Wild, Windy and Warm

The Ridge

On Good Friday, Apr. 18th it was a late moving morning for us. My body is just not equipped to stay up so late any more. I never was much of a night hawk unless there was something exciting going on. Hence, my late night LAST night! We had a lot of fun, enjoying the time with family and friends.

Good morning!
On duty.

This morning, it was 8 when I got up and it was good of Gibbs to let Bill sleep in until after 7. I made a tea and listened to the winds outside, deciding what time to go and clean. There were warnings of wind gusts and some rain in the forecast so I thought best to get it over with. It was around 9 when I left.

I should have waited. A youngish mom had just arrived in a van with 3 children between about 10 and 13, maybe. They had at least 8 bags of dirty laundry and were already spread out across much of the floor space. Hmm. I had taken our chair quilts to wash so loaded them first and then got the cleaning stuff out. Hint hint. My hints didn't change anything.

Mom was very nice and the children were indifferent to me. One was non-verbal and could only make loud noises while listening to her playbook with repetitive sounds. All very understandable but it was also very loud as they loaded 8 or 9 machines, mom constantly on the move. No critique there whatsoever.

Looking out, I noticed these
woodpeckers taking advantage
of 'spring'.

When I finished what I could get to as far as cleaning, I went into the office and closed the door to wait for my dryer to finish. It had started raining steadily and the children were in and out with baskets and whatever. Children don't wipe their feet so I could see no point in mopping the floors. I didn't feel that I completed the job but I was there for an hour doing what I could.

I tried to capture the mating ritual

                                                                            on camera.

An hour later would have been perfect timing but oh well. Back home, we just had a laid back morning. Bill had eaten a late breakfast but I hadn't eaten other than yogourt so I warmed up the leftover taco meat and had two soft ones for my lunch. Delicious, even with no additional toppings but sour cream.

Gibbs and I enjoyed some rays
while my cookies baked - AFTER the winds

When Bill went to the Hangar, I began making P.B. Rice Krispie squares for Easter dinner tomorrow. While at it, I'd found a Keto Cowboy Cookie recipe to try so baked a large batch of those. They never look like the picture but as long as they taste good, I'm happy.

They are thin, crispy and delicious!
Oh, and guilt-free

It was during this process that the winds increased and gusted to 45 mph by 2:30 and the Suite was really rocking. Lucky that the winds were coming from the southwest so only hitting us head on. I debated bringing the large kitchen slide in but it only lasted for about 45 minutes and it calmed right down. Weird weather. The rain didn't last either, it was done by 10:30.

Peanut Butter Krispie squares

Gibbs and I sat outside in short sleeves and sunshine waiting for the trays of cookies to finish and when Bill came up, they had their snooze. We planned a later supper and left at 6 to go to the Catch the Ace drawing. Every Friday night, it will get us out for an hour for as long as we enjoy it. Maybe we'll get lucky one night too!

What exactly do our puppies know?
That's Dot and Capers (oh, & Gords) house
over there.

We had a glorious high temperature today of 18C/65F and will yet again experience a few more ups and downs over the coming days BUT hopefully none of the white stuff. We'll see. The locals have said that a few times over the month! Well, we didn't win but came home right after the draw, it was a small crowd of about 20 tonight, and had mushroom soup for supper. It was quite enough.

So, Easter weekend, everyone
gets into the act for the draw.

Is he reaching for my ticket?
Apparently not!

I finished working on my blog post and watched a bit of tv before bedtime. This has been a good day, after the wind!

Hope you enjoyed your Good Friday.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

  1. The birds in your photo are northern flickers. We usually have a few in the front yard but no sign of them yet. I saw our first female robin a couple of days ago. Her husband has been here for a couple of weeks battling for territory rights

    1. Yes!! Thank you, I thought woodpeckers was wrong but couldn't remember. I appreciate the correction. They were so fun to watch in their courting rituals. I can't tell male robins from females, they have all been brightly coloured so must be all males too.

  2. Cookies ..... YUM!!!!! I actually don't mind the rain, or even a little snow, but I hate wind.

  3. I imagine that mom had the same idea as you, get in early and get it done. Glad you were able to find a place to sit out.
Are you having company for Easter? We're not having any special meal, but there will be an Easter Egg hunt tomorrow afternoon. Must wait until it warms up outside. :)

    1. I'm sure you're right. She was patient but you could tell it was hectic.
Saturday's blog will answer your question. Have fun at the egg hunt!
