Wednesday Workout, Lions Club Meeting

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 14th I was awake at 6:15 but didn’t get up until 6:45, just before Bill was leaving for work. I got washed, dressed and skipped out at 7 to go clean the Mat. It was a cloudy day and although we got a bit of a dampening rain last evening, I don’t believe it rained overnight. Things look dry.

Good morning!
Last night's sunset.

I first stopped at the bank and w/d some cash and then filled our empty water jug. The Mat was in fair condition so didn’t take me long to do my job. I did have to test a machine that doesn’t seem to be spinning completely, there was a bit of water in it. No customers meant for a speedy job.

I remembered to take a picture
of my Trilliums,
Ontario's provincial flower

Surprisingly there are only 2 items in the Lost & Found box! Yay! I did finally toss the 10 individual socks into the garbage though. They’ve been there long enough, unclaimed. Back home, I filled Gibbs’ outside water dish, he seems to drink a lot when he’s outside and likes that dish. 😊

After doing exercises upstairs, I brushed Gibbs again. Oh, he loves to be brushed but just don’t pay too much attention to the knots in his long ears! Hopefully, tomorrow I can get him in the shower or sink for a bit of a bath. He won’t be groomed until late May or early June. Speaking of a shower, I had mine before 11.

We hopped in Ptooties and drove in to the vets for an 11:30 appointment. Not Gibbs’ favourite place. Now, he loves the girls and visa versa but the vet is the bad man who forces us to hold him in a tight grip while he (the bad man) pokes things in his ears and butt. I don’t blame the little guy for wanting to nip. His assistant put a small muzzle on him and it still took 2 of us to hold him still. 😊

Waiting at the vet's, he
was such a good boy.

It was vaccine time, a rabies shot, heart worm, flea and tick meds and a clean bill of health. $440 later, I’m taking a happy (gleeful, I’d say) puppy out of that place! He weighed in at an even 32 lbs. so that was less than I expected, but I’m happy about that. He is staying stable in that department.

We returned home and I had some crackers and cheese for lunch. Once more, at 1, I drove over to take M into town for his errands. Before I left home, I noticed that a couple of black flies found a spot to take nibbles yesterday, unbeknownst to me. I caught myself starting to scratch so took a couple of Benadryl caplets.

Ptooties got into town 4 times today

I didn’t think they caused drowsiness but boy, was I tired the whole time, waiting for M at each stop! When I got home, Gibbs and I went straight upstairs to lay down. It was 2:30. I woke at 3:15 and rolled over and dropped right off again. Bill got home at 4:15 and I was still in a stupor. Good grief! He laid down with us and thankfully before 5 I woke up feeling ‘awake’.

A delicious meal tonight.
That turkey was perfect and the gravy.....yum!

After his shower, we fed Gibbs and dressed for dinner out. Tonight was our ‘induction’ into – not the hall of fame, but the West Grey Lion’s Club. The first meal/meeting is on behalf of the club where we will be introduced to others, properly. 😊 I don’t like being the centre of attention so hope that part is brief and then we can just blend in. Ha ha.

A huge thank you from the
fire department for new parts.
A few Lion's members 'volunteered'
to transfer the items.

We left around 5:40 for the Durham Community Centre to meet everyone at 6. The meal was catered tonight by a local venue called Mama D’z Diner. I’ve read their breakfast/lunch menu (they’re only open until 3 pm daily) and Bill and I were going to plan a brunch one day. We were able to taste test tonight!

There were group photos for the
paper (or FB?).

Hot turkey sandwiches, mashed potatoes, string beans and gravy were on the menu. It was an interesting evening. The food was great and then the meeting progressed. I believe it to be a typical club-type meeting and it went as expected until 8:30 when we parted for the night.

A glimpse at their new truck too.

This was a great day and we reached a high of 21C/69F even though the sun didn’t make much of an appearance until 5:30. We are all pretty tired after a busy day. I did get a message that Robin needs me to clean for her on Friday.

Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

  1. Clubs are a great way to "meet the neighbors". Trust me ... just don't volunteer for anything!! LOL. I'm surprised Gibbs would try to bite ... he's such a good boy!! I feel your $$$ pain. It's crazy how much it costs us for our babies.

    1. Yes, but we will volunteer for some things. I know how to say no, not sure Bill does!
He is a good boy but don't mess with things he doesn't want messed with - and the vet is an odd duck.

  2. I’m so impressed by your drawings from yesterday! And congrats on joining the Lions. Here’s hoping your formal induction will improve your chances of chasing down that Ace! (Steph/London)

  3. You certainly have no problem keeping busy! Ouch, vet bills are always more than I expect.
The Lions Clubs do a lot of good work in the community, I'm sure you will enjoy being part of it.

  4. Good for you on joining the Lions Club. We have one here but it isn't as big as Rotary or Kinsmen/Kinettes.
Ouch that was a big vet bill, but at least Gibbs has all the shots he needs to stay nice and healthy.

    God bless.

We knew having a pet wouldn't be cheap but he is worth it. (thankfully)
