Heat and Humidity, New Arrivals and Gibbs and Giji

The Ridge

On Sunday, Aug. 7th it was nice to remain in bed without thinking of the time. Bill was up, getting ready to go flying. Gibbs and I got up around 7 and went for a short walk. Before we even got to the corner, he turned around for home. Okay by me! It was gearing up for another hot, humid day but with rain expected later. Bill was at the Hangar when we returned so we said goodbye and he and Ken headed out around 7:30.

It didn't feel too hot for walking this morning
but maybe that is why Gibbs turned back

Before I made my tea, I had a brief feeling of light-headedness so just sat with Gibbs in my chair and put my head back. Later, Bill suggested that it was probably the heat and walking as soon as I got up. Oh well, within 10 minutes, I was fine and had my tea beside me while ‘we’ worked on Wordle etc. 😊 I had a blog to finish from yesterday so worked on that and got it posted.

Adorable little pecks and sniffs

A little bit of tag

Unfortunately, a few minutes later, all of my writing and pictures had disappeared. ?? That was weird. Kim had read it, along with my cousin up north, so I knew it had originally worked but now it was 98% gone. I left it alone for now and perused some pages of a new online auction at 6 on 6. I was actually just avoiding going out in the heat and I knew Kim wasn’t out anyway. We both had our a/c running.

Giji is so patient because she also wanted
to play

The sky did this all around us this afternoon

Bill and Ken returned around 11 and Bill came in and snoozed with Gibbs while I finished. As I was online, Rose messaged that they were on their way, 10 minutes out. Yay! A third visiting rv. I’d begun to get things out of the fridge for lunch but went out with the rest to greet our guests. Wow, that motor home is sure big! You don’t realize it until you are up on a small space, instead of out in the open desert. George got backed in behind the Wilson’s Journey like a pro and we came in to eat.

Rose watching Gibbs cozying up
I didn't know he could dance so well!

Giji is their ‘new’ shepherd and she is bigger but just as friendly as I remembered from last winter. I let Gibbs out and you couldn’t ask for a better reunion. It is always cute watching two compatible pooches playing together so well. The rest of the day was spent sitting outside catching up and more stories were told all around. At 6, we went our separate ways for supper and just in time because the black clouds finally produced rain.

Kim! Come in out of the rain!
I reminded her that she has a metal cup in her hand. 😁

It felt good as we meandered back to our rv’s but I had to snap a picture of Kim who didn’t want to come in out of the rain. It was that hot today. As the rain got harder, she made her way inside their home. 😊 We had some thunder, lightning and gusty winds for a short but productive period of time. Plants should be happy now, again.

we got a lot of rain in a short period of time

We had leftover meatloaf, corn on the cob and cherry pie for supper and remained indoors for the rest of the night. The heat seemingly takes a toll on me and I felt exhausted from doing NOTHING!

Supper was filling even though it doesn't look like much

Another wonderful day and we’re glad Rose, George and Giji were able to join us. Oh! It was also nice to chat with Loree today and we wish her well on the 11th.

The rain was off and on with ever-changing skies
Good night!

Thank you for your visit! (I hope this one posts properly)

Hot and Humid

The Ridge

It was very late, almost early morning when Bill and I got to bed last night. That is important to know as it explains why we slept in until 8 this morning, Sunday, July 5th. Blows my mind that I need and usually get 8 hours of sleep each night, regardless of my bedtime. I’m grateful that sleep has never been a problem for me to date. Bill had a shower, he hates the scent of OFF and having it on his body so was anxious to wash it off this morning. The skitters weren’t terrible last night but they were around hoping to feast.

Good morning pond picture
I went for a walk after I got up and it was warmer than if I’d gone at 7 but that’s a moot point. I enjoyed the trek down B.C.Rd. and back with a couple of shout outs from Mitch and from the neighbor at the corner. We chatted about his large barking dogs. I am happier now to know that IF (big if) they were to be out, they were friendly although they would still run towards me barking. I still hope not to have that take place as it would be quite intimidating.

At least most of my walk was in the shade
Looking south to the highway
Back home, Bill was already down in the Hangar when I settled inside with my tea. If I didn’t have a blog to publish, I would have sat outside but was too lazy to cart my laptop and tea out there. When I finished that, I read other blogger’s posts and then wandered down to see Bill around 11. We’d talked about going for a drive so Bill had a yogourt and I had some cottage cheese before we headed out.

Looking back towards where I came from, the north
The drive took us through Neudstadt, Carlsruhe and into Hanover where we stopped at Canadian Tire for a few things Bill needed for the cargo trailer. They had some big bags of bird seed on sale so we got one of those too. On the way back through Durham, we stopped at the Beer Store to deposit my roadside finds and walked out with $6. That’s pretty good! Before driving home, we stopped in to visit Rob and Pat briefly. Always nice to catch up with our buddies. 😊

Back home, we were both hungry as breakfast was a no-show this morning. Falling off the keto wagon (was I pushed? No) Bill had toast and I made a leaf lettuce, tuna and mayo sandwich. Unfortunately, I really enjoyed the bread’s freshness and the fresh lettuce too. Oh well, what’s done is done. I’ve started keeping a note for myself on the Nutritional Facts of the foods I consume in a day. I’m curious how I can help myself. This was a big no-no but on paper it is an 'in my face' reminder.

The yard sale book I picked up
Never heard of the author but it sounded interesting
As I was finishing my guilty pleasure and coffee, Jamie dropped in to pay me for the past 2 weeks’ work. It was nice to chit chat a bit and catch up on what he’s got going on. He’s a busy guy, hard to slow him down with his new ventures. Bill went down to the Hangar to put up hooks for in the trailer and I basically did a big fat ‘nothing’. I took my book out to the shade and just relaxed for the afternoon. I’ll be working in the morning so have no guilt about that!

The movie also sounded interesting
We like Nicholas Cage so hope it is a good one
Today was the hottest I have felt it. Or, at least the most bothered I was by it. Having no breeze didn’t help since we don’t have the a/c but I made it through. I tried a snooze up in the bedroom but that didn’t work so instead, I called Patrick and had a nice conversation with my #1 son. 😊 He had just gotten out of their pool so it was a tease that he was cooled off when I was so hot. He told me their pool temp was 32C/88F. But at least it was wet and still refreshing. It would have worked for me!

The chair cushions I picked up at the sale
I tried calling Bridgette but there was no answer so will try again another night. At 5, I moved inside once more trying to find relief and the Suite was hot but cooler than outside by this point. I actually dropped off to sleep for a few minutes in my recliner in between reading and began feeling more comfortable. We’d eaten around 2 so weren’t too hungry but we still needed to eat something.

Two 500-pc puzzles to keep me busy when I need an indoor project
Bill earlier suggested bacon and eggs so around 6, I fried some cut up bacon, onions, mushrooms and radishes. Then in a bigger non-stick pan I made what I call my ‘Akumal’ omelette. At the resort, I watched how she made my omelettes each morning and learned. 👏 It is more like a crepe since my omelettes are just a jumbled mess of egg and everything else. This was a flat version with the fried ingredients in one half and the egg mixture with shredded cheese folded over top. Hey! That turned out pretty good!

We agreed that it was enough and I’d added cucumber slices and olives on the side. After dishes, Bill went back down to the Hangar and his trailer. I puttered away on my blog and watched some interesting shows on Animal Planet. There are so many interesting critters all over the world. With the news that Bill doesn’t have to work tomorrow and I do, I texted Pat to inform Rob that he and Bill can get together if they want. They want to test the alignment on the Suite.

I will definitely make this again

This was a different day; the morning was really nice but the afternoon a bit too uncomfortable for me. Oh well, not to complain, it is summer.

Thank you for stopping around. Your comments are always read and appreciated.

Good Rains Overnight, LadyFest Begins! Humidity Lingers

The Ridge - Priceville and Cedar Haven - Chatsworth

I think it might have been excitement for the week with my sisters that had me awake at 4:30, then 5:30 and finally at 6 on Tuesday, July 30th. It is crazy to think that it is here already, meaning the end of the month too. I’ve been looking forward to this time as we have a lot of laughs but when I finish putting everything together to take, it looks like I’m going for a month!

A nice little walk this morning
When you consider the outfits for 3 days and evenings out for dinner, that is one thing. Then, when you consider a cooler with my drinks, my camera bag and tripod to get a group picture and I’m also taking my Bullet and laptop. Oh, plus, I’m taking the bag of clothes that I’ve already started for the fall exchange. I may as well let my sisters have a poke through while they are together. Probably nothing there they’ll want but you never know.

The tracks through the wheat field
I got out for my walk this morning, under a cloud-filled sky. The temperature was 67F/20C so very nice. We had our morning brew together and read a few blogs. Bill went to the Hangar to tidy up a few things and when he came back up, he brought Ptooties over to the patio. He is such a sweetheart. Little things mean a lot to us, don’t they? I finished my tea and then hopped in the shower. Donna texted me that she would be leaving her place at 9 so I put the push on.

It was a bit misty out there
That was the time we’d planned on but all of a sudden it felt like I had a lot to do to get ready. I made Bill bacon and eggs because I doubt he’ll do that when I’m gone, and finished packing up. Gerry drove up and Donna loaded her bags into the bag of the SUV and we were off. I took the back route to catch Hwy #6 and we were the first to arrive. We knew where we were sleeping so carried out ‘stuff’ into the downstairs bedroom through the back patio door.

And a visiting family crossed our laneway on my return
And a couple of downy woodpeckers prefer the tree
rather than the suet
I was indoors with just my phone camera so not as nice
a capture as I wanted on short notice
Donna and I encountered a downed tree on our way
Good thing we could get by or we'd be out playing lumberjack
Doesn't Ptooties look happy under the gazebo?
Cathy and Audrey arrived next and the hugging began. This is something we all so look forward to. Gayle, being the host, we agreed a few years ago that she purchase the breakfast/lunch food and at the end of our time together, we will all pitch in towards the cost.

Our spread and our hostess in the background
giving us the rules of the house (haha)
The recycle is here, the compost is here etc.

My plate
This works well and she is very good at entertaining and knows what we all like. I would be terrible at this part! We had quite a spread of food, unusual things and low carb, keto, high fat keto things.

We ate, we chatted, we laughed, we ate, we drank and then after dishes we got cleaned up and hopped into Cathy’s GMC SUV. For 5 of us, it was the most comfortable ride. She drove us first to Value Village in Owen Sound where we spread out and easily killed a couple of hours. I did really well and was very particular with what I purchased.

This is the challenging puzzle
Next was just down the street and across the street to the Mission Store where prices are crazy cheap. I did well there too with only a 3-item purchase. Cathy isn’t keen on driving downtown Owen Sound so Gayle took over and weaved her way to the new Salvation Army location on the west side.

Our 3 vehicles, Cathy is the red one
This store wasn’t as appealing to me but I did find a very comfortable pair of leather loafers and some paints for my rock painting. A lot of mine are drying up so I can replace them. We contacted our youngest sister, Wendy, who had to work today, as it was 5 o’clock and we were getting ready for supper. A few ideas were tossed around and we settled on a homey restaurant where we’ve eaten a couple of years ago. We drove to Rockford and couldn’t have made a better choice.

I had a lovely Raspberry Ice

Yummy!

Lisa was our waitress and had us seated and laughing within minutes of our arrival. She was wonderful. We ordered drinks and then meals. Most of the group ordered liver and I debated but ended up going a different route and had the chicken quesadilla with sweet potato fries. Oh my, great choice! The liver looked good too but I was quite pleased with my meal and even brought some home for tomorrow.

And we enjoyed our first meal together
Back home, we did our usual ‘modelling of our purchases’, taking turns with a little flair. They went through the exchange clothes and I was happy that a few things were claimed. Yay! We had an on-going game of Scrabble and Audrey brought a challenging puzzle for us to try. The rest of the evening was relaxing and chatting and around 9:30 I touched base with Bill to say goodnight. We finished the game and the puzzle before calling it a night. It was 11:20!!

A wonderful day! Thank you for popping in. Stay tuned to see what tomorrow brings.

Ontario Humidity, Shed Work Continues, Recipes, Reading in the Rain, Winter Planning

This time, I was the one who had a more restless night’s sleep. I think I dropped off rather quickly but woke up at 2:30 with the need to use the facilities. Odd for me, but then I remembered that I hadn’t done so at 10 when I went to bed. My own worst enemy sometimes. Anyway, it was quite warm in the bedroom so I opened the window by my head and a lovely breeze refreshed us both.

The overnight rain weighed heavy on this
purple grass
I woke up at 6 on Friday, Aug. 17th and knew I was up for the count. The water was dripping off the roof into our rain pails so I listened to that for a while. Sure enough, at 6:45 when I thought I’d get up and go for a walk, an overhead cloud decided to rain on my parade. Oh well, I got up anyway and Bill followed soon after. We sat with our first morning brew and read some blog posts and eventually, the rain stopped. Bill went out to work on the shed and I headed out for my walk.
The work is going on down the road from us

There is an orange working zone sign at the front of the property and to the east of us, on North Line, the county is trimming trees. These machines make a real mess but the concept behind it is a necessary one. We’d complain if the trees hung over the roads now, wouldn’t we? I snapped a picture from a distance and then went the other way for my morning walk. The breeze in my face going west and south was quite nice but when I turned to return home, the humidity had closed in.

and my little Monarch companion was back again when I walked
This summer has been the worst I’ve felt with the humidity. Usually, it doesn’t get to me but this year has been horrible. I’m just not able to get moving out-of-doors as much as I’d like. Getting old, I guess, and I will not say that I enjoy the humid Ontario days. I’m looking forward to the hot days of the south and southwest without the annoying bugs and the unbearable humidity. When I returned, I stopped to see Bill’s progress and told him that I would holler when breakfast was ready.

And the oriole was also back

My sister, Aj, was right

Without the little plastic yellow flowers, an oriole will drink
from a hummingbird feeder
I came inside and with windows open, the breeze seemed to be coming in the Suite nicely. It was 73F outside but rising rapidly to 78F indoors. I made us each a toasted western, Bill’s on whole wheat and mine on rye bread. Yum, it was good. We cleaned up dishes and we turned the fans on to see if we’d need the a/c or not. The humidex is 90% so the chances are high that we’ll be turning it on soon.

this is the fat rugged organizer I've been stuffing recipes in

Since 1997 when it was given to me from a school secretary

this is the new $4 replacement
We gave Clemson another dose of his liquid medicine and are getting much better at it. I hold his head and Bill squirts it in. Clemson does the face screwed up ‘head shake’ and I offer him a treat. Maybe tomorrow will be the last day for it, we’ll see. There is no issue now going down the outside steps or jumping on or off the furniture with the exception of our bed. He can jump down but not up….yet. There is still a slight falter in his hind right side but he’s about 90% cured. Thank you all for you past wishes for his recovery.

Mom, you made a mess!

Everything in piles so I can make the appropriate tabs
Bill went back out to work and I brushed my teeth and set about the project that I touched on yesterday. I have a very messy Recipe Organizer and it is the only thing that I grumble about getting out. I have some special recipes that I’ve kept over the years but I have also accumulated many that ‘hmm, this sounds good’. You know the ones. It has been a process of purge after purge since we put the house up for sale. I’ve down-sized my recipe books and this file a few times and now I need to do it again.

The old empty one on the left is even thicker than the new filled one
that = progress!

I find that my recent practice is to Google whatever recipe I want and save it on Word. Always accessible, even without internet I can open my Document and begin cooking. So, I made a royal mess on the floor and Clemson wondered what the heck Mom was doing. I was ruthless, let me tell you and have kept ONLY the very best, tried and true or at least WILL try recipes. I have 13 pockets and have labelled them to fit our meal choices.

Everything in its place and a whole lot less of it
When the rain brought Bill inside, we sat down and made some firm plans for our winter travels. Once I know the reservation is accepted, we will be able to relax and move forward. I poured myself a Soda Water with a couple or three dashes of lemon and caught up on my post. I offered Bill a taste, hoping he would learn to like it. Ha ha, he made the same face and almost performed the same head shake that Clemson does with his medicine. I guess he doesn’t like it. I find it refreshing though.

The cloudy sky during the rain
So, we relaxed inside while it rained outside. We had 2 episodes recorded on our PVR of America’s Got Talent so we watched those and Bill lit the Weber Q at 6. I’d pulled hamburger patties out of the freezer earlier for supper and a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. No point in it sitting in the freezer when we could be eating it. I have many bags of frozen rhubarb to make another pie or crumble when I need to. We were eating our loaded bacon cheeseburgers by 6:30 and dishes cleaned up soon after.

Bill set the mousetrap with cheddar and before putting it in place, he vacuumed up the dirty little mouse turds. There were quite a few back behind the drawer with the garbage pail and a few in the actual drawer. I hope the little varmint is hungry tonight and we hear a **SnAp!** tonight! It can even wake me up and I won’t mind as long as we get him.

Bacon cheeseburgers for supper
We sat together and watched some television and I read my book. Friday night is not a great night for programs so I’ll get a few more chapters read. I got my recipes sorted and I’m very pleased with that $4 purchase. Bill managed to get some work done on his shed today, once more at a standstill until Mike comes in the morning to make the doors. I forgot to get a picture today.

We only have one more day at home before we have to pack up and take the Suite to CanAm for some scheduled repairs and checks. This has been a good day, even with the repeating bouts of rainfall. We were finally able to leave the a/c off for a whole day as the temperature never got above 74F. The humidity, however, still made it feel 8 degrees warmer. I hope your day has been a good one too.

And guess who made it up onto the bed, all by himself!?
"How did I do that, Mom and Dad?"
Thank you for stopping by. I love reading your comments if you wish to leave one.
