Let’s Do It Again!

Winterhaven, CA

Tuesday, Feb. 4^th it was almost a repeat of yesterday. The temperature drop was about the only thing different. It was a chilly 43F when I headed out for my walk around 7:30. Can you say ‘brisk’? It felt good though, I know there is no snow on the ground to slush through and no ice. The winds were 6 mph but I was bundled with a neck scarf and my hoody up over my ball cap. I’d washed and put my face on before coming downstairs so I was almost ready for our adventure today.

Today, was another trip back to Los Algodones for Bill’s next and last appointment. This time, we will be five. Kim and Ken are joining us this trip so that will be fun too. We each had some cereal, brushed our teeth and were out the door by 8:30. I opted to wear my long heavy coat this morning because of the coolness.

We parted ways with Bill and he went to see Dr. Hernandez and the rest of us wandered. I was on another mission for more goodies and so was Kim. We had fun! Even Keith walked away with things ‘he doesn’t need’. 😊

When it was close to 10, we walked back to see if Bill was done and sat outside in the sunshine. One of the best parts of the day was when Bill walked out of the endodontist’s office. He told us that he didn’t need a crown on the new root canal tooth. Yippee! That means a savings of $300 for us.

I did a little jig and we all decided to go to the Yellow Courtyard (we don’t know the name of it) for lunch since it was almost 12 o’clock. We got a table in the sun and soon warmed up, being protected from the wind.

Omelette with Ham, rice and beans

After we finished our omelettes, mine with ham and Bill’s with bacon, I walked over to the salon and got a 2" trim. Ken joined me at the same salon but he wasn’t pleased with what the barber did to his hair. I was pleased with the gal I had and gladly paid her $6 fee plus a tip. It felt better and I’m sure looks much neater too. My only requirement was that it was long enough for a ponytail and that turns out to be the case.

We made our way back through the vendors and lastly said goodbye to Andy, our ‘greeter’. No problem at the border, as usual, after about 40 minutes in line and we walked back to Black Beauty together. We were home lickety-split and Ken and Kim invited me along for their trip into Yuma’s Goodwill store. Today is senior’s day so I was game to go. They picked me up soon after and Kim and I perused the dvd’s, books and kitchen ware. I found a package of Magic Bullet accessories and knew that I would use the larger 2 (3?) cup sized container. Miami Vice? 😊

We had invited the gang back for an indoor Happy Hour again because of the wind and I told Keith that Oreo was welcome. She had a harder time settling down today but likely because she’d been alone all morning. Understandable. Eventually, she let Keith know that she wanted to go outside and she was calmer, tied to the truck bumper. This was quite a conversation, from antique and vintage sales, to old sayings we learned from our Dad’s to former work-day grief. We’re all grateful to be retired.

They left around 5:30 for supper, although most agreed it would be a small meal. Bill and I will be having leftover chili on toast. I may skip the toast but I may not. Bill discovered that because of the State of the Union on tv tonight, none of our programs are new tonight. That’s okay, I have a blog to finish and we have a few recorded shows to watch.

This day was another busy one but I wouldn’t change it for the world. A little more warmth is on its way tomorrow. Have a good night!

Mexico for Dentist and Shopping, Surprise Call at Happy Hour

On Monday, Feb. 3^rd we were making an appearance downstairs at 6:30. With another batch of shingles that appeared late yesterday afternoon, I was slow moving this morning. First full day is painful but I applied my cream, took a pill and I left Bill at home and went out for a brisk walk. Don’t focus on it, I tell myself, and it isn’t such a big deal.

We left the house around 8:30 after getting cleaned up for the day. The weather people got it right when they forecast cooler weather. It has arrived and after sleeping through with no heat last night, Bill had turned our heat pump up enough to take the chill off the Suite. It was 57F outside and 64F inside. The problem was the wind. It was gusting between 14 – 20 mph. and we were happy to have chosen our jackets before we left home.

Today, we drove to pick Keith up and headed to Los Algodones for Bill’s 9 o’clock dental appointment. The endodontist was finishing his root canal now that the abscessed area had healed. Keith and I left him in the waiting room and we walked around the vendors. It was cool out there and every so often the gusts of wind would have me closing my eyes, even behind my glasses, to prevent the sand from getting in.

I had a mission and with Keith’s help, I was successful in getting grandchildren’s gifts before we headed back to meet up with Bill. His appointment was delayed by a surgery that Dr. Hernandez had to tend to prior to 9 am but other than that, Bill came out smiling and happy with the results. He will be going back tomorrow for a root canal on the tooth right beside it. Not something I envy at all. Keith and I are prepared to wander the streets again and I appreciate the company while we wait.

Back in Arizona, we went to Sam’s Club for coffee, bacon and a couple of other items and then to Hobby Lobby so Bill could pick up the paint he needs to finish his model car. While in there, I checked out the wool, 30% off, and came out with 3 balls for a new project. When we returned home, we were famished and tired out. I’d already managed to meet my steps requirement for the day and it was only 12:30!

I made us sausages and eggs for lunch and I had mine in a wrap. Ooh, that was good! We dozed in our chairs, one of us better than the other (teehee) and read our books while listening to the wind howl. At 3, I texted Kim to see if there was any interest in getting together and of course, she said yes. With the cooler air and uncomfortable winds, we were invited inside their Journey. I texted Keith and extended the invite to him as well.

Once we assembled in the coach, we called Suzie (at her request). Putting her on speaker, we all said hello and had a wonderful conversation. Her main message was that we don’t have to worry, she is doing fine. It was great to hear her uplifting voice as she moves on with her life.

We probably overstayed our welcome (again) but Kim and Ken didn’t seem to mind.

It was after 5:30 when we all said goodnight, parted ways and returned home for supper. I reheated our roast beef, gravy, veggies, the last potato and put some salad out. It was a filling meal and tasted very good. I love the gravy flavor! When dishes were done, I sat with this post and Bill sat to watch America’s Got Talent.

We don’t always agree with the judge’s choices, but it is entertaining and now that they are down to 6 contestants, something we don’t want to miss. Bull was on next and we watched it together. This has been a full day and we have enjoyed every bit of it. I hope your day was great too.
