Not Much Happening Today

The Ridge

On Tuesday, Apr. 23rd I was surprised to see mostly blue skies out my bedroom window. My forecast for today showed clouds and rain. By the time I got downstairs at 7:15, made my tea and chatted with Bill, it all pretty much changed. He had a busier morning than I did. It was still windy, a Ridge tradition apparently, and now that the clouds had covered the sky, it was cold. The 11C/54F we reached today felt nowhere near that. Brrr.

This is what a lot of our day was like.
Bottom picture, he's on the step, Bill is upstairs
and I'm downstairs in the kitchen.

Bill was outside long enough to go and fill our water bladder (thank you Rob) and to get another propane tank filled. Both were bordering on empty yesterday, one completely and the second one absurdly close. Now we’re set for a while but it still needs to warm up. Our Blue Flame heater is our main source of heat, with the furnace only running for a couple of cycles first thing in the morning. This warms our floors up and the under belly as well.

I only went out once, after lunch, and that was to cart my 4 containers of paints and small rocks from under the bed out to the Bunky. Bill set up my folding table that I bought last winter. I’ve decided not to use the round table, it takes up so much room in there. Hopefully, this one will work for any puzzles I want to do. The rest of my day was basically a lazy one.

Baked keto oatmeal, for a few breakfasts
for me.

I researched a tenancy agreement for M, who is ready (finally) to rent out his front apartment again. It took forever to get the last ‘non-paying’ tenant out and Bill and I have offered to get him set up properly this time, with regulations and an agreement in place. With that tentatively done, I made a batch of my Baked Keto Oatmeal for my breakfasts. We were both wimps this afternoon and didn’t want to be outside. A good day to rest up from yesterday’s surge. Although, I must say that my stretching last night seemed to help. I felt pretty good when I woke up.😊

Two good meals out of a $5 brisket.
That's pretty good in my books.

We had corned beef brisket for supper with potatoes, onions and carrots. No cabbage, I don’t have any and Bill doesn’t like it anyway. Boy, was it good! It was so tender, the whole meal was cooked in Madame IP. She did a great job!

We didn't see the sun since first thing
this morning.
This was the closest we got.
Good night!

I took very few pictures today but have a couple of my lazy little boy and one Bill sent me of a broken tree branch from down near the pond. It’s a dead tree that we plan on taking down this summer before it falls on the Hangar. The winter removed this branch for us, thankfully, in the right direction. I forgot to download that picture,  so will include it tomorrow.

I hope your day is warmer than ours and if it is, you can consider sending some our way. 😊

Thank you for popping in.

A Slow Moving Day for Me, Bill Doesn’t Stop

Winterhaven, CA On Tuesday, Dec. 28th I could feel slight discomfort when I first woke up. I’d had a couple of candy snacks before bedtime last night and I felt that was the culprit. It wasn’t terrible so when Gibbs and I got up at 7:30, we still went for our walk around the park. Temporarily, it made me feel better, the fresh air and all. However, I felt quite chilly even when we came back in so I sat in my chair with my blanket over my legs.
No matter which way you looked this morning, there were pink fluffy clouds
Bill offered me a tea but it took a while before I was ready for one. I didn't want to upset my stomach any more than it already was. We’ve been reading our friends’ blogs, trying to stay caught up on their whereabouts and what they’re up to.
And then the sun coming up from around the mountain Sometimes they have issues that Bill might be able to help with so today, he left Gibbs and I comfy in my chair and drove to Ogilby Rd. to try and find Doug. He wanted to lend a hand if he could. He returned sooner than I expected but only to report that our friend had left for town.
Upstairs with Gibbs while Bill was away, I saw the neighbours trailer - and longed for the desert of Quartzsite
Doug isn’t the only one camped there so Bill stayed and visited with Tom and Deb for a bit before coming home. We have been watching the weather and mostly playing it by ear as to when a good day will be for all 3 of us to go out for Happy Hour. With me feeling the way I am, fine but draggy, it wasn’t in the cards today. I knew Bill would be hungry so I made him eggs and bacon and heated up some of my faux oatmeal for me for our lunch. It was good with cream and milk! 😊
At the clubhouse, I searched through the loaner dvds and found this one! I won't watch it. After dishes, I put off taking the decorations down, deciding to wait until tomorrow, and walked up to start a new puzzle. I forgot to get a picture. My brain isn’t working today, I guess. I worked away until 2 and returned to find that Bill had carried on with the projects he set out to do. One being the installation of our Dog Walking hook. Now the leashes don’t need to be hanging in the handles of our cupboard door. Yay!
Everything but the tree and the outside decorations have been put away. The tree looks pretty even without all our ornaments
All the ornaments were boxed, not a Christmas decoration in sight When he finished up for the day, he got a text from Doug that he could use some help if Bill was able so without a second thought, he and Black Beauty were off and running. 😊 Well, not running. A friend in need…….you know. ♥ Bill is like that, as many people are, so if he can lend a hand, he will. I decided in the meantime, since it was early still, to start putting decorations away. That takes away part of the job tomorrow so that’s good.
The sky tonight was almost the same as it was first thing Bill was back by 3:30 and now settled himself down for a snooze. After starting my blog post, I also settled back into my chair with my book. I’m reading the book Bill gave me for Christmas. “It’s a Long Story: My Life” by Willie Nelson. 😊 I’m enjoying it as he knew I would. Fish and chips for supper tonight, nice and simple. I’m going to have a vegetable instead of fries.
Tonight's supper Supper was good and all cleaned up after by 7 o’clock. I had cauliflower, tomato and olives and the latter brightened up the plate display! We watched some tv and in between I read a bit more of Willie’s story. This was a good day, much improved from the morning start. Tomorrow, we’re going to town.
The last night for these lights, but my they're pretty on our site tree Good night! Thank you for your visit. Your comments are always welcome.

A Slow Down on Saturday, Mixed Weather

The Ridge

So, on Saturday, Aug. 14th we basically took it slow – again. We were up in our household around 7 and I left for the Mat with the sorted dirty laundry soon after. It wasn’t busy and I was able to snag the 2 washers that I like and get right into cleaning. No complaints today! Just the usual dirty floor but everything else was in pretty good shape and no new machines were broke down, nor was the change machine. Yay! 😊

Driving to Durham

I did stop on the way and filled Ptooties’ tank since it was between half and quarter. The pump was acting up, jolting and stopping depending on how I was using the handle so it made it difficult to tell exactly how full it was near the top up point. I stopped it at $38.01 regardless. Trust me, I try to stop it on the dollar but it never seems to work for me. Ha ha. I stopped on the way home at yet another garage sale that was just setting out stuff when I got into town.

4 more books
I've already read Louise Penny's
but Bill hasn't so I'll keep it for him
I love that they are hard covers or large soft covers

More books and a straw hat. The lady said it was her aunts and her aunt would be happy that it was being hung up on a wall. 😊 Cute! Back home, I hung the clothes and with the breeze, trust that they will dry quickly. I made a coffee and sat and finished my blog from yesterday. Well, started AND finished it. I didn’t realize I hadn’t got at it at all! The day was definitely a cooler one from Friday, only forecasting a high of 20C/70F.

Bill called my attention to the turbine behind us
(the one at Turbine Lane)
where they were washing or doing something
to the blade

Hard to tell what he's doing but they were working
from the basket all day
until about 8 pm.

That was kinda cool!

That meant we could unplug from power and use our solar panels since we wouldn’t need the a/c. That’s rare this summer! We are very pleased with our monthly hydro bill though with how many times our a/c has been on, day in and day out. That’s great news and a nice price for us to be comfortable. Bill had some water left in the bladder from our last tank top up so he hosed it into the pool for Gibbs and I. It wouldn’t be too warm but he drinks the water and seems to enjoy getting in and out of it.

Bill did some work in the Hangar/cargo trailer and later while I sat out with Gibbs, he had a snooze in the shaded hammock. There were a lot of big fluffy clouds that made it feel cool, but in the sun, it got quite toasty.

There's someone sleeping in the hammock
but Gibbs doesn't like it - yet

This would be our ‘last chance’ for a group Happy Hour so we invited D & G and R & P over this afternoon. It’s always great to have friends come for a visit so it will leave us feeling ‘empty’ when the Happy Hour’s end and the Wilson’s pull out tomorrow.

The farmer was doing something in the field
again but here are all their bales of wheat
This is back where the turbine is

Between 3 and 4, we all came together once more but today it was a little different. Instead of sitting in the shade, we all opted for the sunny position on the lawn. The wind made it quite cool if you were shaded. I was in shorts and a tee and until after everyone left but us 4 campers, I was quite comfortable. It was 6 when we said goodnight and came in to start supper.

One of my gladiolas are starting to bloom
Yay!

Bill took the Happy Hour picture for me today
It's a good way to end the week!

Gibbs settled down a couple of times and then after everyone left

It was after eating that I remembered the clothes on the line needed to be brought inside. Bill did dishes and I took care of the laundry. Unfortunately, when I returned, I was putting the butter in the cupboard when a roly poly wine glass fell out onto the floor and shattered. Woops! We got that cleaned up and vacuumed and then had the last of the ice cream. Bill had his in a dish and I had mine in a cone. It was good.

Not much to show for tomatoes
this year but they taste good

Gibbs and I walked down the lane before Happy Hour
and the pasture is filled with the Queen's lace

At our field, I let him run with his leash

And with Clemson's spirit, he ran
checking to make sure Mom was coming 😁💓

The evening winds dropped off, as they usually do, and it didn’t feel as chilly around 7:30 as it had earlier because the sun was still brilliant in the west sky. We all expected to maybe turn the furnace on or at the very least, add a blanket to our beds.

Lo and behold, my transplanted Spirea bush is happy
now and has purple flowers 💗

Bill and Ken took a drive just before lunch (I think) to 6 & 6 Auctions to pick up our ‘winnings’. He got a few garden hoses, which will come in handy, and I got a 3 (4?) step folding stool for the bunky. $5 was all it took and it is a real sturdy one. 😊

Leftovers made for an easy meal
I heated the fries in the air fryer (Rosy)
and they were pretty good!
Good night!

This was a nice day. Thank you all for popping in for a visit.

A Slow-Moving Thursday

The Ridge

On Thursday, July 15th Bill left for work at 7 and at 7:30, I’d fed Gibbs, let him out and was on my way to work as well. There is nothing exciting to report about the hour at the Mat, just a couple of customers doing their laundry. I could tell that Jamie had been in the previous day as the change was all removed from the machines. There are little tell-tales (invisible footprints) that indicate his presence. Just the movement of the broom in the lockup. 😊

I love this. Gibbs hops up here while Daddy
gets his boots on - a morning ritual
He doesn't pester with the laces quite as much now

I was out of there before 9 and stopped at The Water Store to fill up the RO bottle. It was already very humid and I had turned the a/c on in the car, still trying to cool down from the laundromat. One ceiling fan and front and back doors propped open didn’t do much to air it out. Back home, I was greeted by Gibbs. At the door to the Suite. Woops! Once more, I didn’t get the latch on his crate closed properly. I had to laugh as I’m sure the look I got was pride at his accomplishments.

Ooh, I had a delicious cherry yogourt shake for breakfast

He hadn’t gotten into anything but my flip flops were out in the middle of the floor. He would likely be fine out of his crate but I’m not ready for that yet. I brought the water bottle to the ‘basement’ and took the a.c.v. rags to the skunk hole. The hole itself is very small but I tied the bag to a tether (so I could pull it out and re-soak the rags) and pushed the bag in as far as I could with the hoe handle. I’m not feeling very positive but it’s worth a try. Then, I sprinkled flour at the entrance to watch for footprints.

The trees are really blowing today

The wind sock is dancing too

Gibbs and I sat outside for quite a while, as I drank my tea and he was very attentive to everything while sitting up on my lap. When the wind picked up and the hammock and cushions started moving, he began barking at the ‘monsters’. Then the thunder, which rolled across the sky like bowling, had him barking at that too. 😊 He was protecting me, I’m sure of it.

Even Gibbs' long hair was blowing in the wind

The sky looked really stormy quite a few times again and it seems Hanover, Chatsworth, Owen Sound and Gorrie all had a couple of heavy downfalls. It dropped very few drops until at one point, after we’d moved inside, the large drops wet the patio mat. Then it quit. Seems most of the rain and storms missed us up here again. Yay! It rained a couple of times, for about 2 minutes tops, and that was the bulk of our rain up here on the Richard’s Ridge.

My flowering raspberry has blossomed!
I was well into my book so sat at the table and kept an eye outside. I wasn’t surprised to see Bill walk in around 2:30. Gibbs and I had heard the truck door close so the little guy was waiting at the door for him. He does bark when someone comes but we’re trying to stop it from continuing. I’m not doing really well with that……..yet. Even if it is us returning home, he barks and jumps up. I’m sure he’ll grow out of most of that but we are still having to work at it. 😊

Still waiting for the first Cone flower
to bloom

The plant is at least 36" tall

The sky looked like this a lot toay

The geese are hanging out in the neighbours field
With that many adults now, I'm glad our grass is poop free

Bill dozed and so did Gibbs, I can’t believe how tired our pooch was. He slept much of the afternoon. At 4, I made a tea and sat with my book, getting close to the finishing pages so it’s getting harder and harder to put down. At 5:30, I got Rosy out for the chicken nuggets, prepared to cook corn on the cob and reheat some rice. We are getting tired of the rice, so I bagged the rest up and put it in the freezer. I will be happy for that one day when I want a fast supper.

Brown headed cowbird

More rain off and on graced our sky during supper and after, luckily in between the bell ringing. Bill saw that we needed water, seems like we are going through it quickly these days, so I offered to finish dishes while he nipped over to the Acreage. Gibbs wanted to sit outside and wait for him so I put him on his rope leash.

Supper

The evening wasn’t going to be a dry one, at least until 10 we are expecting more and possible storms. Then, hopefully it will move on to where others need it!

Let's try something new!

Dessert! (not keto) but good all the same

This was a pretty quiet day but a good one. Oh! I forgot to mention that I made another batch of IP Cheddar and Broccoli soup. I needed something for lunches and it is yummy.
