A Bit of Home-Work, Family Visiting, Can U Say ‘Gorgeous!’?

The Ridge

On Monday, June 24^th it was 7:30 when we were all up for the day. The clouds from Bill and Gibbs’ first outing at 6:30 were gone and the sky was a lovely clear blue. We didn’t have to go anywhere today so it was a blessing that the weather Gods were smiling down upon us. Bill wanted to get some grass cut today and the weed trimming done at the front of the property. My plan was to dust and vacuum the Suite – for starters.

We both had success and the front field and surrounding area at the road looks awesome. The Suite, inside, also looks awesome. I don’t dust often but when I do, it improves our home 100%. 😊 I also took extra time cleaning the toilet. How do they get so stained? Every day use with regular cleaning just doesn’t cut it but now, it sparkles and is white again! Good old elbow grease.

Gibbs and I went out and fed the birds while Bill was doing his chore. It is such a gorgeous day that we just want to be out-of-doors. When he finished at the front, we had lunch together and he took our second 40-lb propane tank to Flesherton, a town about 20 minutes away, to get it re-certified at Sparling’s Propane. They will both be done and good for another 10 years, rather than buying new. We are happy with the service and the price.

He dropped the tank and I worked on the puzzle. It is indeed a ……wait for it……….puzzler!! Holy cow, it is stumping me! I did manage a few important pieces so I could situate one of the trucks at least. 😊

Donna and Gerry went to the Acreage for the day so after they finished cutting grass over there, Gibbs and I went over for a visit. When Bill returned from picking the tank up, he drove BB over too.

We helped them put the 20’ cover on their shelter; it does take 8 hands to get it done. Bill gets up on the ladder and the 3 of us pull it along from the ground. I should have taken a picture. Then we just relaxed together until almost 5 when it was time to come home. It was nice to visit with Donna for a while, just the two of us, and yet also nice to visit altogether. ♥ For supper, Bill bbq’d sausages and I made a garden salad for on the side.

After cleanup, he went to the Hangar and I watched some tv up here. It has been a wonderful day. Gibbs enjoys both properties but still gets anxious whenever we hop in the vehicle to go anywhere.

Today, in the mail, we received our invitation to Bridgette and Chris’ wedding so I filled it out and got it ready to be returned. It is a unique and suitable invitation, of course. 😊 I hope you’ve had a nice day, as well. A full day of sun, what a concept! We reached a lovely 25C/77F, a downright perfect day.

A Run-Around-Day, Family Visit

The Ridge

On Thursday, Apr. 18^th, it was our day to take care of the most important errands. I was up by 7:30 and we had our tea and breakfast together. There is one thing (of many) that we are relishing in here at home in relation to Gibbs. Yesterday, he cracked us up with his Ridge zoomies and it was then that we realized how wonderful it is to just open the door and let him out to do his business. 😊

We both bundled against the 6C/44F and wanted to believe that the rain would hold off until midnight. That didn’t become reality and as I walked around, Gibbs ran around and Bill puttered around, we were getting wet. We didn’t have the strong winds today which helped in a big way. Bill opened the sheds and outhouse yesterday so today he opened his cargo trailer and the Hangar. Until the weather cooperates, we won’t be moving too much out.

Before 9, Bill had taken the mail box down to the road and then we drove to our regular mechanic to book Black Beauty in for an oil change. That was our first roadblock. Grey Bruce Fleet no longer does them, their business being mostly on big diesel trucks. ☹ They recommended a couple of places in the area to check out. From there, we drove to Murray’s to pick up Ptooties. ♥

My little Rav 4 waited all winter for me in his barn. We’ll get Jazz, our Yamaha, on the first suitable day to bring her home. On the way, we stopped at one of the shops about the oil change but they didn’t deal with trucks as big as BB, so it was down to one more place to try. On the way back, I took Ptooties to fill our two 5-gallon water bottles. A little chit chat with Mark, and then I stopped at Bath & Biscuit to make an appointment for Gibbs to get groomed in May.

Bill went to the hardware store in town, to fill our water bladder and then to check out A & E Automotive on the way home. He, thankfully, was able to make an appointment for the oil change before he returned home. We had some lunch while the water was being transferred and then we carried on with the errands. We drove to Priceville, to the post office, to cancel the “HOLD” on our mail but this was our second stumble. They were closed for another half hour.

Okay, we’ll go to Hanover first to Donna and Gerry’s and pick up our mail. It was a fair bit of back and forth, at a time where gas is an absolutely ridiculous price, (it jumped 14¢ overnight), but fortunately we’d left Ptooties with a full tank. It was nice to see family again and have a great visit catching up. We left around 3 and went back to the post office to take care of business there. That was it for the running around. Inside, we relaxed until supper time.

The boys dozed and I read my book. It’s coming to its end and I’ll have to move on to a different author. ☹ I’m having so much fun with these stories. Supper was restaurant fare. I had liver and onions with pepper squash and Bill had fish and corn. There wasn’t enough fish for both of us and he doesn’t like liver – at all. We cleaned up, loaded and ran the dishwasher and watched The Voice together while I worked on my blog.

This was a good day and we got a lot taken care of. Hopefully, the rain holds off tomorrow so I can get out to do some raking in the gardens and the laneway. Bill is overjoyed to hear that our chorus frogs are back and in terrific harmony! (sarcasm at its best!) They are so loud! 💗 On another note, today we wish our grandson, Connor, a very happy 19th birthday!

Good Times, Au Revoir and Hello!

The Ridge

Saturday, Aug. 5^th for me was a busy enough day with not too much to show for it other than laundry done. I was up by 7 and into the Mat for cleaning and to do our wash for 7:30. The place was exactly as I prefer, no customers for the whole hour and a half. 😊 I’m not anti-social at all but my time and job goes a lot smoother and quicker when I’m on my own.

While at the Mat, I heard the clop-clopping
of hooves. 

Stopped for water

I was home before 9, after filling a 5-gallon water jug, and hung our clothes on the line. They would dry fairly fast, I was sure. Our guests were leaving this morning, which was a bit of a surprise since yesterday they thought Sunday. It is always bittersweet. We love when they take time for their own schedules at home to come and visit. We spend a fair bit of time together yet not an overload. It’s quite nice.

I remained inside with Gibbs and I got our floors dust mopped (again). Gibbs and I trotted down the lane to the corner (he trotted, I walked) and when it was time for my coffee around 10:30, we sat together on the ‘patio’. It was about 12:15 when the Wilsons had tanks dumped and were pulling out. For a while it’s going to be special when the big rigs, including ours, pull in and out of our new entrance. Still a few finishing touches but we love it!

A perfect exit

Bill had left around 8 to go to the flying field with his cargo trailer. Maybe some flying, visiting with the guys while the corn field dried a bit, but mostly to search for the Piper Cub. ☹ I did a lot of praying for some success but when he called to tell me that he was on his way home, they’d had no luck. My hubby doesn’t give up so he’ll be back tomorrow.

We packed up a couple of coolers, some warm clothes and drove over to the Acreage around 3:30 ish. Donna and Gerry’s Acreage long weekend campout has dwindled down to almost nothing over the 20 years they’ve held it, however, I knew my son, daughter and her spouse were going to be there today so we weren’t going to miss attending for the rest of the day. Bridgette and Chris were already there when the 3 of us arrived and it is always wonderful to see them. ♥

What a beauty of a day!

Happy hour ensued and by 4:30 Patrick had also arrived. My 'Momma' heart is now full. We all planned a communal barbecue together but each of us taking our own burgers. Bridgette offered devilled eggs, bbq’d potatoes and salad, Donna had potato salad and corn and Patrick brought some cookies for dessert. I dropped the ball on that one, just took our own fare – woops!

It was a fun afternoon that stretched into an evening fire. It was even nicer that my little sister and niece, Wendy and Morgan, joined us.

Gibbs was very good, staying close but keeping an eye on everyone who got up to move. He was our protector and was happiest when we all stayed in our chairs. 😊 It was 10:30 when we packed up our chairs and came home to bed. What a nice day!

The Weekend Ends on a High Note

The Ridge

On Sunday, July 9^th Bill was up first. Gibbs slept in until 6:35 which was nice. Bill stayed up and Gibbs and I slept for another half hour. I felt like having a bowl of Life cereal this morning, so that’s what I did, while Bill had his. He was all ready to go before 8 as Black Beauty was still hooked up to the cargo trailer.

A morning walk for a change

Gibbs and I sat while I finished my tea and then I slipped on a light jacket and we went for our morning walk. I haven’t made too much of a commitment for walks lately and I’m sure Gibbs is fully aware of my absence of energy. 😊 We walked to the corner before we turned around for home. I let him off the leash to come up the lane and he walked slowly within 2 feet of me.

and reassemble a dv player now. LOL

We have a new collar for Gibbs, one that only makes a sound and vibrates and only when we use the remote to do so. It isn’t a bark collar, it is a correction collar for when he strays to the far field, over the fence or wherever he is out of sight and does not respond to our call. It arrived Friday and he is the best little guy since we started using it. We only put it on him occasionally but are very impressed. He does not get a shock or a static buzz.

So, today, one of my goals was to tidy the Bunky and I did that for about an hour. I wanted to test the old dvd player out there and when the tray wouldn’t open, I took it apart to see what the problem was. Then, 8 tiny screws later, out and then in, I was no better off. The player is toast but at least now I know. No point in it taking up space.

It looked like it might rain but by the time Bill returned from flying, we had nothing. It was a mild enough day but not a lot of sun today at all. Bill and Gibbs dozed upstairs while I made rice pudding for supper. We were invited, along with my 2 other sisters and hubbies, to Gayle and John’s so Donna and I contributed with the dessert portion. 😊

It was a wonderful meal.

Gibbs was invited and with his collar on him, he behaved so good. We had a lovely visit and a delicious meal of roast, potatoes, turnip, carrots and corn. Yum! A true Sunday night meal. ♥ It was mainly a get together but they also wanted to share the information that they’d sold their house. Well, we all knew (sort of) but now seeing the sign, it was official. Congratulations!
