The Ridge
On Tuesday, April 8th it was to another 'unfortunate' surprise that we woke up to. I slept in until 7:30 (!) although I did wake up when I heard Bill and Gibbs getting up at 6:15. Bill was out and in a couple of times and informed me as I got up that we had no water. Well, isn't that fun? You think you do things right but some of the water in our fresh tank has frozen. It is probably the very bottom near the exit point but for now, we will be living like Eskimos. 😕

Good morning! Last night, Gibbs was exhausted. |
It wasn't full, so there should be no concerns about the tank being damaged. We've decided to leave the furnace on all day, rather than using our other sources of heat like we did yesterday. Gibbs and Bill, mostly Bill, went out 7 or 8 or more times to gather snow in a pail to melt on the stove. This would enable us to flush the toilet and wash throughout the day. The temperature for today will not get much, if any, better than -6C/20F and another -9C.16F overnight.

The pond's edge was frozen Shadows on the berm. |
Other than that, we are plenty warm and although a bit discouraged that we can't be out doing stuff, we are quite fine. The sun is peeking through the clouds periodically but mostly a gray blanket hangs over our heads. We just relaxed for the morning, doing a few things online and biding our time. We had our sandwiches for lunch continued to monitor the water situation. When Bill got the bladder filled at Pat's on Sunday, there was more than we needed so at least we have more to use if necessary - from that source.

My Eskimos looking for 'clean' snow. |
Bill needed something to do so while I started today's post, he got out our portable file cabinet and began purging files. There isn't much point in me going through the book/dvd cupboard at this stage since there is no room in the Bunky to take the overflow. I'll just bide my time and either do more quilling or sorting through clothes. Joanne, my niece, has invited me, among others, to our Spring Clothing Exchange on May 3rd, so I have an outlet for clothes, at least. 😃 I already have a bag started.

It isn't Bill or I, but we have a snow bunny in the house. |

I think he is having fun, don't you? |
Turns out, all I did was start my blog post, read and watch YouTube videos upstairs. I tried to have a snooze when my eyes got heavy but that just isn't me so it didn't work. 💁I came down around 5:45 to start supper. It was a better plan, at least a better meal, than yesterday and I knew it wouldn't take too long to prepare. My sister, Donna, called to check on us and invite us over on Thursday, so that will be nice, giving us each a chance to catch up on the winter happenings.

Upstairs, there was some play time Left picture: his little butt is in the air. Top right: there's a puppy dog under that blanket. Bottom right: sound asleep with a tummy rub (& full exposure!) |
Supper was fried chops, cheese rice , corn for Bill and more squash for me. Yum, it was good. The chops were quite thin so frying them was the best option. We did dishes with melted snow heated on the stove. It feels very pioneer-ish. 😄 I finished my blog while we ate another ice cream cone from the freezer. That shows how we are bearing the cold........it is toasty in the Suite as we are trying to thaw that water!

The clouds are moving on. |
This has been a fine day and now you know who in the family loves the snow. He is so funny and had a wonderful time before crashing on the bed with Mom. The afternoon reached the forecasted high of 5C/24F and the beautiful sun filled the sky. I hope you had a great day.

Supper was good. Good night! |
Thank you for checking us out and for all your comments. I try to answer them so if you had a query, please refer back to the previous blog.
Well I guess it is a good thing you got snow! I hope your tank thaws soon and your weather warms up :-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Thanks MT.
DeleteHopefully, the warmer weather comes soon. At least Gibbs loves the snow.
ReplyDeleteYes he sure does.
DeleteRemember, there is a lot of winter before and after those 3 or 4 really nice summer days. July, August, and Winter. See you got back OK, without any problems. A lot of worrying and anxiety for not much happening. No telling what it will be like in the fall, though.
ReplyDeleteWe won't dwell on the fall yet. Things could change 20 times between now and then.
DeleteThat first photo of Gibbs sleeping melts my heart! Exhausted, indeed!
ReplyDeleteHe really was tired!
DeleteI thought the snow was all gone! Gibbs sure was having a good time!! Sorry about the water. I hope it warms up a bit for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gibbs.
DeleteI certainly hope the tank thaws out quickly. I grew up in a farm where we got water from a slough in warm weather and melted snow in a large barrel in the winter. It takes a lot of snow to get a little water!
ReplyDeleteGibbs is sure having fun in the snow. No doubt he needs a nap. :)
I hope the tank thaws out very soon and there is no damage from the freezing. Gibbs certainly seems to like playing in the snow.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Jackie.
DeleteHere’s hoping for sun and warmth! Furry Gnome
ReplyDeleteThank you FG.
