Last Poker Pool, Parker for Food Stuff

On Monday, Mar. 10th we were all up by 7. Bill prepared for the flying field, had his breakfast and made his to-go coffee, and was out the door by 8. He isn't flying anymore but he still enjoys the social time with his friends while they do. I did a few of my exercises and had my own cereal and tea. 

Good morning!

I was feeling pretty good so after a shower and getting dressed, Gibbs and I went for a walk. It was by 9:20 when I walked over with my cue stick to play my last game. 😒 Yes, I'm sad about that but it is time for us to prepare for our move. There were just 4 of us today but it was still fun. Sue had frozen the last 8 of her delicious cranberry orange cupcakes left from Wednesday's coffee hour and brought them today, in honour of my last day. Sweet of her!

The drive to Parker was uneventful

I know they didn't do it on purpose but I was the victor today, winning by a fair bit. 😃 Bill and I are booked into the park until April 1st but sometimes the Jell-o jiggles and plans change. We are pulling out on Sunday and moving to a membership park in Yuma until near the end of the month. It will be a trade-off, actually. Friends and games here for a pool and hot tub. Who knows? Maybe they play Pokeno there too! 

Overside load is an understatement

Bill and I had lunch when I returned and then took a drive to Walmart in Parker. Our food stock wasn't bad but we did need a few things and we wanted to take advantages of their better prices. Bill also had his plane radio to ship off for some repairs and they have a parcel depot there. There was a decent amount of traffic on the way to Parker but not so much as upon our return.

There was a slow down in the west bound lanes due to the transport of a very long cement barrier. With the assistance of police presence it had backed traffic up for quite a long distance. We were grateful to have gotten ahead of it when we did. For the remainder of our afternoon, we sat together outside in the shade. The temperature had reached a hot 84F/29C and the breeze on the patio was wonderful.

For supper, we had our special bacon cheeseburgers and finished the first package of the sweet kale salad. We've grown to really love that bagged side dish! NCIS and NCIS:Origins were reruns tonight but we watched NCIS and then caught up on some news. It is getting quite frustrating to hear all that may affect our return to Canada and then our fall return to the United States. All we can do, is carry on with our plans and deal with whatever we can.

A Win for Our Country, Heating up More, Some Food Stock up

On Friday, Feb. 21^st I didn’t hear a thing until 6:30. It must have been Gibbs jumping up on the bed after going out that woke me. Now, I know I slept well because I was still facing the same way as I was when I went to sleep at 10. 😊 I know there were dreams but it was a restful night. Last night, we streamed 2 episodes of Reacher and the excitement is right back. I love his character.

Bill was downstairs and informed me that the winds were low enough for flying this morning. March brings winds, even more frequent than we’ve had, so each day is a question about how many flights they can get in.  I made my tea and sat with Gibbs after he left around 8. We went for our walk but first I slipped into my new shoes. I can’t get over how comfortable they are and how the soles mould to my feet.

We walked the whole gamut of his short block, good job, Gibbs! It was warming up to be another scorcher of a day. Hot but not humid. The overnight low was 47F/8C which was decent. I did a bit of surfing online and some sister chatting. 😊 Bill and I planned a trip to Parker for just a few groceries and a stop at the parcel depot with inquiries about Fedex shipments. He has an engine to be shipped out next week.

Gibbs and I sat outside until Bill returned from the field around 10. I was ready so we put him indoors and headed out. It was a small grocery run for only a handful of things that we would need over the next week. Our plan is to go Yuma next week and can pick up more after our gov’t pensions go in on Wednesday. There is no where else we can get milk for $2.92/gal so along with cheese, creamer and eggs, we came out smiling.

The puzzle is coming along

We had lunch, just sandwiches today (I grabbed 2 more loaves of my Sola seeded bread ♥) and then I nipped over to work on the puzzle for an hour and a half. It is an interesting one and fun to search for the pieces. It shouldn’t take long to finish it. We all sat outside together when I returned and then Gibbs and I went for our walk around 4. Sheila and Callie were heading out too, so we all walked together. They got along perfectly, after the introductory butt sniffs, and we went around the park together. 😊

From feeling chilled in the shaded gazebo to a sunny walk, I came in feeling quite hot. Skip the tea and I poured myself another rye and ginger. I guess I will need to pick up more Zero Canada Dry. I make it a weak drink but tastes good that way for me and goes down easily.

Oh! The title of my blog is for a reason. I’m not big into hockey, never watch the regular seasons games BUT…………when I heard that Canada won the 4 Nations Championship last night, I had to check out the overtime that brought us the win. If you didn’t see it and are Canadian, here it is. ♥ It gave me goosebumps. Mike Marner from our home city of London made the assist to the winning goal and that is just sweet. Not sure which link shows it best but here is a second one. Yes, we're proud.

Supper was fish and chips but instead of going to Mountain Quail Café, we made our own tonight. Maybe next Friday, we’ll meet up with some friends there. Our meal was great and filling. Not sure what we'll watch tonight, but there is another Reacher episode, NCIS: Sydney and Fire Country. Lots of entertainment tonight. We reached a wonderful high of 75F/23C. It was a fine day.

Friday is Class Day, To Parker To Parker to Fill up our Suite

On Friday, Dec. 27^th, Christmas is almost just a memory now. We still put our outside lights on, because it is pretty, and the tree lights in the evening. I love that ambience with no other lighting. 😊 I was up by 7 and out the door by 7:30. It was 50F/10C with a bit of a breeze. Bill’s head cold was still lingering so he decided to stay home this morning, and informed Duncan. He was happy that Duncan hopped in his car and went flying anyway. I think that man is hooked!

After my return, I had my tea and took Gibbs out for his walk. Bill had deduced that going to Walmart in Parker was not a good idea either, so I accepted D & P’s offer to tag along with them. Our grocery list was growing, day by day, and there were a number of things we needed to restock. But first! At 9:40, Jess and Jessie picked me up and we went to the Desert Camel Crafts for class. ♥

No matter which way I looked,

Brighter and brighter

Jess teaches, as you know, but Jessie helps the shop owner on Fridays, with whatever she needs done. 😊 This morning Georgia had errands so Jessie stepped in to man the store in her absence. Us ladies, 3 of us today, were in the corner learning to make more flowers for greeting cards. It doesn’t matter what we are making, I am just loving the fact that I am getting out there and having fun.

Today, my colour choices were not the best for the background I chose BUT I am proud of what I made and, even though I felt rushed to finish those last leaves, we were still out of the shop at 12:30 and on our way home. By no means did Jess rush us, but we all try to be finished by noon to allow for another class at 1. Bill was just starting to make his sandwich so I joined him and was ready to catch my next ride by 1.

Duncan drove and, as always, I love the route. The desert, the mountains, the blue sky, all mesmerize me each and every time. We went our separate ways and met outside the front doors with our carts full of groceries.

One quick stop at Safeway, across the street, a water car wash at Terrible’s and we were on our way home. Bill and Gibbs greeted us with smiles but he still sound like the gas station. (Terrible) ☹ Poor guy.

With the food items in their proper cupboards, shelves, fridge/freezer I changed into shorts and sat outside with a cup of tea. Bill tried to sit with me but was just not feeling up to it. At least, I’m trying to look at a positive, it isn’t in his chest, or throat and it isn’t a fever. Hopefully tomorrow, he will see relief. After my tea was done, Gibbs and I went for his walk around the park.

Supper time and we agreed on simple again, but enough to ‘stuff that cold’ again. 😊 Grilled cheese sandwiches and Bill got a nice dish of Black Cherry ice cream for dessert. I was quite full but may find a Lindor chocolate from my stocking later on this evening. It was a much nicer day today, reaching 71F/22C but feeling hotter than that with that sunshine! We cleaned up the fry pan and loaded the dishwasher before settling in for the night.

Simple and it filled us.

Stocking Up in Parker, Finished the Puzzle, The Height of Lazy

On Friday, Jan. 5^th we had decided to go to Walmart in Parker, 36 miles north. It was a cloudy morning and Bill chose to give up flying so we could go early. I had my tea and then my shower first and then we were on our way! Gibbs minded the Suite for us. 😊

It wasn’t busy at all in town although Walmart always has enough patrons. There were 4 checkout lines open and one with no one ahead of us. Bonus! We spent more than expected but when you think that we found Gibbs’ dog food (unexpectedly), found ink cartridges for our printer, Bill found a few small hobby related items and a couple of bottles of vitamins on top of the food, we were quite pleased. We didn’t need much meat, just burgers, shrimp and ground beef.

That will do us for a while and we can put off the trip to Yuma for another couple of weeks. The Sam’s Club and/or Pet Smart in Yuma carries the big bags of Blue dog food and that is usually where we have to go to get it. We were home shortly after 11 and we noticed the diesel price had dropped from $3.65 to $3.59 so Bill topped Black Beauty up. 😊

I hadn’t eaten anything but yogourt so was hungry and ready to eat early. I made a tuna sandwich and headed over to work on the puzzle. Since I was the only one working on it and there were 90% dark pieces left, I grouped them in piles according to their shape. That doesn’t always work when others work on it, but I do it with a difficult puzzle.

I finished it around 1 when Barb and Connie arrived for Pokeno. The ladies were aiming to play twice a week and today was the first day to try that. Not sure how it worked out. I thought I might start on some crocheting but first I printed off the 6 patterns I downloaded from Etsy. I also had a kit under the bed that I can get my hands into to try and change up my hobby activities.

Bill was busy, cleaning the ‘garage/basement’ and then climbed up to tilt a panel – as a test. The days are getting longer so the sun is slowly changing position in the sky, we’ll see if it makes a difference in our solar power in the daylight. While they dozed, I snuck Stuffy away from Gibbs and did my best to extend his life. He had to sit in the sink while I got ready so he was out of sight of you-know-who.

His rebirth didn't come without incident.

Gibbs is worth it. 

I did what I could and then joined them in my recliner. I read a few more chapters, the story is slow so pages aren’t turning too quickly. I also dozed, what a lazy day! At 4:30, Gibbs and I walked around the park before returning for my cup of tea. I didn’t chat with either Patti, Sheila or Dora today! That seems odd but I know they’re around. I’ll see them tomorrow, I’m sure.

I’m checking out some garage sales in the morning, at the big park behind us. Who knows what I’ll find! For supper, we had air fried chicken bites, fries for Bill and a coleslaw to share. My weight is going in the wrong direction because my  food choices fell off the rails over the holidays. I’ll get back on track – soon. 😉 This is the end of a week already, first one in January. It has been a good day. As I'm writing, I'm listening to Tom Petty live at Toronto, Ontario, 3/17/95. I wasn't there but it is still a flashback to listen on Sirius xm.

Payday Means a Big Food Shop, Heating Up

The Ridge

On Monday, May 29^th it was a fairly typical start to the week around here. Bill was up early to the alarm and to get ready for another long day at work. I’m sure the work day is already long for him, a retiree, but with the added drive time both ways, it adds on a couple of hours. Today, he took Ptooties because of the distance.

Soon after he left, I also left for my small job. Black Beauty and I went into Durham to clean. There were a couple of machines that had notes so I took the time to see if there was anything I could do. Kaitlin showed me once how to fix one of the problems, but this old gal couldn’t remember what to do once she opened the machine up. Duh, darn memory! I tested the other machine and it worked fine for me so I destroyed the note.

going to beat the band.
For much of today, it didn't move.

I sent Sandy 2 text; one to order or pick up more paper towels for the hand dispensers and the second to advise of the machine that needs attention. He (they) have been excellent at keeping on top of the issues, not to slight Jamie at all but, cash flow is required to run an operation like this one. 😊 Today, it was 90 minutes so I recorded my time on their office calendar and closed up shop. Because our government pension $ went in the bank overnight, I headed to Hanover for a big food shop.

It's a hot day and if I hadn't cleaned first, I certainly would have slipped a summer dress on or shorts at the very least. It was a bigger shopping spree than normal, it seemed like we were either out of, or near to it, a lot of regular staples so I stocked up. The grocery account took a hit and we haven’t even began June yet. LOL Back home, Gibbs helped me unload the truck and put things away. He runs out to check the tires and then in and out with me each trip. 😊

All I did after that in terms of ‘work’ was to water the vegetables and newly planted corral finery. I worked on the puzzle for a while, as it was nice and cool in there with the two windows open. Gibbs was Mr. Curious today and twice disappeared up into the field behind the berm while I was in there so he ended up on his leash rope, near water and shade, so I could relax and put some pieces in. Otherwise, I would be up and down to check on him.

was comfortable.

The rest of the day was lunch at 12:30 and then reading. We moved inside and out, repeat, repeat, trying to find the coolest place to sit. Outside was nice with a breeze later on, but there are still pesky bugs flying in our faces. Even Gibbs was swatting them away. We came in at 5:30 to wait for Bill. Supper just needs to be turned on. Fish, fried potatoes, and a veggie. Easy one tonight.

This has been a warm day but instead of using a/c, so soon, we took advantage of free hydro/electric and unplugged from power. The solar panels have had a lot of use over the last 3 weeks. 😊 Every lit bit helps. Happy Birthday to our son-in-laws, Dennis and Cory. I hope you had an enjoyable day!
