Happy Mother's Day, A Few Chores

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 10th it was a clear blue sky that I woke up to at 6:30. How nice for this special day! Well, my joy was short lived as soon as I saw the temperature. Yes, weather talk again. It was 0C/32F out there.

Good morning!
This was last night's sunset.
Who says clouds can't be pretty?
No one!

Bill didn't have to be anywhere but I did. We sorted dirty laundry and he carried the basket to Ptooties for me. There were two customers in the Mat and I loaded our two loads just like they did. I finished cleaning and dried the small items before I left for home.

Heading to town on
Baptist Church Rd.

I hung the rest on the line; although cold, the sun and wind would dry them. And it did. Bill was planning on working on his cargo trailer (outside) but the air was just too darn cold. He needed a day off for fun.

Turbine lane is on the way.
Makes for a nice picture.

I did some paper quilling, he hung in the Hangar and for lunch I made us buns with melted cheese and bacon. They were good, a challenge with no oven but I made it work. The day did not warm up and when I brought the clothes in off the line, in just a sweater - it was just dumb. Brrrr!

More quilling, and Bill accepted a parcel delivery from Amazon. It is another earring holder, very small but big enough for displaying at a craft show. I am still waiting to make a decision on those, just taking things day by day. Right now, I'm keeping busy and enjoying the craft.

Today I remembered to update
our anniversary plaque.

My sister mentioned watching the movie Song Sung Blue so I found it on Stack TV and watched it. Yes, it is a really good movie and I loved the music. If you like Neil Diamond, I recommend you watch it too.

Gibbs wanted out before
supper and this is what he did.
What a goof!

For supper, I had Madame IP cook pork tenderloin with onions, potatoes and then gravy. It was all delicious, just like a Sunday night meal should be. I heard from my daughter first thing this morning and we had a nice long catch up chat.

Then he looks at us as if
"what?"
Go piddle - so he does and
then runs back inside.
Joy, everyday, that's what he give me.
💘

Marilynne called  this morning while I was at the Mat to thank us for the card I made. Nice to hear how much she loved it. This afternoon, my son made his call and we did the same thing.

Supper was good
and we have leftovers.

Two of Bill's daughters sent messages and we talked to Jessica yesterday. It has been a good day, very relaxing for Mother's Day. If you are a mom, I hope you also had a great day.

Happy Mother's Day
and
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

Laundry & Shopping, But Still Enjoying Mother’s Day

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 12th we slept in. That is, after Bill and Gibbs got up at 6, they both came back to bed until 7. I washed, dressed and made my tea-to-go. Bill sorted the dirty clothes into two bundles and carried the basket out to Ptooties for me. Bill texted me as I approached Durham to tell me I forgot my tea. Darn!

Good morning!
I wonder what that sky is going to do.

So, I went through the Tim Horton’s drive through and got a medium steeped tea. Yummy! That was my own Mother’s Day treat, I guess. 😊 The Mat had 3 regular customers; one I’d forgotten about. The fellow from Cape Breton with the reeeaaallly strong accent. Of course, he had to tell me a few jokes.

Clothes on the line and the sun is coming
through for me.

Once I finished cleaning, our laundry was ready. The sky outside was still covered in clouds but I knew rain was not expected. What to do, what to do? While debating, Bridgette called to wish me Happy Mother’s Day and we chatted for another 15 or 20 minutes. I made a decision when the sun began poking through and put the blue jeans and Bill’s work shirts in the dryer and folded the lighter things to take home for the line.

I didn't show you the peanut butter cookies
from yesterday
3 ingredients: 1 egg, 1 cup of p.b., 1/4 cup sweetener (I used Splenda)

Before I came home, I nipped across the highway into the Ultramar and topped Ptooties up with fuel. She was mine tomorrow. 😊 In case you are curious, here are the fuel prices in Durham. Diesel $1.52.9/litre and Regular Gas $1.62.9/litre. One U.S. gallon = 3.78 litres. You do the math, but we are saying “diesel is down, go top up!”  When we returned home it was more than that. Hurts the pocket book.

My fudge turned out amazing!
It is just what I need to conquer my sweet tooth
without the guilt.

Back home, I hung the clothes and we all went outside together. Bill took the Rub Cadet and wagon down to pick up branches from the front field and I walked down with a pail of dahlia bulbs, evening primrose and tiger lilies. I used a forked trowel to loosen up the gate garden bed and planted some of each. I may move them around later, but for right now, it puts some greenery out there. When they flower, I can decide what is too tall, too short or just altogether not a good spot.

You may not be able to see them now,
but it will be interesting to see how things
look when they grow.

The black flies were all around me though as I finished up and pulled grass from the lilies and winter geraniums along the fence line. Eeeek! Time to go in. Bill wasn’t finished, so Gibbs and I settled in and around the Bunky until he was done. I repainted a couple of garden rocks and then we all came in for lunch. I’m using my last keto bread slice for a chicken salad sandwich. I’m ticked that Walmart here doesn’t carry anything along the line.

My supper

We’d decided we needed quite a few groceries so took a drive to Hanover’s Walmart to stock up. We took Black Beauty as Bill will be taking her to his work tomorrow and likes to start on a full tank. We found what we needed in the food line and a couple of other things that we needed. We were back home before 3 and there is this day almost gone. Bill dozed and I went out to bring the dry clothes in. There was just enough breeze today, along with the sporadic sunshine, to dry them.

Not much to show for a sunset tonight but
we had a nice day.
Get ready, more rain tomorrow! LOL

Bill did some weed trimming for the hour before supper and I relaxed with my book. I think I even dozed in my recliner with Gibbs beside me. Supper was good and filling. I baked a chicken breast in Rosy, my AF and a pork chop for Bill in the oven. He had mixed veggies and I had ¼ of a pepper squash. I could only eat half of the chicken breast; they are so plump and filling. Bill loaded the dishwasher and made his lunch. Back to work tomorrow already. Where did the weekend go?

Today, I thought of this special lady.
At 84, she swung those horseshoes with the best of us!
Miss you Mom. 💘

This has been a good day. Some chores needed to be done but there was still time to enjoy this Mother’s Day. 😊 I hope that is true for all you Mom’s out there!

To all you Moms out there!
Good night!
Thank you for popping in.

Mother’s Day and a Gorgeous Sunday

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 8th we woke up to another bright sunny day. Perfect day for all of us Mom’s to celebrate our day any way we want. 😊 Gone are the days when I would see my children for a visit. They used to come when we lived in London but since we’ve moved a distance away, I don’t expect them to drive the distance. However, what a lovely surprise that would be!

He's either saying
"are you coming, Mom?" or
"Happy Mother's Day, Mom!"

Another morning pond picture

we walked to the east this morning
past the two homes that have For Sale signs up

I had laundry to do, Bill would need his work jeans and tees this week so I made a tea in my to-go cup and headed into the Mat. It was recently cleaned (LOL one day, I’m sure I won’t even notice) and with 2 other patrons, I loaded 2 of the $4 washers. I don’t have a book on the go right now so just sat in the car for the 30 minutes and worked on my word games on my phone.

Clothes on the line

Back home, I was to learn that Gibbs was inside the house, not out with Daddy, because he was a bad boy. He followed Bill to the Hangar but instead of staying near him, he went directly to the muddy pond edge and began eating the leaves. Yeuch, how can that even be appealing? He wouldn’t ‘drop it’, he wouldn’t ‘come’ so once Bill got up him to the Suite and inside, that’s where he was. Oh dear.

Filling the bird feeders made them happy

Bill had most things out of the storage shed, today’s project, and was working away while I hung the clothes. They shouldn’t take too long to dry with the winds and the sun. I do wish the winds weren’t so strong during the day, it would be quite lovely up here. It was great to hear from my daughter, Bridgette, and she immediately knew I was outside. “Are those birds? Are you outside?” 😊 We had a nice chat before signing off.

Much of the day, Gibbs was on his leash
and we got a lot done

Bill brought out my 2 tubs of garden knick knacks and I began placing them around in their respective locations. Gibbs came out with me but I put him on his rope leash nearby. I filled 4 bird feeders and discovered yet another hummer feeder. I hope they make an appearance this summer as I’ll be making up batches of feed.

The Bunky/She-Shed holds memories

Leftover chili for lunch

Donna told me last night that the funky little hanging nest way up in that tree is an oriole’s nest. Yay! That’s awesome! I’m hoping they’ll return as well so got that feeder ready.  I took the hoe up to the garden and got almost half of it worked up, ready for planting. Around 1, we cleaned up and quit working for the day. Time to eat! We finished the chili on toast for lunch and then went back outside.

Cuddle time

Gibbs and I stretched out in the hammock and it was cool enough in the half shade for a blanket. He loves the hammock; I’d forgotten that from last summer. Now he can jump up and off easier though. I brought the clothes in around 4 and came inside for a glass of beer margarita. Happy Mother’s Day to me! 😊 It’s sad not having a Mom (or a Dad) to celebrate with on these special days but I believe she is watching over us from heaven.

The pork loin was the very last meat item that
survived the fridge 'demise'

For supper, debated cooking the pork loin roast on the Weber, like George used to, but the winds were too strong and it got too late. Instead, Madame IP did a great job! I spiced it with thyme, garlic pepper, salt, butter, brown sugar and parsley according to a recipe I found. I added potatoes and onions and when it was finished cooking, I made gravy. It was so tender and tasty! The whole supper!

We had a special meal tonight
Usually we serve it buffet style for the two of us
This was nice for a change

We talked to Bill’s youngest daughter who is living out west in Alberta before we ate. It was great to see those sweet little grandchildren. They all spent the day at a ball tournament where Jess was playing and had rosy cheeks because of it. 😊 Easton and Hadley are growing so fast, it’s great to be able to see them through the phone screen. We loaded the dishwasher and watched American Idol.

I miss my beautiful Mom today
Happy Mother's Day in Heaven, Mom!💖💖💖💖

I worked on my post and we’ll see if it gets finished tonight. This was another awesome day and I enjoyed my Mother’s Day, getting texts and phone calls from the ‘kids’. ♥ Happy Mother's Day to all you Mom's out there too!

Good night!

Thank you for stopping by!

Sunday Drive and Sunday Ride for Mother’s Day

The Ridge

We were up at 5:30 on Sunday, May 9th. Ah, it’s Mother’s Day. There is a feeling of sadness when I remember that I no longer have a Mom here to wish that message to. So, I posted a message on Facebook for all Mom’s, heavenly or otherwise and moved on with our regular day.

Lovely to see the sun rise this morning

I’d woke at 3:30, removed my ear plugs and listened. I couldn’t hear a peep coming from downstairs. I could see the night light but the crate was tucked out of sight. You know how you are with a newborn baby? If you hear something from the crib, you are almost more relaxed than when you hear nothing. Same thing here. My mind took over and I worried a bit. “what if, what if?”

With the overnight frosts we've been having, I've been moving
my Dragonwing begonia and Dianthus out during the day
and in the Bunky overnight
Soon, it should be warm enough to plant them

Common sense got the better of me and rather than disturb him by checking, I put my plugs back in and went back to sleep for another 2 hours. Bill brought Gibbs out of his crate and took him outside for a piddle and then brought him to bed with us. 😉 He was just fine and dandy! What a good little guy! He was happy to be ‘free’ though as he was very rambunctious on top of the covers, rolling and trying to nibble our ears, noses and fingers.

First ride in Black Beauty

Gibbs wanted to sit up on the console
King of the King Ranch

But Kings get tired too

When we got up around 6, I stuffed two pillows in the open spaces where he was getting behind our chairs. Then we let him roam. He likes the bit of carpet left under our dining table and chairs so slept there for a while, in his bed for a while and wandered for a while. He sure appears to be a happy little camper! When Bill wished me a sweet Happy Mother’s Day, I realized that I was indeed a Mom again.

Now you see them peepers

Now you don't

After I finished posting yesterday’s blog, I caught up on everyone else’s writings. Lots of things going on. I read a few posts on Facebook too and saw a picture of someone I hardly recognized! Love the new look, Doug! Shortly after 8 am, we called Marilynne and wished her a special day. At 9, we fed the baby and were both pleased that he ate a fair bit, indicating that he was feeling better today. Yay!👏

Ptooties got her pretty tires back

My daughter, Bridgette, called at 9:30 to wish me Happy Mother's Day and we had a nice little with her and Chris. Then, the next thing on the list, was to take Black Beauty into town to get some bread and look for something for the little guy to chew on. Gibbs got his first ride in the big truck and sat on the console. Foodland had what we needed but no toy today. In Walmart this week, I’ll find something suitable for Gibbs to play with.

The cloudy skies didn't make for a perfect ride
but we still enjoyed getting out

Back home, Bill set to work changing Ptooties tires. Time to get rid of the snow tires, maybe that has been the problem with the weather! The sun was out so I took Gibbs outside with me. We ran around a lot and rolled in the grass. He followed me everywhere which is a great sign. It made my day! 😊 Bill was still working on the tires when LJ Gibbs and I came in. I prepared a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and also made Bill’s lunch sandwich for Monday’s work.  At 11:30, my son, Patrick, called with his Mother's Day wishes. We chatted about Jazz and Gibbs. Patrick has a Labradoodle so we shared stories.🐕

He favours a snooze under our chairs on the carpet

When Bill finished with the tires, he suggested that it was warm enough to hop on Jazz for a ride. Okay! I bundled up and after securing Gibbs in the crate, we drove to Hanover. We waved hello to Gerry, Donna and Joanne and got back on the highway for home. It was only 10C/48F and since the sun had disappeared behind the heavy clouds, it was chilly. I still forgot my neck scarf which I would have been able to pull up over my nose and chin. Chilly is hardly the word but we still enjoyed an hour-long ride together.

After playing for a bit, we had our snooze on the bed

When we came home, it was only 2:30 and little Gibbs was happy to see us. He came out of his crate and went promptly to his bed. He did pretty good at looking after the house too! He took turns sitting in the chair with me and later with Bill when they had a snooze, Gibbs enjoyed chewing on his rawhide stick. Good! That’ll keep him occupied but he won’t be getting it in the crate unless we’re home. I’d be afraid of him choking. If nothing else, I’m always a Mom.

It is too bad that he just can't relax and get comfortable

There were snoozes in the chair, some crocheting happening, some rawhide chewing and then at 4:30, I went upstairs with Gibbs for my snooze. It’s like he thinks the bed is playtime as he went a little silly. 😊 Jumping, rolling and nibbling on whatever he could and then woops! He piddled. Our fault, we should have taken him out after he got up off the chair with Bill. With a "no-no" tap on his nose, we took him out to prove a point.

While sitting in my dining chair, Mr. Jay was watching
me from the back window

Back upstairs, he calmed down and we dozed. I get such a kick out of his little antics. At 5, we came downstairs so I could preheat the oven. Mediterranean chicken breasts with cheddar rice and vegetables for supper. The rice was so-so and neither of us enjoyed it with the cheese soup but we were full when finished.

Supper was good and even though the breast looks small
it was quite enough chicken

We did the dishes and I remembered the strawberry ice cream that I made a couple of weeks ago so I set it out of the freezer to let it soften. We had some later on. While we ate, Gibbs wandered around the Suite seeming quite comfortable. Bill and I were very relieved that our little boy was feeling better today. He is learning where his water dish is as well as his bed. He doesn’t shy away from us now when we approach him, recognizing his new Mom and Dad.

His hearing is incredible, he hears the camera ping before
the click and seems to pose

There is never anything really important on tv Sunday nights so I had my shower before settling in for the evening and Bill followed suit after me. This was a fun day. I enjoyed playing with Gibbs and our ride on Jazz was cool but still a treat to get out for a bit.

The sky was gearing up for a lovely sunset but we were too busy
playing with Gibbs to get a picture.
He chased us both around the front yard.
Good night!

Thank you for popping in. Best Mother’s Day wishes for those to whom it applies!
