Saturday - Off to a Running Start and Finish!

 The Ridge

On Saturday, June 14th it was a bit of a slow moving morning to start for me. That soon changed. Firstly, Bill was up and off to the flying field before 8. Gibbs dutifully watched him leave the Suite, hook up and didn't stop until Black Beauty was out of sight. 💗

Good morning!
My drive to Markdale was
under blue skies.

I had my tea and since I had a blog to write from our day in Port Dover, Gibbs sat behind me as I sorted through the 50+ pictures and wrote the 'story'. It still didn't get finished until Saturday night! (pictures that follow are from our late afternoon)

During the lacrosse game, I stood
behind the glass where Rogers TV was
broadcasting. A good view of the screen shots.

From inside I couldn't see all of the game
so it was kind of handy for me.

To answer a question from a commenter, there is more to Friday the 13th in Dover than a show and shine. It is not an unusual query, I'm sure lots don't know the history. This is it in a nutshell but you can Google it for more details if you wish. 😃

It is a gathering of motorcycle riders. Since 1981, a few friends (5) got together for the first time in Dover. More and more joined each year and from 5, it has grown to over 200,000 riders. Only bikes are allowed and yes, it is a show and tell of sorts too.

Roz and Brian looking busy.
They were selling Catch the Ace tickets,
which starts again June 27th, and drink tickets.

The next one in a fairweather month (August) is in 2027, maybe I'll be ready again by then! Today, I texted back and forth with Robin a bit and she informed me that Markdale (a town just a few miles away) is having a town wide yard sale. Oh-oh. Can't pass that up! 💖

At 9:30 I was changing my quiet day by going 'shopping'! I love it when a town comes together and participates as it is disappointing for those that drive a distance and only a few places have sales. I found a few bargains and enjoyed myself, spending less that $20.

I could watch the in-between period
action where little people went out to practice.

On the way home, I picked Donna up at the Acreage (she wasn't available earlier) and we went into Durham's Book Sale. This is by donation only and we each found a few books to bring home with us. A stop at Foodland for milk, cream and my Carbonaut bread and I took her back by 1:15.

I had the quiet exit, most spectators
were sitting at the far end for a better
view. Worked for me!

It had warmed up to a beautiful day by then. Bill nor I had eaten so we had one of my garlic knots. They are tasty but a little tougher than I'd hoped. I'll try again, we enjoy them on occasion even though we shouldn't eat too many.

I apologize for the blurry picture but
this little 3 year old was having a ball out there
at intermission.

We relaxed until 3 and before 3:30 slipped into our yellow Lion's Club t-shirts. We were on Security duty at a lacrosse game at the Community Centre, our first volunteer job. Don't worry, Nancy, I know how to say NO. 😉

A bit of a goofy picture but
I was trying to look tough (& serious)
while on the job.
Didn't have to rough anyone up so I guess
it worked!

We only had to stand at the doors, me at an Exit, to ensure no alcohol left the building. Easy, and I enjoyed the excitement of the game! Owen Sound vs London and O.S. won by 3 points.

One of my favourite ways to eat
fries.
Yum!

We were done at 6:30 but decided to order supper from the concession booth. I had poutine and Bill had fries. Both were very good and at home we added even more calories with a drumstick. Woops! 😂

The sun going down behind the trees
at the Acreage.

We needed to get a bladder of water so Gerry invited us for a fire. After changing, we drove over around 7. We didn't stay long, enough to christen the night with our first campfire of the season with Donna and Gerry. Gibbs was a ball of energy, chasing his ball - a lot.

We're not used to being out when the cool
air moves in yet, so around 9:30, we
came home to the Ridge.

When we got home, I felt really tired but surprised myself by staying up long enough to finish my blog. This one is late too and my Saturday turned into a busy one as well. That's okay, it was a great day. Another good sleeping night.

Their Toronto Maple Leaf flag on the gazebo
kept twisting, it bothered Bill enough that he did some
finagling so it hung straighter.
Gibbs on Aunt Donna, finally had enough
running around. 💓🐶

Thank you for your visit. We had a high of 25C/75F, perfect in my books!
