The BNB and Company!

The Ridge

On Monday, July 28th I remained in bed until 7 am. I was plenty comfortable and had slept well. Bill was up with Gibbs around 6:30. Nothing unusual there, but it sure was nice that they slept in an extra hour today. No alarm to get Bill moving. 😁

Good morning!
Playtime, Gibbs?

He had decided to get out the weed whacker and finish what he started the other night. I went out, cleaned the outhouse, watered my vegetables and put out the reservation sign on the 'premier' site beside Mike's. Company was coming today for a few days.

Site reserved for Wilson

At 9:30, I left to go and clean the Williamsford bnb. Already, 6 weeks has gone by and Robin has to take Andrew to the airport. The house was left in good condition so I went about stripping, then remaking beds and everything else involved to prepare it for 5 guests tonight.

Taking the back roads

At 11:30, I was on my way home. Bill and I had some lunch and then we sat outside together with Gibbs.

One of my Dahlias

It was another hot day so we sat in the shade. I took my book out around 2:15 and it was almost 2:30 exactly when Ken and Kim drove up in their Journey. 💗

Waiting for company

The Journey arrives.

Ken set up while Kim, Bill and I sat in the screen tent, waiting for him to join us. There wasn't enough shade in there for 4 of us so we moved over to the firepit area. Let's just say we had a long Happy Hour, as usual on our first night together.

Happy Hour(s)
but who's counting?

We discussed all things and without mentioning what time we broke up, we went our own way to have supper. Sssh! Bill and I had the leftover turkey roast, potatoes and coleslaw. It didn't look like much but it filled us except for a tiny hole - hmm just enough room for a homemade butter tart!!

Love those cloud speckled skies!
The sun peeks through the trees
as we scrounge for every morsel of shade.

Thank you, Ken, er.........Door Dash, it was delicious! Bill washed the few cups that don't go in the dishwasher and while I finished my blog, he went upstairs with Gibbs. We've had the a/c running today again, it reached a high of 31C/88F and was quite necessary.

Supper looked the same as last night
EXCEPT for this scrumptious dessert.

There was a pleasant breeze throughout the day but not steady. We've enjoyed today and especially the fact that our friends are here. We always have a great time.

Good night!

Thank you for your visit too!

Visitors!

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 29th we all woke up at the same time. It was 6:30, meaning that Bill and Gibbs slept in. 😀 Highly unusual. We got up and while I washed and dressed, he began sorting our laundry.

Good Sunday morning!

There were 2 customers in the Mat when I arrived and I loaded 2 machines and set about cleaning. It was an uneventful hour but because I was in jeans, and because I was heading directly to Hanover when I left, I dried our heavier clothes so I could change into shorts.

The remainder would hang on the line when I got home, it was a lovely morning. I stopped at Independent first and picked up my Liberte plain 9% yogourt, then Dollarama for more wall hangings for my quilling and then to Walmart.

Our guests on a perfect afternoon

That place was busy, everyone had a very full cart. I went through self-checkout because I like to pack my bags at my pace and in a way that I can carry them easily. I was on m

y way home around 10.

Mike was here last evening but not until 7:30 so I didn't see him. He was gone this morning when I returned but he has his own schedule and can certainly come and go as he pleases. 😊 I put the groceries away and hung the clothes.

My sweeties are enjoying
the day too

It was then 11:45 and our visitors arrived. Duncan and Patty could only come for 1 night but that's better than no nights, so we welcome them. We had lunch and spent the afternoon catching up in the shade, first on the patio and then by the firepit under the trees.

Sometimes you just need to
put your head down.
💗

For supper, Bill and I had t-bone steak and a baked potato. It was delicious! Patty and Duncan had their own meal and brought it over so we could eat together in the Suite, in the a/c. 💕 More chatting and story telling ensued.

And then sometimes, you
just need your own chair.

We sat outside for a bit but the mosquitoes were hungry. Since we were all unprepared, we said goodbye/goodnight around 8:30. This was a great day but I hinted yesterday about being commissioned for some work.

The steak supper was awesome

Patty and Duncan provided dessert.
Rhubarb peach pie from Vineland
None of us were completely sold,
but it was pretty good and a nice
gesture.

Robin loved my gift so much that she has requested something for her Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland bnb's. With loosely specific instructions, I accepted the challenge. That explains the trip for more 'backdrops' at Dollarama. 😃 Wish me luck!

We reached a high of 28C/82F this afternoon and with the breeze up here, it was one of the most perfect days we've had yet. Absolutely wonderful! I hope yours was just as nice.

And good night!

Thank you for your visit to the Ridge today.

A Day for Dads, Laundromat Mess, Company for Happy Hour

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 18th we woke to one of the best mornings yet. It was 11C/52F outside and the same inside with outside feeling warmer. We both said last night that we wanted to get up and moving earlier today than yesterday. I hoped to get into the Mat for cleaning by 7:30 and he to the flying field by 8ish. Neither of us got what we hoped for.

a lovely morning

It was 7:10 when Gibbs moved and that was after I moved. My goodness! It wasn’t even that late last night when we went to bed. Oh well, we must have needed it. Gibbs was pooped after entertaining everyone around the fire. 😉 So, I sorted the dirty laundry and left before Bill. It was a few minutes after 8 when I arrived at the empty Mat and loaded 3 machines. One was for the chair covers that I took off. They are more a pain than a help so I put the quilts back one.

This was just the beginning

This was on the other side
coming from underneath - LOL

The machine I chose, started leaking ‘really’ badly and I spent the first half hour mopping up the continuous flow of water. At least it was headed for the drain but what a mess! It was so bad that it ran under the washer to the centre aisle of the laundromat so I had that side to mop up as well. I texted Sandy pictures so he could have his guys look at it on Monday. I hated bothering him on Dad’s day but it had to be done. I stuck a note on the machine “Do Not Use” and it was 90 minutes later when I left.

They were having a meeting in the laneway until
I arrived
6 adults and 12 children

I drove slowly until they found a spot to
get into the pond

I filled the water jug before driving home where I let Gibbs out to help me hang the clothes. The chair covers and a load of rags (from wiping up the water) were washed and dried while there. Then, Gibbs and I sat outside together. He found shade where he could but I sat in the sun at the picnic table and played my Wordle games. I had lunch and had to run into town at 1. I met Bill on his return trip home. Our company, Rob and Pat, arrived with Bella shortly after 2.

This is a better picture of the shepherds crook
I moved.

It's always so great to see these buddies of ours and although there seems to be long intervals in between visits, we pick up right where we left off. We had a nice visit, chuckles, stories and entertainment watching Bella try to encourage Gibbs to play. He was being a stick in the mud for some reason. They had a busy day so headed out around 3:30 or so. Big hugs all around until next time. 😉

Waiting for Daddy

Still waiting - in the shade

I worked on my puzzle to finish it and then we brought the clothes in off the line. Bill went around and locked the storage shed and Hangar and will do the same for the Bunky later. For supper, we just had leftovers. The last of the meatloaf, rice and stuffing and then we got ourselves into ‘packing’ mode. It’s been forever since we’ve had to pack a ‘to-go’ bag but we managed. It helps that the forecast is for hot, hot and more hot.

Little fluffy Bella

Happy Hour!

The kids at play

Responsible adults with the kids 😂

Daddy and Gibbs relax after a full day

This has been a really nice day. Bill got to go flying with his friends and we have laundry done for another week. We’ll have showers in the morning before we head out for our mini-vacay. 😊 I hope our friends are ready for us! Yes, Gibbs has a bag to pack too but he is a bit stressed tonight watching our movements.

A leftover meal but it filled us
and helped to empty the fridge
Good night!

Thank you for popping in to see what we’re up to. We reached a sunny high temperature of 24C/75F and that is pretty much perfect. Bill enjoyed his day and heard from all of the kids. I hope you Dads had a wonderful Father’s Day! It seems very odd that neither Bill or I have a father to call, but I believe they are still with us in many ways.

Hump Day Brings Company, Last Visit, Strange Weather

The Ridge

On Wednesday, Sept. 22nd Bill was up at 6 and after Gibbs and I came down to say goodbye, he left around 7:15. Today, his destination was Neustadt about 30 minutes from home. I didn’t have to go anywhere today, so I dawdled around for the morning with my little furball. After reading comments from friends on my blog from Tuesday, I made the decision to take my paints along this winter. 😊 Thank you to those who helped ‘push’ me in that direction.

The east morning sky
My sheets were left out all night, no harm no foul
They will be brought in before the rain

With that in mind, I went back out to the Bunky and puttered out there putting more stuff away. I brought puzzles with my 2 paint containers and nestled things neatly under the bed. It's always so neat under there when we pull out. 😀We were having company arrive later and I thought that I might make a run into town to wash the truck, after Bill assured me she would fit into the wash bay. I touched base with when Patty and Duncan might arrive and then hopped in the shower.

Everything in it's place
Besides the Christmas stuff and our extra dining chairs,
it's all my craft things 😃

Remember their ‘site’ marker that I made earlier in the summer? I moved it down towards the corner for today, giving more space between us and room for Bill to unload water if he needed. It was around 10:30 when Gibbs and I went for a walk, ever watchful at the sky. One minute, light fluffy clouds and the next brought dark heavy clouds to the north. Getting wet was not on MY agenda but we had a greeting card to get in the mail.

There were a lot of geese trying to make
their winter plans too

We didn’t get wet and rather enjoyed the walk down to the corner and back. At 12:30 our company arrived and got set up easily in the ‘new’ site. 😊 The clouds were still playing tag, like that flag football game with varying colours trying to reign. Reign not rain. We parted ways for lunch just as a few, maybe 10, drops of rain teased us. There was blue sky to the west coming our way and the black clouds moved further north.

It was a 'smell the wildflowers' kind of morning

It looked threatening but then I saw the blue sky
coming right behind it

The rest of the afternoon was catching up with their travels and talk of our future travels in 30 days or less! This month is going faster than any so far, maybe because there is a countdown and maybe because I’ve got a deadline for something. Bill has a special birthday at the end of the month so I’m planning a gathering/party for him. It isn’t a surprise so I can write this (he’s my most dedicated reader ) but he doesn’t know the details other than the place and date.

I like the way this picture turned out
It was meant to be just the wildflowers
but the way the trees fan out behind it made me smile

Of course, I had to pick some for our
mantle

With only a week and a half left to get things settled, I’m feeling a bit of pressure so it is wonderful that I’m working around the corner for a couple of weeks. There are only certain things I can plan ahead of time though so I think I’ll be taking Thursday off as well as Friday next week at least to put things in place. 😊 We had sweaters/long sleeves on and off for most of the afternoon as we chose to sit outside.

The trailer is new to Duncan and Patty and he is getting
very good at getting her parked in places
This is probably one of the easier locations

It was quite windy up here on the Ridge too so that was either a blessing, when the sun was beating down, or a curse, when the clouds were heavy. Gibbs and I took a walk to the mailbox after 3 but there was nothing to retrieve today. There was a greeting card for me yesterday but I won’t open it until my special day, which is also close.

Shepherd's Pie a la Duncan and Patty

Bill arrived home from work around 4:30, I think it was, and immediately hopped on the mower. It needs some attention to the steering so he rode it down North Line to the service shop and I followed to bring him back. It’s always something but then again, we don’t buy new equipment and things will go wrong on older machinery. It is to be expected.

We had a Happy Hour drink together, a new drink Duncan and Patty introduced to us, but I can’t recall its name. it did involve ginger beer and rum and was an interesting change. We liked it. For supper, their treat again was shepherd’s pie with coleslaw and pickled baby corn. It was delicious and I served the two options for Jell-o, one blended with cream cheese and the other with it only as a topping. I also took a few oatmeal peanut butter cookies over and it was all enjoyed as well.

Guilt-free cookies

The evening approached, getting dark so early, plus with the clouds, even earlier. It was a great day, so nice to see our friends again for one last time before we say goodbye for the winter. Bill and I watched some tv together until 11 and I went to bed with Leroy Jethro. He’d been squirming on my lap for an hour. Bless his little routine-fixed heart.

Thank you for stopping around!

A Very Indecisive Day! Haircuts, Guests Arrive

The Ridge

On Tuesday, Aug. 30th I was up at 6:30 after a restless night. We didn’t have anything but the top sheet over us all night, if that, but the one window open at the foot of the bed just wasn’t enough to give me relief. I think Bill felt the same as each time I moved, he did as well. Gibbs was up and down, on and off the bed, so he was feeling it too. Therefore, 6:30 came early.

The earliest picture today
is of the puzzle
Almost done

I left for Durham at 6:50 and Bill left by 7:30 for his job site, in Durham as well. The Mat was in a state this morning, used dryer sheets, Kleenex and the “Don’t use me” notes were all over the floor. I don’t get it and I guess I never will. Pick up after yourself, that’s all we expect! Anyway, I finished cleaning, testing one washer while I worked and left for home before 8.

I'm terrible at selfies
but it's the 'after our haircuts' pose

I’d topped up Ptooties with fuel on the way in and therefore, taking advantage of the ‘low’ (heh heh) price of $1.56/litre before the long weekend and they decide to put them up – again. She was thirsty and took $59.30. 😊 I also stopped at the bank machine to take out cash for our haircuts this afternoon. Gibbs and I spent the next hour together and managed to squeeze a walk in between the rain returned.

The sky tricked us often today

It was a fairly easy day at the auto shop, for 2 ½ hours, I cut big rags into little rags. Old sheets, blouses, t-shirts etc. work well and M gets them from the Rethreads store in town. It is a monotonous job but easy enough and we use rags all the time on the job. The last half hour, I spent wiping, taping and covering the remaining windows of the Chev, including the newly replaced windshield. Remember that incident with the ‘hood vs windshield?’ Well, now it is brand new. 😊

When it was good, it was very good. 💓

I had taken a couple of pieces of cheesecake to M, and I was sent home with food that he’d prepared. He’d made some Elvis Meatloaf and scalloped potatoes and because it was too much for one person, he wanted to share with us. A very nice gesture as it means I don’t have to cook! When I arrived home, Bill was just coming up the lane too. He was also done for the day!

Company! Duncan, Bill and Gibbs

After lunch, Kaitlyn brought my August pay to me and we chatted briefly. One bark from Gibbs as she came up the laneway and he stopped with a whine. No other sound from him while we chatted for about 15 minutes. He’s a good boy and my prayer is that he learns quickly so we can get rid of the collar. We went in to the Bunky after she left, Gibbs laying beside me on the floor. No leash. I swear that he is becoming more of a home-body with this new collar. ???

Duncan brought me some clippings from a pine tree
in North Bay
They sell wonderful!

I drove us down the road at 3:30 to Bonnies for our haircuts. We were in and out within 30 minutes or so. That feels better. Before leaving, we made one last appointment during the week before we are pulling out in October. Duncan and Patty were just getting set up when we returned to the Ridge and grateful to Bill for plugging them in and turning the fridge on. He even made Patty some ice in her freezer! 😊

Their hot dogs are awesome!

We had Happy Hour around 5 and, once more, got treated to supper. Hot dogs and corn on the cob from North Bay. It was only fitting that I provided the cheesecake for dessert. We hung around in the Airstream until about 8:30 when we came home to Gibbs and removed his collar. He’s being a very good boy and is getting rewarded for it, pretty regularly. The rain came and went, as did the sun and clouds. Some clouds darker than others and the air cooled down considerably.

I was a piggy and had 3 pieces of corn!
Yum!!

Looking forward to a nice sunny day tomorrow, we said our goodbyes. Bill brought the supper dishes home and loaded the dishwasher. 😊 It was a lovely evening and we are happy to see our friends again.

Dessert
With full tummies, I say
Good night!

Thank you for the stopover to see what we’re up to!
