Relief on its Way, Birthday, Lazy Day

The Ridge

On Tuesday, Aug. 27^th we woke to another hot day. 29C/84F on the horizon and it was already 20C/68F when we got up at 7. This morning when Bill checked our batteries, they were right up where we’d expect them to be after being plugged in overnight. Strange what was happening on Sunday night that ‘fried’ the charger. Oh well, with a new one on the way this week, we’re just fine. 😉

Bill left for the job site at 7;30 and Gibbs and I just hung out inside. I planned to vacuum today but I realized at the end of the day that I neglected to do that. Woops! I did some exercises and we went outside for a bit until the temperature got too ridiculous, even in the shade.

The brush pile is massive this summer.

However, I did dress in long sleeves and pants and picked up all the brush behind the cargo trailer. The brush pile is so high already that it was a challenge doing the ‘up and over’. I managed and came in to do a bit more clothes purging. Two more drawers produced a few tops and I added them to the Bunky bags. All that is left is my jewelry box and I can always find something to donate. 😉

Not much more, but a few things
that won't be missed.

I made my coffee later than usual so didn’t feel hungry enough for much other than half a banana and some yogourt. Leaving Gibbs indoors where it was somewhat cooler, I put my markers and rocks away for the time being and got a puzzle out to start. That turned into a big disappointment, finding out that 160 pieces were missing.

It's a cute picture so I was disappointed.

I got this far and it all went into the garbage.

I knew I was in trouble when there weren’t enough border pieces but stubborn as I am, persisted until I got bored with it. It’s in the garbage now. It was a yard sale purchase for 50¢ so no real loss except my time. Bill was home just before 5 and after catching up, he relaxed in his recliner with Gibbs and I started my blog. I did figure out how to fix the phone camera issue so hopefully that won’t happen again. If it does, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll forget how to fix it! LOL

I had a few shoestring fries and they were nice for a change.

Fish and chips for supper, easy and tasty. Bill had rain 30 minutes away today but not up here. Now we are getting severe thunderstorm watches coming across our phones. It’s the wind we hate so we’ll pay attention and may need to pay Robin a visit this evening. Tomorrow will be a busy day for me too, with a few things on the go and the weather will feel more like late spring again. Strange.

Other than some rain, it would be nice if the 
storms just past us by. 

Last night, I watched a movie called The Timekeeper. It was entertaining and reminded me of Deliverance. Not sure what I’ll find tonight, I’ve saved a few in my 'Favourites' on Prime. Today, is my big sister, Gayle's, birthday so I can't forget to send wishes out to her.

Stocking Up in Parker, Finished the Puzzle, The Height of Lazy

On Friday, Jan. 5^th we had decided to go to Walmart in Parker, 36 miles north. It was a cloudy morning and Bill chose to give up flying so we could go early. I had my tea and then my shower first and then we were on our way! Gibbs minded the Suite for us. 😊

It wasn’t busy at all in town although Walmart always has enough patrons. There were 4 checkout lines open and one with no one ahead of us. Bonus! We spent more than expected but when you think that we found Gibbs’ dog food (unexpectedly), found ink cartridges for our printer, Bill found a few small hobby related items and a couple of bottles of vitamins on top of the food, we were quite pleased. We didn’t need much meat, just burgers, shrimp and ground beef.

That will do us for a while and we can put off the trip to Yuma for another couple of weeks. The Sam’s Club and/or Pet Smart in Yuma carries the big bags of Blue dog food and that is usually where we have to go to get it. We were home shortly after 11 and we noticed the diesel price had dropped from $3.65 to $3.59 so Bill topped Black Beauty up. 😊

I hadn’t eaten anything but yogourt so was hungry and ready to eat early. I made a tuna sandwich and headed over to work on the puzzle. Since I was the only one working on it and there were 90% dark pieces left, I grouped them in piles according to their shape. That doesn’t always work when others work on it, but I do it with a difficult puzzle.

I finished it around 1 when Barb and Connie arrived for Pokeno. The ladies were aiming to play twice a week and today was the first day to try that. Not sure how it worked out. I thought I might start on some crocheting but first I printed off the 6 patterns I downloaded from Etsy. I also had a kit under the bed that I can get my hands into to try and change up my hobby activities.

Bill was busy, cleaning the ‘garage/basement’ and then climbed up to tilt a panel – as a test. The days are getting longer so the sun is slowly changing position in the sky, we’ll see if it makes a difference in our solar power in the daylight. While they dozed, I snuck Stuffy away from Gibbs and did my best to extend his life. He had to sit in the sink while I got ready so he was out of sight of you-know-who.

His rebirth didn't come without incident.

Gibbs is worth it. 

I did what I could and then joined them in my recliner. I read a few more chapters, the story is slow so pages aren’t turning too quickly. I also dozed, what a lazy day! At 4:30, Gibbs and I walked around the park before returning for my cup of tea. I didn’t chat with either Patti, Sheila or Dora today! That seems odd but I know they’re around. I’ll see them tomorrow, I’m sure.

I’m checking out some garage sales in the morning, at the big park behind us. Who knows what I’ll find! For supper, we had air fried chicken bites, fries for Bill and a coleslaw to share. My weight is going in the wrong direction because my  food choices fell off the rails over the holidays. I’ll get back on track – soon. 😉 This is the end of a week already, first one in January. It has been a good day. As I'm writing, I'm listening to Tom Petty live at Toronto, Ontario, 3/17/95. I wasn't there but it is still a flashback to listen on Sirius xm.

Sunny Skies, Ridge Winds, Playing Lazy and Getting Good at the Game

The Ridge

On Monday, Apr. 6^th I was awake early. Like 3 am early with a stupid but scary dream. It felt too close to home as far as things that can go wrong and it brought the point home that even though I may not show it, I am worried about ‘things’. Needless to say, I was happy to wake up so I could shake it free and roll over to sleep again.

And this is the kind of day we are in for

 Boy, was I surprised when I woke up again and Bill was downstairs, it was bright out my window and the clock radio said 7:45! With the clear blue sky, I decided that I would be able to get out for an early walk. Whoa! I put the brakes on when I saw it was below freezing and Frosty had visited us overnight. I decided to wait until after my tea and then I would head out. It was around 9 when I bundled, getting my winter jacket out and slipping my warm boots on.

The slight breeze was cold as was the air but by the time I got to the corner, I could feel a difference. By the time, I’d walked to Turbine Lane and past by about 100’, I turned around and unzipped my jacket. I’d worked up enough body heat I guess and the slower pace on the way back was very relaxing. It feels so good to be out on these roads again. I only met 4 vehicles and everyone is friendly, giving me a wave as they passed.

 Today, is the reverse of yesterday. We started out with the clear sunny skies today and by 2:30, the clouds had rolled in dropping the 12C/55F by about 5 degrees. Yesterday, we had fog and clouds until 1 pm. I had propped the Bunky doors open, even the inner one, to let the sun in and warm it up in there and after reading my book inside for a while, I went out to the puzzle. An hour and a half of that was enough before I ‘checked out’ and closed the door. My fingers and toes were getting too cold.

I took one walk down the lane to see if the mail lady had left us anything and stopped to see how Bill was doing in the Hangar on my way back. Time for a hot cup of tea. I look forward to the days when it is warm enough that I'll want a cold drink instead but that won’t be for a while. We’d eaten sausages and eggs at 10:30 but with my tea I wanted a nibble. Cheese to the rescue with a handful of Flip Over crackers, or whatever they’re called. 😊

Back to my book, I curled up in my chair. The heat was off, as with the sun shining in the windows in the morning, it warms it up quickly in here. Usually around 4:30, we turn it back on for the evening.

So, I was quite comfy with a blanket over my knees for the rest of the afternoon. Bill came in at 5 and we discussed supper. He would have barbecued the steak but I’d already Googled how to cook round steak in an IP and was anxious to try it. Bill is open to Madame IP and I trying something new.

 At 5:30, I started them. After sautéing for 2 minutes each side, they cooked for a total of 10 minutes with about 5 min. NR. I had cut a large potato into big pieces and set them in foil with butter on top of the steak. The spuds were a little tough, should have cut them smaller, but the little tenderloin filet steaks were perfect. We like our steak medium well. Just another success story for my folder.

We each had a dish of custard and then added the supper dishes to the breakfast ones in the dishwasher and turned it on. Bill washed the IP pot by hand and we were finished for the evening. Our suppers are later than normal these days and so is bedtime. Maybe they go hand in hand so we aren’t going to bed with a full stomach. Tonight, will be no exception as Bull is on at 10 pm. I’m confident now that I will still be up. This was another great day in our humble life on the Ridge.
