A Two Job Day

The Ridge

When I first woke up, I could hear Bill talking to Gibbs downstairs and next I knew, the little guy was back up on the bed with me. It was 6:10 whihch meant I still had time to relax before I had to get up. I think I slept well, since I don't recall waking up but I know it took a while to drop off at 10:30.

Good morning!
Last night, while others were recovering
from the storm, we had this sky.

Bill and I caught up on the next 2 episodes of Reacher last night and as usual, it ends with a shock. We know it's far fetched but we enjoy the character and get caught up in the excitement anyway. 

And within minutes, the fog
moved in like a blanket.

This morning, I was out the door before Bill, on my way into town at 10 to 7. Bill was right on my heels though and took BB again today, as he was going to Mike's first instead of directly to the job site. He's putting windows in at Murray's home this week so an easier job for sure.

It was pretty freaky how quickly
it covered us.

The Mat was an easy clean, with only one of my regulars, so I was able to finish with a floor wash without being in anyone's way or visa versa. There was still a washer with clothes in it, men's articles, so I dried them and put them in a bag. There was also one with floor mats but I left it alone today.

I have one more day to clean before my vacation with the ladies so I'll check it then. I have been noticing that my sciatica is slowly making an appearance - again - so not too happy about that. I don't want to be hobbling this week!

Two sisters have booked us all a blocking session on Monday, so I'm going to take full advantage of that for some pointers too. I had a nibble to eat before leaving the Suite at 11:30 for Williamsford. Robin's guests requested a later departure so they weren't checking out until 12 noon.

As soon as I got on the road, my leg was acting up and when I got to the house, I had to lay on her cold ceramic floor for relief. Good grief! It comes and goes but when my foot started to go numb, I was thoroughly ticked. I wonder what has started that up again? Anyway, I'm not giving in.

I was out of the bnb by 1:30 and drove into Durham to pick something up at the Crazy Dollar before heading home. Bill was cutting grass and I could have kissed him! (I will later, 🤭) I really wanted to get it cut up here before I left but that would mean tomorrow.

We ate early tonight, I had things to do!

It was a much better day than yesterday, not so much humidity and no threats of rain or storms in the area. I feel bad for those who had to deal with that fear yesterday and the power outages that are still prominent in many areas. 

The drive into town at 6 pm
was still pretty.

I was hungry when I got home so made a one-slice toasted peanut butter and tomato sandwich. Yum, that was yummy! Supper will be leftover meatball casserole with a home prepared salad on the side. I was waiting for my face cream to arrive so Gibbs and I stayed inside until almost 4. 

He goes crazy over UPS, FedEx and Purolator vehicles. More than usual! (😉) When Bill went down to the front field to cut grass, the FedEx guy was just pulling up. Amazing how small 60 ml really is for such a big price but, hey, I'll try it for the 'glow'.

After supper, which I warmed up in the oven, using a baking sheet on the bottom to slow the heat flow, I drove into town with my Fair entries. They need to be dropped tonight for judging. 

On the way home, I dropped Robin's quilt off (it was still damp) and visited with them for a few minutes. Mildred was looking for Bill, she's besotten with him. 🤭 I know the feeling!

Bill went to the Hangar after I got back and when my blog is done, I will be watching tv, sitting on my block. 🤣 It was a great day and we both have a day off tomorrow. We reached 25C/77F and dropping to 13C/55.4F overnight. Good for sleeping.

Amidst the Warnings

On Thursday, Sept. 2nd we were all up by 6:30. That includes me! I don't have to clean this morning but Ptooties has an appointment for an oil change at 8 am in Hanover. I made my to-go tea and tucked a book under my arm.

Mike's trailer is back.

Bill was leaving at 7:30, with Black Beauty, so we followed him, Ptooties and I. He turned off at the roundabout to Murray's and I carried on, arriving with 8 minutes to spare. They don't open their office until 8 so I waited until the light came on inside.

The other night, Bill was
sending smoke signals.

I was 'iffy' about the weather, not sure if rain would fall as soon as I headed out to walk up the street to Giant Tiger, which is why I took my book along. As it turned out, I wouldn't have made the walk anyway, not because of rain, but because they were so fast! I was out of there in 18 minutes!

1 Moonflower today

My first stop was Independent for yogourt for Gibbs and I and a nice sized pork tenderloin for $9 (couldn't resist the price). Then I drove back to Walmart for the things we can't get at Costco. it was still a good haul but will stock our freezer for a couple of weeks.

The sky has been funny for days, no
difference this morning.

A quick (well, kind of) hop into Dollarama and then Giant Tiger, right next door, and I was on my way home. GT has their fall clothing out and I'm not ready for that so shopped their summer sales racks instead. 🤭 I was pleased with my purchases.

I told him I'd follow him
anywhere. I'm still doing it.💘💕

Back home, it was still looking like it could rain but then it cleared for a while and the sun made multiple appearances. There is talk of a major thunderstorm around but until we are closer to 4 pm, we don't know what areas are threatened. Fingers crossed everyone is missed! 🤞

 I had started a Michael Connelly book and 4 chapters in (I'm slow!) I realized I'd read it before, and checking my Goodreads, it was Feb. of 2021. I could read it again, it's Bosch and Ballard and I wouldn't remember it all anyway.....but I chose not to. Instead I pulled out a Janet Evanovich story called The Bounty. Not one of her typical Plum stories.

Bill was home at 4 and he and Gibbs proceeded to have their snooze. I started supper, a baked spaghetti and meatball casserole. Something else new, so yes, Bill is a real guinea pig these days for my new recipes! I have the a/c on today so using the oven on this hot, humid day is not an issue. 😄

I bought a container of 8 nectarines on the sale shelf at Walmart for $3 so cut some up for dessert. They were fine with only 2 soft spots on one fruit. I always hesitate buying fruit because I am often the only one eating it.......but cut up in a dish, Bill likes them too! Funny, huh?

This was the worst it got.
We were very fortunate.

Supper was really good and a recipe to keep tabs on to do again. A nice change to regular spaghetti and meatballs. We changed into our Lion's tee's and drove to the Durham Fire Hall for a photo op. They like as many members to show up as possible.

"We", the collective 'we', donated $1440.00 to the Durham Hospital Foundation and the Fire Department donated a nice amount as well.

It seems the storms have passed and all is well, although my sister in Clinton is still without power. 🤔 It's a lovely night and before we went to town, we turned the a/c off and opened windows.

Bit of Work, Real Packing, Handsome Little Boy

On Tuesday, Sept. 1st, I started off the month by not hearing my boys get up at 6. No earplugs either! I was sound asleep. I know I was awake a bit through the night and almost opened my little window because I was warm. I didn't though and fell back to sleep.

I was out the door with my to-go tea at 7 and walked into an empty laundromat. The Lost & Found had clothes in it as did 3 washers. That means the clothes in the washers were left here last night and not yet retrieved. One was still owing $2.00 so it hadn't even been started.

First of the month, Gibbs gets his
heart pill until November.
His flea & tick pill is every 3 mths.
We forgot on Aug. 24th so today was the day.
Bill had to cut it up into his food, tricking
him. He ate it!

I dropped 2 loonies in to at least finish it. If they are still full (which I doubt), on Thursday, I will dry them and take them to Rethreads. Back home, I had 2 1/2 hours to kill so went upstairs and began pulling out the clothes for Ladyfest. 

The weather is the 'iffy' part. 
Shorts, capris, jeans, long or short sleeves?
So, I take some of everything!

We are staying a week so I know I will go overboard. 🤷‍♀️😉 Women's perogative and all that. I may swap things out over the rest of the week but they will be packed and out in the Bunky. Out of sight out of mind. I don't have room inside to leave them.

It was mostly cloudy all morning.

Gibbs had a grooming appointment at 10 so at 9:45, we drove in to Kate's Bath and Biscuit shop. She was ready for him and told me he'd be ready at 11:30. To me that means she isn't busy today, it usually is 2 hours with other pooches to tend to.

Back at the Suite, I got the suitcase out. It won't upset someone this way and I packed most everything in my one rollaway. I have a second bag that works well (& expands) for the rest. I'm driving 3 of us so there will be room to take as many as we need.

I can't recall if I told you that this bnb is in Southampton, ON, near the water. The host books for a week, at least that was the offer (maybe because school is back in?) so we took it for the whole 7 days. Makes sense since we are paying for it.

The suitcase went to the Bunky for now and it was time to get our handsome little boy. Much better, he was a woolly mammoth when I dropped him off. She does an awesome job and to this day, I don't know how they do it! Worth every penny!

I had an egg salad wrap with a tomato and cheese on the side for lunch. During which, I finished my book. I was sad to turn the last page, it was such a good story. Gibbs and I walked to the mailbox but we were too early, she hadn't been by yet.

(okay, men, you can skip this part)

I went online and placed an order for some face cream from a small Canadian business in Ancaster, ON. I've noticed more spots and rough patches (for lack of a better word) on my face and although I usually only apply coconut oil, it is quite annoying. 

The Sedum is starting to take
on its fall colour. I've been waiting.

This product is 100% natural with no chemicals and I decided to splurge. The reviews are very good and the Tallow Twins (the name of their business) are very likeable and seem very sincere. Don't tell me it's age, everyone says that but not everyone experiences the same things.

We can change the outcome on our own, if we are willing to try. 😉 Sounds like I'm defending my decision, and in a way I am, to myself, but I'm the only one who matters here. it would be nice to notice an improvement!

Bill got home just before 2, changed his clothes and followed Billy (kind of) to Mike's to pick up his trailer. He hasn't had it here for over a month. Once home, he did a little online searching for an rc related item before having his snooze. I decided to sit at my table and try for some seasonal earrings.

I should have closed things up today and put the a/c on, all of a sudded, today was a humid mess! I couldn't get cooled off but it was too late by mid day to do anything but 'suffer'. 🤭For supper, we had fish, fries and onion rings. You know who had what, right?

my pumpkins are too small but I'll
offer them at a discount. 
😉

Nothing fancy, just fried fish, deep fried chips and air fried rings. It was all very good. After we washed the used pots, Bill made his lunch and tried to trick Gibbs into taking his last Bravecto (flea) pill. No way will he take it like he takes his heart pill. 🤷‍♀️

Supper was good.

It has been hot and muggy today with a fair bit of sun and no wind. We reached 27C/80.6F but feeling like 35C/95F. We had a good day! A couple of videos of our little one showing off his new cut.

A Really Relaxed Day

It was 6:20 am when I first noticed the time on Monday, Aug. 31st. Last day of the month, hmm, with September waiting in the wings. Today, another dull, cloudy, rainy day is upon us. That just means for me, find something inside to do.

Bill was up and left at 7:20. It was such a light mist that he still walked down the lane to meet Billy. They are almost finished this massive job in Owen Sound and I think they are both anxious for it to be done. We watched him disappear in the trees and then sat with my tea.

I got caught up in some online videos, those ones regarding health that g2o on forever before you can find out how much things cost? Yah, well, I was curious so left it running in the background, volume off, while I read my book. Don't tell the surf-nazi's!🤭

Lunch was something different.
But it was good!

 At the end, I placed an order then immediately canceled when I saw the shipping charges on top of the exchange rate. Moving on, I debated whether I wanted to finish quilling some earrings or read or start packing. I ignored my craft table (letting my ideas brew today) and did some packing and reading before lunch.

I had a bowl of chicken noodle soup with my leftover onion rings from yesterday. They weren't as crispy but still tasted yummy. Bill was home around 1:30, which was a surprise, they are waiting for paint to dry before they can do the last touchups at the building. One more day, he says!

He changed and nipped into town for some propane before settling in for the afternoon. Gibbs snoozed on my lap with Uni and Bill went upstairs for his nap. I know I dozed downstairs a bit too. 

We weren't outside really at all today,
so I tried to entice with a walk, but
it was a no-go.

For supper, I had some beef liver for me thawing as well as a pork chop for Bill. It was very good; Bill grilled his chop, I fried the liver and we had mashed potatoes. 

This thick slice of liver was perfectly cooked.

After cleanup, I finished today's post and did some more reading. It's a darn good book! Last night's movie was A Feast of Love with Morgan Freeman and it was entertaining. 😉

We had a cloudy high of 22C/71.6F today but Bill said it was quite humid in Owen Sound today for working. The sun came out for about an hour just before supper so I can't imagine getting the storm they are forecasting. 🤷‍♀️ It was a great, lazy day.

Do We Need a Loan? (🤣🤣)

On Sunday, Aug. 30th I was up and in town by 7:15 with the dirty laundry. Dollar Store Dave was inside as was a younger couple whom I've not seen before. He was quite pleasant, she was non-descript, appearing miserable.

Good morning!
The overnight rain did a number
on my 1 Moonflower.
This was early too!

Hmm, Dave said after they left that he thinks they went camping and left their shoes outside over night. Both had shoes and sweatshirts in the dryer. 🤭 Woops! They had phones so obviously didn't check the weather reports. 🤷‍♀️

The air was so still when I left for
the Mat.
The flags were all wet-stuck to the
poles.

They were all gone and I was left to finish our 3 loads by myself. One load was towels and bath mat, since it was to be another 'possible rainy' day. It sure wasn't adequate for a craft sale! Oh well, I DID check the weather forecast so knew this last night.

I won't even share how much this
all cost, trust me - a lot!!

So, I was home by 9, we put our clothes away, I changed out of my work clothes and we drove to Guelph's Costco. It was time to start the stock up for winter and it was that kind of day. Apparently, everyone else thought so too. Traditionally, it was jam-packed!

It was after 12:30 so we stopped
in Fergus for lunch at A & W.
Our favourite, Cheddar Bacon Uncle Burger
combo. The onion rings today were great!

We almost needed to take out a loan to pay for the cart full we had but there are many things we will not need to buy again for a minimum of 6 months, maximum of 1 year. We were prepared for a large bill, as it usually is. We won't need to go back this fall.

On the way home, and all day,
this is the most blue sky we saw.

Back home, in Durham, we fueled up Ptooties but our hope that prices would have dropped this morning did not come to fruition. Still $1.63/litre. Oh well, she was thirsty and took almost $75. We got the groceries put away, Bill found room for the bulk stuff and he and Gibbs had a snooze.

Bill went for water at the Acreage and when he returned, we calculated how much toilet paper, kleenex and paper towels to take south. The rest will be stored in the Bunky in non-penetrable containers so the mice can't get at it.

For supper, since we had a big lunch, it was blt & cheese toasted sandwiches. Enough to fill the wee gap and they were tasty. Just one fry pan to wash by hand and a quiet evening. Last night I watched a rerun of Return to Me with Minny Driver so not sure what I'll find tonight.

This was a good day. By supper time, dampness in the form of a misty rain had moved in and that brought the temperature down. Should be a good night for sleeping again.
