A Really Relaxed Day

 The Ridge

It was 6:20 am when I first noticed the time on Monday, Aug. 31st. Last day of the month, hmm, with September waiting in the wings. Today, another dull, cloudy, rainy day is upon us. That just means for me, find something inside to do.

Bill was up and left at 7:20. It was such a light mist that he still walked down the lane to meet Billy. They are almost finished this massive job in Owen Sound and I think they are both anxious for it to be done. We watched him disappear in the trees and then sat with my tea.

I got caught up in some online videos, those ones regarding health that g2o on forever before you can find out how much things cost? Yah, well, I was curious so left it running in the background, volume off, while I read my book. Don't tell the surf-nazi's!🤭

Lunch was something different.
But it was good!

 At the end, I placed an order then immediately canceled when I saw the shipping charges on top of the exchange rate. Moving on, I debated whether I wanted to finish quilling some earrings or read or start packing. I ignored my craft table (letting my ideas brew today) and did some packing and reading before lunch.

I had a bowl of chicken noodle soup with my leftover onion rings from yesterday. They weren't as crispy but still tasted yummy. Bill was home around 1:30, which was a surprise, they are waiting for paint to dry before they can do the last touchups at the building. One more day, he says!

He changed and nipped into town for some propane before settling in for the afternoon. Gibbs snoozed on my lap with Uni and Bill went upstairs for his nap. I know I dozed downstairs a bit too. 

We weren't outside really at all today,
so I tried to entice with a walk, but
it was a no-go.

For supper, I had some beef liver for me thawing as well as a pork chop for Bill. It was very good; Bill grilled his chop, I fried the liver and we had mashed potatoes. 

This thick slice of liver was perfectly cooked.

After cleanup, I finished today's post and did some more reading. It's a darn good book! Last night's movie was A Feast of Love with Morgan Freeman and it was entertaining. 😉

I pick the dead blooms off daily
and I'm still amazed at the size of these
flowers.

We had a cloudy high of 22C/71.6F today but Bill said it was quite humid in Owen Sound today for working. The sun came out for about an hour just before supper so I can't imagine getting the storm they are forecasting. 🤷‍♀️ It was a great, lazy day.

Do We Need a Loan? (🤣🤣)

The Ridge

On Sunday, Aug. 30th I was up and in town by 7:15 with the dirty laundry. Dollar Store Dave was inside as was a younger couple whom I've not seen before. He was quite pleasant, she was non-descript, appearing miserable.

Good morning!
The overnight rain did a number
on my 1 Moonflower.
This was early too!

Hmm, Dave said after they left that he thinks they went camping and left their shoes outside over night. Both had shoes and sweatshirts in the dryer. 🤭 Woops! They had phones so obviously didn't check the weather reports. 🤷‍♀️

The air was so still when I left for
the Mat.
The flags were all wet-stuck to the
poles.

They were all gone and I was left to finish our 3 loads by myself. One load was towels and bath mat, since it was to be another 'possible rainy' day. It sure wasn't adequate for a craft sale! Oh well, I DID check the weather forecast so knew this last night.

I won't even share how much this
all cost, trust me - a lot!!

So, I was home by 9, we put our clothes away, I changed out of my work clothes and we drove to Guelph's Costco. It was time to start the stock up for winter and it was that kind of day. Apparently, everyone else thought so too. Traditionally, it was jam-packed!

It was after 12:30 so we stopped
in Fergus for lunch at A & W.
Our favourite, Cheddar Bacon Uncle Burger
combo. The onion rings today were great!

We almost needed to take out a loan to pay for the cart full we had but there are many things we will not need to buy again for a minimum of 6 months, maximum of 1 year. We were prepared for a large bill, as it usually is. We won't need to go back this fall.

On the way home, and all day,
this is the most blue sky we saw.

Back home, in Durham, we fueled up Ptooties but our hope that prices would have dropped this morning did not come to fruition. Still $1.63/litre. Oh well, she was thirsty and took almost $75. We got the groceries put away, Bill found room for the bulk stuff and he and Gibbs had a snooze.

I noticed a lot of white

Bill went for water at the Acreage and when he returned, we calculated how much toilet paper, kleenex and paper towels to take south. The rest will be stored in the Bunky in non-penetrable containers so the mice can't get at it. 

Different varieties too

For supper, since we had a big lunch, it was blt & cheese toasted sandwiches. Enough to fill the wee gap and they were tasty. Just one fry pan to wash by hand and a quiet evening. Last night I watched a rerun of Return to Me with Minny Driver so not sure what I'll find tonight.

This was a good day. By supper time, dampness in the form of a misty rain had moved in and that brought the temperature down. Should be a good night for sleeping again.

No Commitments Today at All!

There was no rush to get up and moving on Saturday, Aug. 29th so Bill took his time getting ready to go flying and I took my time coming downstairs. It was still just after 7 when we saw each other for our good mornings. There is no such thing as sleeping in here. Even on weekends.

Good morning!

However, I did forget one thing I wanted to do.........and didn't realize it until late in the afternoon! So, Bill left for the flying field arouind 7:30 and I sat with Gibbs to finish my tea. I needed a shower.......well, I didn't 'need' a shower but it was time to have one. 🤭

Not a day goes by without a good
laugh with this little guy around.
I could hear him scratching the blanket,
and he disappeared under it.
When he heard me laughing, I had
to take a video of what he did next.
Volume on.

Then, I got the central vac out and did the floors. I like the Dirt Devil but the bigger one does a more thorough job and I can use an attachment to reach under the slideouts. With that done, Gibbs was happy and relaxed again, I sat to start a new book.

Then, this morning. He watched
Daddy leave. 'They' watched, I mean.

Bill took the weed trimmer
to the field for some clean up.
It was too windy to fly anyway.

This one is a good one right off the get-go so it will be done quickly. It's called The Book of Lost Names by Kristen Harmel. I was hooked on the first 2 pages! I didn't do much else all morning but just before noon, we went outside together.

Until he saw the poinsettia,
Bill thought it was a wedding card.
That inspired me to use the
bells on my next card.

Not too bad,

I did a bit of weeding around the wood pile where I have a few Moonflowers and decided that maybe I'll give those to Donna. It isn't the best place for them, since the wood tends to shift at times (thanks Chippy!) and rolls down, threatening the delicate plants.

today too.

For lunch, since Bill had texted me a picture of his lunch with the boys, I made one of my stuffed, messy quesadillas. Yummy and filling. 

You might get tired of seeing them,
but I have yet to get tired of eating
them. This one had an egg in it too.

Back into the book and I had a hard time putting it down. I moved to my craft table and made another card for either a wedding or anniversary.

They did look like it when I broke one
open. 🤷‍♀️

I debated about holding a sale tomorrow but now it looks like rain in the forecast all day! Duh!! I guess I won't be doing that. I have the Mat to clean and laundry to do anyway so probably just as well. We might take a trip to Costco since the day will be a write-off.

It was a lazy afternoon, my boys snoozed and then Bill went out to dump our black tank. Gibbs and I went out as well and I did more weeding down the garden by the corral fence. Gradually, I get my 'weeding groove' back and with the ground damp, it's easy.

We didn't get rain today but a couple of times when the wind picked up, it seemed like it might. It was very mild though and the wind felt refreshing. We all had a 20 minute rest together in the hammock, Gibbs loves it and the fact we are all together. 💖

Bill cut it down and burned it with
the few critters that he saw.
Ewwww, I hate them!

For supper, we had grilled sausages on a bun and our last cob of corn each. It has been very good this year, no matter where we bought it. The wind has died after supper and Bill walked down to the Hangar.

While Bill barbecued, Gibbs knew
Uni(corn) can't go outside so
patiently waited at the door.
He didn't put her down.
Now that's love.

It has been a good day. I hope you can say the same. Oh yes! I forgot to tell you what I forgot to do today. I had planned to go into Durham this morning to another church trunk sale......but it never entered my mind. LOL Saved $$, no doubt, but likely missed out on something REALLY good! 🤣🤔

Quiet at the Mat and........No Birthdays!

On Friday, Aug. 28th the weekend and the month-end are within an arm's reach. I can't believe it is so cool in the mornings though for being 2 weeks ahead of fall! Feels like late October weather, feels like we should be packing up and leaving!

This was last night's sunset.

I got up and out the door shortly after 7, leaving my boys behind. Bill would have walked down to meet Billy by 7:30, leaving Gibbs in charge. A job which he takes very seriously, let me tell you. He watches us leave, goes upstairs and promptly falls asleep. 💕

Rise and shine!
The fog was heavy this morning in 
certain areas.

I went first to get the water bottle filled and then to the Mat. It was empty so I took advantage and cleaned out the lint from the 3 big dryers. It's just easier without customers milling about. You've heard me talk about them but now you get a sneak peek at the 'big dryers'.

Geesh! I'm thinking Arizona again!

I need tools to remove the 2 sizes of bolts that hold the doors on, because they are so old. They've been replaced many times when they get stripped, the bolts, not the dryers. 🤭 I found 2 nickles and my favourite dime today, so an addition to my piggy bank. 🐷

It isn't difficult, just time consuming
and more awkward when
customers are around.

The lint drops off the screen
easily. This is where I find the coins
often.

There was a bag of baby clothes in the Lost & Found, on purpose I'm sure, so I washed them along with a comforter from the other day. Once dried, I kept the soft unicorn toy for a special someone at home here and bagged everything else. It got dropped at Rethreads on my way home.

and it was clear as a bell.
Kind of like cleaning my camera lens
yesterday, right? 🤭

I boiled a couple more eggs to add to the egg salad. It went quite runny overnight so this thickened it up for sandwiches. I even like it without the bread. I had a little side project that I wanted to do, using a white pillow case, but it isn't 'showable' so ixnayed that idea. 🤣

Thank you for all the birthday wishes for Gayle, she had a nice day spent with her son and family. With C the A tonight, Bill and I will have the casserole leftovers for supper. Nice and easy, with corn, for before we go or after we come home. Friday, yay, Bill will be happy.

The Hibiscus won't give up.

I wished Robin and Andrew a safe trip home today and they were just boarding at 11:23 am. They were fixing a window at Mildred's Seaside bnb in Heart's Content, Nfld. It is right on the ocean so understable. It looks really quaint, maybe one day???? 

I need to call this the
Dahlia Corner.

Gibbs and I went out at 2 but he had no intention of walking down to get the mail for some reason. He sat on the step and waited for me. I took advantage and pulled the dead flower stalks from the lilies down there, soon I will cut them all right back. It looks so messy now.

Oh there you are! I'm glad you came back!

Bill was home around 3 and after changing into shorts, had his snooze with Gibbs cuddled close beside him. I finished my second Christmas card and at 3:30 made my cup of tea. I like to have it finished before 5 when we have to leave for town.

and a repeat supper.

We're picking up tickets from Eckhardt's on our way in to help Roz and Brian. Well, tonight, it was a sparse crowd with many people on vacation but one of my two regular #'s was drawn. #23 is no longer on the table to pick but the Ace of Spades is still out there. Yay!

but dropping to a cool 9C/48.2F
overnight.
Fall weather.

We dropped tickets at Eckhardt's and returned home to our happy little bum. I reheated the casserole and cooked the corn. It was just as good tonight as it was last night. We cleaned the dish by hand and Bill went to the Hangar for the evening.

This was a good day with one job and no birthdays. Tomorrow will be even slower. I hope your weekend starts off well too! 

Last year, we were putting the
Lion's Club float together on
Aug. 28th.
We were talking about it tonight
at the meeting.
Next Friday, the fall fair parade is Saturday.

Not the Perfect Guests 🤷‍♀️Yet Another Sibling Birthday!

The day started out pretty quiet, on Thursday, Aug. 27th with Bill getting up to the sound of the alarm. Even Gibbs sat up with 'what is that noise?' and waited for Daddy to kill it. 🤭 He left for work a few minutes after 7, walking down the lane to meet Billy.

Good Morning!
We watch Bill go off to work.

I relaxed and finished the last chapter and a half of my book. I tried hard last night to read those last 6 pages but it wasn't happening. It gave me something to look forward to first thing though! It was an awesome book, if you like John Grisham, get it, you won't be sorry.

are you staying home for the winter?

Robin had messaged that there would be 4 guests coming in today to her bnb, staying for 4 nights. That is such good information, allowing me to be sure there is enough water in the fridge, at least for a couple of days. Enough coffee pods, t.p. and paper towels.

So, I listened, then took the one on the right.
Guess my Samsung is pretty smart!

When I walked in at 11:30, they didn't inform her that they left early so I'll bet they rushed out right at 11. That impression came from how they left the place. Not dirty, except for the bathtub, but messy and proof of inconsideration for the host.

Pictures will show. Mats all over the floor, dishes left in the rack to dry, water all over the bathroom counter, 7 bath towels used (there were only 5 guests for 1 night ??) and they'd emptied the dryer of what I'd put in (obviously to use it, which is fine) but instead of putting the damp things back in, left them piled on a chair. I just don't get it.

why not use them to dry the dishes?

I took the pictures to show Robin, she needs to know who is disrespectful and who is pristine (which most are). I took care of business and lastly, brought sheets and bath mats out for drying and washing at Robin's. She asked me to water her many plants so I did that last and left around 1:30.

They should be ashamed.

Stopping at her place to set one of her Marketplace items out for a customer, I put the items in her dryer and set it to run. She will be home tomorrow so they won't be sitting in there long. Back home, Gibbs was patient and surprisingly quiet when I pulled in. Sometimes, he barks, sometimes he just waits, like today. 💕

a Christmas card.

I'd snacked on cheese and a smoothie with my coffee so wasn't hungry when I got home. I finished my Christmas card and started on another one. Bill fixed my quails so I put them with the other 2 items for the memoir entry. 

One is a vase we bought in Mexico our first year and the third are my Elvis earrings from 2018. Nice memories. Gibbs and I went out, and I stacked a few things together in the Bunky for LadyFest. Things I didn't want to forget. I haven't even started packing clothes yet, with no place to put them.

oven to help distribute the heat.

Bill was home early, around 3:30, so that was nice. I decided today to create something different for supper. A chicken, rice, bacon casserole, to be baked in the oven. It is cooking now so fingers crossed it is a success. It was pretty easy to prepare. 🤞

The sky was actually starting to clear
a bit.

Well, that backfired, my crossed fingers. I'd put a foil cookie sheet on the bottom to help distribute the heat (it was a suggestion on RV forum) but that almost completely stopped the cooking process. So, realizing that after 45 minutes, I removed it and 15 minutes later we were eating. 🤔

It turned out great
and I learned not to mess with
a new oven. 🤭

Bottom line, the casserole was delicious! Better yet, there are leftovers for another night. We cleaned up the dishes, Bill made his lunch and that was our day. We didn't get any warmer than 19C/66.2F under cloudy skies and we did get some rain, but not a lot.

I think we'll get a lovely sunset
tonight. You'll see it tomorrow.

It was a good day and more cash goes in my bank account. 😉 Today, we celebrate another sibling's birthday. Three this month! Gayle, 3rd oldest in the family, is next on the list.
