A Lazy Windy Day, New Craft

On Thursday, Mar. 6th it was 7 o'clock when Gibbs and I got up and made the bed. I decided to change it up today and skip the floor blocking. I stretched in bed and then hopped in the shower. Bill followed with his shower while I came down for cereal and tea. There would be no flying today and not even worth visiting the field. Every pilot would be of the same mind. it was windy right off the get-go.

Gibbs was keen to walk this morning.

I had no commitments either so we did the family thing, here at home. Bill was on his laptop across the table from me and I did a bit of paper quilling. At 10:30, I went to the clubhouse to work on the puzzle. It was a quicker finish than I thought it would be and was out of there an hour later. 😀 I loved this puzzle and will be taking it home with me. I forgot to mention that our neighbour, Walter, returned yesterday from another one of his adventures. Goodbye sunrises. I won't complain, he is a really nice man.

I took Gibbs out for his walk and felt pretty good. He didn't go the whole way but it was good enough and he walked really well. Maybe the winds were pushing us! For lunch, I heated up some pizza and Bill had a sandwich. The afternoon just got windier and windier, windy enough to pop the top of the gazebo down! Checking our anemometer it said it was a 28 mph gust. We left it down and carried on with our day.

Until I get some backing paper for some of my paper quilling projects, I decided to do some cross-stitching for a while. It's nice to be able to move from one craft to another but when my butt got tired of sitting, I moved to my recliner with my book. 😊📖

times. We're thankful to be where we are.

For supper, we'd decided on 3-egg omelets. They were loaded and they were very good. Bill had his in a toasted sandwich. We cleaned up the strawberries for dessert.

The winds are dying down to between 12-16 mph overnight with possibly a bit of rain here and there. We'll see. Weather here does the same dance as it does everywhere else. Who said change is good? We reached 69F/20C today. This has been a pretty quiet day and we've enjoyed it.

Clouds Roll In, Super Bowl Sunday, Crafting with my Sweetie

On Sunday, Feb. 9^th I was in no way excited about football when I woke up, however, some people are and in honour of the game, Sue and Fred have planned a ‘Super Bowl Party’ in the clubhouse. All that means to me is that I will be sure to be out of the room when it starts. 😊

Laundry day!

Today is laundry day, where did the week go? We could tell by the contents of the bag of dirty clothes that it was a hot week. I had a couple pair of shorts and a few sleeveless tops and Bill had only one pair of long pants. I seldom wear socks except on my morning walks so there was no fear of the dryer making a meal out of them. We walked over at 7:05 and loaded the 2 machines, but they were smaller loads indeed.

When I walked back at 7:30, the sky was gorgeous!

I skipped my walk again, old news now, but after Bill left for the field under cloudy skies, I had my cereal and tea. The clothes were clean and folded by 8:30 and it was after they were put away that I took Gibbs for his walk. I wasn’t feeling very bouncy, even after my stretches etc., this morning so I was happy when he brought me back home.

I played my games earlier and so took my book up to the bedroom with Gibbs and we relaxed where I was comfortable. Eventually, I was feeling my old self again so at 10:45 made my bp coffee and walked over to start a puzzle. Okay, this one could be challenging but it the last one of 3 of my own. I brought this one from home, have one from our friend, Patti, to do and one that is a Christmas gift from Bill. 😊

I think there could be some frustrating
moments during this process.

It took much of the hour before noon to get the pieces out, flipped over and separated so I didn’t get much done. For lunch, Bill had his sandwich and I reheated my onion rings & fish (leftovers from the Yacht Club) in the air fryer. Not as good as the first day but it was still tasty. Bill dozed, as did Gibbs, but it wasn’t warm enough to sit outside in my shorts and tank top under those clouds so I went back to the puzzle for a bit.

We needed to get our 2 5-gallon water bottles filled so Bill went after he got up to do that and give Black Beauty a drink. We have noticed a decline in our propane usage this past week, thank goodness! We were going through it pretty quickly through the cool month of January. We’re happy for the change! We are still saving on diesel though, not driving too far at all while here in Quartzsite. 😊

Our Canadian dollar has been nasty since we got down here, well since the new year, which means pinching pennies a bit more than usual. Where, a week ago, Bill noticed that an American $ cost us $1.50 Cdn, today, it is at a better (not by a lot) $1.46.01 so we moved a bit more cash over to our account down here. It would be great it would improve but we won’t hold our breath.    

My lunch was more like a supper
but it had to be eaten. Yum!

I went back to the puzzle and although I still couldn’t finish the border, I came closer and began working on the animals. LOL, not going to be an easy one. I need Nancy back! I don’t know what time I returned to the Suite but I had in mind to work on some paper quilling. I sat on one side of the table and Bill sat on the other and we worked on our crafts. 😊 He still has that small model Spitfire to finish.

with him.

I made another small animal from my kit and they are such fun to do. I didn’t know what to do with Mr. Fox and Mr. Bear but I found a good home for them. For supper, Bill grilled some marinaded Tri-Tip along with potatoes. We’ve never bought or had this meat before so it was a learning experience. We both enjoyed it with a spiced, olive oil, maple syrup marinade but next time, less cooking. ♥ It was a good meal!

Everything was very good and we have
more Tri-Tip in the freezer to improve where necessary.

We had a great day and it will be a relaxing evening, either in front of the tv or reading my book – or a bit of both. On our afternoon walk, Gibbs didn’t take me too far but it was still better than sitting home on my butt.

Today was much different than yesterday, as far as weather. Cloudy with a bit of a cool breeze for most of the day. We still reached a pleasant 69F/20C with a low expected of 47F/8C overnight. Still decent for sleeping but maybe no windows open tonight. 😊

Snowy Monday to Start

It was clear outside when Bill got up and left for work on Monday, Dec. 14^th. The weather station was indicating a snowy day, starting around 7 am and light flurries all day. With that knowledge, I was up before 7, had my tea and was downstairs heading out for Durham a few minutes before 8.

There was no additional snow on Ptooties from yesterday when I cleared her off but there was a bit of frost residue which didn’t take long to scrape. It was a chilly 0C/32F and the wind made it feel cooler than that. I always prepare somewhat for the drive, in case I get stuck/stranded somewhere for any reason, by having my short boots (when I can wear runners), a scarf, a hat and extra gloves in the car. I carry water in my thermos plus when I’m working, nibblers and a hot drink.

Today, I didn’t need any of those things, it was a clear drive all the way to the Mat. Going the back roads, I made great time and arrived within 40 minutes of leaving Paisley. Only one customer with a dryer in use, a familiar fellow but he wasn’t there until his load was done so we didn’t even chat other than ‘how are you today?’ I only had to run one washer as it was a bit of a mess. Farmer mess, heh heh, straw it looked like. LOL

With the laundromat in good condition, I left and almost got out of town before noticing that I was below half a tank of fuel. I veered back to the Pioneer to fill up and got to use my new Journie card. Bill has one and, on the weekend, we got mine. I am topping up the SUV every week so may as well get the fuel point building up. Then I headed out of town again. There was quite a mini blizzard blowing from the north directly at me making things look pretty white ahead.

Perhaps this wasn't the wisest choice but I turned onto Mulock Rd
to head north

I debated staying on the main highway going home but going through Hanover and Walkerton really slows me down. Plus, the highway was a bit greasy and sometimes other traffic is more of a menace than anything. So, I took the turn off onto Mulock Road and stayed on it until I reached Concession 8. Woops! That was a mistake. Not because of the snow-covered roads, they weren’t bad to drive on, but because Conc.8 from that far over was a haven of potholes. LOL

Once I crossed Grey County Rd. 3, it was fine and what I was familiar with. Bill usually turns onto Conc. 4, I think, up 3 and then 8. I was home again in good time, 40 minutes being better than 50 anytime! I know it is short-lived and I’ll be happy to stay on the main highway. I didn’t need to stop anywhere today. Once home, I had my cheese and pepperoni while finishing my thermos of coffee. Then I hopped in the shower.

Not cocky just careful and confident

I needed to get out to the bank, across the road, but now had to wait until my hair was dry. I started my blog and then sat and read my book for an hour. I felt chilled so curled up on the bed and dozed for a few minutes. I only got a chapter read! Around 3, I bundled up against the outside temperatures and walked over to the bank. That wind was indeed cold, making the -3C/28F feel much colder.

On the way back to the house I thought it was kind of silly to bundle up so much to go out for 5 minutes so walked down the main street to the south, crossed over, walked the block and came back up Water Street, the one behind our residence. I knew when I got in the house, I would certainly be warmed up! It was 3:30 so I made myself a cup of tea and cut myself a piece of my homemade Christmas cake. I’d taken it out of the freezer on Saturday.

I almost missed this plaque!

I make a batch of 2 every other winter and freeze one. Bill really likes them and so do I! Realizing how fast Christmas was sneaking up on us, what better time to move into the garage and finish my glass tree ornaments? I would make do with the letters I had and not worry about how well they matched. Homemade by Patsy does not mean perfect, no matter what it is. 😊

Can you say pretty? Now can you say c-c-c-cold?

There is no overhead light that shines down on the table and for a while I was fine with the window light but it soon got difficult to see properly. I don’t need to be straining these old eyes. It was nice and warm in there as Wes had the wood stove on and kept it well-stocked. Finally, when I needed to check birth years of the grands and get into some light, I moved upstairs. First, I unlocked the garage door as it was 4:30 and Bill would be texting soon.

I was upstairs and just finishing applying the numbers when he texted that he was 15 minutes away. I’m glad they’re working inside a house right now, it would be a nasty day working outside. When he came upstairs, I was just finishing hanging the new decorations. I’m quite proud of them and when we forget how old the kids are, we’ll have a reference! Ha ha. Maybe I need to hang them all year. Hmmm, that’s not a bad idea.

Bill curled up on the bed for his short nap and at 6 I went down to start getting things ready for supper. We’d bought a beef tenderloin at Costco and Bill cut it up into roasts and steaks so we are having a steak dinner tonight with the last of the mashed potatoes. It didn’t take long to sauté, then cook the steak. 2 minutes and then 5 minutes for medium. The potatoes and gravy were warmed up in the microwave or on the stove.

Everything turned out well and we were eating by 6:30 or so. We had Caesar salad to clean up and mushroom gravy in the fridge so it was a filling meal. Oh, to top it off we split the large piece of Cherry Cheesecake that Wendy from CanAm gave us. Thank you so much, Wendy for sharing! After dishes, Bill made his lunch and we came upstairs. I downloaded pictures and then worked on finishing this post. On time. 😊

This was a good day. My AccuWeather on my phone had a weather advisory out for an afternoon and evening of snowfall but by 7:00, it had changed. That was good to see, since we didn't get much at all today. I hope it doesn't appear overnight making the drive nasty for Bill in the morning.
