More Rain Expected and Another Birthday

The Ridge

On Tuesday, June 9th we were both up for jobs first thing. Bill at his usual time, leaving the Ridge at 7 am for Listowel. I made my tea and headed out at 7:15. Gibbs remained home, in charge of the Suite. "Just give me my treat and go", is what I read in his look. Such a good little boy.

One of my favourite customers was sitting in a chair at the front waiting for his washer to finish. I used to be really good at remembering names but I can't even recall if I've asked his name. He is the little man who reminds me so much of Daddy. Not so much his chatter but his peacefulness and smile.

I have been finding a dime (.10¢) every day I've been in since I got home. Nice to know he is watching over me. 💕 Another customer came in and did her laundry as well. I found the Lost & Found box full again.

Indication that it was time to take care of it. It has been slowly building. I tossed everything in a washer (including a fitted sheet and a flannel top sheet) and while I washed the floors, sorted and dried the clothes before I left. Some items went in the 'drop off' bag and the rest went into the 'exchange' bag here in the Bunky.

It is a hot, humid day so when I got back home, I closed windows and turned the a/c on. I am so grateful that I got out yesterday and did the weeding, today would not be a good day for it. I did slip out with Gibbs long enough to move some of the 'new' garlic plants from Donna into another pot.

I don't eat that much garlic but it will be nice to have some available - if I can ever get it to take off! The first ones she gave me don't seem to like the rocky ground up there on the berm, but we'll see. Now that we'll be getting rains for a few days, I might see a change.

Inside we came and I quilled more of the coasters. Time for show and tell! What do you think? Yay or nay? I debated stringing some nice twine through the hole for hanging but doubt they would hang straight, defeating the purpose. They can't go outside, well, because it is paper. 🤷‍♀️

I got out my sewing machine to see about doing something with that skirt but decided to just keep some of the material for now. Maybe I'll come up with something. I took the elastic out of the short top that matched, maybe I'll wear that now. Another 'shrug'. I did stitch a pair of Bill's shorts that needed mending.

Looking out the window towards Dot's while quilling, I saw a Ryder rental truck at her place. They were dropping off a new green garbage bin. We heard about this transition Friday night from a chat with Kevin, our Mayor. We'll save on garbage tags but have a bunch paid for that won't be used.

Bill was home by 3:45, they had gone as far as they could today. He changed and proceeded to have his snooze with Gibbs.

For supper, it will be a 'made up' meal, involving meatballs, mac & cheese, beans.........he'll enjoy it and I'm sure I will too. 🤭 It's a fast, maybe not so healthy meal.

Madame IP did a good job and Google helped with suggestions for the meatballs and mac/cheese in one pot. Worked perfectly. I heated the beans separately on the stove. (and I ate too much)

We cleaned up, Bill made his lunch and relaxed for the evening. We reached 26.66C/80F again but with 79% humidity, it felt sticky.

No rain yet, although they said after 5 pm, storms moving in. The sky looks cloudy but not threatening in any way. Yet. This was a good day. We didn't get outside much at all today, it was quite warm. 

Inside, we enjoyed the coolness and just after supper, we opened windows since it was cooler outside than in. Below, I went out to shoo Chippy off the grape jam. It was a staring contest. Ever looked directly into the eyes of a little imp?

Today, is my step-daughter, Charlotte's birthday. So I made sure to pop her a greeting. I know Bill called her this morning.

Taking a Break to Earn Some Cash, Birthday Boy!

On Tuesday, Sept. 30th I woke up at 5:30 and rolled over to give my Sweetie a kiss before he got up. "Good morning and happy birthday". His turn to jump into another year of fun and adventure! 😉😄

He was up and ready for work, leaving shortly after 6:30. I had no where to be until 11 am, so made my tea and sat with Gibbs to play my online Wordle games. I've been on the hunt for the copy of our eye glass prescriptions for the last couple of days, as we both need to upgrade this year. Bill, especially. We can still get them checked down there. 

I took the opportunity to
slip up to the berm and see
the sun come up.

Before I knew it, I had to leave for Williamsford to clean the bnb for Robin, so will deal with it later. When I arrived at the house at 11:10, the guests had not left and were no where in sight other than a vehicle in the drive.

I drove past and texted, then called Robin. Hmm, did I miss something? She and Andrew were on a flight to Saskatchewan so wasn't able to answer. I drove around town before coming back to make it obvious that I was waiting......about 75' from the lane.

Finally, they moseyed out, 4 of them, and proceeded, very slowly, to put socks and shoes on at the vehicle, in and out, in and out..........finally pulling out at 11:35. I was perturbed, I don't do well with obvious rudeness. They left, and (no, I didn't squeal tires) I quickly pulled in. LOL

The house was left so-so but in and out with shoes on, had freshly cut grass throughout. Dishes in the drying rack, burnt saucepan, another one sticky with ?? and water all over the kitchen and bathroom counters. Anyway, I went to work and informed Robin. She likes to give reviews too.

and ta-dah!

By the time I finished cleaning and taking their bag of garbage out (they left it sitting on the kitchen floor with an empty bin outside the door), I locked up and left. With a quick message to M, who needed to go to town when I was able, I drove straight to his house.

That was a 2-stop hour, town was a zoo and he was longer in each store than usual. It was hot, sitting in the car, and that was mainly felt because we are usually there in the morning when the sun is at my back while I'm parked. Do I sound irritable? Well, not really, I earned $70. 💗

Back home, Gibbs was excited to see me and met me with Goat in his mouth. It was almost 3 so no point in going to the Bunky. Giving myself a break from that, I finished my J.E. book and made myself a cup of tea in my newly glued mug. Thanks, Dear.

Speaking of........today is Bill's special day. Not a special # but really, the older we get, all of them are special, aren't they? I hope he is having a good day at work. Today, they started at Port Elgin on a upper deck repair at ReMax's realty office. 

Of course, I made him
a card.

After an almost 'non-work-week' last week, he is anxious for some hours this one. 😉 I brought the burnt pot home from the bnb, boiled some baking soda and water in it and was able to scrub it clean. I'm happy about that, they are decent pots.

The birthday boy was home at 4:45, just after Gibbs went outside for a bit. I'm finding the winds cool today, maybe because we haven't had much wind over the last week. The sun is warm but it isn't making much difference to me. I need a hoody out there. (wimp)

We were low on water so since there is no rest for the wicked OR birthday boys, Bill drove to the Acreage within minutes of arriving home. My hero. 💖 Grilled bacon cheeseburgers for supper had him still 'at it' until we sat down to eat. Yummy.

I finally figured out how to put a dvd in to watch tonight, seems since we got Starlink, things became more complicated in that department. Anyway, I'm going to watch the only Janet Evanovich book that was made into a movie! I get to see who plays Morelli and Ranger.....Katherine Heigl will be fun as Stephanie Plum.

It was a good day. M called before supper and wished Bill a happy birthday and needed nothing else. That was nice! Ha ha. Yvonne and Marilynne called after supper too. We reached 22C/72F today which is pretty decent.

Turned into a Lovely Last Day, Happy Birthday!

 

The Ridge

On Wednesday, Apr. 30^th I was in the throes of dreamland when I heard Gibbs and Bill moving around. Bill was downstairs making his coffee when I noticed it was 7:10. Woops! I have a job to do this morning! I did my stretches before getting up and making the bed. If I don’t, I regret those early movements. 😊

Bill left first for work but it wasn’t long after that I took my tea and headed out too. It was shaping up to be a nice morning although very cold at only -2C/28F. I knew it could only get better, right? I pulled first into the Ultramar and fueled Ptooties up at $1.20/litre.

When I arrived at the Mat, I noticed the window had not yet been replaced (but I’m sure it was ordered) and the place was relatively respectable. Two customers came in while I cleaned and an hour later I had finished and was on my way home. With water now in our fresh water tank, I checked with M to see if he needed to run into town. When he declined, yay!, I hopped in the shower.

My lunch today was unique.
I am always searching for new keto recipes.
This one was delicious!

(Low carb tortilla, spread w/cream cheese, roll up,
cut in pieces, fry in butter, sprinkle with cinnamon
and sugar substitute of your choice).

That meant the rest of the morning was free. Bill was only working until 11:30 today as he had an eye appointment in Markdale, a few miles away. Cataracts are beginning and they want to see how quickly they are deteriorating. The good news is, no change since last September but we do need to consider a new pair of glasses for him. I drove home.

Back home, we relaxed for a bit before he took a propane tank into get it filled. That makes 5 empty 40-lbers since we returned home. Oh well, we were warm and quite comfy during some very cool mornings, days and evenings. 😊 We used our big electric infrared heater for a week or so too and yet were quite surprised with our low electric bill for the 3 weeks.

I won’t say that the cool weather is done, probably you won’t hear those words out of mouth (or fingers) for a long time! The sun was quite warm today and the wind was almost non-existent for our last day of April. For supper tonight, Bill grilled his bacon cheeseburgers and I chocked it up as 2 nights with carbs for me. The scales were good to me this morning so I’ll get back on track tomorrow.

Bill made his lunch as I wrote today’s post and at 8, we’ll be watching Survivor together. The farmers who own the fields all around us began working the ground up and soon planting seeds. Gibbs heard them before seeing them and was quite vocal when he went out with Bill. He needs to let us know, don’tcha know?

It turned into a pleasant day although other than putting the bird feeders out this morning, I wasn’t outside much. Could be a pretty sunset but you’ll see evidence in tomorrow’s post. We reached 11C/53F today and will only be dropping to 3C/38F overnight. That’s an improvement for sure.

Bill’s Day Seven at the Show, Family Birthday

On Friday, Jan. 24^th it was 6:45 when I got up and made the bed. Bill was downstairs emptying the dishwasher and getting his breakfast. I had decided that I wouldn’t be doing the 7:15 walk this morning, and notified Nancy. Bill works ½ day today so I took him for one reason or another. On the way back, after dropping him at 8:20, I stopped at Moon Mountain Mail to pick up my last parcel. 😊

Good morning!

Then a stop at Coyote Fresh for a few potatoes and my whipping cream. The price is ridiculous but it is anywhere and hard to find in Quartzsite. I popped next door to buy our 2% milk at Family Dollar and saved $1.50 right there. Made up for the cream price! Back home, I took Gibbs out for his walk and was so pleased with the beautiful day this was shaping up to be.

It was a lovely morning.

The winds died overnight and oh! Last night, I watched tv upstairs for a change and heard our travelling neighbour backing in at 10:15pm. That’s a no-no here, no entry after dark is the rule…………….well, Walt doesn’t play by the rules. If he wasn’t such a nice man (and often absent!), I would be quite ticked. It still isn’t right that he does that. He is a good ‘parker’ but still.

My view is blocked of the sunrise and that is the only negative for me, having him next door. 😊 We started our day at a cold 30F/-1C so I’m just as happy that I wasn’t out there at 7 o’clock! At least the overnight temps are warming up 10 degrees for the rest of the month. That’s an improvement and with the sun beaming down, the daytime high is pleasant enough.

Nancy and I met at 9:30 and went for a walk around the big block. What a gorgeous morning! I made a coffee and we walked over to start our next challenging puzzle. We worked away until noon hour. I had my second cinnamon bun for lunch, oh, Nancy, they are so good! ♥

Just before 1, Bill called that he was ready for me to pick him up. I gave Gibbs his treat and met Bill in an easy spot. Boy, that parking lot was still full to the brim, with only 3 days left of the show! Back home, he had his lunch and we relaxed together for a bit with our pooch. 😊

My bike bell arrived today.
We'll get Lila set up tomorrow. 😃

When Bill went upstairs for a nap, I took Gibbs for his walk and then sat and read quite a few chapters of my book. I walked to the puzzle around 3:30. Nancy and I added a few more pieces before calling it a day around 4:15. I missed my afternoon tea so was hungry for supper. Grilled sausages on a bun tonight with apple crisp for dessert.

Supper was delicious!

Those sausages hit the spot so we waited an hour before having the crisp. I could see out the west side window that a bit of a sky performance was taking place so I slipped into my shoes and nipped out for a picture. This was a good day, reaching 67F/19C and I met my step goal again after a couple of lax days. Tomorrow is a potluck day, soup and/or salad being the theme. I will be making mine in the morning.

Hold on to Your Hats and Puppy Dogs! Birthday Girl

On Wednesday, Jan. 8^th I woke up from another night of dreams. Strange but all good. I can’t remember any of them but I was awake at 5:45 and realized that I had about 14” of bed that I was stretched out on, facing my window. Hmm. I rolled onto my stomach and soon understood the situation. There was a puppy dog stretched from the middle of the bed to my back. As long as I was asleep, it didn’t matter but once awake, I needed room. 😊

Bill was comfortably asleep on his back taking up his full side of the bed and there was the sound of deep sleep so I didn’t want to disturb Gibbs and wake him up too early. I waited until 6:10 and moved. That woke them both up and I was able to stretch freely. Gibbs likes to be close to us, either one of us, so I wasn’t surprised that he was up between us with his head on the pillows. ♥

Of course, the little bum went right back to sleep after his morning outing and so did I, until 7. Bill said it was a mild 50F/10C so I decided to walk, despite the winds. I knew they would only increase throughout the day but when I took Gibbs out for a piddle first, it felt cold and the 4.5 mph winds were more than I’ve had all month. I wimped out and came inside for my tea instead. 😊

It is advised not to be out in the desert winds for too long and to be mindful of our pets as well, so I didn’t beat myself up about missing a day of walking. I stripped the bed and while Bill got ready for his day, took the sheets over to the laundry room. He had a day planned at an Tourism Expo in Parker at the casino. Their Quartzsite Desert Flyers were setting up a table with information and a couple of planes for the day.

This is where Bill and a few of the members were today.

I hung the sheets on the line to dry, the winds were from the north and the clothesline, which is on the southside of the clubhouse, would get sunshine but not the full brunt of any winds. There isn’t a lot of dust back there either so I would get the benefit of a fresh air dry this morning. I took Gibbs for his walk, and the sun was beginning to come out, making for a warm enough walk.

a booth at the big tent rv show! Free!

At 9, I took my mug over to join the Coffee Hour and there were 6 of us today. Because Jess and Jesse were still ‘contagious’ (her words), she wasn’t in attendance today. I know how much she loves Sue’s cupcakes so I brought 2 back with me and dropped them on their doorstep. 😊 They enjoyed them as I thought they might. At 10:30, my sheets were dry so I brought them back as well.

The chili was good and the
dessert was a lot of work for a bit of a letdown.

For lunch, I just had toast with peanut butter and jam. Separately, I’m not a mix-it-up kind of gal. No pbj for me. Then since I was baking this morning, and we left the power on, I switched to solar after everything was done cooking. I’d found a recipe for Cheesecake Bars that I wanted to try. I had lots of cream cheese to use up so this was perfect. Bill will be my guinea pig – again. Bless his heart. ♥

The winds have hovered between 8 mph to 19 mph with gusts as high as 23 mph. Really, they’ve been worse and were forecasted for worse but the week isn’t over yet. The sun and clear blue sky is making a world of difference in the temperature. It is 1 pm and 66F/17C, no beef there! 😊 I played my Wordle games and because I had no shelter from the wind beside the Suite, I went out with my book and sat behind the Weber for about 45 minutes.

The sun was nice and it wasn’t cold but sitting beside the flopping gazebo was too much. Gibbs and I went for his walk around 2:30, I had my neck wrap which I pulled over my mouth and nose when the wind blew strong. It was a short walk, Gibbs didn’t much care for walking into the wind either. I came in and made my tea, deciding that I didn’t want to read the book I had started. Not my kind of story.

She enjoyed showing us all her
play makeup. Lots of lip gloss!

Bill was home from Parker, after a full day, around 4 pm and caught me up on his news. For supper, we had leftover chili with toast and tried the squares I made for dessert. Hmm, so-so. Not keen on the crust so we may eat the top layer only. 😊 The sky is still clear and we reached a high of 65F/18C, so quite nice.

And because she takes gymnastics,
she wanted to show us some moves.

After clean up, I downloaded some pictures Bill took of our little birthday girl during a Facetime chat. Hadley Rose is 4 today and just the cutest! She had to show us some of her gymnastics moves as well and she is quite flexible. ♥ This has been a quiet day but a good one. One more day of wind and a few cool days and cooler nights.
