A Great Day, Visitors Pop By

The Ridge

Okay, here we are again, back writing in Blogger. On Thursday, June 5th I woke, once again, from a great sleep. Didn't hear the alarm, didn't hear my boys get up and go out at 5:30. Not a peep until 6:25. Perfect! I did do my exercises and then got up to go through my ritual, just like Bill had been doing.

Good morning!
Actually, again, this is last night
after supper.
Cool air meets warm air, I guess.

He left at 6:40 and I left for the Mat at 7. Gibbs stayed home to look after the house. 😉 Just one customer when I arrived, Mr. Chatty (but a nice man) and then after he left, Sherry (the lady who lives in her van) came in. She's a pleasant lady too and is finding it quite enjoyable having her own bed, wherever she goes and stays. Boondocking, she is, here in Ontario.

Heavy skies on my drive this morning

When I left the Mat, I got water, chatted with Mark about my lawn mower battery and drove further to the hardware store. I wanted to meander through their 'home styles' section for something unique. I didn't find it - yet. I may go back tomorrow afternoon for another peek. I also stopped at North Wellington Co-op when I saw some plants out on a sales rack.

Look at that gorgeous fern!
It was kind of him to give me the deal
after I offered to put it back.
This all after he informed me that they had a
break in last night. 😠

Well! For $14.99 I'd pick up a couple more. One was a beautiful fern and the other a red geranium with dying flowers. Turns out that the fern shouldn't have been on there but John, the manager, gave it to me for the same price anyway, regular price $24.99! I offered to put it back and he said it was their fault. 😀

I'm cold, Mom
so thank you for the sweater.

Back home, under still cloudy skies, I walked around with Gibbs. Holy cow! I was feeling fine today. 💖 Bill had asked if I would please wipe up the water in Mike's trailer. When his slide is out, there is a spot somewhere that rain gets in and we are all trying to pinpoint the problem. It's a mystery, but I went out put it out enough to get in and clean up the water from the table and trim. Then I brought the slide back in, for now. I wasn't sure if we would be getting rain today or not.

How about a blankey too?
His whole body was shaking.

Then, Gibbs and I came inside and I noticed the little fella was shivering. 😟😞 It wasn't cold outside nor inside but it was that damp feeling and with no fur left on his little body, he was obviously cold. I found his flannel sweater and covered him up in my quilt until he settled down and snoozed. Poor little munchkin.

Not spoiled at all.

I got out my paper quilling and worked away at making more greeting cards. It feels good having a few already prepared for those short notice occasions (or forgetful ones!). Just before noon, as I was finishing my coffee, my sister, Gayle, called. They were in Markdale, about 10 minutes away, and were going to pop in for a short 'hello'. Good! If I'd discovered they were that close and not stopping.....well, she'd be in deep doodoo. 😂 They live over an hour away now so we don't see them often.

This was hilarious.
Chippy ran into this 15' pipe.
Gibbs knew he was in there but
couldn't get at him. I'm sure
Chippy was out the other end,
long gone. Cute to watch though.

While waiting for them, Bill drove in the lane. That was nice as he got to visit as well before they left 45 minutes later. We had our lunch together and I carried on with my paper and Bill went out to do a few small jobs. Our mailbox post got hit with the snowplow over the winter so he wanted to secure a couple of boards on that and then he hung the motion dector solar light on the outhouse. In a different spot this time, hoping it will get more sun.

Gibbs jumped up here a couple of times this morning
on his own.
Now, it is just IMPOSSIBLE, Mom!
Look at those eyes. Please give me a lift up.

He went to the Hangar until I called him up supper. Gibbs was in and out, in and out. It's humid out there so he wasn't sure where he wanted to be. Supper was ham with glaze, fingerling potatoes, corn and asparagus. Yum, it was very good and we have leftovers for a couple of nights. We cleaned up the dishes and went about our evening.

No dessert required.

There have been 2 more turtle sightings, up here, but no more laying yet. We'll keep an eye on the laneway, their favourite spot, to try and protect their nests from the skunks. I know it will be another summer of disappointments in that regard. No way can we save them when we don't know where they lay. 😞 It isn't from lack of trying, trust me.

I apologize for the poor quality picture
but I had to zoom right in with my phone camera in
order for you to see him.
He shimmied up that skinny metal pole to
get here. I guess he deserves a few nibbles!

This has been a really nice day. There have been advisories on all day regarding the air quality in areas around us and even a bit further north. The winds yesterday must have brought the smoke this way but we haven't noticed anything. When Bill and Gibbs were down at the mailbox, Dot stopped on her way to town. Gibbs was so happy to see his 'second Mom' as Bill calls her. 💕

We reached a warm 22C/72F, feeling warmer this afternoon especially if you were working outside. The black flies are still being a pest and I'm sure I'd much rather mosquitoes. I have repellent for those and I can hear them coming! It turned into a sunny afternoon and that is always wonderful. Remember that corner I mentioned a few blogs back? Well, we've turned it! 💗💗💗💗!!!

Good night!

Thank you for visiting us today.

  1. What we thought was fog, wad in fact smoke haze. I've had to stay indoors with the ac and an air purifier.

  3. Maybe the smoke will help get rid of the flies? Oh yes, I know that "I just can't get up there" look. Happens every day here! Chippy is just as cute as his name!!

    1. Maybe!! It isn't strong enough for me to notice, just a slight smell.

  5. Ya gotta try doing that traffic circle in the UK where you're driving in the other lane! Then you REALLY get mixed up!
