Determination Gets Things Done (sorry, a Chatty Patsy today)

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 21st I stayed in bed until quarter after 7. Bill was up with his alarm, had Gibbs out and was on his way to work just after 6:30. I was awake so he came upstairs to kiss ‘us’ goodbye.

It was a cloudy day and nothing better was expected than that so I wasn’t disappointed. The rain, which once it starts, is supposed to be a present entity up until and through Saturday morning. Thankfully, we had the morning at least to get out.

Good morning

I’ve been telling myself for days (I do that a lot!) to vacuum so while waiting for some warmth outside, I got out my Dirt Devil and took care of that business. Gibbs did his normal ‘run from that red thing’ escape plan until I wrapped up the cord and put it away. 😊

The temperature was below 10C/50F and not rising too much all day with gusty 20 mph winds on occasion. So! That being said, I had my tea and some yogourt and at 9, dressed for the weather. Just my hoody and a wind breaker did the trick.

Yesterday, after Bill got home, he took the time to check out my Weed Eater and managed to free up the pull cord. Awesome! My luck was with me for about 5 minutes and after starting it (step 1), I realized he had also done some of the areas around the lawn area that I was going to do. I didn’t even see that!

Then a fuel up, or two.

I headed up the berm behind us and didn’t get far before I ran out of string. LOL It’s been a while since I’ve replaced it so it took a few attempts to get it right. Duh! Then, after another 15 minutes or so, I ran out of gas and had to stop again. Each time, I was fearful that it wouldn’t start but luck was on my side. 😊

I wanted to do areas that Bill would do, enough to save him some time when he gets his out. His Stihl is more powerful and does thicker stuff and can do larger areas much quicker so I aimed for the areas on the berm and along the corral fence line that he can’t get with his rider.

My lunch was a poached egg
on toast with bacon and brie cheese

I was determined and even though it took 4 re-strings, either a jam or running out, and 2 gas refills, I got as far as I was going to. When the string ran out again, I stopped. That was enough for today, I knew I’d pay for it if I persisted. I was quite pleased with what got done before the rain.

Gibbs wasn’t interested in sitting outside while I worked, which was good for me, not having to keep an eye out for where he was. He doesn’t wander anymore but if he is just sitting on the step and it’s chilly, I would have to make sure he didn’t want inside. I’m a Mom, after all.

I didn't mention the 'b a t h', because
I didn't want this look from him.

Inside, I made myself a bp coffee and started my blog. After lunch, I had one more thing on my list to take care of. He wasn’t going to like it one bit but Gibbs needed to get in the tub, sink in our case. He has some areas, lower belly, upper leg with something gooey stuck there. Probably goose poop, I don’t know. Wish me luck!

The 'after bath' performance ensues

That actually turned out better than expected. He doesn’t have much room in our full size sink but I had about 2” of soapy water that he stood very bravely in while I used his wash mitt to scrub his lower and back ends. He was so good and when finished, deserved the Greenie he got. He goes a bit crazy after a bath so it was fun to watch.

                                    Such a ham!

We stayed inside for the rest of the day. Bill was home by 3 and he joined us inside. I read some while they dozed in the chair beside me. There was nothing to really ‘plan’ for supper as we’d decided on leftover ham, potato and our vegetable.

The afternoon looked like this

The glaze I made for the ham was quite nice, ingredients I shouldn’t eat but a bit of a sweet delight on our meat so I won’t beat myself up. The sky never cleared all day, and precisely at 2:05, the rain began. Nothing heavy but things sure greened up even more with it. It was a  bit windy off and on today but nothing to be concerned about.

The asparagus was so good!
The ham always is, in my opinion.

Supper was good and after clean up and Bill’s lunch, we had a Black Cherry ice cream cone. One day, I’ll smarten up. I shared this with our friend, Nancy, the other day so now is a good time to post it on here. 😊

Survivor finale is on tonight so we’ll settle in for a couple of hours on the edge of our seats.

It was a good Wednesday; I feel I accomplished a lot outside. Thank you for stopping by today.

  1. Those gas weed whackers are heavy and pulling the cord can be frustrating.
Get yourself a battery operated whacker. They are great!
    Comes with battery and charger.,
They self feed the line making line replacement so easy.
You’ll never go back after using one of them…

I replaced my whacker, weed sprayer, little chainsaw , hedge trimmer and even my mower with all battery operation. They work great and the batteries give you plenty of time to get the job done.

    1. Thanks Kay. My weed whacker isn't heavy but pulling the cord IS frustrating. Maybe when it gives up the ghost, I'll look at a batter operated one. :)

  6. Good for you. I am a bit overwhelmed with the weed wacker as Harvey calls it. I am sure I would not be able to add string to it at all. Great work in getting all that done before the rain. Gibbs looks nice and clean now.

    God bless.
