Labour Day Together

The Ridge

On Monday Sept. 6th we didn’t have anywhere to be. *sigh* nice feeling on a ‘holiday’. I got up at 6:30 to take Gibbs out for a change so Bill could try for a few more winks of sleep. I knew he’d stayed up until midnight watching the end of The Blind Side. I crashed at 9:30, knowing that I wouldn’t make it. 😊

Strange sky to start
Oh, look! Our inverhuron momento from 2013
got caught in this photo 😂

But the sun was there between the clouds

Daddy and Gibbs stayed in bed a little longer
but someone kept his eyes on me downstairs

So, Gibbs and Bill stayed in bed for another half hour or so and I went about making my tea. No walk this morning, it had rained a fair bit overnight and the precipitation wasn’t finished yet. The sky was hard to read again and I didn’t want to get out on the road with Gibbs and get wet by the next rain shower. Instead, we all just chilled for the morning. There weren’t any plans for the day.

Gibbs and I went for our walk later in the day

He walked through every puddle he found
and there were a lot them

It wasn’t exactly cool this morning and by late afternoon it had warmed up considerably. We started out with the furnace to take the chill/dampness out of the Suite but soon turned it off. Bill went down to the Hangar and spent a couple of hours doing his hobby stuff. I’m sure he has really enjoyed his 5 days off in a row, I don’t have to ask him. He’s accomplished a few different things on his list of things to do. 😊

We found some nice looking apples on
the trees along North Line

And then he crashed across my lap

I thought I might get back at my cross stitch but after I made him an omelette sandwich at 12:30, I decided to make a cheesecake. Something ‘non-carb’ for desserts. I don’t like ice cream being our only choice. With the cheesecake in the fridge, Gibbs and I spent a lot of leisure time in my chair. For some reason, he was really being lovable (in between going out every hour!).

A Sunday night supper on a holiday Monday

The cheesecake was good too

I read, he cuddled and slept. Bill came up from the Hangar at 4 and immediately went out to cut the front field. He didn’t get it done earlier. Around 2, I talked to Patrick, my son. I’d meant to do it all last weekend but when the time was good for me, it was not likely a good time for him. So, I texted first and he called me back within 10 minutes. We had a nice catch up chat and I’m happy to hear they are doing well.

Gibbs was ringing the bell so much today
indicating to me that he just wanted to be outside
So, after supper, I just let him run and run
and run
He found an apple and played with it for about 15 minutes

For supper, I cooked 2 butt chops in Rosy (air fryer), mashed potatoes, green beans and corn. The chops turned out pretty good and we’ll do that again. Everything else was also good. I wasn’t sure about the beans, they looked pretty thin but oh my goodness, they were delicious. The only thing with a meal like that, cooked inside, it means a lot of dishes.

I could hear the ducks before I saw them
Can you pick them out?

When they were done, Gibbs and I went for his after supper walk and Bill had his shower. It was a lovely quiet day and my book has me engrossed.  I hate that Bill has to go back to work tomorrow but at least it will be just down the highway, less than 10 minutes from home. Black Beauty will be happy with the short drive. I hope you’ve enjoyed your long weekend too. 😉

Another lovely sunset

Good night!

Thank you for your visit! Happy Labour Day!

  1. That pix of the sun peeping out of the dark clouds is beautiful, it is like the light at the end of a tunnel in this pandemic year. Gibbs looks scary with those shinny eyes, like asentinel watching guard. Gibbs sure loves running around and he is not fussy to with only an apple to keep busy. He looks too tired sometimes.

    1. Thank you, it is a pretty neat picture! :) We can only hope that is what the light means, right? :)
Gibbs does go go go and we let him to tire him out for the evenings inside. He gets pooped right out for sure!

  2. What a great day. That supper looks delicious. I'm scared to cook meat in my ninja air fryer - worried about drying out, any hints? When we were visiting Slovenia there were apple and pear trees along the roads leading into the higher elevations - you are so lucky to have some where you are. Are they Mackintosh? Gibbs is a funny little guy.

    1. Thank you. The only suggestion, since it's the first time I've cooked chops in the air fryer, is to start with less minutes and I always add a bit of oil to the bottom and season the meat. the chops took about 25 minutes but I checked every 5 minutes and moved them around. You'll only make them dry once! :) Not sure what the apples are, the trees are very small.

    1. Yes, lovable for sure when he wants to be. Can you even slow a 2 year old down? haha

    1. Thanks guys. It was a nice relaxing day together. The apples look good, I just have to taste them to see if I want to pick more for freezing. :)

  5. That Gibbs! I'm imagining the walk with him running through the puddles - too funny. Though I suppose it's not when you get home and need to clean him off.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. I admit that some of his antics end up with us having to clean him off but like a child, we take it in stride. The laughter he gives us makes it all worth it! :)
