of hours worked for May. I drove to Foodland first to pick up bread and yogourt that was on sale and then further down main street to the Water Store where I filled our 5-gallon bottle.

I'd pulled the ground pegs out and when I
tried to move the tent to where I'd cut,
the wind caught it and laid it down.
Safely. That's where it will stay tonight.

No more stops until I got to Robin’s where I nipped in to drop off the cleaned sheets. Jessica, the other cleaner, will take them on Saturday after Friday’s guests leave. I chatted with Robin, her and Andrew were busy splitting logs into fire wood for their wood stove, and I took the time to pet little Mildred. That’s a time-consuming job. He split with the machine and she loaded the wheelbarrow and carted it over to the pile. 😉

I hope you can see him,
Two Jack in the Pulpits.
The one on the right is in front of our
biggest hosta. It's beautiful in its immenseness.

Back home, I made a phone call to Costco. I realized this morning that our EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) was not in yesterday’s delivery. They don’t send any paperwork so Bill checked online this morning to see if there was a note on his order. Nope, hence the call. I received satisfaction, so far, as the fellow who answered said they’d ship it out right away, no extra charges. Good thing! 😊 It was the oil that we needed more than the other times, of course.

Speaking of size. Our peony bush did not disappoint
this spring. Look at the size of these blooms! Sadly,
they don't last long.

The grass needs cutting so I had lunch just after 11:30, the last of my pancake mix from the fridge (yum), and then Gibbs and I went out. He kept Chippy out of my way, running around like a little fool (both of them!) so he was very helpful. My mower battery lasts just about, or shy of, an hour but I managed to get my area done before it died. I removed the battery, plugged it in and put the mower away.

It felt so good to be out, sun or shade,
with no critters to bother me!

I could do more tomorrow to save Bill some cutting on the big mower, it is supposed to be another nice day. It is only 15C/61F but feels cooler when the wind is at its peak and warmer when it dies off. A great day for working around outside. My title may have you wondering so I’ll tell you what you may not believe. After I finished cutting, Gibbs and I stretched out in my gravity chair enjoying the sun AND there was not a bug, mosquito or black fly to be seen!! ♥♥♥ Yay!

a visitor while we sat outside

I hope I didn’t just jinx it but I sure relished the ability to sit without the pests. 😊 Gibbs took turns sitting on my lap (even though I was trying to get some colour on my ‘muffin top’ belly) and in the shade so whenever he came to me, I enjoyed his snuggles for a while. I took a video of me cutting the grass, just because I DO work around here even if Bill is the only one in pictures, and Gibbs had me laughing when he perched himself right in front of my phone that was propped on the picnic table. He was trying to tell me something, I suppose.

The fresh air tires him out.
Sound asleep, rare when I move for his
eyes not to pop open.

I’d decided the other day to try and piece together the orange/blue Adirondack chairs up on the berm – not for sitting in – just for appearance. They are in rough shape and still missing one arm but they look a bit better now. When I finished that, I dragged my plant bags a bit to move them into the afternoon sun. I guess my first thought didn’t pan out, they need more sun than what the morning can give them. They look healthy, so I’m pleased and hopeful.

Our rain barrel is full so with water
from our drain pails, I primed the pump.
I was so excited when I was able to fill the watering cans
but after watering the veggies, it lost its prime again. 😕

We brought the sheets, chair covers and blankets in off the line, I did the unpegging and folding, Gibbs secured the area. 😊 After making the bed, we walked down to check the mailbox. Gibbs seems to know now what those words mean and doesn’t hesitate when I start out. He’s right beside me unless he smells something interesting along the way.

b
Gibbs sat with me while Bill cut grass.
He wasn't watching Daddy though. He was watching Chippy
under the bird feeders. He could hear the mower out at
the road so was quite content.

Bill was home earlier, 4:30, and began cutting grass. Supper was planned and when he was ready, I’d start the process. Today, I located a lot of the rocks I painted over the winter and placed them near plants around the Ridge. They are some of my favourites so I like to keep them, plus it helps Bill to know where some bulbs are planted etc. We had Brats and a vegetable for supper. Bill had the last of the fried potatoes and finished off the rhubarb crisp for dessert.

Brats and squash.
Yummy.

One more day and he gets a break from that job and can enjoy his weekend. Both Robin and Sandy have paid me/us for our work, which is nice that our ‘bosses’ are prompt. 😊 This has been a really nice day. Tonight, will be the last cool night, and then we’re on the home stretch – again. We take it as it comes and it is always a topic of conversation. LOL

From a distance, the chairs look fine.
Just don't sit in them!
These were a roadside find a few years ago.

I’ve been watching Rookie Blue on Prime Video at night, now that Tracker is done, and although an older series, I’m enjoying it. Andy (character name) aka Missy Peregrym, is on the newer FBI series and I like her much better in RB, she’s more personable. I can watch it while adding to my slippers. What a farce that was, I hope I’m on the right track again. I hope you’ve had nice weather too – I don’t mean you Arizona folks – in your neck of the woods.

Good night!

Thank you for stopping around. Your comments are always welcome.

Definitely Jacket Weather

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 29th we woke to clouds and the look of rain showers. Good grief! Today is to be the coolest day and overnight but then (do ya think?) we will be beginning the climb to warm temperatures again. Warmer, at least. 😊 Phew! What a roller coaster ride the weather has been.

Good morning!
This is NOT our sunset from last night
but it is from my friend, Sheila.
She is at Quartzsite, Arizona and was kind
enough to share. 💓

I came downstairs to join Bill by 7 but I felt like I could have just stayed in bed and perhaps dropped off again. He was doing our banking since the government pensions went in the account. Hopefully, this will be an easier month for the finances. Bill left at 7:30 and I finished my tea with Gibbs and Moo Cow sitting at my side in ‘our’ recliner.

It gives me a challenge,
crocheting with Gibbs.
He lets me know when it is time to pay
attention to him.
I have a correction to yesterday's post.
Gibbs was 27 lbs. last summer but is now
29.8 lbs!! After his hair cut. 😍

I know I post a lot of pictures of the little chunk, but he brings me/us such joy that I love capturing his moments. I did a couple of things on my laptop and before I knew it, it was time to head over to M’s. He asked if I could run him into town for some errands. I haven’t heard from him since Thursday, which was great, so I didn’t mind designating an hour of my time to help him out. He is always very appreciative.

While in town, I filled our 5-gallon gas can for the riding mower so Bill can cut some grass tonight. Back home, I began my search for slippers again, I can’t figure out my own written pattern – duh – so Googled a search to find one online. Soon enough, it was lunch time so I ate and then went back to it. Okay, don’t laugh but I figured it out. I was reading the back page of the beanies I made last fall……..once I realized that (duh!) I was good to go again. Phew! 😊 (ok, you can laugh)

Our large Costco box arrived by UPS
today.
It's huge but it did have 5 large items in it and
saved us an hour and a half drive.

The sky cleared out while we were in town, so when I returned home, I popped my screen tent back up. The winds will be minimal over the next few days and hopefully the rain as well. It is cool though, only a high of 15C with a breeze. Gibbs ran around outside, stretching his legs and when we came in, he sat beside me with his buddy. Moo Cow has lost even more weight, as is evident by the fab full of stuffing. I doubt it will be long before her head becomes separated from his body like Goobers.

Well, here she is.
Moo Cow minus a few pounds and a squeaker.
She is well loved.

I had to leave Gibbs a second time today, at 4, to go meet Bill at the bnb in Williamsford. I didn’t see Robin and Andrew’s car in the lane so if they made it home last night, they are already on the run. She sent me pictures of the air bnb in Newfoundland that they are working on, soon to be done, and I am awed by what they accomplish in a short period of time. Their style is apparent throughout, yet keeping with the province’s ‘theme’ of homes. 😊

Bill working outside while
I worked inside.
A fair trade except he worked all day too.

This Purple Smoke Tree reminded me of
the one we had in London. They're pretty.

I cleaned while Bill cut the grass and within 2-hours we traded vehicles and were each driving home. Robin will be home for a couple of months so she will be looking after the grass and maybe some of the cleaning.  I like the job and the pay so I hope she needs me for part of the time. Bill had his shower while I started supper. Because it was after 6:30, we’d decided on toasted bacon, cheese and tomato sandwiches.

Driving home - yup, I'd follow him anywhere.
💘💘💘

I jumped off the keto wagon and had mine on sour dough bread (which is so good toasted!) and added lettuce. Bill made his lunch, we did dishes and he went to the Hangar around 8.

A tasty little sandwich.

I worked on my blog and spent some time crocheting with my little snuggle bum. We heard that it will be dropping to +2C/35F overnight so I covered my vegetables with a sheet. It will be the last one, we hope! I have a feeling it could be a short night, unless I find something on tv to watch until 10. It has been a good day and before it ended, I texted Robin with an update on Bill’s hours etc.

And finally, I had a mention on FB from another friend at the Arizona park...........they are working on a 2000-pc. puzzle and need me back STAT. Ha ha, cute, although they seem to be doing just fine without me! 😂

What a great challenge, ladies!
Good night!

Thank you for the visit.

A Ful-Filling Day

The Ridge

On Tuesday, may 28th we were all up before 7. Bill was getting ready for work when I came downstairs. He made my tea and we exchanged places in the bathroom. Me out and him in. 😉 I was ready before him so said my goodbyes and left for town in Ptooties at 7:15 arriving at the Mat at 7:30. The place was quiet but messy. Oh my! People that can’t pick up after themselves!

Good morning!
this was my first picture of the day.
With Moo Cow in his mouth, her horns
are perfectly placed around Gibbs' nose.
What a character!

I walked around cleaning up dryer sheets, Kleenexes, and the remnants of a blue blanket of some kind. LOL I took the broom and did a sweep before I started my routine. Yes, talking to myself the whole time – grumbling is more like it – “People!” Oh well, it’s a job and it was so dirty as it was ‘messy’ as I said above. One of the machines was quite dirty so I just ran it through a cycle to clean it out.

I have no words...........
I used them all up while I was cleaning this mess up.

I was on my way home, after dropping a book around the corner at the ‘Little Box Library’, by 8:30. On my return, I stopped and emptied Robin’s mailbox, they get a lot of real mail. It was a cloudy morning with heavy clouds hanging all around but by the time I drove home, fog had rolled in again. Strange weather but I guess to be expected with the highs, then lows, rain, then more highs and lows.

That's a few days in a row of this fog
that appears after sunrise for a short while.

I had some steel cut oatmeal for breakfast and then I hung around with Gibbs for the rest of the morning. I tried to follow a pattern, I’d followed before, for slippers and gave up, frustrated. I need bigger crochet hooks since I’ve lost all of mine somewhere. I packed a small baggie with low carb crisps, almonds and cashews and left Gibbs in charge at 12:10. I drove to town to meet Donna. She had a follow-up appointment in Owen Sound and asked me to go along. 😊

Some day's it is hard to leave this
💓 stealer behind.

I weighed him today

We should change his name to Chunk.
27.8 pounds! 😂

The sky was clearing out a bit but it was still a tad on the cool side. We each took a jacket. Her appointment was for 1:40 and although she was late getting in, we were together waiting and in with the doctor and his assistant. We met with our other sister, Gayle, after her eye appointment and it seems like we left, separately from her and John, within minutes of each other. Donna and I drove to Walmart where I picked up a few items, including bird seed, and then to the Mission Store.

Some strange heavy clouds when we
entered Walmart

I found 3 things there that I couldn’t live without, one being the perfect size table cloth for our newly refinished dining table. A steal at $1.25. 😊

it fits the well-used part of our
rv table perfectly.

Donna and I said goodbye in Durham where I left Ptooties and I drove home, just minutes (5) ahead of Bill. He’d stopped on his way home with Black Beauty to get a bladder of water for the Suite. He enjoyed driving BB as much as I enjoyed having my SUV.

Waiting for Daddy to come in for supper.

We had supper of pork kabobs, fried potatoes for Bill and a vegetable for each. The kabobs were okay, air fried but we agreed not to buy them again. After the next meal with them, they will be all gone. Neither of us were keen on the flavour.

Supper was okay tonight.
It filled us. 😄

Bill made his egg salad sandwich for lunch and then sat to reconcile our bank statement. It was a good day, although on the cool side, only 15C/60F and a cooler one tomorrow.

There might be a pretty sunset tonight.
I'm too tired to wait for it so you may
see it in the morning!
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

Inside Day – We’re Used to This!

The Ridge

On Monday, May 27th I was awake when Bill’s alarm went off. He’d been sound asleep and, as usual, I feel bad when he gets woken. His sleep is often interrupted on its own so when he sleeps, I let to let sleeping Bill lie. I rolled over and dozed off until 7 when I joined him downstairs. He made my tea and we chatted until he had to leave at 7:30. What a miserable day!

Good morning!
Bright and green and wet.

It’s not cold, really, just damp and everything is very wet from overnight rain. It is as we expected, so not surprised at all. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same. I’ll need to fill bird feeders today, hmmm, I think the bucket is almost empty. Darn! I should have picked some up in Hanover. I was really lazy all morning, playing my games, reading and dozing in my recliner. At 11, I had to talk myself into the shower I’d planned for today!

Gibbs had no interest in watching Mom purge
clothes

The rain is off and on so not a wash out at all but Gibbs still doesn’t waste any time when he goes out. The sky looks pretty ominous and he doesn’t want to get rained on! After my shower, I purged a few more things from my closet and drawers as Donna’s clothing exchange is on Saturday. I hope she has a good turnout, it is a great way to switch up a wardrobe plus get clothes out and off to a donation centre after the fact. 😊

The black clouds were worse off to the north

I made a batch (7 servings) of steel cut oats for breakfasts over the coming week and that was kind of my lunch. I did have some cashews, cheese and a keto butter tart. The scales were being kind to me this morning, although neither Bill or I put much faith in them. Wow! It is 1:10 and the sun and blue sky has just appeared from the west. Thank you to whoever is sending it this way! We should be able to get for a bit after all.

It was moving quickly and all
we got were spits here and there until
supper time.

I did finish my book yesterday; The Island House was a good read. There is that box of mysteries in the Bunky, so since the rain took a break, we went out and I brought in three James Patterson books. 😊 I had Madame IP boil 3 eggs for egg salad sandwiches for Bill. That will be nice for a change and now it means to add that grocery item on my new list. Gibbs and I walked down to get the mail, just a Canadian Tire flyer, and then came in for a cup of tea.

obviously, I wasn't outside enough to
take many pictures.

I dug out my yarn to crochet something, since we’re stuck indoors. Bill was home by 5 and the rain returned about 10 minutes before he drove up the lane. At least I don’t have to get water from our pails or rain barrel to water. Often there are bonuses if you just look for them. For supper, I baked a large chicken breast to share, boiled a couple of potatoes for Bill and a vegetable for each of us.

Supper was quite tasty
Bill had some of the rhubarb crisp for dessert.

We reached a high of 18C/65F so a couple of windows brought fresh air in. It was a quiet day, no running – anywhere! I loved that. I hope you’ve had a good day and accomplished something, even if it was just relaxing. 😊

Another one of the sweet little memes.
"Woman's best friend".
good night!

Thank you for popping in.

Bill Gets a Day Off (Kind of), Laundry, Patsy on Call

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 26th we were all up by 7, some sooner than others. 😊 I began sorting laundry and Bill came up to help. Seemed like a lot of dirty clothes this week!  Bill was planning to go flying but after seeing a sunny sky at 6:30, the fog rolled in by 7 – thick and heavy. Black, right Daddy?

Good morning, let's start with
last night's sunset.

That delayed his plans and his friend’s plan as well but I had work to do so after waiting until 7:30, I left. Dollar Store Dave was the only one in doing laundry and even then, he was folding the last of his dried clothing. I was alone for about 30 minutes so called Bill to tell him the sky was clearing in town in case he still wanted to head to the field. when 2 other customers came in. The sky was perfect, so a nice day ahead.

Do any of you remember the donut tree?
It looks quite fluffy here but still making
room for the hydro lines.

I hung the clothes and it pretty much filled the whole ‘umbrella’ but I knew with the slight breeze and sun, they would dry quickly no matter how much was hanging. 😊 I wasn’t done with my jobs today though so planned an early lunch so I could head to Williamsford and the bnb at 12:30. I would finish before 3, easily.

On duty

My lunch

Robin texted and wondered if we would be able to cut the grass there on Tuesday evening or Wednesday. Tonight’s guests are there for two nights. and if theirs at home needed it, could we take care of that before they returned home. Don’t get me wrong, she is not demanding in any way and would get along without us but when they get home this Tuesday evening, they will only have a few days to complete other things before Andrew leaves for the Yukon for 6-weeks on the job.

So, Robin has a chalkboard in the bnb
welcoming guests and the last guest
had quite the sense of humour.
We got a kick out of it, Robin and I

They are crazy busy so even though we have stuff going on as well, we did offer to help when she asked. 😊 This time. So, I left Bill to make his lunch and, on the way, I stopped at Robin’s house to pick up their 5-gallon gas can to fill it for their home riding mower. We’ll try and cut it tonight. I say ‘we’ as if I’ll be doing it but Bill does it and only Bill will get the $ from it as well.

Driving into Durham, my favourite way

The bnb was in good shape; she has lucked out with her guests. It was just after 2 when I left and stopped at the fuel station to fill the can. Ouch! Glad I’m not paying for it! Ha ha. Back home, Bill was happily working away in the Hangar and Gibbs and I left him to it. We did pop down for a visit now and again. I relaxed for the remainder of the afternoon, spent some time in the screen tent, avoiding the flies that persist on hanging around me, and some time in the Bunky painting rocks.

Gibbs even tried to paint with me.
Okay, he just wanted to sit with Mom.

Bill came up around 4:30 and helped me bring the clothes in during which we decided we should skip a big meal and go in and get Robin’s grass cut before supper. It turned out that I drove him there, it is just a handful of miles down the highway, and he sent me home. He can work quickly without having to teach me on the mower or Andrew’s whipper snipper. I couldn’t argue and came home to wait for his call to pick him up.

The winds are picking up overnight so I'd
rather be prepared than sorry.

The clouds have moved in

He was ready by 6:30 and for supper, we settled for bacon and eggs with toast – in my case, maybe a dinner roll. I did him the favour of making his sandwich for work tomorrow and put the thawed chicken breast in the fridge for Monday’s supper. 😊 Works for me! I’ll be home all day; it will feel like a holiday. I know our American friends will be celebrating a long weekend with tomorrow being Memorial Day for them. Enjoy the day!

Bacon and eggs for supper

I watched a couple of episodes of Tracker last night so may just read tonight. No plans in play yet. This has been a great day for both of us. I’m glad Bill got to have a day of pleasure and mostly leisure. We reached a pleasant high of 24C/74F and enjoyed it even though we know we’re not out of the woods for silly weather.

When Daddy got in the shower, Gibbs grabbed his socks

When no one paid him any attention.......

He decided to have a snooze. 💗
Good night y'all!

Thank you for stopping in.
