The Ridge

On Tuesday, Oct. 1^st Bill and Gibbs both came back to bed after their first outing at 5:45. Bill didn’t have to report to work today, they finished that huge deck yesterday. What an amazing job! The owners are so pleased that they invited the workers and wives over for a Friday night meal. 😊 (Puppies too, since they know Gibbs). ♥

Good morning!
Well, this is the first thing that 'kind of' brightened our day.
The neighbours to the west of us, have put their place up for sale.
They are the ones who never cut their grass........
but it is no surprise. Bill and I have been reading the writing
on the walls, so to speak.
Be careful what we wish for? Yah, could be worse.
They've only been there for about a year and a half.

I got up at 7, leaving my sleeping ‘dogs’ lie, and got washed and dressed for the day. First off, I drove to the Mat for 8 o’clock and after cleaning there, I carried on to Hanover. Joanne still has a basement full of clothing etc. and Donna had offered to help pack things up for donation. I decided yesterday that I could also go and lend a hand. I picked Donna up at 9:30 and it took us a little over 2 hours to get things boxed and bagged up for 3 or 4 different charity locations.

to the Catholic Church in Hanover.
They will be shipped out as the need requires.

After leaving her home, we drove to the drop off location in Hanover and left 11 boxes. They load skids and ship them to either northern Canada or overseas. Joanne will drop off her 5 boxes and 4 large bags off at a couple of other drop spots. We had a LOT of clothes left over, nice clothes. She even had more friends drop in on Sunday who took a few bags home. 😊

After dropping Donna back at her house, it was noon and I felt very hungry. Tim Horton’s was calling my name so I ordered a breakfast wrap combo. I haven’t had an ice cappuccino since I retired so ordered that with a Boston Cream donut for my sweetie. He loves his donuts. I ate the wrap and drove to Dollarama. I needed to stock up on the 20 greeting cards to get us through all of the birthdays over the fall/winter/spring period when we are away. I don’t want to miss anyone’s day.

From there, I drove to Walmart and picked up the few items on our grocery list. We will be making a trip to Costco when we arrive in London after departing from the Ridge. On the way home, I stopped in Durham to fill our water bottle before returning to the Ridge. It was 2:30 when I drove up the lane. Gibbs ran out to greet me and he was surprised with the new toy I bought him. Tigger will be fibrefill free within days, but that is to be expected. ♥

We caught up on the day’s news, and Bill went out to cut the back field. Now that we’ve had rain again, the grass is growing like crazy. It was supposed to be a wet day but only a couple of small showers have been apparent, so I hope those heavy clouds don’t decide now to drop any participation! Well, sure enough, before Bill was even half way done, it began raining and he had to stop and put the mower away. It was quite heavy for a few minutes.

I hadn’t planned supper so on the spur of the moment used our last 3 eggs, (I forgot to get some!) some bacon, cucumber, tomatoes, onions and pepper for an omelette. Bill had his in a toasted sandwich and we finished supper off with a carrot cupcake. Filling enough. We cleaned up the few dishes, ran the dishwasher and settled in for the evening. Bill watched tv upstairs while I finished my blog and found something to my liking down here. 😊

It has been a good day. We reached a high of 20C/69F and will be dropping to a chilly low of 6C/42F. Yikes! I only have a few days of cleaning left (6) and Bill has only a possible 3 before he is done. We are both looking forward to the break in our routine.

The Beach, More Shopping and Another Sister

On Thursday, Sept. 12^th I was up around 7:15, ready for the day. Once more, it was a lazy morning. Since we finished the crossword last night, we only had Scrabble to entertain our minds. 😊 Donna and I played our Wordle games and we discussed the events of the upcoming day.

There was a garage sale on Mews Lane until noon so we popped in there for a quick look. I did well with $8 spent and then we drove to The Square (downtown) to peruse some of the shops. Déjà vu and DynaStyle were consignments shops, the former being very high end. We’d have to sell our trailer to buy anything but it was still fun to poke around and chat with the pleasant shop owner.

When our tummies were grumbling, we went to The Little Inn, recommended by the staff in the shops and it was lovely. I ordered a skewer of garlic shrimp and a Caesar salad and it was delicious and just the right amount. No disappointment for my food choices on this trip at all. I think everyone has been very pleased as well. It was time to head back to the cottage.

Wasting no time, we changed into our swim suits and drove to the Main Beach near the park. Well, you park your vehicle at the park and walk down the 116 steps to the beach. It was worth the jaunt and we all had a swim and stretched out on our towels for an hour or so. I love a good beach, the sand, the water (to get wet in for a few minutes) and the sun. ♥

Around 5:30, we were ready to head out again, this time to Goderich. Bill suggested Beach Street Station, a restaurant down by the marina. It looked good so we planned to meet our youngest sister for supper. She is still a full-time working gal and drove from Owen Sound to join us. 😊 The restaurant was no disappointment, right on Lake Huron.

We were seated within 10 minutes outside on their patio and tonight I enjoyed a Pina Colada, the beef dip and a small Caesar salad on the side. It was another delicious meal and half of the sandwich came home with me. It was great that Wendy could join us, it’s a long drive for her. We watched the sun set on the water, or should I say we watched the sun drop into the water? It is awesome to watch, pictures don’t do anything for it.

Nice the 6 of us could end up together tonight.

We drove home and I did something that I haven’t done in 8 years. Are you sitting down? I had a bath. 😊 It was wonderful! Living full-time in an rv does have some drawbacks. Downstairs, the girls were watching a movie and the Scrabble game was continuing. I worked on my blog, texted Bill and Gibbs to say goodnight and settled in for the evening.

Laundry & Shopping, But Still Enjoying Mother’s Day

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 12^th we slept in. That is, after Bill and Gibbs got up at 6, they both came back to bed until 7. I washed, dressed and made my tea-to-go. Bill sorted the dirty clothes into two bundles and carried the basket out to Ptooties for me. Bill texted me as I approached Durham to tell me I forgot my tea. Darn!

So, I went through the Tim Horton’s drive through and got a medium steeped tea. Yummy! That was my own Mother’s Day treat, I guess. 😊 The Mat had 3 regular customers; one I’d forgotten about. The fellow from Cape Breton with the reeeaaallly strong accent. Of course, he had to tell me a few jokes.

Once I finished cleaning, our laundry was ready. The sky outside was still covered in clouds but I knew rain was not expected. What to do, what to do? While debating, Bridgette called to wish me Happy Mother’s Day and we chatted for another 15 or 20 minutes. ♥ I made a decision when the sun began poking through and put the blue jeans and Bill’s work shirts in the dryer and folded the lighter things to take home for the line.

3 ingredients: 1 egg, 1 cup of p.b., 1/4 cup sweetener (I used Splenda)

Before I came home, I nipped across the highway into the Ultramar and topped Ptooties up with fuel. She was mine tomorrow. 😊 In case you are curious, here are the fuel prices in Durham. Diesel $1.52.9/litre and Regular Gas $1.62.9/litre. One U.S. gallon = 3.78 litres. You do the math, but we are saying “diesel is down, go top up!”  When we returned home it was more than that. Hurts the pocket book.

Back home, I hung the clothes and we all went outside together. Bill took the Rub Cadet and wagon down to pick up branches from the front field and I walked down with a pail of dahlia bulbs, evening primrose and tiger lilies. I used a forked trowel to loosen up the gate garden bed and planted some of each. I may move them around later, but for right now, it puts some greenery out there. When they flower, I can decide what is too tall, too short or just altogether not a good spot.

The black flies were all around me though as I finished up and pulled grass from the lilies and winter geraniums along the fence line. Eeeek! Time to go in. Bill wasn’t finished, so Gibbs and I settled in and around the Bunky until he was done. I repainted a couple of garden rocks and then we all came in for lunch. I’m using my last keto bread slice for a chicken salad sandwich. I’m ticked that Walmart here doesn’t carry anything along the line.

We’d decided we needed quite a few groceries so took a drive to Hanover’s Walmart to stock up. We took Black Beauty as Bill will be taking her to his work tomorrow and likes to start on a full tank. We found what we needed in the food line and a couple of other things that we needed. We were back home before 3 and there is this day almost gone. Bill dozed and I went out to bring the dry clothes in. There was just enough breeze today, along with the sporadic sunshine, to dry them.

Bill did some weed trimming for the hour before supper and I relaxed with my book. I think I even dozed in my recliner with Gibbs beside me. ♥ Supper was good and filling. I baked a chicken breast in Rosy, my AF and a pork chop for Bill in the oven. He had mixed veggies and I had ¼ of a pepper squash. I could only eat half of the chicken breast; they are so plump and filling. Bill loaded the dishwasher and made his lunch. Back to work tomorrow already. Where did the weekend go?

This has been a good day. Some chores needed to be done but there was still time to enjoy this Mother’s Day. 😊 I hope that is true for all you Mom’s out there!

Trip to Mexico, Shopping, Different Kind of Pool

On Tuesday, Apr. 2^nd we had plans for a change. Well, plans for a busier day. 😊 We were up, washed and dressed, having breakfast before 7:30. I guess that is pretty normal for us.

I took Gibbs for his walk around the park; a beautiful morning here in Winterhaven. There aren’t many guests here but those who are, appear to be very friendly and offer greetings.

Bill and I left the park at 8:30 and drove to Los Algodones, Mexico. It was our last teeth cleaning this trip. Dr. Eva Urena opens at 9 and we arrived right on time. We were a bit delayed because of the slower line coming in. You now are required to show your passport going in and let the guard take a look into your bag. My purse is tiny so it was a quick peek. I went into the chair first and 30 minutes later, I was out and Bill was in.

We had a couple of things we wanted to look for through the vendors ‘stores’ and then to the Purple Pharmacy for Bill to stock up on his cholesterol medicine. The price was crazy good and he’s good for a year at a ridiculously low price. We were able to walk through the turnstile and chatted with a couple from Kamloops, B.C. before showing our passports once more and we were home free!

The guard at this end just wants to see that you are who you should be and wants to know what you bought.  Since it was still only 11, we drove into Yuma and made the stops at Sally’s Beauty Store, Sam’s Club, Walmart and Arco. At noon, we had lunch at Five Guys. Their burgers and fries are great! Almost as good as Bill’s. ♥ Back home to our little man, we hung out (& dozed) until 2 when I slipped out and up to the pool.

This pool does not involve balls and sticks, instead towels, noodles and water. 😊 Bill joined me around 3:30 for an hour and I returned home once I was dry, around 5. It is so nice to get into a pool and a hot tub before we leave the area. We watched an episode of 9-1-1 before Bill took Gibbs for his walk and I started supper. Hot roast beef sandwiches and the last of the potato salad. We’ve had a warm day of 79F/26C and the sky has been clear blue.

This was a busy but great last day here. We’ll be back in October. Tomorrow another new adventure begins!

Pool Fun, Parker Shopping

On Monday, Mar. 4^th the Richards family was up and ready for the day by 7. Bill was finishing up in the bathroom when Gibbs and I slipped out for our walk. He was gone to the field by the time we returned around 7:45. It was another clear morning and, thankfully, the winds had died and our gazebo looks like a gazebo again. 😊

I played my online Wordle games and then took my cup and pool cue over for our games at a few minutes past 9. Four of us played today and although our games were long, we made a lot of great shots! It was fun as usual. Sheila and I tied for the win, Patti not far behind and Barb a couple of points after her. Very good, ladies! When I returned home at noon, Bill had also just got home so we had lunch together.

Today, was a shopping day and after a snooze (we both dozed – him inside and me out in my gravity chair), we drove to Walmart in Parker. I didn’t expect I’d drop off but that sun was so beautiful, it couldn’t be helped. ♥ I haven’t started another book so there was nothing keeping my attention. We managed to find everything on the list and I stocked up on my yogourt.

Our time is getting short and I know I won’t find it at home. The ‘use by’ dates are usually so far out on cream and yogourt that I’m hoping to take 2 or 3 home when we leave here. Between that and my seedless keto bread, other items are not hard to get on the journey or in our home area.

We were home by 3:30 and found homes for the food items. That’s always good! 😊 However, the freezer is stuffed.

We sat together until supper time.

The rest of the day was quiet, sitting outside on the patio together. I needed my jacket for my arms as we were in the shade and air temperature drops quickly. We did reach a lovely high of 70F/21C and it was actually, a perfect kind of day. Gibbs and I walked before supper and Bill grilled us a couple of pork chops. I fried the leftover potatoes, heated the gravy and cooked us our vegetables on the side. It was a great meal.

I didn’t even start my blog last night because Monday is tv night. The Floor grand finale first, NCIS and then NCIS Hawaii were on the agenda. All shows we enjoy. Bill put a movie on downstairs and by 9:30 I was dropping off enough to go to bed. The end of another wonderful day!
