A Day for Dads, Laundromat Mess, Company for Happy Hour

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 18th we woke to one of the best mornings yet. It was 11C/52F outside and the same inside with outside feeling warmer. We both said last night that we wanted to get up and moving earlier today than yesterday. I hoped to get into the Mat for cleaning by 7:30 and he to the flying field by 8ish. Neither of us got what we hoped for.

a lovely morning

It was 7:10 when Gibbs moved and that was after I moved. My goodness! It wasn’t even that late last night when we went to bed. Oh well, we must have needed it. Gibbs was pooped after entertaining everyone around the fire. 😉 So, I sorted the dirty laundry and left before Bill. It was a few minutes after 8 when I arrived at the empty Mat and loaded 3 machines. One was for the chair covers that I took off. They are more a pain than a help so I put the quilts back one.

This was just the beginning

This was on the other side
coming from underneath - LOL

The machine I chose, started leaking ‘really’ badly and I spent the first half hour mopping up the continuous flow of water. At least it was headed for the drain but what a mess! It was so bad that it ran under the washer to the centre aisle of the laundromat so I had that side to mop up as well. I texted Sandy pictures so he could have his guys look at it on Monday. I hated bothering him on Dad’s day but it had to be done. I stuck a note on the machine “Do Not Use” and it was 90 minutes later when I left.

They were having a meeting in the laneway until
I arrived
6 adults and 12 children

I drove slowly until they found a spot to
get into the pond

I filled the water jug before driving home where I let Gibbs out to help me hang the clothes. The chair covers and a load of rags (from wiping up the water) were washed and dried while there. Then, Gibbs and I sat outside together. He found shade where he could but I sat in the sun at the picnic table and played my Wordle games. I had lunch and had to run into town at 1. I met Bill on his return trip home. Our company, Rob and Pat, arrived with Bella shortly after 2.

This is a better picture of the shepherds crook
I moved.

It's always so great to see these buddies of ours and although there seems to be long intervals in between visits, we pick up right where we left off. We had a nice visit, chuckles, stories and entertainment watching Bella try to encourage Gibbs to play. He was being a stick in the mud for some reason. They had a busy day so headed out around 3:30 or so. Big hugs all around until next time. 😉

Waiting for Daddy

Still waiting - in the shade

I worked on my puzzle to finish it and then we brought the clothes in off the line. Bill went around and locked the storage shed and Hangar and will do the same for the Bunky later. For supper, we just had leftovers. The last of the meatloaf, rice and stuffing and then we got ourselves into ‘packing’ mode. It’s been forever since we’ve had to pack a ‘to-go’ bag but we managed. It helps that the forecast is for hot, hot and more hot.

Happy Hour!

Daddy and Gibbs relax after a full day

This has been a really nice day. Bill got to go flying with his friends and we have laundry done for another week. We’ll have showers in the morning before we head out for our mini-vacay. 😊 I hope our friends are ready for us! Yes, Gibbs has a bag to pack too but he is a bit stressed tonight watching our movements.

A leftover meal but it filled us
and helped to empty the fridge
Good night!

Thank you for popping in to see what we’re up to. We reached a sunny high temperature of 24C/75F and that is pretty much perfect. Bill enjoyed his day and heard from all of the kids. I hope you Dads had a wonderful Father’s Day! It seems very odd that neither Bill or I have a father to call, but I believe they are still with us in many ways.

Happy Father’s Day!

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 19th we all slept in. That was after the initial ‘take Gibbs out’ excursion, of course. It was 7:30 when we got up and sorted the laundry. There was no reason to rush, the Mat would be there when I arrived. 😉 It turned out to be 8:15 when I let myself in with our clothes. One dryer was in use, but other than that there was no one around until I was removing our clothes from the washers. She was kind enough to offer to pick me up a coffee, which I politely declined. I had my mug of tea.

On Friday, I missed getting the whole laneway
of the garage sale home

When I left there, I drove to Foodland to pick up milk and bread and then to the Water Store to fill our jug. On the way back home, I stopped at the Garage Sale to see if the 2nd finch feeder was still available. Boohoo, it wasn’t but as I was walking away, I noticed a wagon with 3 pails of rhubarb for sale. Yahoo! She gathered me a large bundle and accepted my $2 with a shrug. I don’t think she really wanted the money. 😊

Today, I scored with a lovely bunch
of rhubarb - yay!

Back home, Bill had finished getting and loading water into our fresh water tank and dumping our black tank. He’d been busy too. I hung the clothes and he was deciding on whether to go to his flying field. The winds had died overnight and were calm this morning but by 10:30, they were increasing. His final ruling was to stay home and instead bring out one of his big planes to putter with. It’s his day and I just didn’t want him to be working on the yard.

Bill doing what he wants on Dad's Day

It wasn’t my day, so I went up to push my fence stakes for the garden into the ground. I’m still doubting this will get finished today. I planted the mint plants, finally, in the flower box just off the patio. Gibbs seems to like to upset the apple cart and wanted to grab at them and run. He got his bum smacked and chastised so he decided he’d better leave things alone – for now. I don’t know what the interest is.

Gibbs got in trouble for barking
so curled up in his bed beside me

After watering the potted plants, I was done for the day as well and went to work on the puzzle. Gibbs had been running around, down with Daddy, into the mud, up with me and all around the property but he was tricked onto his rope when I went inside the Bunky. He forgets that we are actually smarter than he is not to mention the Masters. 😊 Ha ha.

The sky was pretty nice when we started out

there was a detour near Mount Forest
so Bill had me totally lost as he followed it

Around 1, I came inside to make an egg salad wrap for my lunch – Bill had eaten earlier – and half hour later Bill came up to get ready for a bike ride. By then the clouds were moving in and I was finding the 17C/63F a bit cool so made sure to layer up and pack my chaps in Jazz’s saddle bag. It wasn’t bad at all, well, for the first hour and then the clouds got heavier and I could feel the chill. The sun poked in and out occasionally so I was comfortable enough.

No Go-Pro camera today but next time
we'll try it again

"One of Ontario's Prettiest Little Towns" (I think)

My sisters and I have eaten here at
Noah's Inn during LadyFest
Busy place, usually but looking pretty quiet today

I was pleased when Bill pulled into Jenny G’s chip wagon on the south end of Hanover. Even though I’d eaten a wrap, I wasn’t going to deny that fries sounded great. It was 3:00 by then and this will be our supper. Yay! Bill had a bacon cheese burger; I had a jumbo dog loaded and we shared a large order of fries. They were delicious and we didn’t have to cook!

We've not been disappointed here
Today was no exception

We hopped on the bike to leave shortly before 4 and the ride home was good. We needed that break and I felt warmer. We can call this our own personal “Ride for Dads”, thinking of our fathers in heaven today. Gibbs was happy to see us, as always, and I went up to bring the clothes in off the line. We’ve had supper so the rest of the evening felt quite freeing! I did make a cup of tea once we got things put away. That was good.

Yup, quite yummy

We are expecting rain of some sort overnight or this evening and at 5:30, it sure looks like they may be right. This was a wonderful day and we were glad that the winds had abated to some degree.

Yesterday, I talked about how damaging they can be but I didn’t have this picture until after I posted my blog. Donna and Gerry went home from the Acreage to find that her outdoor plant shelf had blown over. Those clay pots aren’t made to survive a fall so luckily Dollarama sells them.

Thankfully, her plants all survived

Good as new!
Gerry strapped it to the railing this time ♥

Bill has heard from 4/6 children today, 1 being my daughter , 3 phone calls and 1 video chat from the little gaphers out west. They are growing so fast!

What a Happy Father’s Day!

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 20th Bill brought Gibbs up into bed around 6:15 and it was the jiggling around on the bed that woke me and caused me to roll over and greet them. 😊 So, it took about 20 minutes this morning for him to relax and fall into a deep sleep. At 7:30, I needed to use the bathroom so had to disturb the family. We made our coffee and tea and set to work.

Our company arrived and Easton helped me carry the toys
I'd picked up for him out of the Bunky

Bill went out with the mower and started cutting out front. I went out with Gibbs and helped by moving some of our patio furniture. Inside, I let Madame IP make a batch of macaroni for salad. It took 4 minutes with a quick release. How simple was that? I set it in the fridge to cool and dusted and vacuumed the downstairs. It wasn’t too bad but we had moved a few things to make room for company in case we needed to sit inside.

Hadley was so cute in her little summer outfit

It was gearing up to be a hot day so we left the Suite plugged into power and turned the a/c on to 24C/75F. It didn’t come on right away but it was sure appreciated when it did. Bill had some toast and I had a piece of my quiche around 10. We were expecting Jess and Matt around 11 and we’d be eating around noon so didn’t want too much. It was quite an event, getting the kids, toys, bed/seat, snacks and drinks out of the car but between the two of them, they had it down pat. 😊 Oh to be young!

who's face is that peeking out of the baby's seat

Oh, now we know who it is!

We visited, they met Gibbs and it was comical to watch Gibbs and 2 ½ yr. old Easton. Neither of them had seen someone (human or dog) so small. Gibbs kept jumping up and we were afraid he’d nip Easton’s nose or scratch his legs so we watched closely. It was quite a shuffle but Bill started bbq’ing burgers and dogs while inside I put the salad together and got the condiments out on the island. We’ll fill our plates inside and eat out at the picnic table.

Hadley meets Gibbs and he is very gentle with her

She was very happy with a full tummy and a clean bottom 😉

In order to relax, we had to keep Gibbs and Easton separate and when we ate, we left our baby indoors. He was quite happy for the better part of two hours. It was cool and the fresh air and excitement had worn him out. Outside, Easton had his Mom and Dad hopping with playing ball, colouring and keeping him out of my flowers. LOL What a little character! Jess fed Hadley a couple of times during their stay and she was a good little baby the whole time. 😊

Easton's big dog at home has a crate

I'm thinking there is room for Easton it it
but not so for this one

as he was backing up to get out, Gibbs crawled in
and was licking his face 🐕

I ate things I shouldn't have but just today
I've been behaving!

some were allowed, and others weren't

Hadley was having fun with Grandpa

When they packed up and left at 2:30, we came inside and while I loaded the dishwasher, Bill and Gibbs crashed. I prepared my motorcycle (hot day) gear and fitted the new ‘back/front pack’ to my body over the jacket I’d be wearing. When Bill woke up around 3:30, we were ready to head into town. A short bike ride on Jazz was in order as a test for Gibbs and a visit with our buddies. It was fun (interesting) getting the little furry bum into his pack. He wasn’t thrilled.

Proud Grandps and a sweet little 6 mth Hadley

He behaved quite well, really, for the 15-minute ride but was even happier to get out and meet Rob and Pat. We sat inside for an hour and a half (or was it 2 hours?) and had a lovely catch up visit. The time flew by! It has been way too long since we’ve done that, seen them. They were heading out tomorrow with the trailer so this was important. It was after 5:30 (although I didn’t know it at the time) when we loaded up and hopped on Jazz again.

Before they left, Easton sat on Jazz for a picture
He's such a cutie

Gibbs struggled, this time he knew what was in store but he actually behaved better on the ride home. At one point, on the highway, he calmed enough to lay down in his pack. When we got home, it dawned on me that it was 6 o’clock! We didn’t mean to overstay into their supper hour. Gibbs was a hit; I don’t need to tell you that. Rob and Pat love pooches and he was no exception, being very similar to their past little love bug, SandyGirl.

Hadley was preoccupied
but a nice selfie, otherwise

Getting Gibbs in his backpack was funny

He looks like a caged dog, doesn't he?
Wait a minute! He is one!

We had a nice ride, a good test for
our pup
Our next one will be longer 😊

At home, we weren’t overly hungry but after I started my post, Bill made me a cup of tea to fill an empty niche in my tummy. We have some macaroni salad to nibble on if we so choose. This was a wonderful day; it couldn’t have been nicer. I hope you also had a good day, as a Dad, with your Dad, or thinking of the Dad’s you know. They could be friends; they could be sons or Grandsons. All important.

Great day for a ride

Bill wore his reflective helmet today

So, Happy Father’s Day to all you Dad’s out there and that includes mine. I’ve missed you now for 25 Father’s Days.

A nice afternoon but storms and rain are predicted
overnight
My plants will be happy!
good night!

Thank you for your visit to my blog today.
