Finally! A Wonderful Weather Day.

The Ridge

On Wednesday, Apr. 23rd the day started off in a different direction. Bill was up at 6 with Gibbs and stayed up, getting ready for his first day back to work. He was headed to Ayton, a 30-minute drive, this morning to meet his co-worker. It was an outside deck job, one of Bill's favourite things to do.

Good morning!
Another previous night's photo.

I remained in bed until 7:30 and got up rather quickly when I realized the time. I didn't want to miss him this morning! I had my tea and when he left around 8, I hopped in the shower. Gibbs knows the words 'I'm having my shower' and hops up onto the bed to wait until I'm finished. Smart cookie, that little guy is. He isn't even distracted when I screech at the weigh scales. 😂😂

I love the FIRSTS of Spring.
Two males and one female visited
this morning.
I hope you can spot them.

M needed me to pop over briefly to help him send a picture in an email of his ID because the fax I sent wasn't clear enough. Took 5 minutes and I was on my way into Durham with the 2 empty water bottles. It was nice to chit chat with Mark, our water guy, and I picked up Bill's milk, some calf liver and a store brand stuffed turkey roast for $10. I couldn't resist, that will feed us for at least 6 meals.

Gibbs starts out on duty first thing.
Ever watchful.

Back home, I worked hard at cutting the frozen roast in half and after hearing from Bill that our Cub Cadet was ready, juggled some funds around and sent an e-transfer to Northline to pay for it. It was a few minutes past noon when Rob came up the lane with his trailer to drop it off.

Parking the CC in a good spot so
Bill can see it as he comes up the lane.

Gibbs greeted, as he does, and we ended up with a couple of bags of dog food that a store owner had removed because of the USA tag. LOL, their loss, our gain. Gibbs loves it and it will be integrated into his dish with his regular food.

We'll keep an eye to see if there are
any changes in how Gibbs handles this new food.

I had lunch and by then I'd heard from Robin. She's in Nfld with her hubby and asked if I would mind emptying their mailbox for her and setting one of her sale items out for pick up.

My lunch today was delish!

Gibbs and I nipped in and took care of that. I've noticed some damage to a couple of their big trees out front of their house and a lot of large branches all over the lawn.

Today, she told me that on Apr. 4th, a young person driving a pick up truck had fallen asleep  at the wheel and took their mailbox out and crashed his vehicle in the trees! Terrible but so fortunate that he lived through the mangled mess. Air bags and a higher being had to have played a big part.

For Robin and Andrew, this had to be
terrible to experience too.

When I returned home, Gibbs went outside with me for the remainder of the afternoon. I got the leaf rake, the spade, my damaged long handled loppers and garden trowel out of the shed. Time to take advantage of the day! If you remember last fall, we removed our 2 service berry trees that stood right off our patio. They had been damaged a couple of times from weather and needed to come down.

Our road got graded today,
here it is almost done.
I'll say one thing, the potholes at least slowed
people down!

The plan was to find a suitable bush of some kind, we have a few things in mind, for in this location. I don't need any more bird feeder stands but if all else fails, (we don't find what we want), a hanger of some sort for planters. I needed to make the ground plant worthy so dug and dug and dug some more. Removing the big rocks was plan A and plan B was removing the middle-sized ones. There are a lot!

I love when he does this!
He's acting like a puppy dog!!

Bill was home just after 2:30, a shorter first day, and by then I had loaded half the rocks into the wheelbarrow and was taking a break in my gravity chair. It feels good to get my hands back into the dirt though, so no complaints about the minor ouches. He proceeded to dump our black and gray tanks while I finished dumping the rocks over the edge.

More Gibbs' positions.

Nice thing about living out here in the country, you couldn't do that in a town/city. There was a small amount of water still in the bladder so he emptied that into our fresh water tank as well and I put my garden tools away for the night. We are expecting rain overnight and early morning. For supper, we agreed on fish and chips tonight and we'll bbq tomorrow night.

A small garden but a lot of rocks!!

I had made mashed cauliflower last night so reheated that and some corn for my side dish with the fish. It turned out awesome, although a little sloppy. I'll definitely do it again but in my blender instead of my coffee grinder. I was just testing things yesterday. We cleaned up dishes and Bill went to the Hangar for a couple of hours.

Bill takes care of dumping tanks
using his Cub Cadet.

My supper plate
and it was very good!
Bill's fries also looked yummy,
take my word for it. 😃

Survivor was our tv programming tonight, either together or separate, we are hooked again after years of taking a sabbatical from it. Last night, I watched Episode 5 of The Handmaid's Tale and oh my, I'm on the edge of my seat again. This was an awesome day, finally! Reaching a high of 20C/70F with little to no winds. Gibbs is really enjoying the outdoor weather too.

Good night!
(That's rain preparing to arrive)

Thank you for popping by to see what we've been doing today.

  3. What a lovely day! My goodness you certainly dug up a lot of rocks. Once the snow is gone, I'll be removing the raised bed with all of it's rocks. I started last week and realized it is full of rocks too.

    1. It makes you wonder where all those rocks come from. Seems each year, there are more and more. It was a great day though!

    1. I did pay for it a bit this morning, but to be expected even though it was only about an hour's work. Yes, bonus for Gibbs and the food!
