Day Trip with NO Worries about our Baby

On Friday, Feb. 23^rd we had plans to take a drive to Yuma to meet friends for lunch and do a bit of shopping. We had word that Black Beauty was fine for the trip and we had made arrangements with Gibbs’ buddy to tend to him. 😊 If you have a dog, you know that this means the world to have someone look after him/her. It’s a precious gift wrapped in the friendship.

Good morning!

So, we were up by 7 and did our normal ‘getting ready’ routine without making it obvious to Gibbs that we were going anywhere. He is very keen on things like that, as all of them are. I took him for his walk around 8:30 after my morning tea and Bill moved the ‘wings’ out of the back seat. We pulled out at 10 and it although it was cloudy, it was a warm drive. The temperature would reach 76F/23C here and a few degrees warmer in Yuma. We wore shorts and sandals.

It was a good drive, we haven’t been this way in a while. Interesting to see the grass in the desert and the brilliant green of the Ocotillo cacti. We know we’re close when we reach the Yuma Proving Grounds and the cannons. 😊 The vegetation and hard field workers are busy as we drive by, busy before the sun gets too hot. By then, we were seeing more blue sky than clouds. We drove directly to Lin’s Chinese Buffet, arriving at 11:20.

Lori, Roland, Judy and Oscar were already inside in the line, coming from Holtville Hot Springs, CA. It is always great to get visits with Lori and Roland but today we were lucky enough to get another visit with their parents. It has been quite a few years, maybe 5?, since we’ve seen them last. ♥ Both are looking great and Judy and I had nice chats across the table from each other, catching up. We won’t see them again as they are leaving in a week, their ‘vacation’ visit with the kids will be over.

Fingers crossed, we’ll get to see the ‘kids’ before we/they leave the area. The food was great, lots of choices and I managed to stick to mostly Chinese fare this time. I was not over-stuffed when we left 2 ½ hours later. The price at Lin’s is excellent for their lunch buffet, $12.99 (only up $1 from our last visit 5+ years ago) and as seniors we received 10% discounts. 😊

Bill and I then drove to Fry’s Grocery where we stocked up on Keto seeded bread, Gibbs’ cookies and diet cranberry juice. Next, it was Sam’s Club for dog food in the ‘I’ll last for a long time’ bag, dishwasher pods, milkbone treats and DEF fluid. We took the time to pop into Hobby Lobby but only to price a few model cars for family back home and then we hit the road. It was 3 pm and we were home by 4:30 where we were met by a happy pooch.

We had received a couple of cute pictures of our little guy, with the note that he was fine so it was a very relaxing day. ♥ Of course, we wouldn’t need supper but did have a snack later on. They say that about Chinese food, don’t they? 😊 

Home again

It was a quiet evening but I wasn’t into blog writing, instead I found a good movie to watch until 10 o’clock. What a great day!

Day Trip! Visiting a Dear Friend

On Wednesday, Dec. 20^th every Canadian is happy. Yes, government pension time. 😊 It isn’t all about the money, no, but it sure helps us pay the bills and enables us to do what we want to do – this lifestyle, for one. We decided yesterday that we would try and get out of here at a decent hour this morning and head to Lake Havasu City for some shopping and some visiting.

This morning in our park

We communicated with our friend, Keith, who is diligently making his way down here to Arizona. Yay! We’re so happy that he chose to come back again and sooner than we first expected. 😊 Gibbs and I went for a walk after Bill got the pensions moved around with some $$ transferred down here to our American account. It was again in a different direction but I followed his lead.

Around 10, we all hopped in the truck, Gibbs adorned in his thunder jacket in the hopes it would help to calm him. Well, it didn’t work perfectly but I think it helped somewhat. This is a beautiful drive, through Parker and those mountains with golf courses on both sides. We like Lake Havasu but don’t have a need to stay here anymore. We spruced Black Beauty up with a wash, not the best ‘diy’ one but she looks much improved.

Then a stop at Hobby Lobby, Bill went in and got what he needed and I stayed with Gibbs. My turn was down to the .99¢ Store for a few things of my own. It was around 12:30 and we were hungry enough to stop at the In ‘n Out Burger for a take out order. We had Combo #2, cheeseburger, fries and root beer and ate in the truck with our little guy. He got one of his own treats. 😊

We drove back to Rose and George’s on Palo Verde Drive to find only Rose home. George and Gigi were out at an appointment and some shopping but we had a nice visit. Gibbs took to Rose like a bee to a rose, my goodness, he just loved sitting, laying, sleeping on her lap! ♥ Of course, she didn’t mind the little love bug’s cuddles at all. Around 2:30, we said our goodbyes and wished her well on a trip she has planned tomorrow.

We made a stop at the Walmart in Parker where Bill stayed in the truck with Gibbs and I filled the cart with the food items on my list. It seemed like I was in there forever but I’m not sure. I think it was close to 4:30 when we returned home. We won’t need supper tonight other than something minimal. Maybe a snack, we’ll see.

This was a good day and after we settled, we watched the last episode of The Voice finale. Bill dozed and I wrote my blog post while the hour of recaps was on. We hate when they do that! I hope you’ve had a great day.

Between here, Quartzsite, and there, Lake Havasu City, temperatures reached 77 & 81F/25 & 27C and even though it isn’t going to last, we are still happy campers. 😊

Time to Move On

Friday in Eagle’s Landing was an awesome day. We had decided to stay another night in this great park so we could really get some relaxing in before hitting the road again.

Someone is ready for Hallowe'en!

We enjoyed the area of Grove, Oklahoma

I have to admit we were really enjoying being hooked up to hydro, water and sewer.

The only thing on our list of things to do was to go into Grove to the post office and buy stamps for our post cards. Having already completed a couple of walks around the park and testing the water in the pool, what more to do but don my swimsuit and go for a bit of sunbathing.

Yes, the water was cold although the outside temperature was beautiful. I think it was around 80F and the water a cool 68F maybe. I stretched out on the lounge chair for about 30 minutes before getting hot enough to take a dip. It was indeed just a dip but I managed to swim a couple of short laps and go back to my place in the sun. It was ideal, I was the master of the whole area, not a soul in sight. I even tested the elliptical and electric bike in the exercise room before heading back to camp.

We had bbq’d steak and a potato for supper and retired inside for the night. I think we were semi-packed up and in bed by 9:30 pm. That is Central time an hour earlier than we are used to back home. We knew we wanted to get moving as early as possible.

Saturday morning, we were up and on our way, out of the park by 8:30 am. It proved to be another gorgeous day for driving.

Today we wanted to head towards Oklahoma City, without actually going through it and all the turnpikes, and end up at a Walmart Super Centre close to Elk City, OK.

Much wilder than the pool I was in yesterday

This was a cool drive, seeing things I’ve not seen before. That is what it is all about and I’m loving it. We travelled on a very winding 2 lane road, Alt 412, to avoid the toll roads, from US 59. 

This was a great ride and even though Bill had to be on his toes he loved it as well. We’ll do it again in a heartbeat.

We drove through Yukon, Ok which is, apparently Garth Brooks' home town, I didn't know that! 

and past Choctaw Road……………you know, where Billie Joe jumped off the Tallahachi bridge? 

Anyway, even though I know the Tallahachie bridge is/was in Mississippi, that is the song that continued going through my head after seeing that sign.

We travelled alongside the historic Route 66 and promised to drive on it soon.

With a few pit stops, some for pits (?) and some for fuel and lunch, we made it to our destination by 4 pm. We are set up nicely, fed the pooch, grabbed a bite to eat and settled in to write our posts. It is warm, quite warm at 84F so have all of the windows open in the Suite. There is a nice breeze blowing through
