A Beautiful Father's Day!

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 15th, Father's Day, it was before 7 that I got up. I had things to do, places to be. Bill started sorting laundry as I got washed and dressed. I left the Suite first, headed to town to clean. Not sure what time my pilot left Gibbs in charge.

Good morning!
First thing I see as I pull out of our laneway

It was a calm morning, cloudy to start, but mild at 13C/56F. I had high hopes of being able to hang clothes on the line and when I noticed the clouds breaking up to the west, I was pleased. I cleaned everything but the floors and lightly folded the damp clothes in our basket.

Going into Durham
and
leaving Durham

It was busy enough, 6 people at various times during my hour and a half. I did the big dryers which vetted me $5.35, nothing to sneeze at! I finished up the floors and made my way home where Gibbs was waiting for me.🐶

No breeze but that hot sun will
do the job just fine

We hung the clothes, he's such a big help, and by the time I finished I was quite warm already. The clouds were pretty much gone but still no breeze to speak of. Everything still dried really quickly, the sun was very hot, and I was bringing them in at 3.

I watered the  vegetables and
that's when I noticed it.
Top picture, my first tomato!
Swiss Chard and Brussel Sprouts

I had a few other things to do so first got the hand pump going and watered my vegetables and then the flowers. The rain was not coming now until Wednesday morning, I'll be pumping for a few days! I wanted to fill Lila's back tire which was flat when we returned home..........I had no luck with that. 😕

My motorcycle gear was still on the sofa where I dropped it on Friday night so put my rain suit in the bike's saddle bag, hung my chaps in the Bunky and put my helmet and boots on the shelf in the shelter.

I replaced one of the handlebar grips on Lila, after cutting off about an inch. The other one has the mirror on it so I will have to get out 'my' (Bill's) tools for that one!

The top book looked interesting
but for .50¢ each, I had to pick up
some of my school favourites.
I loved Grammar and English
classes and these books? Loved them!

Next, I emptied the books (most for Alexander when he's here) from yesterday's sales, into my She-shed and put my backpack out there too. Let's just say there were a lot of back and forth trips to which Gibbs followed me each way. 💖

I pulled some rhubarb out of the freezer for dessert and a steak for supper. It sounds like I did a lot but it wasn't much in the whole scheme of things. 😂 Inside, I dyed a white dress that I got at the clothing exchange and I felt very much like Pioneer Woman!

I felt like Pioneer Woman washing
the family's clothing.
Good thing it is only 1 dress, my wrists
couldn't take the wringing out.

Using the hand pump with rain water to rinse and wash, rinse and wash, tossing the used water over the brush pile. I didn't want to be using our fresh water from the tank any more than I had to. It worked just fine and now I have a blue dress that will certainly be worn more often.

I hope it looks better on than it
does here,
It still isn't dry.

Bill was home from flying late, which I expect on these calm days. I was busy outside until 1:30 when I decided to eat my lunch and I'm not sure what he ended up eating. I don't have to worry about him, if he's hungry, he'll get himself a sandwich.

Supper was good.
We need to buy better steak,
they were cooked perfectly but the taste is lacking.

For supper, he grilled the steak, I fried potatoes and warmed my cauliflower. We had salad on the side and custard and stewed rhubarb for dessert. Very filling and very 'Sunday-ish'. Yes, he grilled on his special day  but he doesn't mind. He's not my dad, he says. 💕

Custard, as good as always

Bill hinted last night around the
fire pit that 'some rhubarb would be nice'.
It was very good, sweetened with Splenda.
💞

He heard from 'most' of his girls, probably the last one this evening, and my two so he's had a great day. I have too and we reached a wonderful 25C/76F this afternoon. I hope all you dad's have had a great Father's Day! You deserve it!

We have a lot of daisies growing wild
around the Ridge so some had to
come inside. They are such a bright, happy
flower.
Good night!

Thanks for popping by.

  2. I agree with Nancy about the custard - it sure looks tasty. Hand washing, not to mention dyeing something is hard work for sure. Sounds like a nice day.
