The Ridge (lots of pictures of a special run)
On Friday, June 13th we were both excited to see, although overcast, the forecast calling for NO rain, Both here and in Port Dover, some clouds, some sun and that meant we were going for a bike ride! π

Good morning!
Leaving the Ridge
early in the morning
We were up at 6 and I had time for my cup of tea and yogourt. Bill had coffee and his cereal and we geared up. Gibbs knew something was going on once the boots went on.

Arrival at Bridgette and Chris's home
It was a chilly 9C/49F when we hopped on the bike but there was no natural wind, which helped.
We do not have heated suits so relied on our layers to keep us comfortable and it pretty much worked. The older I get, the harder it is to endure long rides so I needed to stop at Tavistock's Tim Horton's for a piddle break. π
It is 2 hours to Bridgette and Chris's home near Woodstock and the chilly air and my tea, I wasn't going to make it - comfortably. π We had a 15 minute break there and we followed them the hour and a half, down roads and through towns we've never travelled. It was interesting and rare traffic.

We have arrived!
Police presence is welcoming, a place
where only bikers and bikes can go.
Approaching downtown, as we search for
a parking spot together, there were a
couple of lemonade stands and lots
of onlookers from the residences along the way
As we approached Port Dover, it is always so much fun for me to see other bikers, scads and scads of them, joining together for the same reason. It was 12:30 when we found a place along the main strip to park our bikes together. Chris has an Indian (Roadmaster), beautiful bike.

A display of Indian bikes, various editions,
various ages and colours.
Bill had his eye on one, I just said 'no'. π
Some very pretty bikes
We walked, perused, laughed and had a wonderful time. There are some pretty original (to say the least) sights and I had to take a picture of a couple in particular. One is adorable and the other......well, see for yourself! π

then this.
Thong Man is there every year.
Bridgette and Chris visit Port Dover a few times a year, not just on Friday the 13th (there aren't usually that many in a year anyway), and have a favourite place to eat.

The Beachhouse Restaurant
Delicious food, real palm trees on the beach
and the water was't too bad!
It was around 1 when we got in line at the Beachhouse Restaurant and seated about 30 minutes later. Their food was great and the view of Lake Erie was perfect!

Pictures on the beach!
It would have been nice to see Bill's sister, Liz and Bruce, but unless you plan specifically where and when you'll be somewhere, it is a challenge. We missed them pulling out by about 30 seconds as we were walking back towards our bikes at 3. π

This Esso station on the main street was sure pulling in the business!
We followed Chris, his Indian and his wife back as far as Woodstock where we stopped to fuel up and I layered up a bit.

Heading out of town
at 3:15.
It was a warmer day
We parted ways on the outskirts of town. I needed my hoody under my leather jacket and my gloves again. I didn't think the chaps were necessary. (wrong!)
The hours spent in Dover were warm, warm enough to roll long sleeves up and tank tops if you had them, but riding, still under clouds at 5, was chilly. By the time we reached Durham, I was very cold and my butt and inner thighs felt like I was riding a big horse! π
No complaints, it was a great day with my daughter and her husband. I wish it wasn't so far but, although I say that might be our last time to go, who knows? Never say never! Bill says we drove 640 km/400+ miles today on Jazz. That is equivalent to many travel days pulling the Suite!
We pulled in the lane, parked Jazz (who did very well getting us there safely and back home again) and drove over in Ptooties to pick up our baby. πΆπΎ
He was happy to see us but we know he loves being with Dot and Caper. They are a team that's for sure. He doesn't see as much of Gord so it took him a bit of time to re-familiarize himself before accepting and sitting on his lap. π
I don't have a picture of me in my Port Dover shirt, but i got one too!
Who knows? Maybe Gord had been with someone today that Gibbs didn't approve of. They are pretty sensitive. Because Friday is .10¢ off day for fuel, I drove us into the Ultramar to use my Journie points and fill my wheels up. Getting gas for $1.14.9 is pretty good these days!
Gibbs had a good day too with Dot and Caper. He watches their place from our window.
I was so tired, and hobbling a bit, I sat with Gibbs for a while and Bill and I had a drumstick for supper. Tsk tsk. It wasn't long before I was calling it a night at 9 or so and was out like a light in no time. What a great day! Temperatures reached 22C/71F so a perfect day all around.

We enjoyed the day very much. Quality time spent with my daughter and her new husband. Good night!
Thank you for stopping by!

Sounds like a great way to spend Friday the 13th :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was great!
DeleteI have to admit, Indians are my all time favorite motorcycle. We had a rule ... stop every 75 miles to let the girls off to walk around. The back is where all the vibration is!! LOL
ReplyDelete.....they are very nice for sure.
DeleteWe also ride higher so catch all the bugs that miss the windshield!! haha
I love the noise! Looks like a great day for riding!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteForgive my ignorance, but is this like a show and shine for cars, except with motorcycles? You definitely had a good day for it, and it's always nice to spend time with family.
ReplyDeleteIt is just a gathering of motorcycle riders. Since 1981, a few friends (5) got together for the first time in Dover. More and more joined each year and from 5, it has grown to over 200,000 riders. Only bikes are allowed and yes, it is a show and tell of sorts too.
