Lots going on.

The Ridge

On Monday, June 30th Bill was up, getting ready for work and getting the garbage ready too. I got a goodbye kiss and he was out the door at 6:30. I looked out my window and saw Duncan coming out to say goodbye. Patty did that last night. 😆

Good morning, Sir Oriole
and the rest of you.

I remained in bed with Gibbs until a few minutes before 7. Today's commitment, away from the Ridge, was at 11 to clean for Robin's bnb. I made my tea, played my online Wordle and Gibbs and I sat outside. It's a beautiful morning, not supposed to last though.

On schedule, our guests pull out.
Gibbs sits perfectly still until they are out of sight.

Patty and Duncan pulled out at 8, as planned and we sat for a few more minutes before I walked over to check my vegetables. I don't know that the one kind of Swiss Chard is producing as I'd hoped. It has a yellow stalk and my first feed from it was yummy.

It was nice to see them, even for a short
visit.

However, it hasn't seem to come back after I cut those few outside leaves. I sure hoped to get more than one or two feeds from it! Maybe I need to sow a lot of plants rather than two. 🤭 I sprayed them again and do think that is helping.

Again, my tomatoes are untouched but even though the plants are big, there are still only a few tomatoes. Dang! I've tried doing the right thing, getting rid of sucklings and lower leaves. Grrr. Then it was time to satisfy our fine feathered friends so I filled the feeders.

So, this picture takes the prize today.
This is Mildred, Robin and Andrew's muffin.
She is getting used to me now and will run to me
but at Williamsford, for a short time off leash,
she just runs and runs and runs.
Look at the smile on her face!

After that, we came inside and turned the a/c on. It is another humid day preparing for an afternoon storm. Tomorrow looks more normal for our Canada Day celebration. At 11, I closed up the sheds, made a coffee and snacks for lunch and left.

Coming home from Williamsford, there were
many slowdowns.
I didn't see the Amish wagon (plops on the right)
but I followed an rv'er, poking along just at the 80 km speed,
a truck pulling a flatbed with another truck on it AND
this guy. I was tempted to go under.
Ha ha

Robin's trip plans to Manitoba yesterday got canceled when her van 'blew up'. Died, in other words. 😒 Her life is self-induced crazy as it is, she doesn't need this crap too. So, they went to O.S. to pick up the last materials for their shed and as I was leaving the bnb, they pulled in.

On my way home, I stopped in at Durham's LCBO and picked up my new favourite drink, Crown Royal, and a couple of bottles of wine for supper tomorrow. Just small ones, we got left with 2 part bottles last year when our guests didn't drink it. LOL

Other than chasing each other in the yard,
this is the first time I've captured 3 Chippy's
under the feeders at the same time.
The third one is hiding by the iris leaves.

Gibbs was happy to see me and after starting my blog, I debated going out to do some trimming. The sky looked lighter again with some blue showing, so I took a chance. I'd forgotten my snipper was broken so bravely lifted Bill's Stihl off the hook.

I didn't make out to badly with Bill's
bigger weed whacker. I think I need a lesson
how to hold it on the hill. 😀

Miracle of miracles, I got it started on the 3rd pull! It's heavier, and even though it has a strap, it is awkward. I got the job done, trimming around the corral gardens. They are my nemesis and I wanted them to show as well as possible. Ha! Tadah!

I feel better about it being seen now.
The Evening Primrose are still the hilight.,

Bill was home just before 4 and before that I noticed Robin had already paid me. Wow, how she keeps track of everything is beyond me! So, for supper, we agreed on toasted westerns and they were the best we've had in a while. Nice fat filling egg sandwiches!

While cooling down in the shade,
I admired Bill's Canada flag.
It hasn't flown much because of the strong winds.

A drumstick for dessert and we were cleaned up for the night. It is a big day for us tomorrow, at least after guests arrive, but the preparation before hand will keep me busy. I love it though, we don't entertain often and we enjoy it.

I ate my sandwich before I
remembered a picture,
so here is dessert.

This was a great day. I hope it was for you too. We reached a humid 31C/94F this afternoon so it was a relief to get the rain and bit of a cool down.

Happy Canada Day to our fellow Canadians!

Bill, Gibbs and I wish you all a wonderful
holiday tomorrow!

My flowers from a couple of years ago.
I wasn't as creative this summer.
Good night!

Thank you for the visit.

Visitors!

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 29th we all woke up at the same time. It was 6:30, meaning that Bill and Gibbs slept in. 😀 Highly unusual. We got up and while I washed and dressed, he began sorting our laundry.

Good Sunday morning!

There were 2 customers in the Mat when I arrived and I loaded 2 machines and set about cleaning. It was an uneventful hour but because I was in jeans, and because I was heading directly to Hanover when I left, I dried our heavier clothes so I could change into shorts.

The remainder would hang on the line when I got home, it was a lovely morning. I stopped at Independent first and picked up my Liberte plain 9% yogourt, then Dollarama for more wall hangings for my quilling and then to Walmart.

Our guests on a perfect afternoon

That place was busy, everyone had a very full cart. I went through self-checkout because I like to pack my bags at my pace and in a way that I can carry them easily. I was on m

y way home around 10.

Mike was here last evening but not until 7:30 so I didn't see him. He was gone this morning when I returned but he has his own schedule and can certainly come and go as he pleases. 😊 I put the groceries away and hung the clothes.

My sweeties are enjoying
the day too

It was then 11:45 and our visitors arrived. Duncan and Patty could only come for 1 night but that's better than no nights, so we welcome them. We had lunch and spent the afternoon catching up in the shade, first on the patio and then by the firepit under the trees.

Sometimes you just need to
put your head down.
💗

For supper, Bill and I had t-bone steak and a baked potato. It was delicious! Patty and Duncan had their own meal and brought it over so we could eat together in the Suite, in the a/c. 💕 More chatting and story telling ensued.

And then sometimes, you
just need your own chair.

We sat outside for a bit but the mosquitoes were hungry. Since we were all unprepared, we said goodbye/goodnight around 8:30. This was a great day but I hinted yesterday about being commissioned for some work.

The steak supper was awesome

Patty and Duncan provided dessert.
Rhubarb peach pie from Vineland
None of us were completely sold,
but it was pretty good and a nice
gesture.

Robin loved my gift so much that she has requested something for her Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland bnb's. With loosely specific instructions, I accepted the challenge. That explains the trip for more 'backdrops' at Dollarama. 😃 Wish me luck!

We reached a high of 28C/82F this afternoon and with the breeze up here, it was one of the most perfect days we've had yet. Absolutely wonderful! I hope yours was just as nice.

And good night!

Thank you for your visit to the Ridge today.

Still Here, Some Clarification, Remembering Daddy

The Ridge

On Saturday, June 28th I woke up to a day of no commitments. That soon changed when I opened the door to my options. 😊 First, I think I owe you all a bit of clarification over last night's mixed up post.

Good morning!
These few pictures are from last night
after the storm.

We got home from Catch the Ace and it began raining within 10 minutes. The winds picked up and the rain became quite heavy for probably 30 minutes. Once the winds calmed, we both received a notice on our phones that we were to take shelter, tornadoes were 'in our area'.

The ONLY good thing about storms,
they make some pretty pictures.

That is never a nice message to receive but for us, living in a small box on wheels, on a hill, it puts a whole new spin on things. So, we grabbed our 'bag' of essentials and ran to the truck to wait it out. We were already soaked from that short jaunt.😒

The prettiest of them all is the bottom one.
See the moon?
💖

Immediately, Dot from next door, messaged. 'You guys are welcome to come weather the storm over here'. Next message 'Come over here, It's just Caper here'. She knew that with the other 2 dogs (her son's) that things could get harried with Gibbs.

A cute picture worth a repeat.
Bill and Gord had a beer and
Dot and I had a spiced rum and mix.

So, that's how we ended up in their warm and cozy garage for the following hour. We are grateful for their friendship, for many reasons, but in this case it is a blessing. 💗We've had 5 different neighbours over the 9 years we've lived here and not one has offered a safe place before.

Back to today, no damage was found up here other than a few grooves in the lane going down the hill. Bill was getting ready for flying or at least meeting the guys. There was a fair bit of fog and dampness surrounding us. It wasn't in the forecast for rain.....well, so much for that.

I took a chance and came home by
the gravel roads. These get washed out really
easy with heavy rains but I only encountered
a few bad spots to avoid.

After he left, I messaged Robin. She had asked me a couple of days ago if I was available to clean on the weekend, to which I responded 'yes'. I hadn't heard from her and I began to wonder if I missed a request. I sure didn't want to leave her stranded!

She and Andrew were trying to finish their new shed at Williamsford and if I could clean, she could carry on helping him rather than take the time to clean. Made sense.

This is the new shed that they are
building at Williamsford in place of that
old one.
It will house games, bikes and the riding mower.

So, at 10:40, I drove to Williamsford. Just as I was about to leave, they pulled in. They would 2 hours to work before tonight's guests arrived. Sadly, it had also started to rain. 😩

I gave her, her little hanging that I made for them and she loved it. She's a minimalist but I'm sure she'll find a corner for it to hang in their home.

Maybe I've posted this before, I can't remember.
Robin is from Quebec and
Andrew is from England so I included both flags.
They loved it,

Back home, Bill had his new toy sitting on the counter. Yes, he was waiting for my reaction! He just picked it up from Craig this morning and was busy putting it together. 😀 New plan, happy man!

What a bright chubby plane, sitting on the island!

Well, it was after 1 when I got home so he had already had something for lunch, naturally. I made 3 of my cream cheese tortilla rollups with a banana inside......fried to a crisp.

A late lunch but a tasty one to fill
the gap until supper.

It was pretty good and I'm using up blackened bananas at the same time. No, I don't want banana bread. By 2:30, it looked like the drizzle had stopped but the sky was still quite heavy with clouds. We'll see if it clears up as expected.

So, I got my quilling out, made a cup of tea and enjoyed what was left of the afternoon. Bill worked on his plane in the Suite too and there was NO room for anything else! 😂

I started another one of these.
I love the owls!

For supper, we had Bill's burgers, you know the kind, and they were very good and filling. Today, I mixed up a spray for my chard, sprouts and eggplant. The leaves are getting eaten by something that I'm not able to see. I gave them a good dose and hope that does the trick. Dish soap, olive oil and water.

The evening was quiet and that is a wonderful change from last evening. We only reached 18C/65F today, which sounds silly. 18C is usually a pretty nice temperature but it felt cool because we were under cloud cover and the winds were gusty every so often.

A few flags standing in the posts.

This was a good day. I placed 6 of our small Canada flags in preparation for Tuesday, our country's 158th birthday. I made some money and even got 'commissioned' for some work! I'll tell you about it tomorrow. 😌

It was 30 years ago today that I lost
Daddy. This is my absolute favourite picture of him and I.
I have it in a small palm size frame sitting right
beside me.
He was only 71, the age I will be this year.
Too young and we all miss him.
Good night!

Thank you for popping over.

A Full Day, Humidity Returns & Storms?

The Ridge

On Friday, June 27th Bill didn't have to go to work. That's nice for him, he deserves a day off during the week. This week, although only 4 days of work, was a hard one working in the hot, humid weather. Oh, and the rain. Yesterday, they got dumped on a couple of times. 😒

Good morning!
My dreaded corral garden looks its
best when the primrose bloom.
Gibbs is checking Bill's grass
cutting abilities.

He and Gibbs still got up at 6 and I waited until after 6:30 before I crawled out of bed. I was on my way into town by 7. It was a pleasant surprise to see my favourite customer, Trudy, already inside. She usually doesn't come until Tuesday.

A lovely day

We get along so well, chatting back and forth, sharing stories and many of them related to our crafting. She has just taught herself to crochet and is making the cutest little critters. We have fun and respect each others time to speak. Not everyone does that. 😀

We left at the same time and a good time to go. A new customer came in, already talking to herself, seemingly on something and I'd just as soon not be a targeted ear. Trudy and I agreed on that! As soon as I got into town, I topped up Ptooties at the Ultramar station and got my .10¢/litre off.

Enjoying the sun and breezes.
Gibbs watches Daddy leave for water.
Good boy!

Bill was cutting grass in the back field and berm when I returned, as I knew he would be. Good time to do it as it sure turned humid later in the day. There were 'warnings' for a storm arriving this evening and the heat and strong wind gusts were evidence of that.

I had to take M in for his Foodland shopping so, as promised, did a freebie run for him. He still tried to pay me but I refused. I did collect my month's pay from Sandy when I got to the Mat so that is out of the way. 😊

A pretty sky

Before picking M up, I went down the lane with the clippers and cut off the drooping branches. After most rain/wind storms, there are always those saplings that lean into the path of our vehicles. It took 3 trips to clean them up.

By then, it was lunch time and I fried up some newly purchased (wait for it) chicken hearts. They are hard to find and I love them so much that seeing them in Foodland, was a no-brainer. I divided them into a few baggies for the freezer. Delicious!

Yum! Fried chicken hearts
and keto bread.

While Bill and Gibbs dozed, I cut the front lawn area that he can't do with the Cub Cadet. He had also put the harrow on the mower and went up and down the lane and our gravel parking area. Gets rid of most of the weeds and looks better.

He went to town for fuel, garbage tags and lotto tickets while I stretched out in my gravity chair. Yes, it was hot but with the winds, it was wonderful! Bill was on the move again and went to get a bladder of water before the rains arrive later.

So, Bill and I didn't have our tickets drawn but
our friend, and sponsor, Roz, did! She won $501.
Nice, congrats!

The drive home was dry but it
soon changed,

We both came in around 4:30 to relax before our jaunt into town. Durham's Catch the Ace draw is starting up again tonight so we'll be going before supper. Toasted tomato sandwiches are on the menu and a last drumstick for dessert.

Caper watches his unexpected guests
carefully.

Gibbs shares a moment with Dot
We sat in their garage during the
tornado warnings in the area, 7:55.
We were home by 8:45 and the sky was beautiful!

By the way, I did get our VRBO refund and have rebooked our other place for Ladyfest. Lots of options for September, we just had to be sure it  offered what we all need. 😃 What a great day! (then it changed into a bit of a harried evening)

We reached a high of 29C/84F and dropped to a pleasant 20C/69F during the rains.

We got a lot of rain in that hour.

I think it would have been worse if Bill had not
used the harrow here. that's a lot of water.

We arrived home during a bit of a lull
and the threat appeared to be over.
I've taken more pictures of the sky
but they can wait until tomorrow.
We're home and safe.
Thank you to our good neighbours.
Good night!

Thank you for the visit!

The Rain Arrives but That's It?

The Ridge

On Thursday, June 26th things were bustling around here at its normal time. At least for Bill. Up at 5:30, Gibbs out and in, a kiss goodbye, Bill left and we went back up to bed. I didn't sleep, guess I'd had enough. I was dreaming, this time about Ladyfest. Huh! Not surprised.

Good Morning!
Nancy and I were chatting about security cameras.
So, I took this picture to show her.
Yup, this is what we were doing after 9 this morning.

I played my games, had my tea and did some Amazon perusing. Starting July 8th, their sale dates start for a few days so we are keeping an eye on a couple of things we'd like to get. Other than taking M into town at 10, it was a pretty uneventful morning.

This home belongs to
(are you ready?)
Mrs. Sew 'n Sew.
M was picking up some clothing
items she repaired for him.

At least for me. He was having problems getting access to his bank account so we weren't able to take care of his groceries today. 😔 Things got straightened out by noon, with no explanation from his bank, but it means that I will be taking him back in tomorrow for some food.

A pretty dull day but our
gate looks wonderful!

I told him I'd give him a 'free' trip since this was out of his control. I also told him that it was a 'one-time, take it or leave-it' deal. That got a laugh. So, what else to do on a cooler, wet day but to quill? I had a couple of greeting cards started for later months so finished those and put it all away.

Bill messaged that it would be another late night, they aren't working tomorrow and want to finish this deck, I'm sure. I'm surprised they worked all day, we had rain from 9 until 1. Not all heavy but there was a good downpour around 9:30 and M got soaked at every stop today. 😏

I don't know if she was singing,
but she sat there for a long time looking
at her reflection. 💕

Gibbs and I had a quiet afternoon indoors. At 5:15, I prepped supper, it will be a late meal but a good one. After a long day, Bill needs a good supper. He walked in the door a few minutes past 6. I guess I wasn't the only one with a mixed up day! The rain was playing havoc for them too.

Supper was good but the chop
was way too big for me.
The cabbage was delicious!

We had large pork chops, Bill had roasted fingerling potatoes and I had cabbage. I couldn't finish my chop so bagged it up for lunch tomorrow. It all tasted great and we each had a keto molten lava dessert. 😉

Okay, Grandma's bragging rights here.
Even though she's not my biological granddaughter,
OUR youngest is just adorable here.
Her first t-ball season overwith and her
Mom is bursting with pride.
Go Hadley go!

I didn't take many pictures today, but I'll share what I have. I still enjoyed the day, however dull and I'm happy about the rain. I would have been happier with even a bit more for the plants.

We only had a high temperature of 18C/66F today, feeling colder with the dampness. It will warm up again tomorrow and so it goes in our world.

There was a video on FB of her hitting
the ball and running the base but no way
to download it.
She's such a girly girl so this is quite special.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by!
