Hump Day, A Short Ride

On Wednesday, Nov. 19th Gibbs slept in until 6:15 and then could wait no longer. He crept up (seriously) in between us and lay across Bill's neck. Time to wake up Daddy! So cute, he tried not to move too much too early, I was awake just before 6 and watched him.

Good morning!

Bill got ready to go flying and I made a tea since we weren't walking until 8. I had an orange, thank you Jim, and met Diane and Sue at a few minutes ahead of time. We did our walk around the park a couple of times and even though only 15 minutes, it was getting us out.

I met the Coffee gang in the clubhouse at 9 and Sue had baked a tasty little blueberry loaf. There were 7 of us today, a little more chit chat. Before returning home, I worked on the puzzle until 11:30. Bill was home at noon for lunch and when he settled back for a snooze, I did some crocheting.

My hobbies/crafts come to me in spurts and right now it feels good to work with yarn. 😃 Bill went over to Jim's again to work on a plane and I crocheted more. Taking the advice of my friends aka mamas, I took Lila to the corner and back. That was enough!

It felt better, the short distance and a wise decision. 😉 and then made a dish of apple crisp. Madame IP will do the baking and only take a few minutes so I left it sit and at 3:15 made a tea and went to the puzzle for an hour.

Supper was good.

For supper, we air fried chicken thighs and I pan fried potatoes. With dessert tonight, we just had pickles for our vegetable. Everything was great and filling. We cleaned up the air fryer and fry pan by hand and started the dishwasher. I used the inner pot for the crisp so it wasn't empty yet. yay!

This has been a good day with a little bit of a few things. We reached 66F/16C with a lot of clouds from early morning to late afternoon. No rain today though but maybe more in the coming days.

Hump Day, Cleaning and Chip Day

The Ridge

On Wednesday, Sept. 25^th I woke up from dreams a few times and felt exhausted each time so had no problem dropping right back off. I think my son, Patrick, jinxed me when he called me last night just as I was readying for bed. He said he has been awake a few times through the night lately………………….I said, I don’t usually wake up until 5 or 5:30. See? Jinx! 😊 But I’m happy he called; we had a nice chat.

 Got up at 6:20 just in time for that goodbye kiss and then crawled back into bed for half hour. I left for the Mat at 7:20 and walked in to an empty building. 😊 It wasn’t half bad either so I took care of business quickly, still documenting the hour even though I was 10 minutes shy. I left there and drove to Foodland for bread, for Bill’s sandwiches, and a couple more greeting cards for various occasions. Their price is $2.49 so that’s great.

Back home, I made up the list of winter birthdays, in order, so I know how many cards I need to pick up before we leave. I am old fashioned and like Mom, still like the practice. ♥ She got it from her mom and probably hers, before that. It didn’t carry on into the next generation though, seldom do the offspring send them. Times-a-changin’. Once the list was made up, I made a coffee and Gibbs and I went out for a bit.

I put the puzzle away yesterday and so today, pulled out the squishable vacuum bags in the Bunky. Seems like the mice and/or Chippy got in there last year so we’ll put out the poison plus, I’ll not leave anything unpacked for them to nibble on. My sweater took the hit last winter so I need to take more precautions. Slowly, I’ll clean things out in there and after this weekend, clothing exchange, I’ll have more room. 😊

Happy but thirsty.

I had some toast, meat, cheese and tomatoes for lunch and then Gibbs and I drove to town. He had an appointment with the vet to get micro-chipped, plus a refill on his antihistamine. Because he doesn’t like the doc who comes at him with a sharp needle, we all agreed to muzzle him today. 3 of us have a hard job holding him still and I want it to be as smooth as possible. We managed and got the heck out of there! The bill was not near as bad as I expected, no consultation fee today. Phew!

After leaving the vet, we drove to the Day Use Conservation area. I wanted to see what he did at the water. I soon found out that it is just a huge water bowl for him so after he drank, I lifted him into the 4” deep water. He didn’t panic, but slowly walked himself out. ‘Thank you very much, Mom, but no thank you’. 😊 So, we walked further, through the trail along the river until he dried off.

He was a good boy today, despite the bum probing and sharp object jabbing. ♥ At home, I gave him his first dose of the pills to ease his discomfort. Bill was home by 5:30 and had his snooze. I don’t think he slept well last night or else overdid it today. 😊

I started supper at 6 and it was a simple meal of pancakes and sausage. The maple syrup and butter make it taste like a supper for royalty! Ha ha. Mine were keto pancakes and I enjoyed them just as much.

We had strong winds today.

and they calmed right down to nothing.

After cleanup, it had started raining so Bill made his lunch and planned his evening indoors tonight. I worked on my blog and watched tv. Last night’s movie isn’t worth mentioning, I wish I hadn’t wasted my time. Is Survivor on tonight? I’ll be checking on that! It was a good day even though mostly dull from morning until night. We did have a few splashes of sunshine keeping the day’s temperatures decent.

Hump Day

The Ridge

On Wednesday, July 17^th Bill knew he didn’t have work today. That was nice as it gave him the chance to sleep in a bit. It was still 6:30 when he got up with Gibbs but that is sleeping in for him. 😊 At least he didn’t need the alarm set. I was awake at 4:45 for some reason and although I felt quite comfortable, I couldn’t seem to drop back off other than in fits and starts.

What a beautiful sky this morning on my
way into town.

I got up just before 7 and got washed, dressed and headed to town with my tea. I took an extra top to change into before leaving the Mat as I was driving to Hanover after that. Once arriving in town, I fueled up at the Ultramar across from the laundromat. The Mat was quiet and pretty normal as far as cleaning goes. I did do the big dryer lint removal so it took an extra half hour this morning.

I changed and drove to the Hanover Medical Centre. I pulled into the parking lot, got a ticket and noted the time. Because of an irregular count in my thyroid level, doc asked me to get another one in a couple of months. That means now. 😊 I didn’t need an appointment and the 5 people ahead of me were in and out, as was I, within 20 minutes. Yay, that meant I didn’t have to pay to park, first 30 minutes is free. It’s still cheap, only $3, with proceeds going toward patient care.

Bill went for water while I was away this morning
and when I returned, Gibbs and I enjoyed the hammock.

I swung around to Donna’s and dropped off her water bottle that she left in my car on Sunday and then went directly to Walmart. I had a list about ‘yay’ long and found everything on it, plus a few extras. With a stop in Durham to get our water bottle filled and Bill’s Coke at Foodland, I texted him that I was on my way. It was 7:30 when I left home and now 11:30. I was ready to stop and get a bite to eat. 😊

It was 3 overfull loads in the
utility trailer and that makes for a lot of added
brush to the pile.

Bill was in the laneway with Black Beauty and Gerry’s utility trailer. It was full, overflowing with the cuttings from the lane. He moved up out of the way and off loaded it while I off loaded the 4 bags of groceries. We have company coming on Friday so I wanted to pick up some lunch meats and buns for a change from regular bread. I find it makes the sandwiches taste better! I had the last of my broccoli cheddar soup for lunch and then we went back out to the lane.

My 3 pepper plants are producing quite well.

I didn’t do a lot but did help with one more, the 3^rd and final, load of brush from the lane. It looks so much better. Bill and Gibbs had their snooze in the hammock, in the partial shade/sun and I started a puzzle in the Bunky. My ankle was aching from when the door hit it the other day (some times I’m an accident waiting to happen) and I was feeling so tired, that at 3, I came in to take a Tylenol and have a rest myself. The boys were awake and Gibbs joined me.

I was up at 4 and Bill was down at the Hangar. Time for a cup of tea and make a decision about supper. Hmmm. Today, I went back and forth with Robin about some work dates coming up so that’s good. I already knew her and Andrew would be in Manitoba a lot of August. Jessica and I will be busy. 😊 Gibbs and I wandered down at 5:30 to see what Bill thought about supper and when he suggested fish and chips, I was sold.

So, I went into the Bunky to start the puzzle.

We started within a few minutes of that decision and it was a good meal. I’m disappointed in the frozen fish I bought this time. It is sole filets but they are very thin this time. I don’t buy fresh and when we buy coated fish, it has to be the deep fried type. Breaded is yeuchy to us. LOL We finished off the keto cake and the whipped cream so that makes more room in the fridge for the new stuff. 😊

After clean up, Bill went to the Hangar. He’ll make his lunch later IF he gets the word that they’ll be working. He’s off on Friday, by choice, so he’s hoping for one more day of employment this week. We’ll see. PS - add on - Bill is working tomorrow. 😀

Supper.

This has been a lovely day, really. Some clouds and some wind but a lot of sunshine. We reached 23C/73F with no complaints whatsoever. I’ve been watching reruns of the series Reacher (from Lee Child’s books) and am enjoying them all over again. He’s my tv hero. ♥

Hump Day, More Neighbours Move

The Ridge

On Wednesday, May 31^st we smoothed into the last day of this month. It appears smooth, at least, already well into our summer routine. I can’t say that mine is exactly the same as last year, but at least I’m cleaning the laundromat every other morning. I was up at 6:15 to say goodbye to Bill and then within half hour I was out the door myself.

I stopped at the post office to mail some cards and then the bank for some cash. The Mat was empty but still looking good from Monday’s cleaning. Two male customers came in to drop loads in the machines and left to wait the time out. Most go for coffee at Tim Horton’s, some run errands and others just wait in their cars. I am still surprised with the number of men doing the laundry. Are they all single?

One look in the Lost and Found box sindicated that some of the clothes had been retrieved but not all. These have been left for 2 weeks, so I checked them for damage. Any odd socks or items with stains or rips went in the garbage. They’d been washed and dried so I folded the good ones and put them in a bag to donate them. There is still another load, from a different family, in the dryer so they were folded and then put into the Lost and Found. They’ve been here a week so I'll wait until next week to add any left to the bag. LOL

Then, I cleaned. By the time I finished, I’d worked for 90 minutes so I marked the calendar, totaling May’s hours for Sandy. I’ll text him tomorrow so he can pay me. I was back home before 9:30. Gibbs and I sat outside in the shade for a while, semi-watching and listening to the goings-on next door. Our neighbours to the west were moving out today. They must have had a lot of furniture with one large panel truck with two loads and 2 pick ups with cargo trailers. I suppose compared to living in an rv, any household has a lot of furniture! Then we’ll find out who our new neighbours are! 😊

To kill some time, we drove to Riverside Park in town

At 11:30, I took Gibbs to the vet for an 11:45 appointment. Since they were running behind, we went to get the water bottle filled and then took another 15 minutes walking through Riverside Park behind the Ultramar station. I’d never walked through there before. It needs attention, some weeding in the gardens and grass cutting but it was nice enough to help us kill some time.

so we stayed off it.

We returned at 12:05 and she was ready. Gibbs got his annual vaccine and checkup. He is in A-one shape and weighs less than we thought. Since we use the same scales for ourselves at home, maybe we do too! 😊 Back home, the Suite was comfortable since we had things closed up and the a/c set to run when necessary.

I didn’t want the little guy running around after his needle so we stayed inside while I had lunch and then I slipped out to work on the puzzle for an hour. She said he might be lethargic so it was good to let him sleep where it was cooler. The heat outside had reached 30C/86F, as expected, but there was a nice breeze from the two windows in the Bunky. This is a difficult/challenging puzzle but that just makes me prouder when I accomplish a few pieces.

Bill didn’t get home until 5:45 again but I had supper planned and all set to start by then. Spaghetti and meatballs were on the menu for a change. I had spaghetti squash in place of noodles and it was all very good and filling. Bill went to the Hangar and I wrote my blog post while watching NCIS reruns from the days of ‘Gibbs’. 😊

Supper waas good. 

We’ve started seeing Mrs. Yertles’ around again so will need to drive slower up the lane and be careful where we walk. They are trying to find the perfect place to lay their eggs. ♥This has been a pretty good day.

Hump Day and We’re Almost Over the Hump!

The Ridge (long winded today)

On Wednesday, Oct. 12^th I left the Suite first. At 7:10, I drove in to the Mat. I was meeting Beth, a new ‘hiree’ for the winter. She is retired, a bit younger than me and looking for something for the cold months to keep her busy. She admits she retired too early perhaps as she needs something to do. 😉

We hit it off and although Sage had cleaned after school yesterday and the place was pretty clean, I took Beth through the motions and recleaned all over again. Kaitlin popped in (I’ve been spelling her name wrong!) and put up new signs and went over some things with Beth as to her start date etc. It was an hour and a half later when I left with the place sparkling. 😊

I called M to see if he was ready, so I could pick him up on my way home to go back and get his car. That’s what we did and I drove home alone, turning onto the west end (south?) of North Line. It was a nice gravel road with more lovely autumn trees for my camera to enjoy.

Bill wasn’t home when I returned, as expected, he had an appointment for an oil and filter change on Black Beauty. Apparently, it didn’t end there as she needed two new batteries. We knew that was up and coming so weren’t surprised. With that done, he was home before lunch and I started the pancakes and sausage. It’s been a while since we’ve enjoyed that.

After dishes, Bill did some banking and I cut up the 8 apples I’d brought up from the front tree. Once I cut the marks out and peeled them, I ended up with about 3 – 4 cups, enough to make something with but decided to blanch them for freezing instead. We don’t need another dessert right away. 😉 (Wha???) Bill and Gibbs had a snooze so I decided to sit beside them and play my word games.

We’ve made a Costco grocery list for tomorrow, that is next on the list. No matter how much we figure we’ll spend, it is always more so we’re prepared to leave a sizeable donation. Today, I thought I’d get the extra iris and hosta bulbs planted, that inadvertently got dug up in my trimming. It doesn’t hurt to split them up anyway, actually I’m sure it is recommended and mine are getting quite overcrowded.

But instead of planting them, I gathered the apple tree branches down at the road and put them in a pile for the next time I’m down there with my wheelbarrow. When Bill went to the Hangar to install a new locking mechanism on the door, I brought one of the pretty pumpkins in for cutting up. No point in making a Jack-o-Lantern up here since we won’t be around on Hallowe’en so I cut the top off and scooped out the innards.

Just not sure yet why I was doing it, I cleaned up the seeds and found a recipe to bake them in Rosy. 😊 All of the talk is that they will take less than half the time in an air fryer and will turn out even crispier. Since I don’t have an oven, to speak of, I’ll try it! I spiced them with olive oil, salt, pepper and seasoning salt and popped them in for 20 minutes.

Kaitlin sent us ladies home this morning with 6 Pumpkin Snicker Doodle cookies and although they are too ‘cakey’ for my taste, Bill loved them. This put me in the mood to salvage the pumpkins for some baking this winter. Maybe the American Thanksgiving?

We all went outside earlier and I took my big camera up the hill and back through the field looking for the two gray herons we’ve been seeing over the last couple of days. My phone did okay but with my zoom, I am hoping for better than ‘okay’. Now to find them again. Gibbs and I walked down the lane and to the corner around 3:30 and when we returned, Bill came up with us to relax for the rest of the day.

My pumpkin seeds are delicious! I’ll do the same with the other two pumpkins, they make a nice snack. I made a cup of tea and poured a Zero Coke for Bill. Gibbs stretched across the back of my chair and I read for a bit. Bill sat thinking about writing a post for his blog – maybe. You’ll find out at www.clembillpat.blogspot.com later. Maybe not today but soon perhaps. 😉

Dessert

For supper, we had fish and chips. Rosy got used again along with our Fry Daddy. They were good! Bill had a pumpkin cookie for dessert (I knew we’d have something) and I had a Chapman’s ice cream bar. ♥ We had a few programs on our PVR to watch so settled in for the night after dishes were taken care of. NCIS Hawaii first and then 9-1-1. It was an entertaining evening.
