I'm Not Sure what Season This is!

The Ridge

On Saturday, May 31st we were up and moving by 7. I was last to crawl out of bed. I'm really having doubts that this is the last day of a spring month. Seems more like the beginning according to the weather. We keep saying 'we have 2 more cool days and then we're good'. Ha! I'm saying it again though. Once we get through today and tomorrow, we are GOOD! 😄

Good morning!
Last night's pre-sunset.

It was dull, cold, windy and damp and obvious to Bill and the boys that they were not flying this morning. Too bad, with only 2 days on a weekend. Hopefully tomorrow, even though cold again, they can at least get together for coffee. They all enjoy each other's company. I only had a 9:30 commitment so took my time getting moving. Bill dressed for winter (almost!) and hopped on the mower to cut the front field.

Bill had his peanut butter and cheese sandwich
I had my cream cheese, cinnamon tortilla wraps. Yum!

I left for M's to see what another 2 hours would do for his tenant. Brian hadn't arrived yet so Julie and I had a talk before I even started. Since I didn't get paid yesterday, I asked her if she had cash to pay us before we even started. She did and after a bit of discussion, her saying it shouldn't be up to her to pay us, blah blah, she said she had a lady friend coming to help and she didn't need our help. 👍

It doesn't look bad out there
except for the temperature.

I couldn't grab my $40 fast enough and get out! No, not really. I wasn't rude, just shook her hand, wished her luck and left after saying goodbye to M. I hope she is out, with all her stuff, before this evening as the new tenant could be there early. M did call later and ask if I could clean for a couple of hours in the morning, if necessary. I said yes.

The grass is cut until the next time.
Right now, it is twice a week.

Bill was still in the front field, since I'd only been gone about 15 minutes and it had started to spit lightly. I cleaned up the cut branches from yesterday so he could cut in that area too before doing our 'lawn' in front of the patio. Except for a few small areas that I can do with my mower, the Ridge is cut.

Gibbs is happy

Mom is happy and
we know Dad is happy too!

The sun made a few appearances this afternoon and Bill worked away down at the Hangar. Gibbs was in and out but mostly inside. So was I. I felt some soreness this morning after crawling around on the ground cutting branches yesterday so was grateful to relax today. You know what I did, I'm sure. More quilling and loving every minute! 😍

Supper was delicious!
Funny how I love the chops now with
a coating on them.

For supper, we had baked pork chops, baked fingerling potatoes and our vegetable. There were strawberries for dessert so I had mine with cream, as usual. That was another Sunday night meal on a Saturday. We cleaned up the few dishes and since I had Youtube music videos on all afternoon, we watched one of the BeeGees that we love so much we have the dvd of it.

Fresh strawberries and cream

This has been a great day, weather aside. The relaxing day was good for me, any pain I felt this morning, subsided before lunch. 💘 We won't go there other than to say it will be another cool night. We only reached 11C/52F today and dropping to 3C/37F overnight. I hope your weekend has started off okay too.

Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

Holy Making Money Day! 😀

The Ridge

On Friday (TGIF), May 30th I woke up from a great sleep but it was only 4:30. Thankfully, Gibbs moved but snuggled right up alongside me and we went back to sleep. Not sure what woke me, a dream maybe. Bill's alarm went off at 5:30 and although I had my earplugs in, it was still a distraction from slumber.

Good morning!
Last night's sunset and
this morning's effort.

I never mind being woken up by his alarm. In some ways, I am grateful to know I have another hour or so. In other ways, I am grateful for a man who is so willing to get up and go to work EVERY day to help us have a more comfortable style of living. 💕 That was my thought this morning as he dressed and took Gibbs out before getting himself ready. I am so blessed with Bill in my life.

This is us, living that life.

When he was done in the bathroom, I got up for that goodbye kiss and began getting myself ready for my day. I took the chair quilts (I still call them Nancy's quilts in my head 😉) into the Mat along with another of M's comforters. He says he is spring cleaning. LOL The laundromat has been empty for the last 3 visits, including today, yay!

My pictures are ahead of my words but
you should be used to that by now! 😀
I didn't have to stop at Robin's before going to the bnb
so took the back roads. It was a nice drive.

I took an hour to clean and another half hour to wait for his comforter as well as a full washer of abandoned clothes. Crazy! They were so crammed in the machine that they still smelled and being damp they were worse. I split them into 2 washers, and then dried and folded them. They will sit in the box to see if someone claims them.

These are the flowers I picked up
for Robin. Pretty enough, but not tulips
as she'd hoped.

I left there and drove to Foodland to see if there were any packing boxes for the taking and at Robin's request, picked up a small bouquet of fresh flowers for Williamsford. Back home to Gibbs for half hour of running around outside. 😍 He's such a happy little guy even when I have to leave him.

All is well, Mom. I got this.

At 9:30, I left to clean the Air bnb, arriving at 10. Robin kindly pays from the time I leave home until I'm done cleaning. She's a great boss. It took an hour and a half to clean, although the 3 workers left it pretty good. Stripping and making up 3 beds, doing laundry (washing, drying, folding) takes a bit of time as well as restocking and sweeping floors. There are 5 guests coming in tonight for 2 nights.

Time for another walk through
the Williamsford bnb.
3 bedrooms, tastefully decorated.
Simple but quaint.

Back home by noon and Gibbs went out and promptly sat on the steps, checking things out. It is a lovely day! I had liver, tomatoes and olives for lunch and that filled me. Then Gibbs and I went out to clip branches off our small trees. Goose the Spruce, the 3 on hill behind the Suite and then I went along the hill out front right down to the laneway. 😲😓

She knows what she wants and goes
out and gets it.

The black flies are still around, the little buggers, so after getting all sweaty with the brush, we didn't sit out too long. Just long enough to cool off. Someone suggested apple cider vinegar and sea salt in a jar beside you would repel them. Ha, well, not so much unless I held the jar right in front of my chest and I could still see them right in front of my face.

Kitchen and living room

I got washed all over again and at 1:55, drove over to M's. This time it was to help his tenant get packed up. She has hurt her foot and is limping around, complaining that she can't do it herself. Oh brother, he sure gets some deadbeats. She has known she has to be out tomorrow night for 2 months now and still hasn't started. M asked Brian and I if we would lend a hand.

Stairwell off the living room
Now, that you've seen the lovely,
sit down............

Sure thing, for cash in the hand we will. Remember I said 'deadbeat'....we'll see how that cash thing goes. Well, I walked in and almost turned around and walked out again. After 2 hours, I think I can honestly label her a hoarder. I've never seen anything like it and now I know it is an illness, I feel bad for the original name. Kind of. She still could have been helping herself this past month.

I walked into this in the living room.
If I hadn't taken the picture, I wouldn't know which was
was up. It wasn't 'dirty', just cluttered.
Overwhelmingly so.
I didn't know where or how to start.

In 2 hours, it seems like we didn't make a dent but I know we did. There was no rhyme or reason on how to pack and I'm a great packer! Some stuff was to go into storage and some into the Class C motor home. She decided unless we could slip something by her that we knew she'd never use on a day-to-day basis. Anyway, it was one of the most frustrating things I've ever done. No cash today so fingers crossed that our 2 hours tomorrow morning will produce some. 😒

This is the motor home.
She told us what to put in here and we
had no choice to just keep piling it in. 😞😞

She didn't seem concerned at all
with how this looked and that indicated
to me that this is how she lives, no
matter where she stays. Sad.

I tried sitting out with Gibbs again with no comfort so when Bill came home at 5, we came inside. He headed out immediately to go get propane before Co-op closed at 5:30. This will make 8 tanks we've gone through since we've come home. It's been an expensive spring. For supper, I was almost too tired, sore etc. to cook so suggested toasted bacon and cheese sandwiches. It was accepted easily. 💕

But this little muffin, was a bright spot.
Although I felt sad for her confusion too.
This is 'Tina Turnin' because she dances
for treats. Sweet little thing.

After clean up, Bill went to load his cargo trailer for flying and fix something minor before morning. I worked on my blog and crashed i my chair. It has been a good day, really, minus the 2 hours, but when you are asked to help a friend (and get another dud tenant out) you do your best. I hope Brian and I see some reward at the end of this. I also hope she has everything packed so it can at least be moved outside (under cover) before the new tenant arrives at 8 am on Sunday!

This was yummy and a perfect quick
meal after a busy day.

The day, as far as weather, as been quite pleasant. It cooled off tonight before supper but, other than 10 drops that brought Gibbs inside, no rain yet. Should be a half decent weekend and I have some branches to clean up tomorrow after lunch, if it is dry. I've had a productive day, earning cash at 3 jobs. Gotta like that.

Something was happening there
under the clouds so I kept watch.
You'll have to wait until tomorrow
for that show.

We reached a mild 21C/69F but going down to a chilly 5C/41F again. Two more nights like that and maybe, just maybe we'll be in the clear.

Well, it appears that the 'missus' sent her man
to check out my feeder. This is his first visit.
Good night!

Thank you for your visit, happy weekend!

They Weren't Wrong, Storms all Around Us?

The Ridge

On Thursday, May 29th I saw Bill off with a kiss at 6:30 and crawled back into bed until 7:30. Why get up that early when i don't have to, right? I had my tea and debated about a shower but just washed instead. Gibbs and I walked about to check plants, they look like they are standing taller, and put in time.

The rain was doing wonders and my Swiss
Chard seemed to be standing up after the critter
dug it up. The sprouts were also stretching. 😆

I bought a set of hand grips for Lila as the others are falling apart so went to put them on. I'm going to have to cut these shorter but they will be good, for $1.50. Ha! We came inside and I made a coffee to take with me for M's run into town. Yesterday was too early (he had to be home at 10) to get his beer so today will get that and groceries. 😉

One of my commenters mentioned
how green everything looks on a dull
day. I can't deny that things sure
are greening up!

It pretty much takes us an hour, of which I usually just sit in the car and wait. Today, I took the opportunity to run into Foodland with him and got - you guessed it - toothpicks! Plus a loaf of the Carbonaut 9 gr/slice bread. It is expensive but I want to eat bread and this is the cost for that desire. There is so much other stuff we buy that I don't partake in so it balances out.

Back home, although it had been spitting on and off for the whole drive, it had stopped. That meant Gibbs' run out to piddle was extended by the security duty, sitting on the porch steps. The winds are pretty minimal today which makes it an okay day. I think we only reached 15C/58F but it felt quite mild. 😊

I'm happy to see my Moonflowers
in this garden are starting.
I separated 30 plants last fall to take to my
sisters so this was a relief!

I started a new book called Shadow Creek by Joy Fielding but I'm not sure if it will turn my crank. The prologue was a bit of a shocker and yet somehow not a surprise. We'll see. At noon, I made a tasty ham, cheese and lettuce sandwich on my seeded bread. That bread is so fresh and I am so pleased with it. I bought the plain white today so I hope it is as good.

Gibbs and I walked to get the mail.
There was just the local paper
but it was worth the walk.
Bill and I do the crossword and scramble in it.
Look at those clouds.

After lunch, I got my quilling out. When it warms up, I'll get out in the She-shed and start a puzzle but I want it to be nice enough for Gibbs to be out and about too. No point in starting one until it is comfortable for both of us to be out. I worked away until Bill called that he was on his way home and was going straight to the Acreage for water. I actually remembered that this morning, although I often forget his plans. 😗

Waiting at the gate for me.
He is such a good little guy. 💕

He was home by 6 and I started supper while he transferred it into the Suite's tank. The sky all around us (and over us) is filled with heavy black/dark gray clouds. Someone is either getting dumped on or about to have that happen. We'll likely get it overnight to make way for a partial cloudy/sunny day.

My short irises at the outhouse
and the Bunky/She-shed
are such a beautiful dark purple.

Temperatures still have not settled, a few days in the mid-teens (50's), overnights around single digits (low 40's) and then we get a warm up this coming week. Rosy, our air fryer, cooked the sausages for us and I nuked my pepper squash. Bill had his in a bun, which looked very good but I've been 'under the wagon' (I didn't just fall off!) for a few days so need to smarten up. 😉I cut strawberries for dessert, still a natural sweetness but better than ice cream! 💖

These pictures take you all around us.
North, south, east.

Thank you, Nancy, for your chat about my Microsoft issue but I do think I'll abandon it for now and take it to Adam at Healthy Computers when I can. I'm typing directly into my blog now and that seems fine. Our supper was very good, with strawberries and cream for dessert, and while eating it we watched the finale of The Floor. Very happy with the result. 👏

Sausage, squash and pickles

The rain has been off and on since Bill got back with the water, the sun came out and disappeared again behind heavy clouds. There was talk about seeing some of the Northern Lights after sunset but I'm sure that isn't going to happen. This was a good day, regardless of weather and tomorrow is going to be a pretty busy one to end the week. Cha-ching!

On this note, I'll say goodnight and
keep watching for those lights!
Good night!

Thank you for your pop in today.

A Whirlwind Day

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 28th I was on a roll from the minute I got out of bed at 6:30. Bill was getting ready to leave for work and after a kiss, and a cuddle, he was off. That statement reminded me of a picture that came across my Facebook page.

Luckily, Gibbs doesn't shed.
Good morning!

I wasn't far behind Bill to go out the door, and arrived at the Mat at 7:05. At least Sandy has reset the timer that had me arriving in the dark for the past 3 mornings of work. After a power outage last week, a breaker seemed to be tripped but turns out it was the timer that was off.

Last night's sunset was quite pretty
even without clouds.

It was a bigger clean today, mainly because I needed to pick M up on my way back to take him in to town for some quick errands. I would be too early so took my time with some 'extras'. I wiped the difficult to reach cupboard tops behind the washers, washed the windows, door jambs, things like that. It was 8:30 when I texted him I was on my way.

This is the morning sun as I
get ready to pull out of the laneway.

He was scatterbrained today, had changed his original plans up and that makes him a challenge to communicate with. LOL He's a nice enough guy with a good heart but he is also a pain in the you know what some days. Asks advice and doesn't take it, then complains about it.......that kind of guy. He's a friend and he pays me, usually, on time so I put up with him.

As I was on my way to Hanover
these 2 guys were grading our road
again. Hopefully, a better job than last time.

We were back home at 9:45 giving me a few minutes to go outside with Gibbs and let him get some fresh air. Then at 10:05, I left with what seemed to be a long list of groceries and other things. Going to Hanover is a once a month thing so when I go, I like to stop at some of my favourite stores – just because I can.😁

There are things I want to look for at the Dollarama and Giant Tiger and I was also looking for a lilac tree that is going to go in our little garden and scent up our life! We had a beautiful dark purple lilac bush at our sticks and bricks home in London. People who walked by often asked for clippings. Sadly, it is still there. At least we hope it is!

So, I priced a tree.

Here are my stops, a bit chaotic but all with purpose.

Canadian Tire (to price the trees & hanging flower pots),

Dollarama (clogs for Bill, quilling supplies eg. small google eyes & Origami sheets, bicycle grips, garden pruners and plant clips),

Giant Tiger (a pair of semi-dressy black pants for me {I seem to have given all of mine to our exchanges for some reason!}a red shirt for Bill to wear on Canada Day, some food items),

Independent Grocers (food items that I can't get at Walmart),

Canadian Tire (again, where I bought my lilac bush),

Walmart (the long list of remaining groceries not previously bought at the other stores),

Canadian Tire (again, I forgot Lysol cleaner at Walmart and was not going back into that busy store!),

It was 1:20 and I hadn't had
lunch so.....
What would you do for a Klondike bar?
It hit the spot and was so tasty.

This is when I realized I forgot toothpicks but was NOT going anywhere else and headed for home. You know how you skim past items on a list and then get distracted? Yup, happened to me. I dropped M's 3 items off and came home to unload. It was 2:15. I made a tea and began finding room for everything. I'm very glad we have the Bunky freezer and fridge for the overflow!

The Garden Centre at Canadian Tire
had a nice variety to choose from.
I may buy my hanging planters there too.
The road home, all graded.

I was quite pleased with the end result. All the meat I bought, about 25 meals at least, not counting leftovers, plus everything else tallied up to $285. We are stocked up good. Even Gibbs got some new dog cookies! He has had one and they are puppy approved.

I hate to wait for the perfect moment
for this shot. Aren't they adorable?

He was home at 5:30 and needed to relax after a full day of work. We've had a pleasant but windy day today. 18C/65F and they've been calling for rain all afternoon. The sky has been cloudy since before noon and other than a few spits on my clean windows, nothing yet. The radar shows quite a bit this evening and through the night so the plants we've all planted should get a good soaking.

I'll never tire of this view. 💖

I need a computer tekky! I bought Microsoft Office when I got my new laptop and that enabled me to use Word to write my blogs. All was well until I started getting a notice 3 days ago about my 'product not being activated'. I'm afraid of scams and getting direction from a non-human so did nothing but closed the pop-up. Now I have no access to the Microsoft documents. Where's my son when I need him?

Lots of meat, and a full freezer.

So, I'm back to writing in OpenOffice Writer, which came already installed on the laptop. It's not great but I'm working through it. So frustrating, this computer stuff! On the bright side, supper was easy. We finished the leftover lasagna and I fried some garlic bread. Using my sour dough bread, mmmm, it was good! (bad but good).

While Bill caught a cat nap,
and I began prepping supper,
Gibbs was lacking attention.
What a goof!😅😍

We cleaned up dishes, and Bill got caught up in his Quicken program on all my spending today. I could do it but I'd probably mess something up! The rain started just before Bill got home and will be an on again off again thing all night. This has been a busy day but a good one. I always feel so good when we have a full fridge and larder.

This was delicious!
Even my 'first-time' garlic bread
turned out great.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

Tea Tree Oil? Helping Robin

The Ridge

On Tuesday, May 27th Bill was up and gone just after 6:30. They were probably finishing the deck from yesterday and the weather was perfect for it! I rolled over after kissing him goodbye and slept with Gibbs until 7:30 before getting up.

Good morning!
Last night's sunset.

I had my tea sitting with him and as I sat here, I rewrote the grocery list for tomorrow. A trip to Walmart in Hanover was in the cards, we were running out of certain things – meat being one of those things. 😊 I didn’t have a lot on my plate today but I had a few things on the list.

There is a nice breeze under there
and out of the sun. 💖

I got a bucket of warm water and my Norwex window mop from the hall closet and we went outside. It was a lovely morning, no fog, no breeze and a moderate 8C/46F. The sky was clear blue and it was looking to be a great day again. I found out soon enough that the black flies were out there so decided to try Tea Tree Oil on my exposed skin.

Got a a couple of buckets emptied.
Just some signs to hang now.

I’m not sure if it worked like a charm or if they just weren’t out this morning between 9 and 11. I may not have smelled nice but they didn’t bother me the whole time I cleaned the windows on the north side of the Suite. 😊 Since I was in the mood, I cleaned the windows on Mike’s trailer too.

The birdfeeders will be for another
day.

I had to reapply the oil a couple of times but it seemed to be working a bit and that made me a happy camper, literally. I have not only been waiting for nice weather to plant but also to pull the bins out of the shed with all my garden fare. I set up what I could in the general vicinity of the She-Shed and left it at that. It was lunchtime .

Gave the Norwex wand a working out
today.

Liver and onions, Brie cheese and olives did the trick. I touched base with Robin as she had asked Bill and I for some help tonight. Once I knew it was still a plan, I messaged Bill who was already on his way home early. Even better! Before we left, I managed to get the rest of the windows on both trailers washed. I’ll know in the morning if there are streaks, when the sun shines through.

Crop difference in a week.
The rain is sure helping farmers!

We drove as far as her house around 2 and we hopped Andrew’s 4 x 4 GMC pickup. She needed to deliver and replace a stove in a tenant’s apartment in Wingham. Holy cow! Now I know why we don’t have a 4 x 4! Well, it didn’t help that Andrew doesn’t have running boards and Bill had to give me a boost a couple of times up into the seat. LOL 😊

I know, yum to some - yeuch to others.
😂

It is a 1-hour drive and I sat in the middle while Robin drove the single cab. She kept us entertained with stories of their bnb’s, rental properties and interesting tenants. M isn’t the only one who has troubles in that department! When we arrived at the 2-storey house, it has 3 apartments and the one we needed was upstairs. Oh boy, how many stairs?

Hard to see him but the
Grosbeak is so pretty when he visits.

It wasn’t as bad as all that with Bill pulling the dolly-laden stove from the top and Robin and I on the bottom, lifting for each of the 10 steps. Then we had to bring the other one down, which was a bit more of a challenge but still manageable with 3 of us.

They named their building

The funniest was when Robin discovered that none of her keys opened the apartment door and the tenant was nowhere close to home! She had to climb a ladder to the porch roof and crawl into the kitchen window which thankfully, on this hot day, was left open. She is entertaining to say the least. 😊

Sometimes, you just have to pull
a Reacher. (aka McGyver)

On the way home, she offered to buy us supper for helping so we all agreed on A & W in Hanover. The Uncle burger combo was everyone’s choice and we were stuffed when we travelled back to her house to get Ptooties. It was quite fun and we were happy to be able to help her out while Andrew is in Greenland on his job.

If I ever need a laugh, I'll come back to
this picture. She's a hoot!

She manages a lot on her own but occasionally needs assistance until he is home. I have a full day tomorrow so had to turn down her request for me to clean the air bnb in Williamsford. No worries, there will be lots of opportunities in the very near future.

We saw Dot and Gord outside next door so drove there to say hi but mostly for Bill to tease Dot about getting her riding mower stuck by the pond. He can honestly say ‘been there, done that – a few times!’ We chatted for a bit before returning home to our jealous little mutt. He could smell that we’d been near Caper and Remy.

Bill doing his best to cut around my
Bocce ball court.

Trigger, a young shepherd, doesn’t know us well enough yet so Gord was very watchful of his actions. Too bad because he is such a handsome dude! Back home, Bill hopped on the Cub Cadet and cut the berm and oh, I don’t know where else he went. 😊 This has been a good day and I feel exhausted. I’m not sure why, I feel so tired, I guess moving a stove and riding for 2 hours does it to me! We reached an awesome 23C/73F today but our cool days are done yet. LOL

He managed to get the berm and back field cut tonight.
Just in time for rain tomorrow?
Good night!

Thank you for your visit.
