We’ve Moved, Beautiful Day

On Wednesday, Oct. 18^th, we didn’t wait until after lunch to head to London as we originally thought we would. Those who know us well, knew we would pull out early. 😊 It was 9:15 by the time we were packed up, dumped and pulling through our gate.

It was cloudy this morning and 7C/45F but 30 minutes down the road, the clouds moved off and blue skies gave us sunshine. That didn’t last long but it was a pleasant dry day all the same. We made one stop west of Milverton for Gibbs to have a piddle, even if it is just a few droplets, it settles him down for the rest of the journey. That worked, he only whimpered when Daddy turned his blinker on.

from clouds to sun and back again.
It was dry and mild enough and that was the best part.

We arrived at CanAm, London just before noon hour, which was pretty good timing considering we were pulling near 19,000 lbs. behind us. Peggy had a spot right out along the building for us so Bill got set up. For some reason, I felt tired, so preferred not to go anywhere after we got set up. There was always tomorrow when we’ll need to be somewhere else. They will be working on the Suite inside.

We have a dozen eggs so Madame IP boiled them up perfectly for me and half became egg salad while the others are marked and returned to the fridge. Just in case they aren’t allowed to cross the border. The chickens or the eggs, wouldn’t much matter what went first, I don’t think. 😊

It was a pleasant drive

For supper, we agreed on sausage, fried potatoes and as much as Bill didn’t agree whole-heartedly, we had carrots. Again, not a passable food item. They come from our Canadian earth! It was a quiet day for us, inside, but Gibbs was busy keeping an eye on all the comings and goings. That means it wasn’t a quiet day for the staff inside either! Many rv’ers are dropping their rigs off for storage so it was a hubbub of activity until after 5.

I suggested we run to Costco tonight rather than wait until Saturday and so we did that. We were very quick, back home in an hour. It doesn’t take us long with a list and a budget. LOL Bill had set up the Starlink this afternoon so we can watch tv while we’re here. Tomorrow may be challenging, depending on how long things take but Al will be greasing the bearings and checking the brake pads on the Suite for sure.

FridayWe’re hoping she can be brought out for us to sleep in again BUT the frayed bedroom slide cable (which is on the list to repair) broke when we opened up. I don’t even want to think about that, they are the technicians and will handle it. 😊 I worked on my blog and Gibbs went upstairs with Bill. He’s into Christmas movies already and that just isn’t my cup of tea.

This was a great day. We moved safely and easily and are comfortable and cozy for the night. We reached a high of 15C/59F today and it will be only dropping to a low of 9C/48F overnight.

Early Rising, Taking Care of Business, Moving On, Walmart in Benson, Collage Happy Again

I know I was dreaming through the later early morning hours on Friday, Mar. 1^st and woke up with a clear memory of the silly ‘mind matter’ that was involved. It was only 6 am so I stayed where I was for another half hour thinking about it. It was about having a family gathering with Bill’s family so I had to relate it him when I got up. He was in bed last night at 9 with Clemson and asleep by 9:30 so it wasn’t surprising that he was up at 5.

He made our hot drinks when I came downstairs and we sat at our laptops. I’m behind on reading blogs but my first priority was to finish adding pictures to my Thursday post and get it off. Then I ran out of time. I made scrambled eggs for breakfast, fast and easy and then Bill drove into the CVS to get our monthly cash withdrawal now that our work pensions had been deposited. After he left, I hopped in the shower.

No movement from Clemson yet but he was breathing when I checked on the lump under the covers. We do that a lot now that he sleeps so much, our hearts pumping each time. I trimmed my toenails and removed the old polish before I gathered up the garbage and walked it over to the bins. What a gorgeous day! I was able to catch a beautiful sky to the east and northeast even though I didn’t have time for my walk.

The Allpoints cash machine was down 😖 so we’ll have to stop somewhere else when we need to. The boys settled up with the office and we closed everything up. Nice to be on the road exactly at 9.

It was 62F when we pulled out under sunny skies with a few wispy clouds. Easy going travel as we stopped at a Rest Area in the Dateland/Gila Bend area and then moved onto I-10E. With chatter on the cb from Sparky, (Rob to us)we searched the area for fuel stations. I knew there were a bunch coming up soon after changing interstates.

It was just before 12 noon when Rob and Pat found a PRIDE station offering diesel for $2.719/gal. All around us it was $3.259. While fueling up there was another Ontario couple doing the same, who were heading to Benson for a couple of weeks. Our destination is an overnight in Walmart while they are going into a park and then south to Brownsville, Texas. They will be in warm/hot weather for longer than us. We were all pleased that we were still getting diesel at a good price.

Pat mentioned getting a bite to eat before moving on so Bill and I bought a ½ sub at the Subway in the station. For $10 they were very good and filling. The next 80 minutes of travel went just as smooth with only the occasional slowdowns.

Just when we thought we were home free and 5 minutes to go, there was an accident at our exit. A 25 minute slow down but oh well, we are in no hurry. We took the next exit #304 and followed Bill’s gps to the Walmart on Prickly Pear Ave hoping to stop overnight.

Within seconds of seeing the lot, we knew we could stay as we saw other rv’s together in an obvious designated area. Rob also said they had called ahead just to save the headache if we couldn’t. Apparently, if the city comes around and asks us to move, we have to move because that would mean there is a city ordinance because of campgrounds in the Benson vicinity. We were parked by 2:45. And we were not alone.

We got in fairly easy and another motor home pulled in right behind Rob. Pat and I had both spotted a Thrift Store just around the corner, within walking distance so once we were set up inside (we don’t unhook the truck, just lower the jacks) she and I walked to it. The sign went up 'CLOSED' almost as we walked up. Darn it all! It looked like it would have been a fun one to poke around in. Oh well, their loss, we might have found the perfect thing!

We walked back and wandered into Walmart to pick up some groceries that they needed and I found a couple of things too for lunch on the road tomorrow. When I returned to the Suite, it was cooled down inside considerably after opening many of the windows. Bill was snoozing inside and since Clem had been fed on our arrival, he was content too. I caught up on my post and took Clemson for a walk around the parking lot. Oh, first a picture of our ‘site’ before I forget. Not to take away from the lovely 0C back home today, temperature reached 80F here in Benson.

When I returned, Rob and Pat were sitting out between the trailers and invited us over for a Happy Hour. Rather than get our lawn chairs out, it was easier to carry our dining chairs over. We sat for maybe an hour and all decided to walk over to Little Caesars for supper. It was not a dine in venue so we each ordered and carried our pizzas back to our homes. It was good and filling, they really piled the extras on.

We all walked over to Walmart just to browse and sure enough I found 3 little camisole tops, a style which I wear a lot, for $1.68 each. I couldn’t walk away, so I chose 2 new colours and a white one to replace mine that was looking worse for wear. While waiting for Rob and Pat to check out, a fellow from New Mexico offered us .50¢ to buy a soda. Did you get that? He wasn’t asking for the money, he was holding out his hand offering us his change from the machine. So, Bill said ‘Sure! Thank you very much!’ We chatted for a while and the 4 of us walked back to our trailers for the night.

This was a great driving day with fortunately no upsets. Even the delay couldn’t take away from it. We were sad in one way to leave Yuma but now that we’re on the road again, we are looking forward to a new adventure in a different state. We read our books inside while other rv’s pulled in all around us for the night. It is nice that we can stay here considering there is an rv park literally right across the street. We are grateful for the free stay.

Heading Further South, Goodbye to Friends, New Park

I woke up on Friday, Feb. 1^st around 5:20 and once more, Bill was up. Clemson jumped off the bed to have his morning piddle before coming back to sleep some more with Mom. I dozed but not deeply and got up around 6:30. I made my tea and joined Bill at our laptops. Shortly after 7 I headed out for my last walk around the area and got a couple of miles in. What a beautiful morning! The sky is clear and it was registering 50F already.

I chatted with a lady walking her 2 large dogs and she wanted to warn me, because she sees me alone each morning, of the ‘men’ on the grounds. I’ve never felt fear even in the early morning light but she pointed out a ‘pervert’s’ trailer in particular. I have walked past it many times and never seen anyone but heeding her advice (since I didn’t have a Glock like she does) I walked back the main road until I cleared his rv. I thanked her for the advice and left it at that.

Back home, Bill had showered and I began making bacon and eggs before getting cleaned up myself. As usual, we were all packed up early and Bill was hooking up around 9:30. Once everything was ready, I walked over to say goodbye to Tom and Deb when Suzie walked over. Woops! I forgot to help Bill with the rear lights so had to attend to that duty first. Sometimes it is a distraction when others are around but this was on me. I walked away too soon. 😊

We said goodbye to everyone individually, hugs all around, and made sure we had contact information for our new friends, Ken and Kim. You never know who we’ll run into and where but at least for these two, we’ve made tentative plans to meet up with them while in the Yuma area. Bittersweet for sure, but it is time and the four of us are ready to get into a full-service park for a while.

Some of our plans didn’t work out this year, at least not the way we’d first planned, but we’re sticking close to plan and making the best of it. We left our site before 10 and stopped to dump our tanks. That didn’t take long as there were only 3 in line ahead of us and they had blue boys only. Soon enough we were on I-95S and arrived without incident just a few minutes before noon at Sundance RV Park. It was a bit of a rigmarole upon checking in, they kept adding extra charges for this that and the other.

The sites are close together and it took some jig jagging but eventually we both got in, and we got set up. It took no time to find the satellite for this are and it just felt good knowing we didn’t care how much tv we watched. I had made lime Jell-O yesterday and blended the cream cheese and heavy cream but didn’t get them mixed together before leaving this morning. That was one of the first things I did when we were set up. Now there are more 'good for us' dessert treats in the fridge for evening enjoyment. I took 2 over for Rob and Pat to try, since I know they like this creamed Jell-O too.

I sat out with Clemson for a while and then at his supper time, came inside so he could eat. True to form, for me, I took my camera after cleaning the lenses and went for a walk around the park. I just wanted to poke into buildings before the office closed and see what I could find about the goings on. There is a 50’s/60’s dance tonight and it is $5 each. I’m not sure if we’ll feel up to it anyway, not likely tonight. We’ll probably be able to hear the music from our site.

I walked to the Bocce Ball court and back to the outdoor heated pool (yes!), the pool and table shuffleboard room, the exercise room, the quilt and craft room before returning to the Suite. Some clouds have moved in but the winds are still registering 0 mph and the temperature is 72F. Now that is really nice, let me tell you. I took my book outside and read in the shade for a while. Pat is suffering from a nasty earache today so we didn’t worry about Happy Hour today. I hope she feels better tomorrow.

For me, I just had a headache after we arrived. We had eaten a good breakfast but it was around 8:00 so I was probably just feeling hungry. Bill and I had a snack of cheddar cheese which is a good fat filler and I had cut a couple of pieces of my Christmas cake. That didn’t help with the headache but I put off taking an Advil thinking it would go away on its own. I went out with my book and sat in the sun at the back of the Suite beside Black Beauty. It was nice until about 5 when the cooler air moved in.

Bill came out and put his wind vane up on the roof and then his flag pole up. Tomorrow he’ll get our solar lights out. He picked up a cold somewhere and is sniffling and talking in a lower sexier voice than normal. Luckily, we have some DayQuil in the cupboard so that gives him some relief for a few hours at a time. I hope no one else got it from him and he’ll try to keep from passing it along to Rob and Pat. How the devil do you pick up a cold in the desert?

At 5, I made myself a cup of tea and updated our grocery list. It is getting longer and longer. Tomorrow morning, we need to get to Fry’s. As Rob says, “Old Mother Hubbard’s cupboards are pretty bare”. That is in both of our units. I started some battered fish in the convection oven and some shoestring fries in the air fryer. They should have both taken about the same amount of time, 20 minutes. When the fries were done, the fish appeared to be ready. It could have used another few minutes but it wasn’t too bad and we ate it anyway.

Fish should have been cooked a bit more but the fries were great!

Dishes were done by 6:45 and we sat in front of the tv. Well, first I worked on my post for today. This was a typical moving day. It went well and we managed to get things set up easily enough. For dessert, we had some lime Jell-o and a cup of strawberry/raspberry tea from Old Albuquerque.

We had a good day and found a warmer location than it was in Quartzsite. It is at least 5 perhaps 7 degrees warmer here in Yuma, Az. I hope your day was a good one too.
