Two Birthdays, Mother’s Day, On Strike!

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 11th I slept in. I think Bill and Gibbs did too, until about 6:30. I didn’t drag myself out until closer to 8. I had already decided that I was not going to do any ‘work’ today around here. Not that there was tons for me to do but even so, I was on strike. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Good morning!
Mother's Day gifts.
Tulip from the Lions Club.
Caladium a gift to myself.

It was a cool start to the day, 2C/36F, but the sun was brilliant and our hopes were high for some warmth. Bill went out after breakfast, with much the same thoughts in his mind. It wasn’t ‘his’ day but in a way, weekends are for him to do his thing. The Hangar still needed some straightening up and he has a plane to work on.

Chippy has a hole right at the edge of the mat.
He popped his head up and Gibbs chased him
back down. Oops!

Unfortunately, the black flies are still hanging on so that makes it a bit uncomfortable. It seems you can be outside for a while with nothing and then all of a sudden your head is surrounded by them. Drat! Just another week or so. I heard about apple cider vinegar and sea salt but don’t have that vinegar in the house.

Yes, I went back over for more rhubarb.
I can did it all up, the property is for sale,
but I can keep the plant alive and productive
by using the fruit!

I bagged 5 bags of
rhubarb for the freezer

We each started a fire in our pits and burned up some of the scrap wood. The wind was blowing the wrong way for the smoke to help in the bug department. Gibbs was out for much of the day and when I came inside, I got out my paper quilling stuff. This is a lovely day, we reached a high of 19C/67F and are only dropping to 7C/45F, so a wee improvement. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Lunch was a bacon and veggie filled quesadilla
These tortillas are great when fried,
not so tasty when raw.

Gibbs moved around the yard today.
He's lucky that the black flies don't
bother him!

For supper, we had the last of the meatloaf, Bill had fried potatoes and we each had our vegetable of choice. I’m still enjoying cauliflower in place of potatoes. We cleaned up the pots, set the dishwasher on and settled in for the night. American Idol is on at 8 pm and I’ll probably hit the hay soon after.

I enjoyed my fire when I was out.
Bill enjoyed working at the Hangar.
I like that squatty airplane. ๐Ÿ˜€

Today, is the official birthday of my ‘baby girl’. Bridgette has never been a disappointment, I’m sure we can all say that about our daughters but this one is mine and I’m bragging. ๐Ÿ˜Š She turned the big 5-0 today. Jess, my youngest step-daughter, is also celebrating her birthday in Alberta. Jess and I met when she was 5 and has held a special place in my heart ever since.

Supper was easy and good.

Happy Birthday (and Happy Mother’s Day) to both of these beautiful young ladies. Thank you for your visit!

One of my favourite pictures
with Bridgette and I in day's gone by.
Happy Birthday, Bridgette!

Happy Birthday, Jess.
Good night!

If the shoe fits, “Happy Mother’s Day!”

  2. Happy Birthday to Bridgette and Jess!
I wonder who was more surprised, Gibbs or Chippy?

  3. Happy Birthday to your two daughters. Gibbs could end up with a nip on his nose if he sticks it down the hole any further.
The one thing I do not miss about Ontario is the black flies.

    God bless.

    1. You are right, although I think Chippy was all the way across the property - underground!
