What a Wonderful Day!

 The Ridge

On Thursday, May 21st I was up a few minutes past 7, on time to see Bill off to the job. It was going to be a lovely sun-filled day, even though it started off at a chilly 1.667C/35F. When we went to bed last night, we each pulled our single blankets up over the duvet and slept well.

Good morning!
Actually, this made my morning,
seeing our first visit from
this little guy.
I've been waiting.

At night, I have been rubbing Vick's Vaporub on the bottome of my feet and wearing sockettes. For the last 4 nights and by golly, I believe it is the answer to overnight coughing. I never woke once and that's good for Bill too. 😀

I've used some pretty natural remedies for my cold and can say that it is 98% gone. The best news of all is that I didn't share it with my sweetie. After he pulled out, I made my tea and sat at my laptop. I wanted to purchase the Catch the Ace tickets for Barrie so did that online. It would be nice to win!

What do you see?
Or should I say,
"who do you see?"
across the room watching me.

Yesterday, in town we bought our Durham tickets, which would also be nice. Gibbs and I went out to walk a couple of greeting cards to the mailbox and although it was indeed chilly, that sun made a world of difference. We stayed outside, puttering around.

I was very surprised when Gibbs started barking at a vehicle and then realized it was Bill home from work. He'd guessed that it would be another short day but I didn't expect him this early. I think it was just before 11. Surprise! He stayed in the Suite with Gibbs and snoozed until lunchtime.

The pond looks calm today.

I went out and re'painted' a sign that we hung at the gate this year. I used my waterproof markers instead of paint and we'll see how well they last. The sign is vertical and not facing any direct sun so it should be good for the summer at least. It looks readable now.

While down there, I pulled grass and dandelions out of the lily/geranium flowerbed along the fence at the end of the lane. I wish I could wave a magic wand but it was taken away from me in my youth, I guess. 🤣 Bit by bit, the bed gets cleaned up even though I'm never completely on top of the weeds.

It doesn't have to be monumental
to make me happy.
When I saw 2 nests in these hats
it made hanging them years ago
worth while.

I came in for lunch and Bill had already eaten his sandwich from his lunchpail. Cheater! I had toast with jam and peanut butter. Separate, I don't care for them mixed like many do. Back outside I went. Bill was working on repairing the solenoid starter for the dump trailer.

Unfortunately, straps in the box fell on it during one of the last trips and burned important stuff in there. Because it isn't our trailer, he felt terrible and has been trying to fix it ever since. He replaced the solenoid at Mike's suggestion as that seemed to be the issue.

At least it is readable now.

The one he bought wasn't the exact one but might have worked. Today he was determined so hooked up and drove to Flatbed Central near Varney on Hwy #6. He wishes he'd gone there first as the fellow there was very nice and helpful.

He did sell Bill the correct one, giving him a deal, but it works like a charm and we'll eat the cost. It always happens when you borrow something, right? We will tell Robin and Andrew what happened, no secret here! I prayed a lot all day for it to work out  and it paid off. 🙏

Some views, I never tire of.

Just when he tought he was done for the day, I had to inform him that our fresh water tank was reading empty/zero/zilch/0 so he drove to the Acreage at 4 to get a bladder full. Tomorrow he'll be gone all day and if I run out of water........well, I guess I'd survive, but he looks after us.

For supper, we had bbq'd sausages on a bun. I skipped the bun and had carb-less squash with mine. I cheat in other ways, believe me. LOL Before Bill left for water, we removed the tarp from Ptooties.

With the sun shining on his
back, he returned to have another
big drink.

He will be driving her, carefully, to Hanover Speedy Glass in the morning, where Billy will pick him up for work. What a rigmorole I created! I've been in the Bunky for much of the day, purging. I have so many crafting supplies, things I've picked up over the years 'in case' I felt like, well, creating. 🤭

One of our WGDLC members, two actually, are involved with the youth organization here in the area and I'm going to offer stuff to them IF they are interested. If not, it will get dropped at Rethreads in town. It's hard to part with some things, but my interests have changed.

Thirsty little fellow

Supper was good and when it was done and over with, I was happy to tell Bill, who hadn't stopped since he came home, that I made his lunch for him. It's small but he appreciated it. We sat and watched - you guessed it - more Bosch. Only one show finale left and that's tomorrow night so tv is a bust.

Supper was good.
We finished the strawberries and
whipped cream for dessert.

This was a really nice day, reaching 13.88C/57F, warmer than I expected because the wind was low. Overnight will still be about 3C/39F so I'm happy to wait until tomorrow to plant my vegetables. I hope you had a lovely day!

On May 21, 2017 I was
preparing to plant some
geraniums. I've changed things
up since then.
Good night!

Thank you for popping in.

Forgive and Deal, Evening Station "Tour, Clouds

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 20th I was up before 7 so I would be awake enough to take Bill to work. With only one vehicle now, my penance is to get him where he needs to be so I can get to where I need to be. 🤭 I have the Mat commitment this morning.

Good morning!

We left Gibbs in charge at 7:30 and I dropped him at Murray's for 8 am. From there, since I was so to Hanover, I drove in to Walmart to check on their vegetable plants. Yay! They had a few varieties of cherry tomatoes so I picked up 4 plants. That means one in each of my plots.

For some reason, the clouds were
drawing my attention today.
Driving home, north on BCRd.

I drove straight to the Mat and did my cleaning in the empty building. We have a hooked rug from my Uncle Harold in our short hallway to the bedroom and it has needed a good washing. I think I usually just shake it out real good and hang on the line to air.  So, I washed it with our bath mat while there.

Looking to the northeast
from Baptist Church Road.

Did it ever come out nice! Note to self, 'do that more often'. I hung the bath mat on the line when I got home and that was it for my day. Thank you all so much for the kind words over my Oopsie. You are all correct, it could have been so much worse and Gibbs nor I were hurt.

Gibbs walked partway to the mailbox
and stopped. That wind was cold in our
faces. He has his sweater on today,
protection from the cold day and blackflies.

Since my puzzle was done, and it was too cool to plant (dropping to 1 or 2 overnight), I did some paper quilling. Just a couple of bookmarks. I'm feeling quite good today, just the odd cough now and then but I believe I've kicked this cold to the curb.

Uncle Harold was the bachelor
of the family and kept busy with many things.
One hobby was rug hooking.
I love this one. He had so many that after he
passed, many of us picked one out.

Bill was done early, they are drywalling so that means mud, tape, wait, sand, mud, tape, wait - something like that. But a process so in between they can't do anything but go home. I met him and Billy in Durham to pick Bill up and we headed to Harriston Ford.

Yummy tacos for supper.

Black Beauty has a recall on her backup camera so we wanted to make an appointment. With the warm then wet weather, 2 nights of rain, the grass is going nuts! So, Bill hopped on the mower and cut the grass in the fields and in my area. It was yellow with dandelions too.

After supper, driving into
Durham at dusk.

We watched some afternoon tv, more Bosch, and we had tacos for supper. So messy but so yummy. We cleaned up and drove in to the new police station in town for 7 pm. The West Grey-Durham Lions Club supports the Police with various things so we were all granted a tour of their new building.

The two officers didn't mind
posing with our WG-DLC
President Lion Doug.

We were greeted by 2 on duty officers, I'm not sure of Nancy's position but she took half of our group on one tour from the back to front and Sgt. Ben Meyer took the rest of us on a tour from the front of the building, administration office to the back.

This is a really nice building
allowing them to expand a lot!

He was very informative, personable and interested in sharing information in answer to our questions. It is a wonderful addition to the town of Durham and such an improvement from the former station. Kudos to both of them for their time and for obliging me with a picture!

I love this picture as we were
arriving home.

Survivor was on when we got home at 8:15 and it was the finale. That meant 2 1/2 hours so I skipped the blog (not the dishes) and we watched it together. We were a tad disappointed with the outcome but only because we had a favourite. No spoiler here in case you missed it.

Looking over the berm to 'our' turbines
in the fields behind us.
We like the view a lot.

It has been a great day. I've put things behind me from Ptooties damage and forgiven myself. Such a dumb thing, beating yourself up over an accident. I hope you had a nice hump day. We reached 10C/50F for a high temp, meaning Bill had a reprieve from blackflies while cutting grass!

Wednesday draws to a close

Good night!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by.

Oopsie! Go to Your Room! Handsome Boy

The Ridge

When I woke up on Tuesday, May 19th, I knew I'd had a really good sleep. I know I was dreaming, my step-daughter, Krystal and her sister, Charlotte, were prominent just before waking. Interesting. I could hear Bill get up so that was around 6:15, I think.

Good morning!
This is the morning ritual
before Bill goes to work.

Today was another warm day with more thunderstorms forecasted for the day's end. Each day I wake, I am feeling better and still am so grateful that this 'cold' has not progressed beyond my throat. No sniffles, no fever, no headache and even my throat hasn't been sore since the first day.

The little boy I dropped off
at Bath and Biscuit.

Soon it will be but a memory.😉 Bill left at 7:30 and Gibbs and I relaxed until about 9. I was finished my tea so went upstairs and brushed the little guy. He loves being brushed but when I came across a couple of sticky 'buds' off the tree, he wasn't so happy.

I stopped at Foodland's garden centre
and came home with 12 plants to start

I finished by brushing his teeth and snipping a couple of hair clumps from those long flowing ears of his. At 9:45, we drove into town for his grooming appointment at Kates. I couldn't locate his seatbealt in the back so had him on his leash, tethered beside me in the front seat. He behaved very well.

I had to stop at the bush
on Baptist Church Rd. for
a picture before these Trilliums
were gone.

After dropping him off, I drove to Foodland and picked out 12 vegetable plants. At 4 for $12, I took advantage. Just various tomatoes and peppers but I want some cherry tomatoes as well. They didn't have any. I have 16 'plots' so will shop either at Coop or Walmart.

The handsome boy I picked up
2 hours later.

I came home and worked on the puzzle until it was time to pick Gibbs up at 12 noon. He looks as handsome as ever and I'm sure feels like a million bucks. It didn't cost quite that much but his fees are still a lot. We keep saying how good a job she does, something we can't do, so pay what we need to.

Going out of town, the
Donut tree is filling out.

This little guy was having fun
with his head in the wind.

Then, at home, when I'd almost slowed to a stop, I thought I'd put Ptooties in Park and took my foot off the brake as I gathered up his leash and my purse. Oopsie! We rolled slowly right into the Suite's 5th wheel hitch, smash right into the passenger side windshield!

I feel/felt so bad.
Poor Ptooties!

I put her in Reverse and backed up before calling Bill. What a blubbering mess I was! Poor man, took a while to get out of me what happened. I'm sure it was a scary 30 seconds for him too! He calmed me down and after making sure Gibbs and I were safe, said he'd be home soon.

Finally, my first hummingbird
visits.

There's always worse case scenarios, you know like touching the gas instead..........so, I calmed down and when my dear, sweet, hubby came home, he pulled her up onto the mat so I could vacuum up the mess. He called Speedy AutoGlass and made an appointment for Friday to replace it. LOL

Because of the impending rain,
we covered the windshield.

I will be taking him to work in the morning so I have Black Beauty to do my job. The car is driveable but until Friday, when Bill takes it in, we'll not risk it. Tomorrow's temperature will be another shock, just so we don't get comfy with the warmth. Good grief!

While they slept, I
finished the puzzle.

Bill and Gibbs snoozed and I went out and finished the puzzle. One piece missing, darn! It was a fun one to do but I miss my puzzling partner, Renee, and Sue, with her odd piece here and there.  🤭 We had some good conversations while she worked and I played.

One of those pictures that
are too precious to miss.

For supper, I will quick fry a couple of eye of the round steaks that Bill brought home from the field yesterday. Extras leftover from their brunch. Never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Steak supper, it is! The steak was a bit tough but they actually were okay.

The Phlox is brightening
up the garden.

I cooked potatoes and a vegetable each and black cherry Chapman's ice cream for dessert. I had a half banana in mine. 💕 We cleaned up the dishes and continued with Bosch. I'm enjoying watching tv with Bill, he remembers more of these episodes than I do!

A rare picture.
3 Goldfinches having a meeting.

It was a good day if we can forget about Ptooties. 😕 We reached 26.67C/80F and will be dropping to 4.44C/40F overnight. Back to winter temps tomorrow. Oh brother!

Supper was good.
Good night!

Thank you for the visit.

A Working Holiday for Moi

The Ridge

On Monday, May 18th the day fell into place as they usually do. Bill wasn't too sure about it being flying weather but wanted to go for the social gathering. The boys had planned to barbecue brunch at the field and he didn't want to miss that either.

Good morning!

On the way, he dropped our garbage and recycling at the gate. Even though it is a holiday, our garbage pick up is always every other Monday. It was about 10 minutes later when I left the Ridge as well. The Mat was quiet except for one customer and I was in and out within my hour.

I drove to Foodland, usually open on holidays as well. It was only 8:30 and they didn't open until 9. I wasn't keen on sitting around  for 30 minutes, I drove around to Pat's and dropped off a bag of tops for her and went home. I'll be through town later.

Driving to Williamsford

At home, I hopped in the shower and packed a snack/lunch with my coffee. I drove to Williamsford at 10:45 to clean the air bnb. Stupid thing is that because of my blackfly bites from yesterday, I took 1 (ONE) Benadryl for the itching. I knew 2 would make me drowsy (it happened last summer).

Part way to the house, it hit me that I was extremely drowsy. Oh-oh. I debated pulling over and resting for a few minutes but I knew for something in my system like that, a few minutes wouldn't help.

There is something about the wind
that Gibbs isn't crazy about.
He visited me in the Bunky often.

I now believe that because I hadn't eaten anything other than yogourt, one pill hit me hard because of it. When I arrived safely, I opened up and sat on the sofa and closed my eyes. In seconds I dropped off for 20 minutes.

I felt much better when I woke after some cheese and a pepperoni stick. I learned a hard lesson. I was able to carry on, strip all beds, wash the linens and take care of the floors within an hour and a half. At 1 pm I messaged Robin that I was out and it was ready for guests.

The puzzle is coming but
this part is the hardest.

Before I got to Durham, she had paid me with a nice raise. 😉 I think business is good as I didn't ask for an increase. I stopped at Foodland and picked up the items on my list before returning home to my boys. Mike had left earlier.

The rest of the day was hot, windy but quiet. Bill went to the Hangar and I worked on the puzzle. It was hot inside the Suite so we all stayed out. Gibbs enjoyed laying the shade while we were otherwise occupied. He's such a good boy and I kept checking on him.

The burger was delicious.
We were both very hungry.

For supper, Bill grilled his bacon cheeseburgers. His was a double since these are thinner and we had an uneven number. 🤭 He enjoyed it. We were watching the weather, there was a thunderstorm on the horizon coming from Michigan. It's the winds that are worrisome.

Watching Bosch reruns and getting ready to hop into the truck if we need to. This has been a good day. We reached a hot 27.22C/81F this afteroon.

Fresh strawberries from Foodland
were on sale.

Some cash in my pocket, Bill had a good morning with his friends and Gibbs was with us for most of the day. He gets a haircut in the morning so will feel and look different again. 💕

Someone was tired right out
from all the security duty today.
Good night!

Thank you for popping in.

Wee Bit of Work, Lots of Indoor Puzzling

The Ridge

It was nice to see clear skies when I opened my eyes on Sunday, May 17th. I knew we were in for a nice day here. I had plans to plant my dahlia bulbs and Bill carried out his plans to go flying. He was hooked up last night to his cargo trailer with batteries for planes charged.

Good morning!
Last night's sunset
didn't let me down.

This would be his first time so I knew he would be gone for the morning. I fought to get my voice working this morning although my throat was feeling pretty good, just phlemy and the constant trying to clear it. After Bill said goodbye and left, Gibbs and I did our stretches and came down.

My dresses from Temu.
Perfect fit, less than $10 each
and I'm very happy with them.

As much as I would have loved to go out and sit with my tea, I knew better. The blackflies were out in full force. So, we sat inside and at 9 went out to plant my dahlias. I was garbed in long pants, light jacket and my netted 'tilly-style' hat. They were all around my face!

Gibbs does like his shade.

I leave a bag full of the bulbs, dug up last fall, with Donna. They are in such large clumps that it takes muscle (haha) to break them apart in smaller groupings. This year, I found new locations and will see how that goes. I hope they do well because I like the idea of how they'll look.

A visitor enjoying breakfast

I was happy to get into shorts and a tee and get the darn hat off. It was very warm, just how we like it but I had to go into the shelter of the Bunky. Gibbs didn't seem bothered but when we came inside to change, he had 2 nestled in his long hair. Buggers!

Of all the bushes and trees,
this is the only one with pink blossoms.

I worked on the puzzle until noon and made another poached egg. I'm hooked on these but I only have one 'really good' egg left. 🤭 I went back to the puzzle and Gibbs was happy to stay indoors. He came out again before Bill got home around 1:30.

While waiting for Bill,
we braved the blackflies.

He still barks but 'sits and stays' well until the vehicle is parked - if I am persistent. It was around 2:30 that Mike drove in. He was slow, obviously waiting for the geese to cross. Good thing we have signs up at the road! Bill helped him get set up and went to the Acreage to get hin a bladder of water.

When Bill went to the Acreage
to get water for Mike's trailer,
Gibbs waited on 'his' hill to wait.

It's nice that he has a place to go on a weekend. We have an extra Amazon firestick that we give him when he comes so he'll be good for the night. I stayed inside after saying hello and worked on the puzzle. I didn't want to share this cold.

I planted dahlias in this new corner
that I created a few weeks ago.
I hope they grow, they'll look good here.

Seems I'm good for the morning and then late afternoon, I get worse. For supper, for lack of any bright ideas and  abition to make much, we had omelettes and toast. Bill was perfectly fine. Tomorrow, I'll pick up buns for burgers when I'm in to clean.

He has a perfect view of the laneway.

My waiting spot is at
the puzzle.

Cutting it short, we had a good day. The weather is perfect reaching a high of 27.22C/81F by 3 pm and we'll only drop to 17.22C/63F overnight. No duvet required!

Mr. B. Oriole comes
every day.

I hope our fellow Canadians are enjoying their long weekend too.

Supper, simple and good.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping in.
